Working with laptop plugged in?

Apparently, it's bad for battery life to work with my Macbook Pro plugged in. I work with it plugged in after it dies from being drained, and almost ALWAYS when I play Sims3 because it brings the fan up because of the graphics use.
Is it bad, good, or nothing at all?

But in the unibody MBPs, the battery is quite effectively isolated from the major heat-producing components of the machine. Charging itself is the only operation that significantly heats the battery, and the charging process is controlled to limit that (which is why it takes a long time to charge the battery). When the battery is fully charged, charging stops, and the battery is allowed to remain cool until charging begins again when the charge level falls below 95%. So there is no harm at all in leaving the AC adapter connected 90-95% of the time. Just be sure to run the machine on battery power for an hour or two every day or two, as Apple says, "to keep the electrons moving."

Yes, thats it, key point being its 1.35Volt memory. All mid-2012 and on MBP take 1.35V mem.

G70 120EA wont work with battery plugged in

Hello,
I have a HP G70-120EA which, for all intents and purposes, works fine, except when it comes to the battery.
If the laptop is turned off and the battery is plugged in the lights etc are there to show power from the adapter and the battery light is on, but the machine will not physically start up.
With just the mains plugged in and no battery the machine works without a hitch.
I have also tried plugging the battery in once it has started booting (before windows) in the hope it might kickstart the machine, but it will automatically turn off.
The machine is out of warrenty now (well over a year out), so no hope of returning it to HP for repairs.
Any help or suggestions is welcome, I am pretty comfortable with carrying out basic internal repairs if that might be a problem that any of you recognise.

I'd suggest taking a close look at the "Troubleshoot the battery" section and make sure you've covered it all, but if so, and it's still not working, it seems like it might be time to get a new battery. This document shows you how to identify and order the correct replacement part:

Encrypt Message does not work with new Plug-in 7.3

I installed the new Email Security Plug-in 7.3 but now the Encrypt Message button does not work. It is grayed out and unavailable when I attempt to create a new message.
I first tried installed 7.3 over the previous version but every time I opened Outlook I received an error message about XML not loading. I uninstalled the plugin, rebooted and installed it clean and that took care of the XML message. But I then found the encrypt button issue and have not been able to solve that issue. This is not isolated to my machine as I have tried installing it on another machine that never had the plug-in installed before.

My understanding is that they completely rewrote it, which is probably why an upgrade doesn't work well...
I did get one way of deploying figured out, the stuff on page 3-20 has some errors.
Here's what I did that works:
     Do a clean install on a machine that doesn't have any plugin installed.
     Copy the C:\Users\All Users\Cisco\Cisco IronPort Email Security Plug-In\Common directory and its contents to a network accsible share, say \\fs1\share\pluginconfig, so you now have \\fs1\share\pluginconfig\Common, etc...
     Copy your BCE_Config_Signed.xml file to the Common folder
     Rename that to config_1.xml
     Edit the CommonEncryptionConfig.xml to have the following XML:
      Now you can push the install with a command line that references the folder (the example on page 3-20 is wrong, no 's' ):
            CiscoIronPortEmailSecurity-7-3-0-102.exe /exenoui /qn UseCustomConfig="\\fs\share\pluginconfig"
       (if you're doing it on the same machine you did the clean install with, you should uninstall it first...)

Magic Mouse only works with laptop open

I bought the Magic Mouse so I could wirelessly awaken my laptop while it was closed and connected to the television.
It worked for months. Now when I awaken the laptop with the mouse it turns on for one second and then turns off.
The mouse works perfectly fine with the laptop open and using the television as a "second monitor". It no longer works how I prefer it with the laptop closed (it's much better because then the sound comes through the TV and not the laptop speakers).
Why did this suddenly happen?

I understand that you are using an external display with your MacBook Pro and when you close the display on your MacBook Pro, the second display turns off. It sounds as though your MacBook Pro may not be connected to power while using with display closed. Please read over the attached article for information on using a second display in closed-clamshell mode.

10.6.8 Bluetooth mouse has quit. But the mouse works with laptop and Mavericks.

OSX 10.6.8 iMac - Bluetooth mouse has quit. Batteries are good and the mouse works on Maverick laptop. It seems something is wrong in the operating system. I can't do a Safe Boot from the keyboard. Your thoughts, please.

Palm tx only works with charger plugged in

My palm tx only works when plugged into ac charger. Symptoms began after I left device unused for about 2 weeks. When plugged in I get the battery charging symbol. The battery icon says 100%. As soon as I unplug charger, the device dies. I have left plugged in for 2.5 hrs and still won't work when I unplug. I have tried hard reset with no improvement.
Do I need new battery?

One last ditch effort - plug in to the charger, and press the Reset button. Let the TX go through a soft reset and let it charge for a few hours.
If still no joy, then yes it sounds like your battery has reached the end of its useful life.
Many places online will repair it for you, or let you purchase a battery and DIY. Check out directfix.com for a repair video on the TX.

How to make redirects work with NSAPI plug-in

We have a NSAPI plug-in on a Iplanet server which routes any URL request with "weblogic"
on it to a WebLogic server with a PathTrim. eg. http://ksopsd01/weblogic/myapp/login.jsp.
All my forwards are working fine except any redirection. My redirects fails
as it does not have the "weblogic" in it. Is there anyting like PathPrepend to
get my redirects working? Or do I need to hardcode "weblogic" in all my redirections.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

MSN (now Microsoft) Messenger for Mac cannot use ANY camera unless you are using the "corporate" version. The personal version is a text only app.

Your posted system info shows that you are still using Mac OS X (10.5.1). If that is correct, you may want to consider the advantages of updating to the latest version of Leopard.

GDM 5410 doesn't work with laptop

I recently bought it and it used to work for the owner with his desktop. I saw it myself. However, when I try to connect to my laptop, it says "Monitor is fine, but there is no signal from the computer". Can you please direct me to what I should do to make it work? GPS not working with something plugged in headphone jack aux jack

Ok I have an iPhone 3GS and a car kit from Belkin that uses the aux jack in my car, if I plug the cable in the GPS stops working. I tried different cables different car and tried my wife and daughters iPhones all with the same result. I have G-Maps, Motion X, AT&T Nav, same outcome all 3 apps.

weird, cause I use it daily for GPS, for the sound. it is a sound ouput, don't how it is possible to interfer with the GPS. In my car I have to specifically choose the audio source for the car kit (from within the kit). What do you mean exactly it stops working?
what happens if you plug in a headset? Myabe try in different car!

My sound says I have headphones plugged into my iPad, when I don't. Also sound only works with headphones plugged in

I have tried turning my iPad on and off (3 times!!!), I have tried cleaning the headphone thing (where it's plugged in), and I have tried plugging in and unplugging my headphones. Please help me I am frustrated

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

Macbook only works with charger plugged in

Not been on my macbook for a week however I realised I left it on sleep for the week... When I have gone to put it on charge it won't charge up and only stays on if the adapter is plugged in?! I really need to get this sorted as I use it a lot for work and on the go

Have you tried resetting the System Management Controller? That is a good first step for power related issues such as this.
What is the status of your battery? Look in the System Profiler (Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info) under Power. If it says the battery needs replacing, you should do so.

Volume control doesn't work with headphones plugged in

When I connect headphones the volume control doesn't work correctly. It should play only through the headphones, but it doesn't. In fact the volume control will bounce back and forth between operating correctly and not working correctly ... And will eventually stop the music. Frustrating!

´Till the moment it is, i just recently received a notification with a software update, but i tried with another 3gs with the same characteristics and it worked.

How do I get MIDI to work with individual plug-ins?

I'm using Logic Studio/Pro 8.02. I have Guitar Rig 4 loaded as an AUi, mono audio input, stereo output & MIDI on Channel 16. I'm using a Behringer FCB1010 as my MIDI controller. I can't seem to figure out how to (of if I can) get the FCB to control the MIDI of Guitar Rig. I have to admit, I'm a bit confused as to how the MIDI controllers & such work in Logic. I don't really see any way to set them up.
I'm basically trying to get the stomp boxes in Guitar Rig to work. I've got it working fine as a standalone & in other DAW (Reaper), but I can't get it to work in Logic Pro. WILL IT??? Any help would be most appreciated. THANKS!

Maybe my question wasn't clear. I know GR4 params, I set them up myself. It is working as a standalone & in other apps, but just not in Logic. I just can't get Logic to let the MIDI data go to GR4. It seems that Logic also has some preset controllers too. For example, CC31 is set to grab reverb & CC32 gets Delay. I have no idea where they're set, but I'm using them for my GR4 setup & Logic keeps grabbing them.
Does anyone know where the 'default' CC settings are set in Logic? I can't find them. Thanks for any help I can get.

Working with Melodyne plug in

I have noticed some glitches in my bounced mixes on vocals that have an active instance of melodyne plug in. Mixing in real time everythings ok but after an offline bounce, there are occasional extra vocal fragments which were not audible in the real time mix. Has anyone experienced this problem and does anyone have a workflow to prevent it ? I have melodyne version 1.0.3.1

Have you moved the host track (the one in which there's the melodyne instance) around at all? That can cause weird fragments to appear. See pg 20 of the melodyne manual.
