Working with many photos

I have over one thousand photos that I took on a recent trip. I have most of them already posted at my web site (www.mcran.com). If you click on the Photos link, Poland 2006 you will see how I added the photos. There are 90 per page. I had to manually create eight photo pages to accomadate all the pictures, as well as create links to the other pages.
Is there an easier way to do this? It would be nice if I could just add all the photos to a page and have iweb automatically create the additional pages needed. I look forward to your suggestions in making this process easier.

Thanks for the tip. My only concern is whether there is a limit to the size of a photo album. If I drag an entire photo album that contains over 1000 pictures, will they all be displayed in the photo page on my web site?

I have an iphone5s.  I received a text message with many photos attached.  when I select that message to open, there is a 2-3 second delay before it will open.  Once it does open, it will remain open for 3-4 seconds and the messaging app closes.  All other messaging features work fine.  It's just this one message with all of the pictures attached.

My Safari is no longer working with many sites.  However Chrome and Firefox work fine.  I would like to re-install Safari in an effort to clear up the problem I can not resolve.

    1. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    2. Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
    and confirm. Test.
    3. If the above steps don't resolve the problem, please describe it in more detail.

  • Lightroom 5: All photos now "Error working with this photo"

I went back to my lightroom catelog, where a lot of my photos are all on my NAS, and now all the photos are unable to be edited. "There was an error working with this photo."
Everything was working for awhile, but now every single photo is erroring out.
In the finder, i still see the photos perfectly fine. I even opened up the good 'ol Photo Mechanic 5 and opened a contact sheet, and these photos still worked. So it's not like they're corrupted or completely gone.
I created another new lightroom catelog, and tried to import the photos again. But when I select the directory the photos are in, it's empty for about 10 minutes, then shows all the photos but with "Preview unavailable for this file."
The big caveat are all these photos are on a networked NAS (Synology). I'm accessing it over WiFi which is probably the biggest problem.
The folder was mounted as a NFS folder. It was disconnected once when I had a power outage (damn wind). I since re-mounted the folder and all that. I'm not entirely sure if that's what did it or if these errors started happening after that or not. But I've moved photos to my NAS folder in my catalog just today, and they are now erroring as well. So it's not like the older ones are erroring. Just all of them are.

    Files are all: DNG/ARW/NEF

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but there are lots of messages in the forums about Lightroom problems specifically related to Synology NAS.
Have you spoken to Synology about this?

  • Firefox will not connect or open. Mac OS 10.6.8. I was working with many open tabs when Firefox stopped working. Now it won't connect. I have uninstalled and downloaded it several times.

I was working with many open tabs and firefox crashed. Now it won't connect to the internet at all.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

2nd generation ipod touch is pretty much no good anymore?  It is not able to upgrade to iOS5.1 and so will not work with many Apps in the iTunes store?  Is there a way to find out if the App will work before you download?

Look to the app developer to provide that information when browsing the iTunes Store.
The iPod Touch still works, so what's your problem with it? It still works with older apps, it still does what it's intended to do.
If you aren't happy then sell it and buy a new one.

I don't know the answer, personally, because I don't use Lightroom. This is the Camera Raw forum.
Someone here might answer your question, as there are a lot of clever people here, but, if not, you might try here:

  • "there was an error working with this photo"

I am new to the forums.
I have been using a Windows Vista computer with I believe an older version of LR.  I thinkg it is 4.??
When i would plug in my memory i would use LR to import my pictures and import them to an external hard drive connected to my WiFi router.
I never had a problem with it.
I recently made the move to Apple and got an iMac.  I downloaded and installed LR on my iMac and then imported the photos with no problem.
Now when i try and view the phots they are coming up grainy and getting an error:
" there was an error working with this photo"
I then look down at the thumbnails view and all of them are showing ! in the upper right corner.  So i click on it and get another error:
"Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo.  You will not be able to make adjustments to this photo"
When I look at the import section i get "preview unavaible for this file"
I would say i am a newbie to LR and i really only used it to import and manage my photos.  I have no idea where to begin troubleshooting.
Any and all help would be greatly apprecaited.
    Thanks

Yes. When I am watching, it seems to complete the autowrite in a few seconds after making a change.

    Hi,
The movie is probably MPEG format.
QuickTime Pro and iMovie cannot transcode audio contained in MPEG movies.
Try to convert with SimpleMovieX or MPEG Streamclip instead.

  • All of my photos now have the same photo when I look at them in the viewing area.  I have to actually open the photo itself to see the actual photo.  this makes it impossible to work with the photos in iphoto.  Help!

All of my photos now have the same photo when I look at them in the viewing area. It makes it look as though all of my photos are the exact same! I have to actually open the photo itself to see the actual photo.  this makes it impossible to work with the photos in iphoto.  How can I return it so that I see the photo itself in the preview area? Thank you!

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. This can take three or four goes.

  • IPhoto '11 (version 9.4) Is Not Working With "My Photo Stream"

    OS X 10.8.2
    iPhoto '11 version 9.4 (701.64)
iOS 6 on iPhone 4 and third generation 64 GB WiFi iPad
All iCloud services I require are enabled on all three devices - most important for this issue being Photo Stream on my MBP (and, of course, my iPhone and iPad).
So, I am out of ideas and things to try here. I just want the photos in "My Photo Stream" to show up in the latest and greatest version of iPhoto. So far I have:
Disabled and re-enabled Photo Stream via iCloud preferences panel and in iPhoto itself using every possible combination of disable and enable between the two and ordering those disables and enables in every possible way with many MBP restarts.
Reset Photo Stream via iCloud.com followed by the futility of repeating Step 1.
Logged out of iCloud on my MBP, restarted, signed back into iCloud, restarted, launched iPhoto. Repeated Steps 1 and 2.
Performed every repair and rebuild option for my iPhoto library's permissions, thumbnails and database. Repeated Steps 1 and 2.
Went so far as to download and apply the 9.4 update manually hoping that maybe a reinstall of the update would correct something that might have gone wrong during some Software Update process when 9.4 was first made available. Repeated Steps 1, 2 and 4.
In the end, when I launch iPhoto and go to Photo Stream and open "My Photo Stream", sometimes I see it downloading a given number of photos and then it ends up saying "No photos". So what was downloaded? Where did those photos go? Sometimes when I launch iPhoto and go to "My Photo Stream" nothing happens at all and it just says "No Photos". And another strange thing is that "My Photo Stream" in iPhoto on my MBP indicates that it was updated March 5, 2012 and I can think of nothing special that happened on that date. I don't get it.
Why does my Photo Stream work perfrectly between my iPhone and iPad? What is the problem with iPhoto on my MBP? Am I the only one dealing with this specific issue?
I did not buy iPhoto from the App Store. I bought it outside of the App Store and have kept it updated. Is that a problem? If so, why? I do not see what reason Apple would have to make me pay for the same product twice.
I have not tried creating a shared stream yet. I see no reason to try that if I cannot get my own photo stream to work in iPhoto on my MBP.
Is there anything I am missing here. I have read the Photo Stream FAQ and myriad other support documents and community threads. I am a pretty savvy Apple guy with years of experience behind me and pretty much know what I am doing. But, I am human and maybe I'm missing somehting here. So, any help would most certainly be appreciated.

I guess I will wrap this up. I have abandoned iPhoto and viewing my Photo Streams using it and moved to Adobe products (Bridge + PS). So that's that.

  • Does ipod nano work with ipod photo dock, s-video out?

Does the ipod nano work with the ipod photo dock, with an s-video out? Will apple make one for the nano specifically?

The iPod nano cannot show photos on an external device, I suspect Apple have not built this feature into the hardware. The options for showing to a TV are not in the photo menus either.

  • Universal Dock's remote doesn't work with iPhone Photos

Has anyone tried Universal Dock's remote with iPhone Photos? I can't get it to work.
The remote does work with iPhone music and video though.

i just bought this dock as a car dock. I have it hooked up to power 12v and output to 1/8 into head unit. Now, I have to be in iTunes music to get it to work and it only allows volume, playing of files in a playlist and to next song. Are any of you guys having issues with VERY limited use of the remote and lack of really a benefit from using a remote because you have to touch it anyways to change through songs or video??? Are you guys wondering why you even bought it if the remote is not supported as a functional addition?

  • Does iPhoto 9.6 work with iCloud Photo Library at all?

I have iOs 8.1, but I have not enabled iCloud Drive or iCloud Photo Library yet, and I have not updated to Yosemite yet. I don't want to activate those until I know how photos between thee mac and iPhone will work after they are enabled.
Does iPhoto 9.6 interact at all with iCloud Photo Library? Does it even "see" iCPL photos similar to PhotoStream? Can it import from there? Do any of the crops and edits come through in iPhoto from the iOS photos app (whether imported from the iCPL or even via direct d/l from the phone via usb?

So what are you guys doing to manage your photos until the OSX Photos app come out? Just not using iCloud Photo Library at all I assume?
Can you use iCloud photo library but still manually import photos into iPhoto from USB import?
You can view your iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and download from iCloud Photo Library (Beta) at https://beta.icloud.com  or https://www.icloud.com  on your Mac, if you click the "Photos" icon. Click the "?" mark, to view the help for "Photos". But you cannot yet upload directly from your Mac to this library, even if the iCloud Photos Help is saying otherwise.
You can download to your mac from your devices using USB, but with iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled on your iPad or iPhone, you can no longer sync photos to them using iTunes Photo sync. So it is hard to get any photos onto your devices at the moment, other than using Photo Stream. To upload  photos to your iPad/iPhone using iTunes you have to disable iCloud Photo Library. And the synced photos will be erased, when you enable iCloud Photo Library again.
