Working with labelled vector graphics (CS4)

I've working with a rather large set of simple geometric vectors.
They've all been created in illustrator, but need to be scaled in InDesign and flow with the text.
The only method I've come up with is somewaht convoluted, so I thought I'd share and see if anyone had any suggestions on how I might improve the workflow.
- vector graphic is pasted (not placed) into InDesign and ungrouped
- strokes are converted (manually) to object styles (graphic styles created in illustrator are lost)
- graphis is regrouped and roughly scaled
- labels are added and paragraph styles applied
- labels are grouped with graphic, cut, and "paste into" anched text box
- re-scaling and label edits are done with select content/container/next object
More complicated graphics will be linked and rescaled in illustrator and relabelled and placed as above.
Is there a better/easier way to do this?
(Maybe CS5 will have a container isolation mode...)

I want to keep the labels out of illustrator, but there are a few graphics with more detail that percentage scaling is the way to go.
It would be far easier if InDesign would respect (i.e. import, map) Illustrator's graphic styles.

  • Can motion 5 work with imported vector graphics?

Hey everyone, does motion 5 allow you to import vector artwork files such as eps or adobe illustrator files?

You need to change your illustartor or eps files to pdf (either in illustratrator or preview). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can keep your layers.
One thing to look out for... the default is for the pdf to be rasterized - if you don't want jaggies you turn it off by selecting it in the media tab, then go to the inspector media tab > media controls and click off Fixed Resolution (or give it a higher fixed width/height). Not extremely intuitive, but it gets the job done...

  • Speed up Illustrator CC when working with large vector files

Raster (mainly) files up to 350 Mb. run fast in Illustrator CC, while vector files of 10 Mb. are a pain in the *blieb* (eg. zooming & panning). When reading the file it seems to freeze around 95 % for a few minutes. Memory usage goes up to 6 Gb. Processor usage 30 - 50 %.
Are there ways to speed things up while working with large vector files in Illustrator CC?
    System:
    64 bit Windows 7 enterprise
    Memory: 16 Gb
Processor: Intel Xeon 3,7 GHz (8 threads)
    Graphics: nVidia Geforce K4000

Files with large amounts vector points will put a strain on the fastest of computers. But any type of speed increase we can get you can save you lots of time.
Delete any unwanted stray points using  Select >> Object >> stray points
    Optimize performance | Windows
Did you draw this yourself, is the file as clean as can be? Are there any repeated paths underneath your art which do not need to be there from live tracing or stock art sites?
Check the control panel >> programs and features and sort by installed recently and uninstall anything suspicious.
Sorry there will be no short or single answer to this, as per the previous poster using layers effectively, and working in outline mode when possible might the best you can do.

Sounds just like what was happening with my Alum MB. I took it in and they replaced my battery. It seems to be ok now. I don't know what it is, but my battery was fine before 10.5.6 and the same timeframe of the firmware updates when they came out.
My battery health was jumping around but was fine before all of this happened. Unfortunately at 381 cycles I don't think you have much chance of getting the battery for free. Perhaps you can complain about the battery saying it was fine until 10.5.6 or whatever. Not sure when your computer was made, but perhaps you are eligible for this program: http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/

Updates to get flex working with the Vector stuff. Had to add support for the new name type, and new applytype opcode to the Optimizer/Merger that flex uses. Also had to slightly change how the instantiated vector classes find their declared methods. Previously they were copied into the new class, but now they just point to the original vector class.

despite the workaround, it doesn't fix the real problem. It shouldn't be a huge deal for adobe to add support for multiple svn versions. Dreamweaver is the first tool i've used that works with svn that doesn't support several types of svn meta data. If they're going to claim that Dreamweaver supports svn is should actually support svn, the current version, not a version several years old. This should have been among the first patches released, or at least after snow leopard came out (and packaged with it the current version of svn).
does anyone know if the code that handles meta data formatting is something that is human readable, or where it might be, or is it in compiled code.
i signed up for the forums, for the sole purpose of being able to vent about this very frustrating and disappointing situation.

  • How can I get Lion to work with label printer- Brother  QL 570 or Dymo 450 Turbo?

I can't get Lion to work with label printers, either Brother QL 570 or Dymo Turbo 450. I want to uninstall Lion and use Snow Leopard unless there is a way to make Lion work with these devices. Any ideas?

Dymo has released new drivers since Lion came out. Have you downloaded and
installed them from the Dymo website?
Some people have said that their Dymo label printers were set to off line by Lion, but
worked fine after going to Print & Scan, selecting the Dymo printer, and making sure
it was active/on-line. I had to do that with my Dymo 450 Label Writer.
I cannot offer any tips about Brother, but you may wish to check their website
    for latest drivers.

I am just starting out in graphic design and I wanted to know how to get more involved with either adobe and or graphic design? I am really very interested in working with adobe and graphic design more and becoming more involved with both!!

I have now recently downloaded 10.0.2 which is confusing in itself, as, as far as I can ascertain that is actually version 11, but I'm not even sure about that.
Version 10.0.2 is the newest version and the successor to GarageBand '11 (version 6.0.5).
The '11 is referring to the iLife '11 suit of multimedia application - the older GarageBand was a part of this bundle.
Have a look at Edgar's graphical enhanced manuals, the explain very detailed how things work and why. You can buy them as iBooks from the iBook store or directly from the page:

  • Slow rendering when working on large vector graphic

I'm having difficulty working on vector images - Panning, zooming, selecting etc... everything is lagging constantly. I can't figure out what is wrong. It only happens if the image is too complicated (Yes, it does contains several hundredths of anchors points).
The computer was originally used for CADing, but I now primarly use it for AI, PS, ID and 3D image composing using Deep exploration/3D via Composer (Deep exploration/3Dvia does not work properly becuase the lack of video memory). I have tried to work with the same type of vector image using a different computer (equipped with Nividia Geforce 9600M 512MB). Same result as the previous computer, everything is lagging. Although, when using Deep exploration/3Dvia it works smooth. So I rule out that the video card is the problem.
In addtion, neither of the computers work on 100%. So I can rule out that the CPU is not the issue either.
Can anyone tell me what the hell is wrong...?
    Hardware:
    Computer 1
    CPU: Intel C2D 6400 2.13GHz
Graphic: Nvidia Qudro FX 560 128MB (CAD)
    RAM: 3GB
    HDD: 500GB (7200)
    Computer 2
    CPU: T9700
    Graphic: Nividia Geforce 9600M 512MB (3D)
    RAM: 3GB
    HDD: 500 (5400RPM)
    //Vincent

    Three possible culprits:
    1) Has your artwork got embedded images? If so, link them instead of embedding. Linked files weigh next to nothing.
    2) Are you saving your file with pdf compatibility? If you are, don't unless you have to. The pdf component makes files much heavier
    3) Does viewing the file in outline view (Cmd+Y, Mac / Ctrl+Y, Windows) speed things up? If so, there may be something wrong with your screen memory.
    1) Nope, it's just a AI file with bunch of anchor points.
    2) It is opened as a PDF, but once I save it as a AI file, it reacts the same.
    3) Not at all... it is the same.
    Screen memory?

  • Working with big vectors

My program works with a large vector of objects.
The problem is that the vector is to big to be stored in memory.
Is there any utility that will store the whole vector in a file
and seamlessly cache parts of it to memory ?
    Thanks.

It seems I will have to build my own file mapping.
Since all my objects have the same size (e.g. all
    Integers or String),
what is the best and fast way to read a specific
object (e.g. vector[200]) ? Also, what is the fast way
to read a bulk of objects (e.g. vector[200-300]) ?If your are dealing with integers or Strings I don't think you should go for a Vector filled with objects solution. You can minimize the memory requirements quite a bit if you use arrays.
Integers. Why not use an int array? Each int takes up 4 bytes in memory but an Integer Object adds an overhead of maybe 16 byte. If you use int's your memory need shrinks to a fifth.
Strings. A char takes 2 bytes. Maybe you can store a String as a byte array instead, thus saving 1 byte per char. The memory need shrinks to a half. It would be even more efficient if you just dumped all strings in one large byte array (with a null byte terminating each string). In addition you would need a second array with the start positions to the strings.
These are the densest in memory data structures you can get. If you still have too much data you will have to go for files. The in memory solutions I've suggested can be directly used with files (just substitute array with file).

  • Will the mid-04 AGP 2.5 DP work with PCI-X graphics (ati radeon 7000?)

Got a G5 with a burnt out AGP slot, will it work with this? ---->http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Mac-G4-G5-ATI-Radeon-7000-PCI-64MB-Video-Card-DVI- VGA-S-Video-TV-Out-OS9-/200710223413#vi-content

Okay now is there any possible fix? I just turned it on and it the display came up just fine. But then I tried to boot it off of my powerbook from firewire and no show.I don't have it screwed down because I have been swapping cards but should I try that or are there any other suggestions?

  • Working with InDesign CS3 and CS4

I'm a graphic design student and recently bought InDesign CS4 for my home computer, but all the media labs on campus only have CS3. Is there a way I can constantly work on one file, switching from one version to the other? I heard there's a way to save CS4 as a CS3 file, but will a CS3 file open in CS4?

CS4 will open a CS3 file. To go the other way, export from CS4 to INX.
CS3 (if fully patched) will open INX from CS4. Don't use CS4-only
features, and expect to run into some problems with text wrap changing.

  • Syntax highlighting not working with label on if statement in fortran in Visual studio 2010

I am having a difficult time in figuring out the syntax highlighting in Visual studio. I am using fortran code and there are labels in if statements as follows:
                if_2003: IF (FRAC_PBED(NNSED,L).LT.0.0.AND.
         +                   FRAC_PBED(NNSED,L).GT.SMALL_NEG_NO) THEN
                  FRAC_PBED(NNSED,L) = 0.0
           TSED_PBED(1,NNSED,L) = 0.0
         END IF if_2003
So the problem I am having is when I click on the `if` next to label `if_2003`, then I cannot use `CTRL + ]` to move to the ending `if`. If there is no label before `if`, then the shortcut is working fine. I don't know what I could do so that it would start
behaving as it is supposed to.
In the contrary, when I have do loop as follows:
        do_410: DO NNSED=1,NSTD
             D50AVG(L) = D50AVG(L) +
             +                 FRAC_ALAY_SURF(NNSED,L)*D50(NNSED)/10000.  ! BASED ON BED COMPOSITION
        C
             TSED_ALAY_SURF(2,NNSED,L)=TSED_ALAY_SURF(1,NNSED,L)
             TSED_ALAY_BUFF(2,NNSED,L)=TSED_ALAY_BUFF(1,NNSED,L)
             TSED_PBED(2,NNSED,L)=TSED_PBED(1,NNSED,L)
                  END DO do_410
I can move to the end/start of `do` loop using the keyboard shortcut `CTRL + ]`. Any suggestions is appreciated.

    Hello Jdbaba,
Based on my research, your post is related to use fortran in Visual Studio:https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-math-kernel-library-intel-mkl-for-windows-build-intel-mkl-program-with-intel-fortran-in-microsoft-visual-studio This
technology is provided by Intel. So the question should be consulted on Intel fortran related forum. Not Visual Studio Setup forum, setup forum is about install/uninstall Visual Studio.

  • Better way to work with AE and Premier CS4

I've read most of what's been said about rendering and planning your work before you begin. However, I have a very large 1 minute AE file that was already created with HD settings. All I needed to do was drag and drop my footage and text - which I did in seconds.
I'm using the 1 minute as an intro to a video I'm creating in Primier CS4, SD 16:9, 720x480 NTSC. My question is:
    a) rendering this clip is taking about 4 1/2 hours. Using QuickTime movie, no compression. Remember is HD and HUGE. Should I do it this way?
    b) Would it be better to use Adobe Bridge and bring the un rendered project into Premier, choosing Fit to Screen?
    c) Would it be better to export it as an HD .avi file, bring it into Media Encoder and downsize the file and THEN import the single .avi clip into Premier?
What do you suggest will give me the most stable and clear one minute intro?
I'm working in Windows 7, 64 bit, 2 hard drives: C and Video. Have the Production Suite. 8 GB Ram. System is 3 years old and was built by a certified Adobe dude.
Thanks for anything you can give me.

As Dave said, confusion everywhere. It's pretty clear that you know little to nothing about AE and thus don't know which levers and knobs to tweak. In so many words, none of your ideas makes any sense, as it's actualyl ridiculously easy to downsize content in AE, eitehr by nesting it in a notehr composition as a layer and using "fit to comp" or scaling it in the output module settings. The rest is neither here nor there -
"stable and clear" are just a matter of perception. Yes, from a technical POV using uncompressed is always a safe bet, but that won't do you any good if you do something silly when scaling the footage. So we're back to square one no matter what. Therefore I strongly suggest you read the AE help and this:
    Getting started with After Effects
And yes, depending on what's involved in that template project, the rendering time could be perfectly normal.

  • Quickest way to work with Alpha'd Graphics on Timeline

    Hi All,
What do a simple Graphics Overylay for a video we are editing.  Basically want to edit a split screen video and over lay a graphic to give it nice branding.
To achiveve this have two layers of video with a Graphic over the top with an Alpha Channel punched out to show video underneath. We are using a Pro-Res Timeline.   The video footage is shot on Canon 5D transferred to Pro Res 422.  Timeline matches those settings.   The graphics overlay will created in after effects have animated into and outro of it.   But majority of time will be stilled.
As I see it this could be achieved by following methods
Exporting an Animation Codec video from AE which can have an Alpha Channel.  Downside is size of files and render times.
Exporting an Animation Code video for animated intro and outro and then using TIFF/TGA for stilled bits .. Upside: Smaller file sizes however there is a colour flick in change from Video to Still?  Is there away round this?
Any other ideas workflows that maximise editing time and reduces render times on the FCP timeline..
We want the best workflow to make finalising the video quickest - we are working onsite and time will be crucial, especially in render a the end and as we go along.
    Cheers
    Rob

Yes thats excellent thanks for the help..
Do I set the timeline settings the same as the Alpha footage or the DSLR footage - eg.   Pro-res  4444 or Pro Res 422?
    Cheers

  • How to install and work with label templates?

I'm designing some product labels including text and graphics and want to print them on to Avery labels, 21 per A4 sheet. Is there a way I can design the label and then get it to print multiple copies on to the avery sheet without having to copy and paste the whole time?

Thank you, that's certainly helps - now I' guess I've just got to work out how to set up the grid so it exactly fits the labels and prints in the right place!
