Working with layers from InDesign to Acrobat

Hi, I'm currently creating a fairly large pdf document for a client which has pop-up effect windows in Acrobat. The artwork is created in InDesign and the file is exported as an interactive pdf with layers. In Acrobat I then make these 'pop-ups' visible then invisible when hovered over/moved away from respectively. I was at the finished stage, all interactive elements that couldn't be set in InDesign had been meticulously added in Acrobat. Twice now, however, my client has made a small change to one of the pages that has several of these layer effects on it and each time I replace the page in Acrobat I have to re-do all the interactive parts. My question is: Is there a way you can replace a page in Acrobat and retain the layer interactivity that existed on the original, outgoing page? It seems impossible as whether I delete the page first and insert the new one in its place, or alternatively do a straightforward 'replace', the outgoing page's layers are deleted with the page and the incoming page's layers come in - but with none of the interactivity. I have to set it all up again. Bear in mind these are interactive events that can only be set up in Acrobat, not in InDesign, and I suspect that's where the problem lies. The new completely wipes out the old. Does anyone have any advice on a work-around for this - or should I just go and open the wine early, take a deep breath and re-do all the interactivity for the third time? If you need the black text to wind up on a separate printing plate from the black in the 4-color images, you will need to create a spot black, and set all your text (and table rules that will change) into that spot black.
I use this method to keep the pricing in my catalog separate, so I can print one version with prices, and one without.

is there a way to save the black separation or all of the black type only to a layer of its own. It would need to contain all of the black type and tables etc..? Leaving all of the 4c graphics on the base layer.
This a large document with hundred of pages and only black type changes are needed between the layers for versioning.

If I have a *.indb document created in CS6, populated with InDesign documents from CS6, what to do, if I want to migrate my workflow to the latest version of InDesign CC-2014?
Short answer (avoiding trouble and headaches):
1. Convert all your InDesign documents from CS6 to CC-2014 (*)
2. Use NEW document file names for all your CC-2014 InDesign file types: *indd, *indt, *indl
3. Build your *indb documents for CC-2014 anew.
4. Use NEW document file names for CC-2014 InDesign file type: *indb
But isn't that a tedious task to do?

Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files? I have a Indesign document with serveral layers and I need them as separate png files.
I know that is is possible with Illustrator but can't find it for Indesign.

It is OSX only and exports PDFs for creating Photoshop layers. The exported PDFs get trashed so if you can use AppleScript I can edit out the Photoshop part post a version that only saves the PDFs

Work with data from a table of another SAP R/3 system

Hi,
I want to work with data from a table of another system. I know there's a function called 'RFC_READ_TABLE' but I don't know really how it works. What I want to do is to get data from that system and pass it to the one where I'm working in order I can continue working with this data in the report.
Besides, I'd like to select only the records that have some conditions.
I'd appreciate if someone could tell how to do it, whether with FM 'RFC_READ_TABLE' or in another way.

Yes, you can use RFC_read_table .You can pass the number of columns but I recommend you to bring all results in your internal table after that you can filter the records. Most of the time I have notice when you make RFC call with this FM to another system it works but it may also happen that other system controlling authorization and then it might give you nothing. As I face this problem on my last Project.

What is the best way to work on photographs, editing them, and preparing for print if I can't save layers as .jpg or non-layered .tiffs? The photo lab I will be using does not allow layered .tiff. I have seen many videos that show how to let's say enhance eyes using layers, but in this video it says that .jpg cannot be used. I am new to photography and PSE an would like to know if there is an alternative way to edit an image that can be saved as .jpg. Thank you!

Working with layers with centered page

Is it possible to work with layers (Draw Layer) when you want
your site to
be centered. So far I´ve worked with centered (middle)
Layout Table, but
then I have to work with Laoyt Cells - i.e. I cannot use
layers.

Of course you can use layers with tables. Just work in
Standard mode, not
layout mode to do that. And please take the time to learn
about layers
before you use them -

Not sure what plugins you mean, Hornet - Lr doesn't rely on plugins to read new cameras.
If you mean the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plugin - that's for Photoshop, not Lightroom. Lr has the same functionality as ACR, but it's hard-coded into the program, so if you're looking for support for a new camera, you need to wait for a new version of Lr.
And nobody here can say when Lr support for a given camera will happen.
Hopefully someone with a Merrill will be able to chime in about whether its files work with the current Lr.

"transparent" bounding boxes appear when printing from InDesign and Acrobat

Hi. I have encountered a problem with both CS4 and CS5 InDesign and Acrobat 9.0. Mac OS 10.5.8. When I print (artwork flattened before I create PDF with standard "Press Quality" from InDesign or Adobe Illustrator default from Illustrator) lighter areas that are rectangular shaped will appear on the color print. We use a rip and this appears to happen randomly. I have spent considerable time troubleshooting this...I have used every work around I can think of—to no avail.
1. What is this?
2. Why is this happening?
3. Is there technical information out there to help me get rid of it?

Solid areas of lighter color. I am not sure if our rip can handle live transparency. It is a Fiery 8e Release 2. I tried a solution from a previous post that suggested de-selecting the Pantone match option when I print and that did work.
The PDF's are high res. It has even happened on some PDF's that were created through Distiller as high res. I have seen this at the print shop I work at and also at the college where I teach design.

Working with CorelDraw into Indesign

I am trying to work with a manual that i am converting into Indesign. This particular file has 6 pages that have tables or multiple layers, how do I convert this to Indesign? I am at a loss, any help would help. I tried using a pdf but it won't let me either. Thanks!

There is no way to bring a file from CorelDraw into InDesign as an editable entity. Your best bet is probably to either export to .eps and edit in Illustrator (or .ai if your version supports it directly), or to export the individual graphical elements and place those, then rebuild the text in ID.

Unable to create PDF/A with PDF from InDesign

Hello,
I'm trying to create PDF/A document from InDesign CS4 with Adobe Acrobat 9.
I create my PDF from InDesign (I create a tagged PDF).
For each document create from InDesign, I receive this message from the Preeflight "Convert to PDF/A (sRGB)" of Acrobat.
PDF document is not compliant with PDF/A-1a (2005)
- Structured PDF : Type entry in a structure element not "StructElem"
- Structured PDF : Type entry missing

let me clarify my question. Indesign doesn't export to PDF/A1a.
Acrobat has to convert a tagged PDF 1.5 document generated by indesign to PDF/A1a.
If anyone could explain the errors to me:
- Structured PDF : Type entry in a structure element not "StructElem"
- Structured PDF : Type entry missing
...this would also be greatly appreciated so i can narrow my search.
Since you guys are the PDF experts and Acrobat does the conversion i believe this forum is the place to find answers.

How can I get the iBook app on my Mac to backup ePubs I created with Pages on my iPad? Only seems to want to work with purchased books from the ibook store. The problem is, once I create a document in Pages and turn it into an ePub to be opened in iBooks, I delete the document in Pages, because I don't need two copies taking up space on my iPad. Before Maverick, iTunes would backup everything in my iBook app on my iPad. If something ever happened to my iPad, all of my created ePubs would be lost and I would be screwed. I suppose I could keep everything on Pages and go to iCloud and download my documents to my Mac, but that is a lot of steps. I may have to do that if there is no other way, but I am hoping someone will have the answer for me. Pretty disappointed in iBooks app for Mac at this point.

iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

Premiere Pro/Prelude CS6 not working with AVCHD from Canon HF G10

I just tried switching from Final Cut Pro 7/X to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and have not been able to get Premiere Pro or Prelude to work with AVCHD footage from my Canon HF G10. The system runs Mac OS X 10.7.4 on a 3.4 GHz quad-core iMac with 16GB of RAM and 10Gbit/s Thunderbolt RAID for video storage. Adobe Updater ran yesterday and installed CSXS infrastructure updates which did not fix the problems.
After importing several short (less than 5 minutes each) 1080p30 clips into Premiere Pro, I can scrub over the first few seconds of a clip but afterwards it stalls or mixes in frames from the beginning of the clip. Rendering 30 seconds of video does not complete in reasonable time, i.e. takes more than 5 minutes. I figured I would try ingest the footage with Prelude and am running into the same problems. Scrubbing does not work, only the first few seconds from a clip are available. When configuring Prelude to transcode on ingest, I am getting "Import XMP failed" errors. I already spent several hours trying to figure this out. In the meantime, I finished the project using Final Cut Pro X :-\

Any chance this gets fixed soon? I'm shooting with an AF-100, and at this point I'm still using Final Cut to transcode my footage so I can have audio. I've also noticed the video jumps around even when it does have audio. Prelude has been extremely problematic for me, and it doesn't have a way to bring in clips that returned errors upon importing, I have to write down the clip numbers and bring them in individually. I've also tried just dropping the file structure from the card straight to the hard drive. It's a huge problem, and is keeping me from making the switch fully from FCP 7.
