Working with recorded Skype conversations

Hello all! I have recorded a conversation through a Skype call recorder, split it into two tracks using their converter, converted the tracks into MP3 files, and tried to import them as separate tracks into GarageBand 3. Although I could hear both sides of the recorded conversation when I played the files in iTunes, for some mysterious reason I can only hear my side of the call when I import those files into GarageBand. Help?

In the worst-case scenario your phone will still function with any Skype release that includes the API. So as long as you do not upgrade to newer releases without it, it will still function fine.

You can't test if a record is "atomically" NULL. You have two choices:
1- if one of the fields has a not null constraint then you can test using this field.
2- Otherwise, you can use an indicator out parameter that tells you if there is a value or nothing in the record.

Satellite A215-S7444 built-in webcam not working with MSN / Skype

Hi, I've just bought my laptop and right after installing the newest MSN and Skype, the video is not working with these programs. I tried to configure the video settings inside MSN and it told that "windows cannot connect to this webcam. It's in currently in use or not plugged in". The webcam is built-in, a Chicony USB 2.0.
Any hints ??

Hi there,
maybe you should download the webcam software for your machine from the toshiba driver download site and install it. The webcam works but the software sometimes behaves really weird so you just have to reinstall it. Maybe its an good idea to uninstall the old software before...

Brushes not working with new RAW conversion for Nikon D7000

I have always worked with RAW files w/A2 & A3.1.1 with my Nikon (D80) And now, just got Nikon's D7000 and of course, waited for the RAW conversion that just came out.
Apple addressed the Nikon D7000 RAW situation (which was fixed this month), but now when I use "brushes" on RAW pics, very little if any changes occur.
Very little affect occurs (if any) with A3.1.1 and the "new" RAW conversion for Nikon. I shot (at the same time) both RAW and JPEG (as cameras can) and put them side by side in A3. Pulled down Dodge / Burn / Skin Smoothing & Blur from brushes and they all did a great job. But on the RAW pic that was taken at the same time..... nada, nothing (maybe a minute change, but nothing to call home about).
Bottom line, the newest RAW capability that came out a couple of weeks ago, somehow messed up brushes? I don't think I am that smart or lucky to see this issue. Am I missing something here? If so, please set me straight.
I have tried the places one pulls down brushes but no affect on RAW. Using curves from bricks and luminance, etc, works just fine. Guess I am stuck with JPEG's until this is resolved by our A3 guys, or someone realigns me.

I am able to import them, but I cannot edit them as RAW files. They behave like .jpegs. So correcting exposure for example is a horrible experience. My 5D Mark II files behave as they did in Aperture, so it is the FZ1000 RAWs in particular that are problematic.

My inbuilt camera suddenly stopped working with insight, skype etc

When i use skype or insight now, i find that it says that camera is not present. I am unsure why it stopped working suddenly.

Recording phone conversation with imovie

Hello,
for the purpose of my course in linguistics I have to record convesations for conversation analysis.
At this moment I have found the counter parts agreeing to cooperate, and accepting to be recorded.
I have SKYPE which I find useful and I have Imovie.
BUT Imovie does not render a good sound for the other party. My voice is clear but no the interlocuteur's one.
Also Imovie sometimes records, sometimes does not and I only know that after listening which is very annoying, because some parts of conversations will not be able to be reproduced as I have to record live to get a natural speech.
Well MY 2 QUESTIONS ARE:
1) How can I make imovie more reliable and also how can I make the recording of both speakers equal on the recorded item?
2) if the above cannot be solved, does a software exist to record phone conversation on Mac?

No, you don't really want an iMic if you're using a Skype phone.
An iMic is for using a separate microphone to go INTO the Mac. But you don't need that: you're already using the microphone in your Skype phone.
Maybe you're using the Skype so that you get cheap phone calls, but if you used an ordinary loudspeaker phone connected to an ordinary phone line, then you wouldn't need to record on the Mac; you could simply use an ordinary microphone connected to an ordinary Mini-Disc recorder or cassette recorder.
I can't really give you any more detailed information, as I can't hear exactly what you're getting via your Skype phone, and I don't know what settings you've used on your Mac, or in the Audiocorder software.
All I can tell you is that Audiocorder - or possibly even GarageBand! - should work with your Skype phone ..if you get the volume settings right. If you don't need to use your Mac for the phone calls - via Skype - why not just forget about using the Mac to record things, and use a device which is meant for making simple recordings ..that's to say a cassette recorder, or Mini-Disc recorder, plus a microphone, plus a telephone with a loudspeaker in it, so that you can easily record both sides of the conversation?

Logitech C270 webcam not working with Skype

I'm using Skype 7.7 and it has all the updates that it needs as of right now. I've Windows 7 and my Logitech C270 Webcam won't work with my Skype and only shows the loading screen. Can you explain to me why it won't work even if I've reinstalled Skype multiple times and restarted my computer as well? Thank you very much.

Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool. Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post. Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

It seems that the latest Skype versions don't work with AMD Radeon R7 200 Series graphic card. Try to uninstall the currently installed version and install the 6.14.0.104 version using the download links provided here: http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/ASUS-USB2-0-Webcam-not-recognized-by-Skype-6-18... Recording Skype Calls on Windows 8?

Hey guys, I just updated to Skype 7.0 on my Windows 8 Pro PC. I just wanted to know how I can record Skype conversations for free. Is there a "built-in" feature to Windows 8 Pro I can use?

There is unfortunately not any built in feature/program to windows 8 that I am aware of.
I tend to use a program called Camtasia but there is one which I have not tried called Adobe Captivate 8 http://thankyou.adobe.com/en/au/products/CP/v4/1106_captivate.html?sdid=KHSMT&skwcid=AL!3085!3!45057...
Unfortunately most programs like these are costly and most come with a free trial

My iphone 4 microphone won't record sound on video clips and doesn't work with Skype

This is the first time I have used the forum. My iphone4 microphone won't record sound on video clips, and won't work with Skype.

I have checked that I have the latest software. I have restarted phone. I am not sure how to perform the other things you mentioned , restore and reset as new... Would I lose any data by doing these? Thanks for the reply.

How to record a Skype conversation

I tried recording a Skype conversation using iTunes. I got nothing. My microphone works fine; I can speak and record from there, but iTunes doesn't pick up the Skype conversation. Is there a setting I need to change so that iTunes records from Skype? Do I need a special program for that?

I said I was trying to record with iTunes. That isn't true. I was trying to record with QuickTime Player.

The Skype plugin http://www.ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder/ although more basic, works well too.

Built-in iSight will not work with Skype

I have a new Macbook Pro that I purchased about a month ago, running OS
X 10.5.8.
I've been using Skype to video chat, and at first everything was working
very well. In the middle of a chat, however, the video stopped working
altogether.
If I go to the video tab in Skype preferences, the camera will then turn
on and I can see myself, but once I go back to the call, the camera
won't turn on (the green light on my camera stays off too). In video
preferences I have the following options checked: Enable Skype Video,
Automatically receive video from: People in my Contact list, and Show
that I have video to: People in my contact list. I have also tried to
enable the "Start my video automatically" option but to no avail. The
video camera it is set to use is the Built-in iSight.
I have tried reinstalling skype, including deleting all the preference
files on the computer, but that did not help.
The video works fine in other applications such as Photobooth, iMovie and Google Chat. I have browsed through the many Skype forum posts about similar issues, as well as Apple forums and have tried every fix that people have suggested including resetting my SMC, updating all my applications, trying Skype under different user accounts, reinstalling Quicktime, reinstalling Skype (as outlined in the Uninstall guide for mac), repairing permissions, etc.
I am pretty sure that this problem began directly after I switched to
SCREEN SHARING during a video chat. When I switched back to Video, it
did not work.
No other applications that use my camera are running.
I am assuming that since it originally worked with Skype, and since I had not touched ANY of the options in Skype and have done nothing other than try screen sharing, and since I did a complete Skype reinstall includeing preferences, that the problem should NOT be with the Skype program itself, but rather something that was modified in the operating system configuration during screen sharing.
The only other thing I can think of trying is to reinstall iSight, although I haven't been able to figure out how to do that, or to reinstall my entire operating system, which I don't see as an acceptable solution.
I am using Skype Version 2.8.0.659
Any help getting this fixed would be greatly appreciated.

From my online reading in both the Apple and Skype forums, it seems as though this is a relatively common problem. If I can find a solution from either Skype or Apple, I will post the solution in both of the forums.
Update: I just upgraded my OS to 10.6.1 and my camera started working again. Then, I was in a chat and I lost my internet connection. As soon as I got back online I restarted the conversation and the camera doesn't work again. This is getting to be ridiculous.

It is years since I tried Skype. (Probably in Tiger)
I use Little Snitch, a utility that can report the ports and IPS any App is trying to contact.
For Video chats it seems the Skype process spreads the load across many "Servers" wanting to connect to about 3 doz (I got fed up with clicking the accept Button)
For this reason I do not think it is very secure.
I only today read a post that said Skype had Screen Sharing.
iChat 5 makes it clear (well if you run /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7 In Terminal) that there is a "camera" setting for the Desktop which may be a forthcoming thing or is about produce the Screen Sharing pic. (i.e iChat lists two "cameras" in the log produced by the above Terminal command).
iChat 4 and 5 use the Apple Remote Desktop engine to do Screen Share as does the Screen Sharing App invoked from the Finders Go Menu > Go to Server and using VNC:// as the Link type.
I would have no idea what protocol Skype are using.
They created their own Video protocols and similar with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for Connecting to POTS (Plain Old Telephone Systems) Phones in disregard for Internationally agreed Standards.
I doubt that it makes use of the ARD engine. It will probably be a reinvention of the wheel again.
I took a look around the Skype web site but could not find any mention of how they are doing Screen Sharing.
I would guess it is similar to the iUSBCam method of Desktop as Video Feed.
Do the Console or System Log in Console (Applications/Utilities) have any messages about this ?
