Working with multiple audio tracks

Hello,
I'm working with video clips that have a stereo audio track (guide audio fed into the camera) synch'ed to 4 mono tracks (recorded from a variety of boom mics and lavaliers).
Although I've linked all the audio clips to the video, it still gets a bit cumbersome when performing T or L cuts. When I hold down the Option key, I still have to adjust each of the audio track separately.
Is there a more efficient way to deal with multiple audio tracks? Maybe some way to treat these audio tracks as one unit?
BTW I'm working in FCP 7.
Thanks,
Thien

One way:
Lock the video track.
Use the Edit Selection Tool to Select the audio transition points
This will automatically open the Trim window, where you can move the cut point - in this case I am moving the audio cut(s) 30 frames later than the video cut:
which gives me the displacement of all the tracks that I wanted:
You can use this quite quickly once you get used to it.

  • Edge Animate, Working with multiple audio tracks

I'm having trouble with one of my animations.
I have set up 8 animated symbols that will play when the user hovers over the symbol.
When the user clicks on a symbol it will play an audio mp3 files.
// insert code for mouse click here
// Sets a toggle to play or pause the audio track
var audio = sym.$("_1")[0];                            "_1" is the name of the audio file that is placed on the timeline.  The original MP3 file is named 1 but when it was dragged to the canvas it created a layer called "_1".
    if (audio.paused) {
      audio.play();
    } else {
      audio.pause();
But there are two problems, one more concerning than the other.
    The problems are below:
I can not figure out the code to stop the audio when the symbol is clicked again instead of it being paused.  I tried to change audio.pause to audio.stop.  That did not help.  I would like the audio to stop if clicked again and then play from the beginning if clicked one more time.
This is the one that I am most concerned about.  If the user clicks on one symbol, the audio for that symbol will start to play as intended.  But if the user clicks on a second symbol, the audio for that symbol will start to play in conjunction with the audio already playing from the previous symbol.  It would be nice if a user could click on one symbol it will start to play its audio but if they change their mind and click on another symbol, the playing audio will stop and the new clicked symbol will start to play its audio.
Anyone have any suggestions?  Or help to provide.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
One quick answer to your question, and another that I will follow up on when I get a few minutes.
Animate uses the HTML5 audio API to control audio elements, so you can only use methods and properties that are specified for audio elements in HTML5 browsers.
To "stop" audio, you need to pause it and then set its currentTime property to 0, like so:
    sym.$("your_audio_element")[0].pause();
    sym.$("your_audio_element")[0].currentTime = 0;
The next time you play this audio element, it will play back from the beginning.
The other part of your question (stopping other playing audio when another symbol audio starts playing) can be done by getting all instances of the audio tag in jQuery and then pausing all audio. I don't have the exact syntax for that at hand as I reply, but I'll respond back with it soon.

  • Work with multiple Audio tracks; multiple selection

    Hi there,
For my current project I do have a lot of Audio material - mostly four channels.
I would like to have those four channels on four tracks in Premiere Pro CC 2014.
Tough, when I mark all the audio material with cmnd + A and then drag & drop it
in my time, everything lands on one track...
    So…
    1) is there a possibility, that when I drag & drop it that it automatically spreads to 4 tracks?
    2) If 1) is not possible; how can search for a specific group of audio files to speed up the workflow?
             --> at the moment the files are named Scene_Shot_Take_3.WAV /…_4.WAV / …_5.WAV / …_6.WAV
though when I type in the finder "_3" it doesn't make a selection for just the "_3" files but basically everything
with the number 3 in the metadate…
Thanks very much for the tips and help. It is appreciated.
    Cheers

Are you getting one track with four waveforms on it? You could try in the project panel- right click-modify-audio channels and set as below.

  • Export to Quicktime with multiple Audio Tracks?

    Hi all --
I am on a tight deadline (48 hrs!) to deliver a Quicktime Prores file with 6 audio tracks: ch 1+2 dialog, ch 2+3 music&effects, ch 4+5 stereo mix. I'm working with FCP 6.
Now, I have figured out how to export the FCP 6 project to a Quicktime file with multiple audio tracks (in the Project settings, I specify 3 stereo channels, then I assign each audio track to one of the channels and export everything to a Quicktime file).
However, how can I send a stereo mix to channels 4+5?? FCP only allows me to assign each audio track one but not multiple output channels, and I didn't see a way where I could create a bus.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Something is being miscounted here. You say you have dialog on 1+2 and then say you have M&E on 2+3? I think you meant to say 3+4 and the stereo mix will be on 5+6. The easiest way to do this is to copy tracks 1-4 to tracks 5-8 by shift-option-dragging them there. Holding option will copy the tracks instead of moving them and holding shift will insure that the tracks will not move earlier or later. Then send 5+6 (dialog) to the 5+6 output (using the info in the above referenced discussion) and send 7+8 (music&effects) also to the 5+6 output. Done.

  • Video with Multiple Audio Tracks-- IOS 4.2 Removes Way to Select Them

After upgrading to IOS 4.2 on my iPhone 4, I've found it no longer lets me select from among multiple audio tracks. The option and button is completely gone.
I encode my videos with AC3 audio as the first track (for my home media devices), and stereo audio as the second track (for the iPhone). Now the iPhone will just play the video, with no audio, and no way to select another track. This is extremely frustrating as I've encoded all my DVDs this way, and never had any issue with playback like this on any IOS device going back to the first gen iPod Touch.
Anyone else have this issue, and know of a work around? Thanks!

I too have the exact same problem for the exact same reason. Did you ever figure out a workaround (other than reencoding all your videos)?

  • Issues with multiple audio tracks

Hello everyone. I need some help with my DVD Reel. … Please
I have a DVDSP project that I’ve been using and updating for the last year. It contains over 100 small 4-minute clips (Mpeg-2 Video + AC3 Audio) plus a lot of menus and buttons….
Everything worked nice and perfect… except that I added some surround clips last week (using stories)… so now I have one audio track (A1) with all stereo audio and a second audio track (A2) with my surround audio. Again, no problems until today when I used the same track to add a new clip with stereo audio only (A1)…. And it doesn’t want to playback on DVD Player (but it plays in the simulator)…
…. Now here is the question. Does the additional (surround) audio track have anything to do with this problem or is there any other reason why the stereo clip didn’t want to play after the surround clip? … or Do I need to create stories for my stereo clips from now on?
Some more information: I’m using Final Cut Pro and Compressor to crate my media… Intel Mac OS X… DVD Studio Pro Version 4.1.2.
    Thanks for your help

Got an almost kind of (but not really) similar problem. I have videos with multiple audio (AAC and AC3 passthru) in an m4v file. the AAC is always defaulted with the "enable" tick in the properties box. I've tried almost everything I can think of to enable the AC3 track by default so that frontrow or QT will play it. but everytime I save (even save-as) it defaults back to the AAC stereo.
Any ideas? is this a "feature" of 7.5.5?

  • Creating Video with Multiple Audio Tracks?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question but I figured its compression/video codec related so someone might have an idea...
I've used Handbrake in the past to rip a DVD with an audio commentary that allowed for multiple audio tracks that could be played back in iTunes/Quicktime (though not on the iPod Classic for some reason... perhaps someone knows the answer to this?)
I was just curious as to whether or not this was possible to do WITHOUT first making a DVD with an 2ndary track? I was hoping to record audio commentary for one of my shorts, and put it up on the web, but wanted to avoid the step of going to dvd first then ripping it.
is this achievable in compressor? do I need to use a third party app? thanks so much.

    ehmjay wrote:
is there any app (be it from apple or a 3rd party tool) that will allow me to add a secondary audio track for switching in quicktime/iTunes? if so could you point me in the direction of it (or even instructions)
I'm afraid I'm unaware of anything - outside of HandBrake - that does encode a second track of audio. But I haven't exactly had my eyes open since I haven't needed to do this for a client yet.
handbrake mentinos that its able to rip secondary audio for use with iPod Classic/Apple TV... however so far it hasn't worked for me. Does this mean that while handbrake is doing it properly its just my iPod itself that's having the troubles (like I said that alt. audio is there in iTunes/Quicktime just not on the iPod itself)
I am pretty sure that the issue is that the software for iPod Classics - as is the case with AppleTV and, even, QT Player - which won't allow you to switch over to the other track. But I haven't had to work with the Classic in a while, perhaps there is a setting in Audio (or Video) that gives you the pop-up option you're seeking?

  • No audio on files with multiple audio tracks

All my files that have multiple audio tracks (e.g. stereo and surround) no longer have audio when I initially start up my Apple TV 2. When I manually change the audio track in the menu (from stereo to surround or vice versa), I get the sound back but I would have to do this with every single file and do this each time I start up my Apple TV. Anyone else notice this problem. This only started happening after the most recent update.

  • Can you export a Quicktime with multiple audio tracks?

I have a video with split audio tracks.
I'd like to archive a copy that retains all the individual tracks so that other people could just open the file later and not have to reconstruct the tracks (i could certainly archive all the tracks individually).
the problem i'm having is that FCP seems to only want to allow me to export 2 tracks of audio. I may be missing a setting, but i'm not sure.
I can digitize a clip from a digibeta with 4+ tracks, and when i open the clip in QT, it recognizes the individual tracks, so it seems as if the capabilities are there.
have they just not been integrated yet?

  • .ts-files with multiple audio tracks / Premiere Elements 12

    Hello forum,
once more I need a little help please.
I've created successfully a few DVD's, and by now I'm a master in creating my own menue templates , but now I have again some problems.
I imported a .ts file which I recorded on my Sat Receiver. This file contains a video track and 2 audio tracks:
    1. German 6-channel AC3,
    2. English 2-channel AC3 (I can add a screenshot of the file info's if needed).
Now my problem is that I only hear some kind of background sound, music and so on, no voices. So not really one of the tracks I mentioned above.
The file works good when I play them with VLC player, and I'm able to chose the 2 languages there.
What I don't really understand is, I created several DVD's with exactly the same file type, I mean the file info's are identical except the lenght differs for a few minutes.
Is there a way to chose the audio track in Premiere Elements like I can chose it in VLC player? Or is there another way to bring the voices in there?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jessie
My system is a Macbook Pro, 16 GB RAM, 2.5 Ghz, Premiere Elements 12

    Hi ATR,
yes, that's what I meant. It worked without problems with a lot of files in different projects. I made a few screenshots, maybe they help to get it fixed.
This is the file that worked fine:
And this is the one that doesn't work:
By now I haven't changed anything in the settings as I don't know what I could change.
The files that worked came out with the german soundtrack, so I assume 5.1 channel.
I'm really out of ideas now :/

  • Working with multiple video tracks

When I have 2 video clips on different tracks at the same time, there is a red line above the track and, if I try to play the movie, the word "rendering" is shown during this section.
I have a long clip on track one and want to add a small cutaway shot on track 2, while keeping the audio of track 1 going.
Since I need to adjust the video in/out/placement in track 2 so it works with the track 1 audio, I can't keep re-rendering at every tweak. There must be a faster method.

All the video was shot in 1440x1080, at the exact same camera settings (Canon Vixia HF100, LP mode). However, the sequence is 1920x1080 (which was the setting of a previous project).
If I try to change the sequence settings to 1440x1080, the image gets stretched. Any suggestion?

  • Exporting a project with multiple audio tracks changes the loudness level regardless of export format

I recently had to submit a TVC and discovered that premiere was changing the loudness level after export, when the TVC failed the quality check.
I checked the audio loudness of other formats that I had exported and the same thing had happened the audio loudness, it had changed.
After a bit of troubleshooting I found a workaround. I mixdown all of the tracks in adobe audtion to one track and then imported it into premeire.
Once I did this the audio loudness was not changed after exporting.
Workflow for when it didn't work.
I used edit in adobe audtion for the audio tracks from premiere.
Matched the audio to the loudness level I wanted, and then saved each track.
    Export from premiere.
    To Check Audio Loudness
Bring in exported file into new premiere project
Edit the audio in adobe audtion.
Drag the audio file into match audio to check loudness level.
    I am using
    Adobe Premiere Pro CC v8.1
    Windows 7 on PC
    Please fix this adobe.

What did your Broadcast Quality Control pick up on?
Audio Levels and Loudness are two different things in this regard.

  • Exporting QT file with multiple audio tracks

I'm trying to create a digibeta tape of my movie. The company who does it wanted a QuickTime file with the movie where there were 2 audio tracks (4 in sterio). One with the music and sound effects and another with narration and interviews. I'm not sure if this is possible or where to set the option for this. Can anyone help?

Command+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, go to the Audio Outputs tab and change the Outputs to 4 whilst keeping the Grouping as Stereo.
Back on the timeline, ensure your audio media is on the correct audio track for export, eg, all music on 7&8 , 9&10, VO on 5 and/or 6 , etc etc. Basically, keeping an organised timeline without spreading audio over random tracks really helps.
Ensure the audio tracks are assigned to the correct channels. To do this, on the timeline you see the 'destination buttons' A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 etc etc... next to each button is a padlock, then you have the Toggle Auto Select icon. Control-click on this icon and you'll see the Audio Outputs setting, which shows which stereo pair that particular track is assigned to. In this case, you'll want to assign Music and Effects to 3&4, whilst keeping narration and interviews on 1&2.
    Export Quicktime Movie.

  • Multicam clips with multiple audio tracks

    Hi,
If I wanted to use a multicam clip to cut between the video, but instead of a single audio track I wanted two audio tracks to be audible all the way through (say from 2 mics) with the ability to mix them, how could I accomplish this? Would I need to handle the audio seperately in the timeline and sync manually?
    Thanks

Thanks - the podcasts were very helpful, but I am still not sure about my specific question.
With a multiclip, you can cut audio only, but within an angle I can only have one clip right? Perhaps I need to first make a synchronized clip with all the audio that I want to mix for the whole multiclip, and add that compound clip to an angle. I then keep the audio on that angle all the way through, cut video only between whatever angles I want, but then open the compound clip containing the audio to do the mixing.
Is there a way to have two clips in one angle (one on top of the other)?
If anyone has a good workflow for what I want to achieve, please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Importing .ts or .mp4 with multiple audio tracks.

So like I posted over in the after effects forum I have a file that has 3 audio tracks and 1 video tracks.
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6fpUcYWvpN1YjlsdVVzYTNCZzA/edit?usp=sharing
Now I asked a teacher in multimedia graphics and he told me that I could pull it into Premiere and do something that would allow me to see it or in audition. So I'm just rying to figure out what would be the quickest way to access this and seperate the tracks or at least see them.

    Hi SN Synthetic Wolf,
Yes, this seems to be a common problem amongst those capturing game play with narration. Unfortunately, these screen capture programs have audio where only the first stream is detected by Premiere Pro. I also found this tutorial, which basically explains the same process, but with VirtualDub: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJW1BxtgoyI&noredirect=1
You might want to file a feature request for detecting other audio streams coming from screen capture software: http://adobe.ly/feature_request. Thanks for reporting back.
