Working with image sizes/copy and paste

I have two different jpeg files open in photoshop cs4, one is 72 ppi, 8 inches wide by 6 inches tall at 16.67% zoom. The other is about 60 inches wide by 45 inches tall, 72 ppi, at 100% zoom. I was wanting to take an element (a person) out of the 8x6 image and paste it into the 60x45 but when I do it's super small, smaller than I want it. I tried playing with the zoom and resolution but can't get two differing image sizes to match up in size. Can such a thing be done and if so, how do I do it? Thanks in advance

300 ppi at actual size is "default" standard for book and magazine print, unless you're specifically told otherwise.
IOW, it boils down to pixel count again. Remember, resolution = pixels per inch. Think of ot as a simple equation, and like any such equation, you can calculate one if you have the two others (or let the Image Size dialog do it for you).
Resolution without a physical print size is meaningless, an "empty" figure.
As for file format, you can't go wrong with TIFF, lossless and cross-platform, and with support for anything you might conceivably want to put into the file. But jpeg is usually accepted in a pinch (e.g. if you have to mail them).

Then I just uninstalled the whole firefox that i had used forever....and re-installed all over again....tried it, same error msgs....tried the tool site again on that, and still same error msgs. why don't you folks have a phone number i can call and talk to an actual person to walk me thru this problem? am an old 70 yr old lady who has always depended on firefox.

I actually found under EDIT then Catalog settings / then metadata that the automatic write changes to XMP had been unchecked. Once I check this, it updated and connected all the keywords to the pictures. Now when I copy and paste the keywords show up as I can now detect them in Adobe bridge when before I couldn't see them even though they were in lightroom. . Thanks for your input.

How can I get copy and paste to work in Lion?

Never had any problem using copy and paste function on my old iMac (Snow Leopard OS X). Just bought a new iMac with Lion. Now, the copy and paste function won't work.
Tried to copy and paste a web link into a Mail message unsuccessfully (tried select text, command C, then command V- no luck. Then tried select text, menu bar Edit- Copy, then Edit-Paste- No luck. Last, tried right-click menu,Copy, then right-click Paste- no luck). Also, selected some text in an email message and tried to copy and paste it elsewhere in the same email message- no luck. Opened TextEdit and used all the above techniques and could not copy and paste into TextEdit. Also could not use copy and paste to work in Safari when I tried it when working in a gmail message.
This is extremely frustrating. I searched but could not find a fix that addressed this precise issue.
Please help. When suggesting fixes, please recognize that I'm an intermediate user- not a beginner, but also not an advanced techie.

Something seems to be interfering with those functions.
Two troubleshooting steps to try.
First, boot into Safe Mode and see if it still occurs. If it doesn't, then there is some third-party program interfering.
To boot into Safe Mode, hold down the shift key on restart when you hear the tone. Hold until the gray screen. It does take longer to boot as it runs some checks. It will also boot to the login screen regardless of your login settings.
Second, try a new user account. If it works there, it is isolated to your particular account and not the whole system.

Photoshop CS3 & Outlook 2007 - Can't copy and Paste

I've recently converted to win7 and office 2007. Under vista and office 2003 I could select an embedded image in an email, copy it to the clipboard, and then do a file/new in photoshop and paste the image. Every since going to vista and office 2007, this will not work. I can select the image and copy it, but photoshop cannot paste it. The paste command remains greyed out.
I tried copy and past into Microsoft Paint and that works. I tried copy and paste in Paint Shop Pro XI and that works. I tried copy and paste from Paint Shop to photoshop and that works. I just can't copy and paste from outlook 2007 to photoshop.
Is this another "feature" from microsoft?

I just made a quick test with Outlook 2007 and Photoshop CS5 64 and 32 bit on Windows7 64 bit.
From the embedded images that I tried in Outlook there are 2 kinds of selections, one that works and another that doesn't. I'm not familiar at all with designing emails and don't even know what programs, scripting, programing, etc is used for creating and designing emails (I won't mind if someone enlightens me) but when I right click on a image and choose copy on some of the images appear selection handles similar to the transformation box in Photoshop and I can even move the handles in Outlook as if it is going to scale the images but it does nothing at the end. When I copy images with such selection handles they cannot be pasted in Photoshop where Paste menu is dimmed, but can be pasted in other programs like Microsoft Paint and even in other Adobe programs like Illustrator, Flash, and Dreamweaver, but not in InDesign where pasting produced an empty text box. Then if I copy the pasted image from any of these programs I can paste it without a problem in Photoshop.
Now here's the trick, copy and paste works from Outlook to Photoshop if the image doesn't show these slection handlles when I right click and choose copy, but when it does, if I select it in a different way, like a text by dragging between before and end of image to highlight it, then right clicking and choosing copy works without a problem when pasting it in Photoshop.
Have you tried reporting this issue to Adobe? I have made feature requests in the forum for that on this site but I have never reported bugs and don't know what are the channels. If it hasn't been reported, I think they will be interested to know this issue.

Can no longer copy and paste from MS apps

Could be a nightmare a-brewin'.
As webmaster for a transit company, I'm responsible for
updating the schedules for our 50+ bus routes three times a year on
piercetransit.org. So I opened one up today in Dreamweaver 8 and
launched our brand new version of Excel Mac 2008 to copy and paste
schedule times into a web page. And it didn't work!
Up til now, Excel has been an irreplaceable tool for
converting data from our weird, 70's-era bus scheduling software
[Hastus] into something Dreamweaver can understand. But no matter
how much I fiddle with options under Copy and Paste preferences,
today I got nothing -- literally. It's as if there's nothing
whatsoever on the clipboard. Earlier, I'd noticed the same problem
with our new version of Word, but since I rarely paste anything
into Dreamweaver from Word, I was only mildly irked by it. Given
the thousands of bus arrival and departure times on our site,
however, the inability to insert data from Excel into DMW would be
a disaster!
Am I just missing something, or is this some kind of "How
dare you use anything other than one of OUR products?"

This has been an issue with Office 2008 for Mac even with the
CS3 version of Dreamweaver. I believe the only workaround is to do
a paste special as text only but you will lose formatting this way.
You can do a search on this forum also for other suggestions
because I didn't follow the old topics before because I didn't
upgrade till recently, but there might be some other tricks around
here.

Copy and paste ios 5

Are anybody working on copy and paste problem on ios5? I thought that it will be fixed in 5.0.1 but not, still I can't copy and paste from Safari to email attachments or paste images.

The copy and paste feature hasn't changed in iOS 5. If it doesn't work for you, maybe you should consider restoring the iPad to factory settings and then rebuild your iPad - adding the content back to the device slowly and carefully.
You could even try restoring from a backup, which is not as painful or time consuming, and it just might work for you.

Copy and paste take too long

I am having trouble with Adoby Illustrator "copy" and "paste" functions. It take a very long time (as long as 30 min) to copy a simple line and even longer to paste it. This probles is getting worse. My file size is unusual as well. A comparable file is 155k and this one is up to 65 meg and growing.
What is wrong and how do I fix it?

How were you able to try the solutions if you did not know where the prefs file is???
Try again, and actaully what they labeled as solution 2 & 3 need to both be done to fix this. In the meantime do NOT copy anything from the infected file to any other file, or this will spread like wildfire to all your files.

Copy and Paste on Mac OSX

Dumb question I know but I wrote a Java Swing application that works just fine on Windows.
I had a user try it on Mac OSX and she said that cut and paste were not working. She was copying tags from DreamWeaver and trying to paste them on a JTextField. I am just relying on the standard java functionality to provide this (I have not written any specialized cut and paste).
Can anybody enlighten me with the keyboard copy and paste commands that should work on a Mac for a JTextField (or any other Swing object for that matter)? And is there any reason why this would ever not work?

I hate guessing but I will assume that you mean Word.
Where do you copy the picture from, and what is the error message when you attempt to paste?

Copy and Paste from Excel to Applet

Hi,
I'm having a problem with trying to copy and paste data from Excel to an Applet (JTable). The copy and paste works fine when I run the standalone applet, but when it's embedded into a HTML page and placed in an app server, it would not recognize what's on the clipboard, so nothing gets pasted. Any ideas?

My guess is that you get an security exception. An applet has to by signed to enable cut & paste with excel.

HP Photosmart C2780 All-in-one won't work with Image Capture

I want to use Image Capture as the scanning software but it won't connect to my scanner (HP Photosmart C2780 All-in-one). When I go to browse devices it shows the scanner but when i click on "Use Twain UI", nothing happens, and it is supposed to ask me if I want to connect. I believe that I have followed all of the instructions correctly but nothing is happening. Does the HP Photosmart C2780 even work with Image Capture? and if it does what am I doing wrong?

Install the HP Drivers from HP.
I installed V9.7.1 from the HP website:

This provides 'Hp Device Manager' which will scan images or do OCR on text pages....

I am not an expert on this but I can tell you how I would
start to approach this task.
First, create menu commands for cut copy and paste, and
map short-cut keys to them.
When I got a cut or copy command, I would call the clipboard
methods defined on WindowSystem (p. 545 in Display Library
manual for Release 2). Same thing for paste. At least
it seems to me that this is what you want to do -- move
objects to and from the clipboard.
There are also methods for finding the focus in various
widgets but I bet you (or someone else) can find them! :-)

I wonder why the Windows Look and feel doesn't just put a "cut, copy, paste, clear and select all" menu as default for JTextFields and areas. When you use AWT, you get that for free.
Anyways, read above, but I will add that you can build your menu with the cut copy and paste actions of the JTextField object ...

In Editor, go to the expert tab.
Open picture B, the one you wish to select the radio from to add to another picture.
Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object. You will see an outline ("marching ants") once the selection is complete
Go to Edit menu>copy to copy the selection to the clipboard
Open picture A, then go to Edit>paste
Use the move tool to position object from picture B.
In the layers palette you should see picture A as the background layer, and the radio B on a separate layer.

New 3.0 Firmware Copy and Paste not working with images

I have a 3G, 3.0 firmware, and whenever I copy and paste from Safari to email the images always come in as text links NOT as shown in the demo videos on the iPhone website, what gives?

How do I copy and paste images without a reduction in size?

I am working on a project where I want to include several jpeg images that are saved on my computer onto a new single 8.5x11 page in Photoshop. Even though the percentages are the same on both the images and the Photoshop page, when I copy and paste the images onto the page, the size of the images are greatly reduced (from 5" to 1".) I would greatly appreciate instruction on how to copy images and paste them on to a Photoshop page without the reduction in image size. I have accomplished this task previously and I had no problem. Is there a setting that I am unaware of that I need to change in order to proceed with the project as planned? Thank you for your time.
