Working with pal format

I've got to work with a footage in PAL format. I first set it up to PAL DV. I've captured images, but couldn't not batch them... It does not work properly. Does anybody know what should I do to fix that? The error msg is 'General Error' that's all... Thanks!

Olá Enriqueta!
Hum ... let me see!
You´re using a PAL tape in PAL player (or compatible), your sequence preset is DV/PAL, and you´ve already logged your material.
Can you control your machine or you´ve just inputed your timecodes?
Have you changed the pre-roll and post-roll fo your machine (?) in those menus you can choose the machine you´re using?
You´re capturing your material via firewire?
The "easy-setup" doesn´t work with you (?) i´ve done NTSC work and it was very simple!
Do you have an external monitor so you can try change the external view of your material (?) this way you can see if FCP accept your input signal.
If you´re using firewire try change port i had and hub and from time to time it was impossible to capture that way (don´t ask me way!)
The error you said ... is at the begining of capture (?) / when open the capture window (?) / when you try to capture?
Try restart your mac with the machine on (camera) then open FCP!
... ok ... i´ll stop ... for now ...

  • BEWARE - 7toX DOES NOT yet WORK with PAL (50HZ)

Sorry Phillip - I think it's shambolic and amateurish that a week on down the line, you still have not stated on your website, and Apple have not stated on the App Store that this thing (by your own admission) DOES NOT WORK WITH PAL.
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/7toX/about.html#before_exportin g
Absolutely no mention of it in the 'Known Issues' section, so presumably you're not 'extremely sorry and somewhat embarrased' quite enough to actually warn people that they shouldn't buy it until the patch appears on the App Store.
If you were in the UK, you could be prosecuted under Consumer Law.

Patrick, I'm not complaining about the bug itself, I'm complaining about the catalogue of mis-information and/or non-information.
Yes, I defended Apple over the utter shambles that is FCP X - a sensational application released at least six months too early.
In my original thread, I said that I blamed Apple as much as Intelligent Assistance for this - does nobody at Apple actually test software before they display it on their website?
To be honest, I'm up to here with Apple - and if todays fresh install of Lion doesn't bear more fruit than the one I did two weeks ago, I'm seriiously thinking (for the first time in ten years) of buying a PC (although the thought fills me with dread).
I applaud Philip and his colleagues for doing what they're trying to do, but I wish they - and Apple - had done the whole thing more professionally.
That's all I'm going to say on the matter, now I'll keep quiet and hope to goodness they get 7toX working soon because if it takes too long, I could well be struggling with a PC instead of a Mac.

  • Advise about work with differents formats in fcp

If you´ve got media shooted in hdv and pal:¿Wich is the best way to work with it?.I mean the suitable sequence settings to work with both formats in a project.
    Thanks.

Juanelo, please clarify your question... PAL is a television standard or system, while HDV is a shooting format.
Are you editing PAL based HDV for PAL delivery, or do you have PAL HDV footage mixing with NTSC HDV footage...and if so, where is the delivery system...PAL, NTSC or SECAM.

can i work with RAW format photos?

    Hi,
At the moment you can't - you can vote and follow this Idea (http://forums.adobe.com/ideas/1227) in order to get updated if and when it will be supported.

  • Does apple tv work with PAL

I'm moving from the US to India, will Apple TV and the movies I purchased on the apple site work with a PAL TV?

I assume you have a black ATV?
So long as the TV in India has HDMI and can do 50 or 60 Hz 720p or 1080p (for ATV3) it should be fine.
PAL/NTSC are pretty irrelevant when it comes to devices like AppleTV.

  • Working with various formats within project

    Good Afternoon,
I am about to embark on creating a 2-3 minute splash reel for our company, to include tons of clips from work we've done in the last year. Owners of content submitted the work in a variety of formats with an unfortunate emphasis on WMV's. Frame sizes and frame rates are all over the place.
What is the best way to start in? Do I conform everything to the same specs, or at least convert the WMV's to QT? Or do I just deal with heavy amounts of rendering working with the non-uniform clips in the time line?
    I really appreciate any advice.

I'm sure Flip4Mac's big brother Episode would do everything you want, and more, but it's a few more dollars as well. However, F4M should work fine, too. As far as the size, that might take an experiment, but I would think you can leave them at their current size spec, then process.

  • Final Cut Exp - Working with HDV format & exporting for web in 16:9 format

I'm working with SONY HVR-A1U prosumer camcorder which captures footage in 1440x1080resolution. My goal is to produce movies fro web in 16:9 size and upload them on "Brightcove" website
After editing this footage in Final Cut Express I'm trying now to export my movie using "File-Export-Using Quick Time Conversion" option ... and I ran into the big issue with video size settings and how the video gets squezed when uploaded on Brightcove website.
To get 16:9 size out of FCE, I need to:
Set the "custom" size 640x360 and set "preserve aspect ration" - use letter box
Then the resulting movie plays as 16:9 in Quicktime ... however after uploading it on Brightcove it chages the aspect again ... and becomes squashed.
I would appreciate any advice how to overcome this "squashing" of export when working with HDV footage.
    Thanks
    Peter

  • Working with *.asf format in OS X

I just received iConvert (sold through Brookstone) as a gift that will transfer my 8mm tapes into digital format.
It creates files in *.asf format
When I play file from the SD Card (the converter allows you to play to the TV) the playback is perfect.
However, when I the file play it on my MacBook using QuickTime Player, the sound is fine, but the image is a bit jumpy (almost Max Headroom-like).
Not completely unwatchable, but not smooth, either.
    (I updated Flip4Mac, to no avail...still jumpy)
I opened the file in Windows with Windows Media Player and it played smoothly.
I've never used iMovie (I just started converting the tapes today) and noticed that iMovie can't open up *.asf files.
Is *.asf primarily a Windows format? Is there a file format that works better in OS X?
Is there an easy way to convert the *.asf to a more OS X friendly format, since I plan on using iMovie to edit the files?
    Thanks!

Your product is based on Windows OS and the .asf files are designed for Windows Media Player.
Microsoft discontinued Mac support for Windows Media Player in 2003.
http://flip4mac.com is third party software that "plays" most WMP formats via QuickTime Player. They also sell upgrades that allow conversion from WMP to QuickTime formats.
These upgrades are supported in iMovie version 6 but not for version 7 or 8 (iLife '08 and '09).
    So. What to do?
Purchase one of the Flip4Mac upgrades.
Copy the files from the SD card to your Mac and convert to QuickTime formats (DV Stream would work best).
Import the new .dv file into iMovie (any version).

  • Square Dropzones and working with landscape format photos

    Hi everyone,
Any suggestions on how to place a lanscape format picture into a square dropzone (in particular the book cover in the roadtrip theme). If I place the photo in the dropzone as-is the right side is significantlt cutoff, and I'm not having any luck finding a way to "pad" the picture somehow with black border on the top and bottom to make it square.
I'm going to try creating a separate movie with just this picturea and playing around with the Kens burn effect so I can least see the whole picture eventually.
Thanks in advance for your help
    -Raymond

As mentioned dragging the image around in its frame is your only option in iDVD.
If you have an image editor, it would be a snap to add black borders to the image.
A quick and effective workaround is to open the image in Preview, zoom out a little and expand the window so you get plenty of room above and below allowing for a square crop. Then set Preview's window background colour to black in the preferences and take a squarish screen snapshot using AppleShift4 - you need to eyeball a little.
You can then use the screen snapshot instead of the original pic to place in the drop zone.

  • Working with PAL in HD Timeline

    Hello all,
My current project involves footage from a variety (about 50) different cameras across the world. The end result is HD on Blu-Ray at 1440x1080i. A lot of the footage is HD, but a lot of SD stuff as well, in NTSC and PAL.
The PAL footage gives me headaches... I've used AME to encode it to NTSC, and it works fine in the timelines, unless I change the speed. I'll get super funky dancing images (back and forth) at speed changes slower than 80%.
Any ideas? Would a better conversion to NTSC help? If so, what's a good batch converter that can do it?
    Thanks a million,
    Jonathan

    dv2film.com
It does great PAL <--> NTSC conversions.  It's free.  It uses existing
open-source tools.  Read the dv2film.txt file for details on how to set
    up the standards conversion.

  • How to make Library Update work with XFL format

Hi, all. When you keep your Flash file as a fla, it remembers where bitmap and audio files were so that if you edit the original file you can easily pull in that update by selecting the library icon, right-clicking, and selecting "Update." However, when you use xfl, that gets broken. I think the theory is that you are supposed to be able to dig through the library folder and be able to update the file there. However, in the case of audio files, there's not actually anything in the library directory, so you can't really do that.
Is there a way that I'm missing to let you easily update bitmap and audio library assets with xfl? Is there a setting somewhere I should be setting that would enable my library assets to "remember" where they were imported from after the file is closed and reopened?  Note that I'm still on cs5.5 for the most part, because I feel like it's more stable than CS6 and definitely more stable than the CC versions, but I have also had this problem in CS6.

"However, in the case of audio files, there's not actually anything in the library directory, so you can't really do that."
I don`t remember how xfl was handled in older versions, but in CC the LIBRARY folder that you see inside your XFL File is an exact mirror of the LIBRARY Folder that can be found on your HD where the xfl file is located.
So any Sound that you imported in your xfl file will be copied to that specific folder. And updating that file will automatically update it in your LIBRARY, so there is actually no need anymore to "update" your assets via the context command.

  • Working with time format in Numbers

I am trying to subtract sunset time from sunrise time to determine length of daylight. When I imported data from an excel spreadsheet, the column I had the difference did not transfer correctly. I have tried unsuccessfully to subtract a sunset time, say for example 18:03 from a sunrise time, 6:18. Is there anyway to do that in Numbers?

As you are asking in the iWork '08 forum, I respond for Numbers '08.
    (a) all these kinds of things are explained in "What you wanted to know about time values"
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7958365
    (b) assuming that
    B2 contains 18:03
    C2 contains 06:18
in D2 type the simple formula: =TIME(0,0,(B-C)24*6060)
with Numbers '09 it would be even more simple: =B-C

  • Working with many different formats/codecs/frame rates within one Sequence.

    Good Afternoon,
As an editor for an ad agency I am being tasked with cutting a demo reel together. Nothing too difficult.
The reel is to include video footage of past projects, going back a couple years or so. The footage that I will be given will undoubtably be in a variety of formats, codecs, frame sizes, frame rates, etc (all SD, though). Delivery is SD DVD.
    My question is this:
What is the best way to set up my timeline for a barrage of clips with differing specs?
Do I encode all the media assets FIRST to conform to my Sequence Settings? Or do I just deal with the large amounts of timeline rendering as I work with different formats and codecs? Or do I....?
I am running FCP 5.1.4, so I don't have the Open Timeline feature going for me.
I appreciate any advice and tips you can offer!
    Thanks!

Your final format is NTSC SD DVD, so you're going to have to go to 720x480 at some point. This is what I would upscale to. Make sure your "client" knows that the 320x240 wmv's may not look to good in the final production.
Personally I use MPEG Streamclip (an excellent FREE application that's part of many a pro's arsenal) for this kind of conversion and/or upscaling. It's not particularly intuitive (especially for upscaling) so read the manual.
You may need to get hold of Flip4Mac or Episode for the wmv conversions.
I would tend to convert to a lossless codec like Apple Uncompressed or Animation. You could try going to NTSC-DV but you're going to lose some quality initially and again when you do the final mpeg2 compression.
    Experiment.
