Note to forum users: This is additional information for the help, not a question. However, if you have more to add about Flash projects, please do. The documentation on it doesn't have much for people using this in earnest.
Before you try to use this for a project that is of a scale that needs it, be aware that flash projects don't work well unless you can have all of your fla/xfl files in the root of a single directory. That is, if you make a change in a shared symbol in a file that is in a nested directory, not only will that update not carry over to the AuthorTimeSharedAssets (and thus the other files), but it will be overwritten when you close the file and reopen it. This failure is completely silent, so you can go along making changes for hours without realizing they didn't "take."
If you try to get around this by putting your files outside the project and using Locations, when you open a symbol in the Location directory for editing, it will prompt you to open AuthorTimeSharedAssets for editing. Not exactly the best workflow ever, but it at least gets the symbol updated in the right place to make things work as expected.

Captivate 4 AS2 Text Entry Box not working with Flash Player 11

I am having issues with text entry boxes not working at all in flash 11. I am using Captivate 4 and exporting an AS2 swf. When you get to the slide you can type but you cannot see anything nor does the button or keystroke to move on. Also there is no cursor. Any ideas?

You said it is not working with Flash 11, so does that mean you tested with previous version and that worked?
While publishing choose Flash player as 9 and publish that, verify if that plays in a compatible web browser.
AS 2 is a legacy scripting, it has been said not too be supported with even Flash Player 10 --

I believe if you switch back to version 9 while publish your project, it should work.

Camera just up and stopped working with flash player. SUUUUPER annoying. Any ideas?

So Flash Player today decided it doesn't want to work with my webcam. I have pulled my hair out trying to figure out what the problem is. The camera works fine with other video camera software, such as Adobe Flash Live Encoder 3.1, for example, or the various Microsoft cam tools. But Flash Player just won't see it. When I visit a website that uses the camera through flash, all I get is a black box. I never get the privacy screen that asks me if I would like to allow the site temporary access to my camera.If i go into my settings, and go to the camera tab, it shows my camera device in the dropdown box. But you know how if you double-click the little box under the dropdown, it should activate your camera and display a little video inside that box? That doesn't work for me. All I get is this:
It doesn't matter if I use FF or IE. I've re-installed Flash Player, both the FF version and the Ax version. To no avail. I've logged into my computer as a different user, because hell maybe it's some weird dumb thing in the Flash Player cache or something. Nope.
Now here's the super, super, super annoying part: I just recently moved to this laptop and one of the things I was looking forward to was a computer where my webcam would FINALLY work with flash player again. Yes, that's right: my old computer had this exact same problem. And in both cases, at one point the camera worked with Flash player no problem, and then at some point, it just stopped working.
This makes me think, of course, that the problem is some nefarious piece of software I've installed, but I can't think of what that is. I know the camera was working with my new computer as early as last week. Recently I've installed a bunch of software, including Adobe Media Live Encoder 3.1, Flash Professional CS5, and the Adobe Connect add-in. I've uninstalled everything except CS5, because, hey, who wants to re-install that if they don't have to? I'll do that as a last result, but the guy sitting next to me has the entire CS5 suite installed and camera works fine for him with Flash Player (same exact hardware too), so I don't think it's that. Other than that, I dunno. I've got VS2008 and 2010 installed. GoToMeeting. Office. That's about it.
So. Any ideas? Any thoughts on how I could even start to debug the issue? Logging or something? Any help is much appreciated.

Solution:
Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg
Set
AVHardwareDisable=1
to:
AVHardwareDisable=0
Restart your browser. Done. Camera works now.
I really want to shout this solution from the rooftops, because try Googling the solution sometime. I did. I failed. You will too. Hopefully if I use some more 18-point bold font, Google will index it faster, because that's the way it works right?
I actually had no idea that Flash Player has a folder in Windows\system32 at all, and I definitely had no idea that this file existed. I am guessing some stinking app I installed decided I needed AVHardwareDisable set to 1 for some reason (effers). I found out about the location by just lazily searching through the windows registry for "Flash Player" and eventually saw it pointing to that directory. A little more poking around and I found this file.
Those of you who actively support this forum: please keep this in the back of your mind, next time someone has audio/video input problems with Flash Player. I've found an awful lot of forum posts from people with cameras not working, and I bet a good portion of them need this fix. Reinstalling Flash Player will not fix it. Here's hoping the solution comes up in Google for the next unlucky soul.

AIR SDK 17 (BETA) is not working with Flash CS6

Hi,
The latest AIR SDK 17 is not working with Flash CS6.
I tried to publish and install an iOS app to my connected device via USB but I always get an error "Check if iTunes is installed".
The latest stable AIR SDK 16 is working fine, and yes, iTunes is installed on my PC.
DETAILS:
- Flash CS6
- AIR SDK 17
- System: Windows 8,1
- iPodTouch with iOS 8.1
REPRODUCE:
Open new AIR iOS template and publish/install it to a USB connected iOS 8.1 device.
Anyone else got that error?

I was getting this intermittently. Not a super problem. A remove and install in iTunes gets it loaded (after you tell ITunes where it is).

Captivate 5.5 not working with Flash 11.4?

I had Flash 11.4 and published a module with click boxes that jump to URLs. The click boxes don't appear in either preview or published mode. No hand cursor, no click box, no URL, nothing. I've double checked the settings on the click boxes three times... they are correct, and the box is the top most thing on the slide.
Based on advice I found on this forum on other flash problems, I tried uninstalling Flash 11.4 and going back to 10.3. Now every time I try to launch the module I immediately go to the Flash 11.4 download page, and get the message "this content requires Flash to play - download now". So apparently you can't install an earlier version of Flash and use it with Captivate.
Which isn't a solution anyway, because my I don't want my viewers to have to do that to take this training. So what do I do? How do I make these urls available?
I won't waste my time calling Adobe support... I've made that mistake in the past. I'm really hoping someone here can help me. Upgrading to Captivate 6 isn't an option...it's not in the budget. They need to make 5.5 work with Flash - it's not that old. It's SO frustrating that every time there is a Flash upgrade I have problems with this stupid software. If they are going to publish to Flash, they need to keep the software current. They own both products for goodness sake - why don't they work together? Please help!

I doubt that Flash 11.4 is the cause of these issues. Having Flash 11.4 installed on your box doesn't mean your end users will need it.. Captivate 5.5 and 6 will only publish as high as Flash 10.2. So all your end users would need is that version or above.
I assume when you say you have check the settings on your click boxes, you made sure you have them configured to show the hand cursor? If this is not turned on then the normal mouse pointer is all that will be visible. But I'm betting you've checked that already.
What you may not realise is that sometimes Captivate will APPEAR to show your click boxes are on the top layer of the timeline when you look at it in Edit mode, but in fact they may be buried down under other objects in the layers and NOT be clickable at runtime. This has caught me out a few times.
To ensure that your clickboxes ARE on the top layers, select each click box in the timeline and then click the icon on the main toolbar to Bring Selected Objects to the Front. Then publish and test again.

Flash Builder 4 profiler doesn't seem to work with Flash Player 10.0

Hi,
I've been trying to get the profiler to work with Flash Builder 4, but when trying to profile on Flash Player 10.1, 11 or 11.1, Flash Builder doesn't connect to the profiled SWF.
Changing my Flash Player to an old, debug version of 10.0.45 works fine.
Is this a known bug, or is it just an incompatibility that's fixed in Flash Builder 4.5?

Numbers 3.2 has changed too much, it doesn't work with my project anymore. How do I revert back to the previous version I was using?

Numbers 3.2 has changed too much, it doesn't work with my project anymore. 1) The sheet panels used to be on the left hand side and easily reviewable and searchable, but now they are on the top and it's harder to find a specific folder without scrolling (too time consuming), 2) I used to be able to duplicate a folder within my sheet panel window by simply clicking on a folder and hitting Command D, but that doesn't work now so it looks like I'll have to spend even more time to recreate the same tables that used to be easily duplicated, and 3) I can't choose fill colors that matched my project anymore because there are only limited choices available now. And these are only the changes that I'm aware of. I am very disappointed and frustrated. Whatever the motivation was to limit Numbers 3.2, I want the previous version back. How do I revert back to the previous version I was using?

You can scroll more quickly between sheets if you don't use the left-right triangles, but instead move the cursor up into the bands with the "tabs" and drag right or left.
Also, if you have a lot if sheets for which you want a quick vertical list, then you can try the following have something like this pop up (showing your sheet names automatically) whenever you hit a keyboard shortcut (in my case shift-command-j):
This is done via a Jump to Sheet Automator Service (Dropbox download). To install just doubleclick the .workflow package and (if needed) click 'Download Anyway' in System Preferences > Privacy & Security.
This will cause a new item to appear in your Numbers > Services menu. Then, if you want a keyboard shortcut, go here in System Preferences and add one:
You can rename or remove the service by holding down the option key in Finder and choosing Go > Library > Services. You can also view the AppleScript contaned within the service by opening the .workflow package in Automator.
This particular service jumps to the first cell of the first table of the sheet you choose from an automatically generated list of all sheets in the current document.

Firefox doesn't work with flash ubuntu

At first Firefox wouldn't work with flash videos. Now whenever I try to go to YouTube, it crashes. Whenever I try to view a video on break.com, it crashes. I have no idea how to get flash working in FF. It works in Opera, but not Firefox.
I am currently running the latest version of Ubuntu.

Adobe flash + firefox + youtbue worked great for me a few days ago, on ubunutu jaunty.
Then upgraded to firefox 3.6.7 last night, and youtube no longer works, just get a black rectangle; right-click does not bring up the usual adobe menus. The plugins dialog shows adobe flash 10.1.53 and the 'prefered applications' dialog shows adobe flash for application/x-swf & etc. mimetypes.

IDVD freezing when trying to work with old project

I am running iLife '09 and OS X 10.6.2. I burned this project successfully in the past 12/09 after creating it, however trying to burn and work with the project after some changes and iDVD will freeze or give me a grey screen and crash. Where can I look to see the cause of this? Crash Reporter has no logs of the events.

There is a bug in iDVD'09 (at least)
If You make an iDVD project
Then go back to Your movie and make a small change
Then open iDVD again - it will notice this and say to Update or Cancel
NEITHER of them works.
ONLY one medicine - Make a brand new iDVD project and re-import Your movie.
Sorry - Non has come up with a more elegant solution. (at all)

Xdotool doesn't work with flash videos

Hi,
I don't know if it's a bug or not, but xdotool doesn't seems to work with flash videos.
For example open the page http://www.miniclip.com/games/bloxorz and start the game, the left key should now move the bloc to the left.
Open a terminal and type `sleep 5; xdotool key Left ', then come back to the game.
Nothing happens.
Is there a workaround to do xdotool work with the flash videos?
I already tried with different web browsers, different flash plugins, but this works nowhere.

Working with long projects

I have a four hour long project that I would prefer to place on a single DVD. Can this be done with Compressor? Everything I have done to date fits within that 150 min.setting for DVD Best Quality.

I am starting a fairly large project (about 1 hr 15min total running time) that will have a little bit of special effects (FCP, some Motion) and a few audio tracks. I just threw together a project of the same length and am testing it now. Should I expect Compressor to take 20 hours to encode it into good quality mpeg 2? (that's what I am seeing on the screen now - I haven't rendered or exported anything) I am used to long waits when working with larger projects but that seems a bit much.
If you're using Export Using Compressor on an unrendered timeline of 75 minutes on a PowerBook then, yes, that's a very normal encoding time (especially for a timeline with many filters and/or motion effects).
However, when I use this method, I find the MPEG2 output to be substantially better than any other workflow using the Final Cut Studio apps.
Of course, if you don't need the best quality - say for a proof disc to be given to your client to check off on - I'd simply drop a QT reference movie into Compressor. Using the Fastest Encode possible, of course.

Do the Ipods work with Flash videos?

my friends and i were wondering if the ipods worked with flash vids and if so what format they should be in....

Sorry - has to be MPEG4 or H.264 format. 320x280.

Hallo Russell, I'm a beginner with Flex and Flash, and I already succeeded calling the remote object with Flex. But my company requires me to use Flash (AS3). So, could you please give me an example of ActionScript code to call a RemoteObject in BlazeDs? The url? and call string? I also use Spring behind. I tried to use the url: "http://localhost:8080/myAppName" and then the call string is "myService.getList" myService is the destination in the service-config.xml getList is the method from the remote object which is a Java class. Flash is not, and probably never will be, supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ . Plus it would be up to Adobe to make a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices - something which they have never managed to do and which they have now given up on trying to do.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter and Puffin 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, so your could try checking there for your sites (and there is the built-in YouTube app).

How come querystring variables don't work with Flash Slide

When I create a regular new Flash FLA and publish it I can
add a querystring to the file name in the object tag and get that
value back in the flash move like this:
myflashfile.swf?myname=andrew
But when I try the same thing using a new Flash Slide
Presentation with screen, it doesn't work.
Is there something I'm missing that I'm not aware of or does
the Flash Slide Presentation not support the use of querystrings?
I have tried this using a mix of PC and Mac with MX2004 Pro
and Flash 8 Pro.
Any reference links or ideas are much appreciated.
