Working with external assets

I remember in previous versions of FW that you could impot a PSD to the library as an imported external asset, place it on the canvas and then if you made any changes to the original PSD, update the asset to see the changes reflected in FW.
Some where along the way it looks like this functionality was removed. I have CS4, but have not been able to replicate this with the last few versions. Is it still possible to import and update external assets like this in FW?
If so, was is the workflow?

To my knowledge, this functionality has never existed. Fireworks doesn't retain a link to external assets which are imported.  For several versions, Photoshop and Illustrator  (and InDesign I believe) have supported this concept through the use of Smart Objects, but not FW.

  • How to make AEC work with external webcam?

    Hi everyone.
    What I'm trying to do is to make AEC work with external webcams. My target: flash in browser and desktop AIR app.
    I have the following situations:
    1. Laptop Lenovo S400, really not the best laptop, with MIC placed right above the speakers. But... AEC works excellent!
    2. PC with Logitech 1080p webcam (which has stereo microphones) and external speakers. But... AEC doesn't work at all. It even doesn't try to reduce any speakers sound in microphone data.
    3. The same laptop with connected Logitech camera and again - AEC doesn't work.
    In each situation I use absolutaly the same environment(Win7, target player - 11.9, Flex 4.6.0 SDK), code, compiller, etc..
    And I was unable to find any info for such situation.
    Does anybody have experience with such problem? I will be really grateful for any help.
    Here are parts of code:
    //  somwhere early...
    _microphone = Microphone.getEnhancedMicrophone();
    //  called before we attach microphone to NetStream
    private function _setMicrophoneMode():void
                _microphone.setLoopBack(false);
                _microphone.framesPerPacket = 1;
                _microphone.setSilenceLevel(0, 2000);
                _microphone.codec = SoundCodec.SPEEX;
                _microphone.encodeQuality = 10;
                _microphone.gain = 50;
                _microphone.rate = 44;
                if (_useEchoSuppression)
                var options:MicrophoneEnhancedOptions = _microphone.enhancedOptions;
                options.mode = MicrophoneEnhancedMode.HALF_DUPLEX;// using this for external webcams
                options.echoPath = 128;
                options.nonLinearProcessing = true;
                _microphone.enhancedOptions = options;
                } else
                    _microphone.setUseEchoSuppression(true);
                    trace(_microphone);

    I think that with the current state of the Adobe AIR Adobe FLash platforms, there is too much work to do to get echo cancellation to work on all platforms, and to get video to work as expected too. I think Adobe could solve many of these issues by implementing native WebRTC into the AIR platform, see this post here:

  • HT201250 My 10.7.3 Time Machine won't work with external disks. Worked fine with Snow Leopard, and even Lion 10.7.1

    My 10.7.3 Time Machine won't work with external disks. Worked fine with Snow Leopard, and even Lion 10.7.1
    I have tried everything, even buy new external disk from different manufacture.
    If I cant get a fix soon, I am downgrading back to SnowL.

    Still no luck. I tried all the tricks, reconfiguring TM (remove selected disk option, and re-setting it, and trying different disks). Tried new combo updater, and the newer TM update after that. Tired two different disks too (one is my older firewire WD MyBook 1TB, and my brand new 3tb Seagate GoFlex USB... either one plugged into back of computer - no intermediary devices). I did get the TM buddy wiget and it produced the following log, from the last attempt, where I setup lots of exclusions so that backup quantity was small (under 10gb). Still it failed to complete. Here is that log, for what it is worth:
    Starting standard backup
    Backing up to: /Volumes/TM-Disk/Backups.backupdb
    9.56 GB required (including padding), 911.15 GB available
    Waiting for index to be ready (101)
    Copied 0 files (0 bytes) from volume Mac HD.
    Backup canceled.
    To prove a point, I will take these disks are run them on my other Tiger and Snow Leopard laptops to prove TM works fine on those with these disks. But I fear the only options are to either have my tech re-install LION... or just have him reinstall SL instead. Im at wits end.

  • Macbook pro retina quit working with external displays

    Just got a new external display, and can't get it to work with my MBP. I tried it via the mini display port and also via the HDMI connection. Then I tried to use my flatscreen tv just to test things out via HDMI and now that doesn't work either, I've done that quite a bit in the past. The only thing thats changed is I updated to Yosemite. I even tried different cables.
    Thoughts?
    Txs,
    Jeff

    When I unplug the cable from the mac, the monitor does display this message:
    "No Display Port Cable"
    So it does seem like the display knows that its connected to a mac, just nothing shows up. Don't get anything in System Prefs > Displays either.

  • +shift+ delete and +delete not working with external keyboard...

    Most of the time, when I try to send a file to the trash or empty the trash using the keyloard shortcuts, it will only work if I use my laptop keyboard but not my external apple keyboard hooked up to it. Ocassionally it will work with my external keyboard, but most of the time it wont.
    Does anyone have similar problems to this or know how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    The only other thing I can think of is that the Finder can sometimes be slow in updating its view of reality. This is a perennial gripe about OSX. So maybe the issue is not the keyboard, but the Finder itself. Are you a fast typist? Try taking 3 deep breaths before using these key combos the next time you try to delete. Maybe that will let the finder catch up.
    I only suggest this because, otherwise, the problem is pretty inexplicable.

  • Helix only works with external power

    Hello
    Just received my Helix and I have some issue, one of the biggest issue so far is that it will only power up and stay on with external power, when I dock it it works fine, if I undock it it will shut down, if I plug the power cord to the tablet it will power on but as soon as I remove the power cord it will shut down, I have checked and the batteries are 100% charged, any advice ?
    thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for the reply, I called Lenovo tech support and they thought it was the mother board, the tech changed it and it did the same he suspected a faulty battery, he replaced that and it works great now, so it was a faulty battery on the tablet it was not getting charged, Lenovo tech support was great, quick and very apologetic, love the laptop so far, thanks for all the help.

  • Working with external fonts and director

    Hi,
    when working with UTF-8 fonts or other big fonts compiling
    can be such a
    pain. When having multiple big fonts I could go and get me a
    coffee
    every time I compile my flash movie.
    I use textfields for every font format I use so I could use
    it as linked
    library member but it does not work when using it in
    director.
    Does anyone know a solution to this? How to avoid compiling
    big fonts?

    Hi MK,
    No, maybe I didn't express it precisely
    It's not about the DB or its vendor, it's about the DB <b>schema</b>.
    You can of course reuse the system JDBC driver to create a DS to this external DB, however it cannot be Open SQL (Open SQL is available <b>only</b> with the system DB <b>schema</b>)and therefore usage of SQLJ is not possible with it.
    Hope it makes more sense now!

  • Lenovo E535 blank display but works with external VGA

    I have a Lenovo E535 where the LCD display is completely blank. It works with an external screen connected to the VGA port. Using the F6 key to toggle between displays makes no difference. The AMD Vision Engine Control Centre only detects the external display. The Lenovo hardward tests do not detect any problems with graphics.
    So I thought it must be a problem with the LCD panel itself and I have replaced it. The new one does not work either (so that was a waste of money!)
    Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next?

    Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
    Have you tried booting the computer into the BIOS Setup to see if there is a screen display?  That would circumvent any operating system related problems.
    Other possibilities...... Bad video cable.  A used one on eBay would be a cheap thing to try. Less than $10 (U.S.)  Especially if the laptop you are working on had loose hinge problems or is frequently opened and closed.
    A bad LCD replacement is another possibility.

  • SuperDrive not working and bootcamp seems not working with external CD

    Hi everyone,
    I have a MacBook, and the internal SuperDrive is dead, now I'm using an
    external CD drive (USB).
    Yesterday I bought Leopard 10.5.4, (need to intall BootCamp).
    The update from Tiger to Leopard was easy, and withought problems, but when I tried to install BootCamp, the partition seems correctly created, but when the program request the Windows CD and restart, a grey screen apears and nothing
    happend... also Leopard is unable to start again, just the grey screen...
    Now I found that if I press alt key, appear the Macintosh HD and i can start it,
    but never automatically...
    What can I do? I tried to reintall again with the same result...
    I need BootCamp, if not i think i waste 129$ cause the only reason to purchase Leopard was BootCamp... also I need my computer reebot again by itself, not using the alt key... that's really anoying...
    Please Help
    Best regards.

    Hi BigWaveSurfer,
    I don't have an external CD/DVD-Drive, so I made some guessing.
    From my understanding of Windows it is more likely to work with an USB-connected external drive than with a FireWire one.
    Windows XP (and Vista to my knowledge) can only support/access Firewire devices with additional drivers, that are not loadad/used during the installation phase.
    Only when Windows is fully installed the needed Firewire driver is present and Windows can use it.

  • Sleep not working with external screen in clamshell mode

    I have my macbook with Lion operating in clamshell mode with an external display connected as the main screen.
    Although I have set the computer to sleep after 10mins, this never happens and I have to sleep the computer manually every time.
    If I disconnect the external display, or open my Mac and work with both screens, the computer does sleep properly after the set time.
    I can't seem to find the fix anywhere, and the people in the mac store couldn't help me either.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thx,

    How to disable the closed-clamshell mode?
    I think, this is what you're looking for ... maybe you want to uproot that question.

  • Does echo cancellation work with external webcams?

         The other side of my video chat can't hear me very well - sounds is really muffled. Does anyone know if echo cancellation works with the microphones from external webcams?

    TimesTen supports normal RAM for primary storage and 'disk' (or anything that presents as a disk, such as SSD etc.) for persistent storage. There is no explicit support for any other kind of storage. If the O/S had the capablility to present an external Flash Array as normal RAM then in theory it would work with TimesTen. But of course it would be far, far slower than RAM so there is probably little benefit in doing that even if it were possible.

  • Does Times Ten work with External Flash array

    Does the Times Ten In Memory DB support external Flash Arrays or is it completely dependent of Internal Memory. I was told it did not support it in the past, as this changed recently.

  • My iPhone no longer works with external speakers

    Since upgrading to the 3.0 software, my iPhone (the original 2G model) no longer works with the speakers I have, or with my DVD/surround system. Previously it worked fine! Has anyone else experienced this. I'm so disappointed, as I use the speakers/surround system a lot to listen to music.
    If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it

    OK, I just clicked restore to backup in itunes and after restoring the iphone, it seems to be connecting and working through the speakers now. Whew!
