Working with HD mp4's

Hey Everyone:
I am trying to cut up a mp4 file (HD quality) and when I export out of FCE I always comes out looking like crud. The files specs are:
Dimensions: 1258x720
Codecs: H.264, AAC, Hint, MPEG-4, ODSM, MPEG-4 SDSM.
Channel Count: 2
Total Bit Rate: 7134
FCE renders the whole thing before I can really work with it, and then when I export what was once high quality video is now ugly.
Any ideas?

1258 is not a video format. 1280x720 is. Nor is H264 a production format. It's for delivery. What format sequence are you working? The image is being scaled in some way to fit a standard format. Where are you looking at the output? You need to see it on a video monitor or at 100% in the Canvas.

  • Working with MP4 clips in CS5

    Hello to everyone
I am editing clips , video mp4 files, in CS5. I am customizing the sequence settings because each of these clips have diffrent sizes. I want to export in mp4 as well and try to keep the closer possible quality to the original file
    a) When I am exporting I set the file to be exported in the same size than the original, and this is a 16:9 format, but the exported file comes out in 4:3 , why is this? the export setting is clearly in 16:9 dimensions, like the original video and the sequence setting is
    b) to export to mp4 like the original, I am choosing the h.264 code settings, is this the way to go to keep the closest possible quality to the original?
Thanks a lot for your help and best regards

    a) In the first particular video, the one I am trying now. The export setting is
    output:  pal 440x352 25fps, AAC, 192, 48kb     and the origin sequence is  440x352 , 25, , is a 16:9 size but I am getting the video in 4:3
    b) I am working with Mac, the original video is Mp4, so should I export to Avi or quicktime then?
Thanks a lor for your help

  • PE4 crashes when working with MP4 videos

Hello everyone - just got a new Samsung HMX20 camera - shoots in full HD and creates clips in MP4 format.  I did a few tests on the cam before shooting about 111 clips today, totaling approximately 30 minutes of video.
The test worked great, looked CLEAR and fabulous.
I started PE4 and captured all the clips just fine.
However, when I try to import more than about 10 clips into a new project in PE4, it crashes (no warning or message) and goes to a blue screen, then my computer restarts.
System Specs: 1 month old HP Pavilion DV7, AMD Turion Dual-Core 2.10 GHz, 4.0 GB, 64 bit system, 184 GB free of 284.
I have a backup drive I could use if needed, but not sure if it would help - I figured it would be better to have everything on the C drive...  Although perhaps that is naive of me.
Any thoughts?  This is for a client project, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!  If you have any questions to help your understanding of the issue, feel free to ask.
I have used PE4 successfully with my older Panasonic cam (not HD), and this issue has never presented until now, when trying to work with numerous clips.
I will also post this over at movipix.
    Thanks!!

    Hi Catherine-
The link to download Super C is here:
    http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html
Go to the very bottom of the page, then click on:   Download SUPER © setup file from our 4th dedicated server
It's kind of a strange site, but I have used the program with no issues.
Then, the convert your files, you simply choose your settings...
(I'm doing HD, so I chose: Output container MPG, Codec: MPEG-II, FFMPEG encoder, no change for video scale size, no selection for aspect, 30 frames per second, bitrate 2208, TOP QUALITY checkbox checked.  I don't use the audio, as my videos will have music and a voiceover, so I checked Disable Audio.)
Then you drop you MP4 files into the window at the bottom and hit Encode (active files).
It then begins to encode them into the same folder as the originals, but with an MPEG file format!
I set mine to do this for 111 clips, and as there is no automatic "shutdown when complete" option, I guesstimated the time it would take and set my computer to shut down in 3 hours.  Worked like a charm and I was able to get some sleep!
I am then able to easily pull these clips into PE4 and work with them.
    Hope this helps!

  • Remote Not Working With QuickTime 7.3.0

Hi I just upgraded and realized my frontrow remote has stopped working with Quicktime. The remote works with VLC, iTunes etc but not QT. Forget about scanning forward or backward it cant even adjust the volume. I never had the problem before. I have tried playing both avi and mp4 files.
I run Tiger and have a macbook

    As a follow up -
I spoke with Apple Support about this and was routed to a few people who were helpful, and moved it up to the engineers of Keynote (and the white remote?) for a solution.
A few days later I received this reply:
Hello Eric, I have heard back from the engineers about this. It looks like as long as Keynote 6.0 is present on the system it will default to using the remove in that application. If you remove Keynote 6.0, which we would not recommend, then you can use Keynote 5.3 with the remote. Presently though this is normal and expected behavior.
I replied by expressing my disappointment that this wasn't functional, since I'm not comfortable using Keynote 6.0 yet.  Short of uninstalling 6.0, the only workaround I have found is to use the iPhone/iTouch Keynote remote app, or make a duplicate copy of your presentation to be opened in 6.0 (and using the remote there).

  • Can't seem to get this computer to work with 3D

I just got this qosmio f755-3d350 today.
I've spent a half day trying to get it working, and I'm starting to get frusterated with it.
    and the level of support.
Comon Toshiba, you know better then releasing a product that doesn't work. and little support.
the only thing that seems to work as far as 3D is loading a video in the blue ray player.
I've tried games, 3d viewers, mpo's, videos, even iz3d as well.
so i'm going through this link i found on the web as to check to see if everything is up to date.
    and I found this
How to check if the updates have been installed correctly
    NVIDIA display driver
    - Run [PC Diagnostic Tool] from [Start] Menu -> [All Programs] -> [TOSHIBA] -> [Utilities]
    - Check the version of [Video] if it is 8.17.12.9039 or later
    Super-D IC Driver
    - Open [Control Panel]
    - Select [Programs] – [Uninstall a program]
    - Find [SuperD spd2900gs]
    - Check if the version is 1.0.1613.809 or later
    TOSHIBA Blu-ray Disc™ Player
    - Open [Control Panel]
    - Select [Programs] – [Uninstall a program]
    - Find [TOSHIBA Blu-ray Disc™ Player ]
    - Check if the version is 1.0.1.299 or later
    BIOS
    - Run [PC Diagnostic Tool] from [Start] Menu -> [All Programs] -> [TOSHIBA] -> [Utilities]
    - Check the [BIOS Version] if it is 2.00 or later
so in checking all my drivers to make sure they are all up to date, i noticed something odd.
eeven though i downloaded and installed the latest superd driver.
    Super-D IC Driver(v1.0.1613.809; 12-16-2011; 53.66M)
when i go to my control panel/program files
it says the superd driver is
    version 1.0.0.0
i redownloaded the latest file and did an uninstal and reinstall. same thing.
so either this driver is mislabeled, or the version isn't updated in the code.
I don't really know, but wht i do know is I can't get this thing to do any 3D
except use the one installed movie viewer.
any help on this would be appreciated. I'd rather not have to use third party drivers to try
to trick my computer into working.
this really needs to be resolved and supported by toshiba. especially when people are paying 1300 - 1700 for these things.

I tried some of the games that were already installed. not 1 worked.
I tried downloading a 3d vision approved game but I got too frusterated to test it
I tried all my 3d vision apps, that work on my glasses display like cycerlink powerdvd
or me image manipulation tools for editing 3d images. Not 1 worked.
The only app I've seen work is the mp4 viewer that comes with the thing. and it only plays a couple of formats
and some vids work and some don't.
I bought the laptop so I could create my own 3D images. and display them. But not 1 thing works that works on
all other nvidia vision computers with glasses displays.ou
This to me is kinda unacceptable since this laptop claims it supports 3D and all you can do is play
    a few mp4's or dvd's.
If I would have known this. I never would have bought it.
And the most aggrevating is toshiba doesn't seem to care.
If toshiba can write a driver that makes the camera turn on, and play some mp4 movies.
they can surely fix the problem.
Especially is IZ3D is doing their job for them. but mickymouse, and works with some things.
This is unaccceptable when people are paying $1700.00 for these.
It should do what it claims to do

  • Problem with opening mp4 files in TV programmes

When I open iTunes and press CTRL+O to upload a file, in this case a tv programme with a MP4 format, nothing comes up in the section TV Programmes. Anyone who can help?
    Thanks!

    Hi Mario,
thank you very much for your response. I have tried this several times but this is not working either for me.
In the attachment you can see my iTunes printscreen. If i drag mp4 files to TV programmes and Films (which normally do work) nothing happens. Also when I try to upload this through CTRL+O nothing uploads.
Any way you have a solution for this?
    Thank you in advance.

  • I can not get the flash player plug in to work with Internet Explorer

I can not get the flash player plug in to work with Internet Explorer

    Zoltan71 wrote:

I have the box checked to Install new version automatically, but it has not done any upgrading.
I can't get the computer to update anything as far as I can see.
The flash plug in does work with the Crome browser but it will not work with Internet explorer.
I looked in the manage add-ons and it says enabled.
I also went into the safety tab and deselected
    Active X filtering.
Restarted and still does not work.
    I need help.....
Chrome uses a different and separate plug-in.
There are things about IE you need to know, especially 11. Specifically:
    "User-Agent Strings"
That doesn't mean a lot, I'm sure, but it's the root of your problems, and Flash Player has nothing to do with it.
Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser. User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video. Thanks to the geniuses in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome). Problem is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't intepret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.
The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11. YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play. Facebook can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.
Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess they've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of the websites you visit.
They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older verison of IE... Problem with that is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Working with huge files (4GB-15GB) in iMovie 11

should i keep my smaller (4GB) mp4 files in storage or use the 15GB mov files already imported into iMovie '11?
I may want to work with these files again in the future, but is it worth the space to keep it in iMovie so I don't have to reload and optimize such large files?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
That's really a question only you can answer depending on whether you need the space in the meantime. If not keep the optimised files. If you want to work not only with the event files again but the project again, you will need to keep the optimised files.

  • How can I get avi files to work with imovie08?

Hi I bought a macbook last year and have loved creating imovie videos by simply using the video function on my digital camera. My daughter was born last year and we have a great collection of clips of her first 7 months. I'd now like to take things a step further and put together a wedding video.
We had our wedding day filmed on a digital camcorder by a friend and he has given my 25MB of avi files which I would like to import into imovie and make into a video however I understand that this format isn't compatible. Is there a way of getting it to work and if so please can you tell me in very simple terms what I need to do to get the files to work with imovie? (I'm not very technical)
    Thanks
    Matt

I do not know of a way to import .avi files directly into iMovie, and I am positive that this is not actually possible as iMovie only supports the importation of .mov, .mp4 (mpeg4) and .dv filetypes.
What you could do is use a video converter (there are some good ones that are availible free, eg MPEG Streamclip (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html)) to convert those avi movie files to either of the 3 video formats iMovie supports, then import them.
MPEG Streamclip does sound a little complicated for you but it is the best I have found, any more questions just post them here.

  • Working with Heavily Compressed, Long Clips (ie DVD, h264)

Hi all. One of the main reasons I switched to Premiere back with CS5 was the mercury playback engine. I often have to make edits from many different sources and premiere allows me to just edit and not worry too much about it. I've done a good amount of reading on the way it works along with xmp metadata and the media cache and all of the various CFA/PKA files that get created to 'conform' clips. Most often these projects are short clips- the most would be a 12 minute DSLR file...
Recently, however, I had to do a project where the source was 8 DVDs, with 2 hours of footage each. My first thought was Mercury PE to the rescue! Just copy the VOBs to the hard drive and use those! On import it took a few minutes to conform, but then it had weird timecode that I couldn't change. Working with the files was somewhat responsive but not great.
(For clarity, my settings in media cache have the cache to a dedicated RAID, the "Save Media cache files next to originals" is UNCHECKED (because I don't want my project folders cluttered with extra stuff), write XMP ID is checked, "enable clip and XMP metadata linking" is checked and "Automatically refresh growing files" is checked - every 60 seconds.)
I needed the timecode to start at zero - any idea why I couldn't edit the timecode on VOB files that were copied to the hard drive? Anyway, to reset timecode and (I thought) get a better codec to work natively with, I converted to mp4 (h264) using Visualhub (old I know, but easy and stitches files together). These new files were about 3GB each, with the full DVD contents stitched together to 1 file, so I had continous timecode that started at zero (because the notes I was given were done on a DVD player). I have used DSLR h264 files before and they are fine - nothing like these, which were MUCH smaller and only around 1000kbit/sec)
Anyway, these files took longer to conform, and the CFA files created were actually LARGER than the original mp4s. They were very slow to work with, and each time I loaded a new clip into the source viewer it took 5-10 minutes before I could see anything (though audio worked). When it came time to render, an 8 minute timeline output to h264 took TWO HOURS! Each timeline had clips from multipe source files, and it seemed like every time it had to insert a clip from a different source file there was a LONG delay -- just like when the files were first imported. During this delay the render progress would not move, then it would go for a bit then another delay. What is happening here? Is it reconforming? Does it have to scan every file to export and if so why does it take so long?
Did I choose the worst possible by converting to h264? What's a better option? I really didn't want to use prores -- those file would have been huge and the quality is awful to begin with. It'd be insane overkill.
If anyone can help me wrap my head around why this seemingly easy project took me FOREVER (mostly due to invisible 'processing' by Premiere) I'd much appreciate it.
    Thanks.
    ScottieB

Fair enough but DV is large too. I'm trying to avoid getting back to huge files if I can but I understand that may not be possible. Is there some sort of intermediate between 1mbit and 25mbit? because even DV is overkill for the quality of footage Im talking about. Actually that's what makes this such a pain - it's such a silly, simple project that it seems insane to go through so much hassle. Not sure converting to DV would solve the weird timecode issue either but perhaps (it's been a while). I guess I was really just expecting this to be quick and easy.
I suppose with all the extra files being created DV wouldn't be that much bigger. I'm just shocked at how slow working with these h264 files was - especially when it came time to render. Once everything was conformed I didn't think it would have to re-scan (or whatever it was doing) when it came time to render.
    Thanks for the input.

  • I have a new imac with imovie 11 however my hd everio camcorder will only work with imovie 8 or 9 how do i download imovie 9? all i can find are updates and my mac says i don't need it

i have a new imac with imovie 11 however my everio hd camcorder will only work with imovie 8 or 9. i tried to download imovie 9 but my mac says i don't need the update. How can i download imovie 8 or 9 complete not the update?

I really appreciate all your help. Today I spent some time on the problem. First I purchased  any video converter from the ap store and then I connected the camera to the mac with the original usb cable that came with the camera. I turned on the camera and selected backup on pc and the logo came up on my home page. I opened it and after several attempts i found the 3 video files that were on the camera. I then converted them from a tod file to mp4 and then transfered  them to imovie. Now I have to figure out how to send the video to youtube or move it to an external hard drive which I have not been able to do. So far I am not too fond of imovie 11. If you could send me  the download for imovie 6 I then could try that route. When talking to apple support yesterday about the problem they suggested to get Final Cut Express. It's 200 bucks so before i order the install disc i would like to try your suggestion. My email address is [email protected] Again I thank you very much for your help! George

It works with a caveat. There is a bug that has been reported here and has yet to be fixed. MXFs are fine to edit with and such, but if you are trying to export to them the resulting file can contain below black information that wasn't present in the original file.  Check your exports.
Here is a thread on it:
Re: Data below black level 0 in h264 mp4 files.
(look at the waveform screen captures in the middle of the thread.)
I am still having to use CS 6.03 for all of my mxf exports until Adobe resolves this issue. Been reporting it for years now. It's a pain.

  • Adobe CS4 not Working with video

I started a project in HDV.. 720P. And i tried importing some Video and its not working. Its stuck on the first frame only. Even When I Export. I exported an animation i did in Carrara in 720. Imported it into CS4 and it it stuck on the first frame. It's not the only video that doesn't work. A lot of my footage is not importing right. It's running perfectly in VLC and even in Vegas 9. I don't know why it's not working. Any Help fellas. I thought it might be a Codec problem but it's not . It should come withe Premiere. And i tried GSPOT and it said no codec needed. I'm primarily working with AVIs. I even tried changing the Extension. No luck Please. I need Help ASAP. Marketing assignment due soon.
    (2nd EXPLANATION SAME PROB)
Hey Guys. Just got adobe Premiere CS4. I've been trying to import some footage into it for editing but it's either a hit or miss. I thought it was my computer and or graphics card but when i tried it on my PC instead of my laptop i had the same issue. I start with a new document HDV. With 720P at 25fps. And i tried importing footag but all i get it the first frame or so.. I Rendered an animation out of carrara withe 1280 X 768.. or whatever it was and it didnt budge.. Even after i pressed enter to render work area.. I tried importing some other footage and it didn't work.. I then tried importing other 720P stuff.. some work some didn't. But without audio. I imported a clip of Sherlock holmes in 720P. It looked nice.. but again.. no audio.. Do i need codecs? or something. I mean all the videos that i try to import play well in VLC.. I even tried changing the extension from avi, to mov, to mp4... Nothing.. CS4 even rejected MOV, and WMV... wierd.. ok.. well any ideas folks.. I ned this up and running asap. Becuse before i start working in after effects and all that i'd like to know this is working first.. or so god help me i'll use Vegas.. =(

First let me say that I have been fighting PrPro CS4 for about 4-5 days now, and only just started reading in here to figure out what i could do to "fix" my problem. I was having all sorts of fits with the playback inside of PrPro freezing and then "not responding." I came across all kinds of posts about computers, memory, drivers and settings, operating systems and all of that. It wasn't until some one that is also having struggles stated that they had a USB drive for unrelated storage did the light go on. So I disconnected my 2 USB drives (one a 250GB desktop Thermaltake drive and the other a 320GB WD My Passport) and loaded up a project that had all been rendered useless. VOLA, working like a charm now. Just like old times, I love my PrPro CS4, where about 2 hours ago I was ready to start working on my resume...lol
Bottom line, don't leave a USB drive hooked up.

  • Problem with reading mp4 files with QT 7.4.1 or mpeg Streamclip

    Hi,
I used to convert some .flv files into .mp4 files with iSquint and then into .dv files with mpeg Streamclip in order to re-work and compile these files on a DVD using iMovie and iDVD.
However I cannot do it anymore since I upgraded to QT 7.4.1. iSquint uses the mpeg-4 video codec to convert the file. Therefore I cannot open them with QT 7.4.1 anymore and I cannot convert them into .dv files with mpeg Streamclip anymore since Streamclip is uses a QT plug-in.
I have tried to solve the problem using Perian but this plug-in does not work with my version of Mac (Panther 10.3.9). I also tried to downgrade to an older QT using Pacifist but it nearly crashed my whole computer (fortunately I could fix that by reinstalling QT 7.4.1).
Has someone a solution to my problem?
    Thank you in advance.
    Steve

Not all the following will apply to Panther (10.3.x) so look carefully on the sites mentioned for the correct versions:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • QT 7.4.5 did **not** fix the problem with some .mp4s

It has been 3 versions now - 7.4, 7.4.1, 7.4.5 - since Apple broke the ability of QuickTime Player to play some .mp4 files. Apple says it is because they have some kind of malformed headers, yet they play fine in iTunes. So why can't QT Player play them, and some people report they have problems when put into Keynote?
Apple has broken functionality for lots of users. Time and again this bug has been brought to their attention. It apparently is a design decision not to fix this, and it is a big disappointment.

    The story so far:
If you are having problems playing MPEG4 video in Quicktime 7.4 (and Apple are aware that some users have had such problems) you should carefully check in
    /Library/Quicktime and
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins and
    Home/Library/Quicktime
to check whether you have any third party plug-ins that are not completely up to date.
Current versions of Flip4Mac and DiVX and Perian do NOT cause failure alone or in combination. However the one SPECIFIC extension that ALWAYS causes the failure alone or in groups is 3ivxMediaImp. All other 3ivx extensions DO work. Remove only that ONE SPECIFIC extension.
Please try this and see if it fixes your problem with QT Player, the QT Firefox Plugin, and iTunes not playing MPEG4 files (including mp4 files).
Older 3ivx and DivX components are often incompatible with new QuickTime versions and are, in many cases, obviated by component packs like Perian.
This is not the only explanation for issues with MPEG4 file playback in QuickTime 7.4 and later, however. The issue with videos from democracynow.org and others, for instance, is the result of that content not complying with MPEG4 standards (namely that they use bogus track dimensions). QuickTime had previously ignored invalid track dimensions but this was changed in order to support properly authored anamorphic content.
The recent update to QT 7.4.1 fixed a number of issues but some problems are unavoidable when working with non-standards compliant content. The standards are important for many reasons including keeping hackers from manipulating improperly coded web pages.
A further problem was the fact that the developers of iSquint conceded that in many cases, the files do not play because they have been created in a non-standard way (the tool used to create them was broken). They have therefore included a Debreaker as a part of the latest version of iSquint. If your files are of this type, then you can run them through this app without having to downgrade QuickTime. This could save you a lot of hassle!

However, in other cases, there is a workaround (also the basis for why those files will still play in iTunes): there are a few ways to trick QuickTime into ignoring the invalid track data. For instance, rename the files .3GP and they'll show up just fine.
Post back if you want a list of the plug-ins you should have in order to play pretty much anything in Quicktime.
The recent (mostly security) update to Quicktime 7.4.5 has not changed the situation as described.
