Working with DVCPro 720p in 10.1.2

This was going to be a question, but then I figured out the workaround, so I'm sharing what I learned. I'm working on a project shot in DVCPro 720p which is anamorphic - 960:720 pixels and my timeline automatically set itself to the same size. There's never been a problem doing that in previous versions, but some transitions (like Simple Blur) in 10.1.2 crop the sides of the footage during the transition down to a 4:3 picture. The problem goes away by changing the timeline setting to 1280:720 pixels. You're welcome.

hello i am using
cvs --version
Concurrent Versions System (CVSNT) 2.5.02 (Servalan) Build 2064 (client/server)
that i download from cvsnt.org
cvs it's in path variable.
and front-end i use Tortoise CVS that is better because it's integrated in Windows Explorer.
otherwise in JDev select menu Versioning->Select System-> check CVS and then
in tab Connections in CVSServer right click and select new cvs connection.
configure and work.
try to have only a cvs.exe in your machine.
i want help you.

  • IDVD doesn't work with DVCpro HD?

    Hi,
I've been trying to import a DVCpro HD quicktime movie exported from Final Cut Pro 5 onto iDVD 7 but all I get is a white screen when I preview it. I've also burned a dvd and get a green screen when the movie is played. I would like to know if iDVD supports the DVCpro format or is it simply a software version compatibility problem. One more thing - I also get a white screen when viewing the dvcpro file in quicktime. To solve that problem I've checked the 'Open using Rosetta' option in the quicktime application info. Thanks

usage of DVDSP doesn't improve compatibilty.. standards is standards..
    what you could do...:
use different brand of media, Verbatim is my suggestions..
and, tell iDVD to create an 'image' first, than use DiskUtility or Toast to create a videoDVD form that image, burn speed 2 - 4x ...
PS: NEVER trust what a client tells you..
when your DVDstandalone plays the disk, the problem sits in front of a PC, not a Mac..

  • Working with 720p h.264 files

Is my Mac supposed to be able to work directly with 720p h.264 files? Macbook Pro 2,33 Ghz with 2 gig RAM...
From my limited testing, I have seen extremely slow scrubbing with the previously mentioned files.
I was thinking of buying a Elgato turbo.264 HD for importing video from my Canon HF11... but I don't think its worth it, if working with the video is so slow...
    Any suggestions would be appreciated

h.264 is primarily a playback format. It is designed to be highly compressed, yet give high quality pictures. It is similar to AVCHD in this regard. AVCHD uses h.264 internally.
The way h.264 compression works is the [Group of Pictures compression technique|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupofpictures], where for every full frame, there are, say, 24 frames of highly compressed information. For example, imagine a video of an eagle flying. You get one full frame of the eagle flying. The next 24 frames say, "background is the same, but shifted over to the left, eagle's wings are moving up and down, etc."
When you import AVCHD, iMovie converts all these partial frames to full frames in the Apple Intermediate Codec. You can do the same thing for h.264 by using a free tool like MPEG Streamclip. You can drag your h.264 file into streamclip and export as AIC full frames.
This makes it much easier to edit.

  • Does Premiere Elements support DVCPRO-HD? How do I ingest and work with HD-footage from HVX-200?

    Hi there,
I work with Premiere Elements 11 on a windows PC, and I try to ingest HD-footage from Panasonic HVX-200 Camcorder. Premiere Elements only recognizes thumbnails, but not the footage itself? What do I have to do? Or does Elements only support SD-footage? Do I have to install DVCPRO-HD Codec? Where do I get it then?
Thanks for your help!, yours Mike

    Welcome to the forum.
PrE does support HD material, just not all of it.
With DVCPRO HD on P2 media, I am not sure that you will be able to work directly with the media files from your Panasonic in PrE. This is the list of supported formats: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premiereelements/using/WSeffff8bffc802084-1665492e133c9c19956- 8000.html#WS300DE01D-F057-4639-96D1-F99EEE163C24
PrPro can Import and edit DVCPRO HD on P2 media. The Panasonic P2, along with its metadata is supported: http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/extend.html

  • Working with 720p HD footage

    Hello,
I have a Panasonic HVX200 and shoot quite a bit of footage in the 720pn format (30p). The footage cuts beautifully in FCP in a 720 timeline also works well in DV format (once you resize and render.)
I recently was trying to create a DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4 and ran into issues with the 720p format. I tried a number of export formats from FCP and then compressed in BitVice. The only one I could get to work with any success was the DV – NTSC 3:2 format (anamorphic). When I tried to put the HD footage into a 4x3 timeline, DVD studio pro did not like that.
The 3:2 workaround seemed to work, but there must be an easier way to do this.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks..

Instead of using Apple's QuickTime Player, I would suggest looking into another player, such as VLC Player, or MediaPlayer Classic HC, both of which are free, and both of which have a very full set of CODEC's included in them.
For the best possible Audio, it would be best to choose PCM/WAV as the Audio CODEC. This is almost totally universal, and unlike all MPEG Audio (including AC3), is uncompressed. The file will be a bit larger (Audio does not take up as much space, as does the Video), but should give better quality, and not require additional CODEC's for users to play the file w/ Audio. This might not be an option in all possible Export/Share schemes.
For either PCM/WAV, or AC3 Audio, this will be set from the Audio Tab in the Export/Share settings. Remember setting the Encoding for the Audio might not be available in all formats, so just check that Audio Tab in the settings dialog screen (usually under Advanced).
As for DD Audio, you can set the Audio Encoding to AC3, wich is Dolby Digital, but that option might not be available with all possible Export/Share formats, so it gets down to an "it depends." This will be stereo (2-channel) Audio.
PrE cannot Encode to DD 5.1 SS (6-channel), as it lacks that Encoder. Even PrPro needs the Minnetonka Audio SurCode Encoder plug-in (US$300 option) to do DD 5.1 SS Export.
    Good luck,

  • What 1080p/720p cameras provide output that's the easiest to work with in CS6?

I'm interested to know what camera, or cameras, output files that are as trouble free as possible. It dawned on me that people here have probably "seen them all" and have had to work with the myriad files, "containers", and codecs from just about every camera that is, and has been, available for the past two or three years. From consumer and pro-sumer to top of the line professional gear, which cameras have you found to output files that are a pleasure to work with? I'm sure everyone has at least one client that uses a camera that you wish everyone else used.
If you, as an editor, had a say in the make and model of camera your clients used, what would it be?
Can't thank you folks enough. Cheers.

    Thanks for the reply. "CC".

  • What is the best way to work with mixed media in 1080 timeline?

    Hi there,
    I have a project shot mostly in 1080 24p but a bit of 720 24p and 4x3 30p footage.
What is the best way to work with this mixed media?
    Thanks!
    Steven

    Hi Shane,
Ok just to recap (thanks for being patient by the way)...I have put some questions in here...feel free to write in caps to respond and we'll put this baby to rest!
    1) I will work in a 1080p FCP sequence, correct?
    2) HD 1080p footage captured as applepro res hq I will leave as is and work with?
    3) HD 720p footage which was captured as applepro res hq. Can I just drop in 1080 timeline and let FCP do its work? Or should i run through compressor, if so what setting shall I submit it too?
    4) I dont have a budget for an external hardware to convert SD to HD...should I capture my SD Beta through Final Cut and just leave and let FCP do its work? Or should I run through compressor? If so what setting shall I submit it too?
    5) For for my master sequence in FCP am I not using an I-Frame format apple pro res if I am using my apple pro res hq 1080 footage as my formatted sequence? I am not sure what you mean by GOP?
    6) I also found some 60p footage 1080p XDCAM compressor shot with the same XDCAM camera. I put in the 1080p 24p timeline but it was pretty choppy...any ideas of this conform?
Thanks very much for all your help it has gone along way,
    Steven
Saying what CODECS you are working with was my question. 1080, 720, 4:3...really says nothing. There are a dozen 1080 codecs, another dozen 720 codecs, and nearly 100 4:3 formats.
Best to capture all the footage to one uniform codec.
Second best is to work with one format and let FCP conform the rest to that...IF and only IF that format is an I-Frame format like ProRes. GOP formats as master sequence formats cause TONS of issues.
What I'd do is work 1080 ProRes, just add the 720p footage (Use Compressor to convert it if you didn't have a lot, but if you had a lot, just add it), but I'd capture all the SD 4:3 footage via a Kona 3 or Matrox MXO2 as 1080 ProRes. Hardware conversion of SD to HD is much better than anything FCP can do. AE might do good as well. But then use Compressor to convert 29.97 footage captured (you can't convert 29.97 to 23.98 when you capture) to get to 23.98.

  • HELP - PULL-DOWN ISSUE WORKING WITH ARCHIVAL FILM IN 24P

Bear with me here... I'm working on a historical doc for a local PBS station. Camera footage was originated using the HDX 200 in 720p-24n. Much of the program uses old 16mm film that's been xfer'd to an uncompressed video file using the 16mm "Sniper" (a psuedo-telecine transfer system. The system scans the film frames into a pc one at a time and stores the images as a single movie file using a proprietary codec). You can tell the Sniper's software what frame rate the original film footage was shot at - i.e. 18fps, 24fps and so-on. However, when you export it back out it only outputs to a 29.97 interlaced file.
Here's the problem: The film I'm working with was originated at 18fps - not 24. But, I'm working with a 24p sequence. I need to convert the footage so that it plays cleanly in a 24p environment. But I can't run it through CT and do a reverse telecine to remove the pull-down because that's designed for footage that was originated at 24fps only. When I try to do it on footage that was shot at 18fps, I end up with a wierd flashing/banding thing as it tries to apply a 24 frame pull-down to an 18 frame image.
I'm thinking that there has to be a plug-in either for FCP, CT or for the Sniper that can work a pull-down from 18fps film to 24p video.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Tim Walton
    KVIE Public Television

Yeah, I thoought of that. But I kinda wanted to keep the program in native 24p if I could.
If I did it that way, wouldn't I have to go ahead and edit the program in 24p, then export it out at 29.97, then re-import it into a 29.97 Sequence and finally add the archive material?

  • Does apple tv work with PAL

I'm moving from the US to India, will Apple TV and the movies I purchased on the apple site work with a PAL TV?

I assume you have a black ATV?
So long as the TV in India has HDMI and can do 50 or 60 Hz 720p or 1080p (for ATV3) it should be fine.
PAL/NTSC are pretty irrelevant when it comes to devices like AppleTV.

does apple tv work with Hannspree tv's?

Never heard of them, but the Apple TV requires a TV with an HDMI connection that supports 720p input and is widescreen.

  • Does FCE HD work with other input devices besides cameras?

    Hi,
We are trying to do screen grabs and some motion video, in HD (720p) from another source that's not a camera.
I'm having trouble finding a bridge or card or anything that will go from HD component RGB to firewire into the Mac. Except for AJA's Kona card, which they told me yesterday will not work with Final Cut Express...
Any suggestions or does anyone have a Kona card?
    Thanks.

I think I'm putting together an answer.
I talked to both Aja and just now Blackmagic Design, and they said neither support Final Cut Express HD because it's only designed to input from firewire.
We need a HD solution with component input right away, but Final Cut Studio is totally overkill for what we need software wise. Oh well.
Hopefully trusty old Canopus will come out with a "mid-tier" HD solution down the road.
    thanks for the help.

  • Working with AVCHD & P2 in FCP6

Working with AVCHD & P2 in FCP 6.  I brought the P2 in via Log & Transfer.  I converted the AVCHD to ProRes 422 with ClipWrap (renamed the files with NameChanger) & then imported the .mov files into FCP.   I just wanted to make sure this sounded like the best way to import & make the clips compatible before I go any further.  Thanks.

Bring both P2 and the AVCHD into FCP, Log & Transfer, use DVCPRO-HD since it's what P2 is anyway, and P2 is less compressed than AVCHD.  You'll have about as good a quality as you're going to get out of those codecs.  No need to go outside of FCP.

  • Adobe CS4 not Working with video

I started a project in HDV.. 720P. And i tried importing some Video and its not working. Its stuck on the first frame only. Even When I Export. I exported an animation i did in Carrara in 720. Imported it into CS4 and it it stuck on the first frame. It's not the only video that doesn't work. A lot of my footage is not importing right. It's running perfectly in VLC and even in Vegas 9. I don't know why it's not working. Any Help fellas. I thought it might be a Codec problem but it's not . It should come withe Premiere. And i tried GSPOT and it said no codec needed. I'm primarily working with AVIs. I even tried changing the Extension. No luck Please. I need Help ASAP. Marketing assignment due soon.
    (2nd EXPLANATION SAME PROB)
Hey Guys. Just got adobe Premiere CS4. I've been trying to import some footage into it for editing but it's either a hit or miss. I thought it was my computer and or graphics card but when i tried it on my PC instead of my laptop i had the same issue. I start with a new document HDV. With 720P at 25fps. And i tried importing footag but all i get it the first frame or so.. I Rendered an animation out of carrara withe 1280 X 768.. or whatever it was and it didnt budge.. Even after i pressed enter to render work area.. I tried importing some other footage and it didn't work.. I then tried importing other 720P stuff.. some work some didn't. But without audio. I imported a clip of Sherlock holmes in 720P. It looked nice.. but again.. no audio.. Do i need codecs? or something. I mean all the videos that i try to import play well in VLC.. I even tried changing the extension from avi, to mov, to mp4... Nothing.. CS4 even rejected MOV, and WMV... wierd.. ok.. well any ideas folks.. I ned this up and running asap. Becuse before i start working in after effects and all that i'd like to know this is working first.. or so god help me i'll use Vegas.. =(

First let me say that I have been fighting PrPro CS4 for about 4-5 days now, and only just started reading in here to figure out what i could do to "fix" my problem. I was having all sorts of fits with the playback inside of PrPro freezing and then "not responding." I came across all kinds of posts about computers, memory, drivers and settings, operating systems and all of that. It wasn't until some one that is also having struggles stated that they had a USB drive for unrelated storage did the light go on. So I disconnected my 2 USB drives (one a 250GB desktop Thermaltake drive and the other a 320GB WD My Passport) and loaded up a project that had all been rendered useless. VOLA, working like a charm now. Just like old times, I love my PrPro CS4, where about 2 hours ago I was ready to start working on my resume...lol
Bottom line, don't leave a USB drive hooked up.
