Working with Field Based Footage in Color

Hi,
I have a film shot on mini DV that is interlaced, when I send it to color to grade then back to FCP is seems to have lost a field.
In the end I will master it as progressive, but Id rather merge fields than loose one all together.
waht is the best workflow in this situation?
cheers
Alex

Before you bring the material into FCP (let alone color) convert it to ProResLT progressive. Use Frame Controls deinterlace set to better.
You now have 10 bit 4:2:2 progressive files
Do your edit in FCP.
Send the resulting files to Color

  • Can any one tell me how to work with field exit????

    Hi
Can any one tell me how to work with field exit I know how to create them. I want to know how it works. Actually I want to create a field exit for T-CODE MIRO. Where I want to put the value ebeln of the PO Reference tab into the Assignment of details tab and make Assignment field disable.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Follow the Steps,
    1. Go to CMOD transaction
    2. From the menu "GOTO->TEXT ENHANCEMENTS->DATA ELEMENTS-   ->NEW DE CUST DOCU".
    3. In the displayed box specify the data element and
press either "CHANGE" or " Ref to screen" button
    4. CHANGE button is for defining the documentation
    5. "Ref. to screen" if for assigning the screen in which
a field has the this type data element.
Note: You should have used this data element for a
             field in that screen.
    6. Now it will ask for Function Module name, specify the
FM name and double click it. It will go to the editor.
    7. Now using the Import parameters code accordingly
    8. Activate and go back
    9. Now "Assign the created program ( that is FM) to the
screen by specifying the Program name and Screen
       number.
    10. Now save and activate.
Note: No need to create a separate project for creating field exit through transaction CMOD.
    I hope this is suffice.

  • Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage and it is playing back in slow motion?

Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage shot using .MOV wrapper with their IPB 50mbps and All-Intra 72MBPS codecs and they are playing back in slow motion in Sg CC. The footage works fine in PP CC and I have no clue on how to fix it. Is this a bug or do I a have a setting wrong some place?

Yes it turns red this is silly PP and AE have no problem with playback for these codecs. So it is indeed Sg not handling the codec correctly and not my system?
What if I transcoded it to something else other than the previous what would you reccommend?
I was going to transcode to ProRes but 5DtoRGB does not work on Windows with GH3 codecs.
What is the correct time warp seting under clip properties? I screwed with it and forgot the default setting.
Is there a way to reset Sg back to defaults settings globaly. I tried to many settings trying to fix the playback and may have left something in the wrong state.
    Thanks...

  • Working with Cannon 5D Footage. Compress or Raw?

Just started working with both Cannon 5D Mark III and editing in Premiere. I know with FCP it was best to compress to Apple ProRes to work with files (even though they doubled in size). Any compression setting suggestions for working with 5D footage without a loss of quality and/or stuttering play back in Premiere?

You can work with the 5D footage natively in Premiere, if your hardware can keep up with the big demand on the CPU.  I am on a MacPro 8 Core system, and I have no trouble playing back the H.264 from the 5D in full resolution on CS6.  When I worked in CS5.5, I did have to transcode to ProRes first, since CS5.5 on the Mac did not play H.264 very well. Create a matched sequence by dropping a 5D clip on the "New Sequence" icon.
If you are on a slower machine, try reducing the playback resolution to get real-time playback, although that doesn't always work well with the high CPU intense material such as H.264.  If all else fails, go back to your original workflow and transcode to ProRes and you will have no problem.
    Good luck.

  • Working with 4K Red-Footage

    Hey together,
maybe it is an easy thing, but I don't get it...
I am working with 4K Red Footage into a HD-Sequence.
Is it possible to automatically resize the clips to see them full frame?
Otherwise I have to manually resize every clip in my sequence to 50%.
    Thanks!

Select clips in the timeline, right-click and choose 'Scale to Frame Size'.
WARNING: This option entails some consequences in Dynamic Link scenario, not crucial though. You just need to be aware of. In particular, when you replace a clip with a dynamically linked AE composition, and the 'Scale to Frame Size' option had been enabled, After Effects creates a nested precomp out of that clip instead of just a layer, and the Collapse Transformation switch becomes enabled for that precomp in a master comp. If you understand, what all the above is about, take a note. If not, safely ignore until you're facing some issues (e.g. After Effects warning pops up on an attempt to apply the Warp Stabilizer effect etc.)

  • HELP PLEASE!  I am working with GH4 4k footage in adobe preimere and the computer keeps freezing... any ideas?

HELP PLEASE!  I am working with GH4 4k footage in adobe preimere and the computer keeps freezing... any ideas?

Thanks for your response.  I'm sorry for the lack of details, but posting a question on this forum is completly new to me, so I guess I am learning how it works.
I have to be honest, I am a novice to video editing, but I am here to learn so I will provide all the info I know and please let me know if it is enough...
I filmed my first feature film on a Panasonic GH4. We filmed in 4k (compressed files).  I am about 900 GB of total files for all the footage.  I am currently editing on a 17' Toshiba Satellite i7 with 750 GB of space and I believe 8 gb of ram.  All of the footage for the film is not on the computer, but stored on a 1 TB external hardrive (Rugged Lacie is the name of the hard drive).  I am using a usb 3.0 from the hard drive to the computer.
I actually was able to get through about 17 mins of edits for the film before I started to experiencing the computer completely freezing up on me.  I tried using a different hard drive, and same issue.  A friend mentioned it might just be the computer is not powerful enough to edit all the footage, but he wasn't for sure considering the computer is less than a year old and is on the higher end for a toshiba.
I am requesting advice on how to continue editing the film without the computer crashing if that is even possible with using the same computer.  If not what would be my options?
    Thank you!

  • I'm working with MXF XAVCi footage shot in S-Log on a Sony FS7

I'm working with MXF XAVCi footage shot in S-Log on a Sony FS7 - Can anyone tell what the optimum sequence settings are for premiere pro CC. I'm editing then doing a round trip into DaVinci. Currently settings are AVC - Intra 100 1080p.
    Many thanks

Frankly, your best bet would probably be to recapture from the source into FCP. Alternatively you could export the files from the Avid directly as Quicktime Movie files instead of taking the raw MXF's.
Options for working directly with the MXF's include:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MXFImportQ_OSX.html ( USD 60 )
    http://mxf4mac.com/products/mfx4qt/#mxf4qt_import ( EURO 399 )
    http://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac/index.htm ( USD 195 )
but I have no info as to whether these would enable you to work directly with an AVID MXF

  • Does AirPrint work with all kinds of printers with modern usb capability? Does it also work with android based devices?

    Just as the question says

Does AirPrint work with all kinds of printers with moden usb capability.
AirPrint works if you have an AirPrint compatible printer.  See this Apple support document for details on compatible models.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If the printer is not AirPrint compatible, it still might be possible to enable printing by installing an App like Print Central on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod.
PrintCentral Pro for iPhone/iPod Touch - iTunes - Apple
Does it also work with android based devices?
I would be surprised if it did, but best to ask that question on an Android support forum.

  • Is it possible to work with Field Exits in R/3 Enterp. Basis 6.20???

How could I work with them?

    Yes you can.
    SE 38 --> Prog RSMODPRF
    http://www.sapdevelopment.co.uk/enhance/fexits.htm
But Have a look at OSS note 29377 as well:
    Symptom
Problems and questions concerning field exits
    Other terms
    FAQ, Q+A, SMOD/CMOD, field exits
    Reason and Prerequisites
    Note
Field exits are frozen on the 4.6C maintenance level and are not further developed. This means that the existing functionality is kept with all restrictions (see also the last item below). Existing exits can be further used and are called at runtime as usual.
Existing exits can be maintained using program RSMODPRF (run the
program using transaction SE38). Activation of the field exits and
assignment of the dynpros can also be carried out using program
RSMODPRF. For this purpose, the program must be started without
    parameters (input fields remain blank).
If required, new field exits can be created using program
    RSMODPRF (see the program documentation).
    Solution
    1. Field exit was created with CMOD, but is not processed when calling the screen.
Since the field exit is not processed until PAI, an action must be triggered on the screen (Return, Save, ...).
Set profile parameter abap/fieldexit to YES and restart the system.
After activating the function module FIELD_EXIT... and the field exit, leave the transaction on whose screen the field exit is to be executed. The screen is not generated until the transaction is started.
Do not work on different application servers since there may be some delay before the field exit is activated.
The profile parameter must be set on all or none of the application servers.
If the field exit is to only be active on specific screens, check whether you chose the correct program and the correct screen number (take care with subscreens).
Generate the screen on which the exit should be active using SE51. It is possible that it was not correctly generated. If you want to be sure that all screens that use the data element are regenerated, you can transfer Report rsmodfdg from the correction instructions and start it with SE38. The Report uses the affected data element as the input parameter and regenerates all screens that use the data element.
Using SE51 -> Field list, check that the screen field does have a reference to a data element. In the name of the field exit, use the name of the data element and not the field name.
After transport, field exits are marked as active but will not be processed. Tip: First try deactivating the field exit once more and then activate it again.
    2. How is performance affected by setting abap/fieldexit?
If a screen is generated and the profile parameter is set, a check is run on 2 tables (TDDIR, TDDIRS) to see whether a field exit must be generated for the respective field. In practice, the screen load is not generated until the screen is selected after an update. The user should not notice any difference because screen generation is very fast.
    3. Can you read the contents of other screen fields in the field exit?
In principle, every field exit can store its value in the global variables of the function group (TOP) and hence make them available to other field exits. Note here that field exits are always called, not only if an entry is made in the field or if the field is empty. In addition, it is not possible to make any assumptions about the order in which the field exits will be called in the future.
    4. How does the field exit behave on step loop fields ?
After the user has entered data, the field exit is called in PAI as often as there are visible fields in the step loop. The system variable SY-STEPL is incremented each time. If a new value is assigned to the field, it is displayed in the module between LOOP and ENDLOOP. This module is also called once for each visible step loop line.
    5. Can field exits be debugged ?
No. Field exits must be tested separately in the ABAP/4 Development Workbench. For errors which only occur in the screen environment, it is helpful to write interesting variables to the file system using TRANSFER... . These can then be analysed there.
    6. What can you do if the field contents are no longer transported to ABAP/4?
Check whether a value is assigned to the field OUTPUT.
    7. When is the field exit called if a conversion exit is attached to the data element?
The field exit is called after the conversion exit. This means that the INPUT field receives the data in the same format as the ABAP/4 program receives it.
    8. Although a global field exit is inactive, a function module is called which does not exist (for example FIELD_EXIT_PROGRAMM_@). This can lead to an ABAP dump error when function module FIELD_EXIT_<data element name> is called.
This is an error in the kernel which no longer occurs as of Release 3.0C. As a temporary measure, it is useful to assign a program and a screen which do not exist to the field exit and then activate the field exit.
Due to performance reasons, the active/inactive indicator is stored in the screenload. This can cause inconsistencies between Source and Load. Generate the affected screen with se51. If you want to be sure that all screens that use the data element are regenerated, you can transfer Report rsmodfdg from the correction instructions and start it with se38. The Report uses the affected data element as the input parameter and regenerates all screens that use the data element.
    9. Field exit is not visible in CMOD, although created.
If you want to create a field exit for a data element, a function module is proposed with the name FIELD_EXIT_<data_element>. This function module must exist for the field exit to work. If you do not create this function module, but do create one with a suffix, the data element is not displayed in CMOD.
    10. Field exit is not executed although it is active.
Fields which do not have the 'Input field' attribute usually do not trigger a field exit. The field exit is designed to allow an extended input check. It is therefore only called for input fields - even if they are not ready for input at runtime of the application by LOOP AT SCREEN.
This rule does not apply, however, if the field is located within a steploop. Here the field will be always activated, even if it is invisible.
Field exits can only be executed for fields that are directly related to the dictionary. If the relation is indirect, i.e. via an ABAP declaration (<fieldname> LIKE <dictionary element>), no field exit can be executed.
    11. Field exits do not work on selection screens.
Results from the previous item since ABAP-internal fields and never the original Dictionary fields are used on selection screens.
    12. Field exists do not work on check buttons.
Field exits are only intended for input fields. As check buttons count as graphical elements, you cannot install field exits on them.
    13. How can all screens that use a data element be generated?
If you want to be sure that all screens that use a specific data element are regenerated, you can transfer Report rsmodfdg from the correction instructions into a customer report (e.g. zsmodfdg). The Report regenerates all screens. In this way, you can ensure that active field exits refer to screens and that inactive exits cannot be called on any screen. The Report uses the affected data element as the input parameter. The affected data element is in the name of the exit: FIELD_EXIT_<data element name>.
    14. Restriction of usage
Field exit technology was developed for input fields on dynpros and cannot be used for other/new dynpro elements. This means that this technology does not offer support for the new ScreenPainter elements such as graphical elements (e.g. checkbuttons, radiobuttons, dropdown listboxes), controls (except for table controls which are supported like a step loop), or selection screens.

  • Publish action not working with JCA based Business Service

    Hi All,
I have created one BS in OSB that publish the message in AQ. Its working fine as expected when tested from test console.
I have made one proxy service which after transformation will publish the message to this BS, but the publish action is not invoking.
I have added log action inside request action of my publish action and log is getting generated for that with correct request. However, I cant see message in DB neither can i see any exception/error logs in OSB.
I tried replacing publish with route action and its working fine , message is getting published in AQ.Did any one face this type of issue before ???
Or publish action works only with jms based Business services.
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards,

    Bingo !!!
Setting QOS helped me to find out the exact error. Was passing complete soap envelope to BS instead of passing body part only.
Thanks a lot for your help mate .
One more query can you please enlighten me on the use of QOS in OSB, such as in what scenarios we should use QOS.

  • Working with 720p HD footage

    Hello,
I have a Panasonic HVX200 and shoot quite a bit of footage in the 720pn format (30p). The footage cuts beautifully in FCP in a 720 timeline also works well in DV format (once you resize and render.)
I recently was trying to create a DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4 and ran into issues with the 720p format. I tried a number of export formats from FCP and then compressed in BitVice. The only one I could get to work with any success was the DV – NTSC 3:2 format (anamorphic). When I tried to put the HD footage into a 4x3 timeline, DVD studio pro did not like that.
The 3:2 workaround seemed to work, but there must be an easier way to do this.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks..
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   DVD Studio Pro 4, FCP Studio 4

Instead of using Apple's QuickTime Player, I would suggest looking into another player, such as VLC Player, or MediaPlayer Classic HC, both of which are free, and both of which have a very full set of CODEC's included in them.
For the best possible Audio, it would be best to choose PCM/WAV as the Audio CODEC. This is almost totally universal, and unlike all MPEG Audio (including AC3), is uncompressed. The file will be a bit larger (Audio does not take up as much space, as does the Video), but should give better quality, and not require additional CODEC's for users to play the file w/ Audio. This might not be an option in all possible Export/Share schemes.
For either PCM/WAV, or AC3 Audio, this will be set from the Audio Tab in the Export/Share settings. Remember setting the Encoding for the Audio might not be available in all formats, so just check that Audio Tab in the settings dialog screen (usually under Advanced).
As for DD Audio, you can set the Audio Encoding to AC3, wich is Dolby Digital, but that option might not be available with all possible Export/Share formats, so it gets down to an "it depends." This will be stereo (2-channel) Audio.
PrE cannot Encode to DD 5.1 SS (6-channel), as it lacks that Encoder. Even PrPro needs the Minnetonka Audio SurCode Encoder plug-in (US$300 option) to do DD 5.1 SS Export.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Working with 1440 x1080 footage?

I'm going to be working with some footage shot at 1440 x1080 (interlaced I believe) with an AVCHD camera. I will have other footage shot at 1920 x 1080 that needs to be edited with it.
    1. Anyone know why a camera would be designed to shoot footage at 1440 x 1080 instead of 1920 x 1080?
    2. Is it better quality wise to let the footage scale up to 1920 x 1080 or should it just be downconverted to work in a 1280 x 720 sequence?
    Thanks.

    1. Cost of the sensors.
    2. Keep it 1920 x1080.
1440 x 1080 is typical of HDV, 1920 x 1080 is typical for AVCHD. They are actually the same resolution , only the PAR, picel aspect ratio differs.
    1440 x 1080 with a PAR of 1.333 is the same as 1920 x 1080 with a PAR of 1.0.
Google is your friend if you want to know more about PAR.

  • Using avi files with DVpal. Working with screen grab footage.

    Hi.
I am currently editing some short little promo's that mix DVpal footage with .avi footage. The .avi footage are screen grabs of someone navigating a website, and are designed as cutaways to illustrate a ptc.
However when they are rendered out on the timeline, the text from the website that is in the screen grab video becomes too distorted/(rasterized i think), essentially unreadable. I was planning on some degradation, but didn't realize it would destroy the image so much.
I have tried exporting/converting the .avi files to certain .mov formats but all with essentially the same problem.
Does anybody know a work around solution to help solve this problem. Or is the best way to redo the screen grabs as .movs with the relevant settings, and can anyone recommend some software for this job.

I think the problem is more based in the fact that you're working in DV. Can you work in a higher quality format?

  • Working with class based exception and dynamic method calls

    Hi Gurus,
we just changed out ERP from EHP6 to EHP7.
Since we did so we are facing an issue with an Z-Report we are using quite often.
This reports looks up Workitems and executes the according methods so that we can go into debugging if we were facing any problems or errors.
since the EHP Upgrade this statement has problems:
data:        lt_parmbind   type abap_parmbind_tab,         lt_excpbind   type abap_excpbind_tab,         lo_runtime    type ref to object.     call method lo_runtime->(iv_cls_method)       parameter-table       lt_parmbind       exception-table       lt_excpbind.this CALL METHOD Statement has Problem with the Exception Table. We are quite often getting DYN_CALL_METH_EXCP_NOT_FOUND short dumps with Exception "CX_SY_DYN_CALL_EXCP_NOT_FOUND".
The system has problems handling the content of lt_excpbind. if i clear this table the CALL METHOD statement works fine.
AS an example we are trying to call /IDXGC/CL_PD_PROCESS_STEPS-->CREATE_DATA. This method has 2 exceptions
    /IDXGC/CX_PROCESS_ERROR
    Process Layer Exception
    CX_BO_TEMPORARY
    Temporary Business Exception
    The Content of LT_EXCPBIND is
    INDEX
    NAME
    VALUE
    2
    /IDXGC/CX_PROCESS_ERROR
    1
    2
    CX_BO_TEMPORARY
    2
From my point of view the Problem ist, that they are marked as "class based". I think so because if you looked up the SAP Help for the EXCEPTION-TABLE Statement it is written that is statement only works for none-classbased exception.
I think that restriction is quiet clear. But what i am wondering about is.. that restriction also exists for EHP6. And in EHP6 it work. Does anyone know why? Or how i can change me CALL METHOD Statement that i will work again?
    Best Regards
    Udo

Class-based exceptions must be caught using try/catch statement.
Calling dynamically a method catchable exceptions are:
    CX_SY_DYN_CALL_EXCP_NOT_FOUND
    CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_CLASS
    CX_SY_DYN_CALL_ILLEGAL_METHOD
    CX_SY_DYN_CALL_PARAM_MISSING
    CX_SY_DYN_CALL_PARAM_NOT_FOUND
    CX_SY_REF_IS_INITIAL
Anyway catching cx_root (as shown by Matthias) will catch everything is catchable.

  • Working with Red camera footage

I brought a frame from some Red footage into Photoshop CS6, and I used the Spot Healing Brush to paint out something.  I added something else back to that frame, now need to bring that footage into After Effects CS6.  When I bring in the resulting PSD into AE, the color is completely wrong.  There is no option to Export or Save as REDCODE RAW, so...... ?

I would check on the Red forum for color settings for your workflow.
The other option would be to transcode the footage to something other than RedCode RAW and go from there with a different color space.
