Workload manager
when i read on "expert one on one oracle " books, the author mentions "wlm"
What is WLM(workload manager)? Anyone explain shortly, i red this concept but i have confusion.

CSS11000, load balancing and OS/390 Workload Manager
Is it possible to use the OS/390 Workload Manager with the CSS11000? I have found articles for using a LocalDirector with it but nothing referencing a CSS11000.
Since I don't think the CSS11000 works with WLM is it possible to write a script on the CSS11000 so it can do a TN3270 session and verify the LPAR is up?
ThanksIf you know what TN3270 traffic looks like, you can indeed write script to do whatever you want.
The script language is easy to use

Event ID 5 - MSExchange Workload Management
Getting this error on Exchange 2013 CU2:
The description for Event ID 5 from source MSExchange Workload Management cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the
local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event:
MdbLatency(database_name)
8/14/2013 1:17:34 PM
00:00:15.0229848
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table
After researching the issue a bit, I found 2 similar registry settings that existed with almost the same name:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\MSExchange Workload Management
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\MSExchange WorkloadManagement
The first key has a reference to EventLogMessages.dll while the second key has references to Microsoft.Exchange.Data.WorkloadManagement.EventLogs.dll and Microsoft.Exchange.WorkloadManagement.EventLogs.dll. After following these paths, I see that one of
the files does not exist in the location specified, nor does it exist on the server at all. The file in question is: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.WorkloadManagement.EventLogs.dll
Question is, any idea why there's 2 similar key names in the registry, why the file might be missing or how to restore it? This was originally a clean RTM install, then CU1, then the 2nd release of CU2 was installed most recently. Several things broke in
between the upgrades, all of which I was able to resolve with some research. This is one lingering issue I cannot seem to resolve. Any help would be appreciated.I found this link with a potential fix.

Workload management in 10g Grid
Hello,
I can't yet realize on which level workload management will be work in 10g - database or application server?
I mean could workload be provisioned based on schedules or performance thresholds in 10g RAC or such workload balancing deals with only 10g Application Servers clusters?
SLOracle 10g: Infrastructure for
Grid Computing
An Oracle White Paper
September 2003
WHAT IS ENTERPRISE GRID COMPUTING?
Enterprise grid computing builds a critical software infrastructure that can run
on large numbers of small, networked computers, by combining two related
concepts:
Implement One from Many. Grid computing coordinates the use of clusters
of machines to create a single logical entity, such as a database or an
application server. By distributing work across many servers, grid
computing exhibits benefits of availability, scalability, and performance
using low-cost components. Because a single logical entity is implemented
across many machines, companies can add or remove capacity in small
increments, online. With the capability to add capacity on demand to a
particular function, companies get more flexibility for adapting to peak
loads, thus achieving better hardware utilization and better business
responsiveness.
Manage Many as One. Grid computing allows you to manage and
administer groups of machines, groups of database instances, and groups
of application servers at low-cost. Grid computing first removes many of
the administrative costs of managing a single system by making each
database and each application server adaptive to changing circumstances.
Then, the model makes managing many systems simple, by allowing them
to be managed as a single logical entity.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me please how i could find "configured workload managment service" in windows 2008R2 64 bit machine? We are in RAC 2 nodes. I want to run below command to install patches.
srvctl stop service -d <database name> -s <configured workload management service> -i <instancename>The "-s" is the Service Name(s) that you've configured. You could have one or more services configured in the database. In RAC, services are created and managed using srvctl.
Check what services you have. You could use srvctl or query V$ACTIVE_SERVICES. (note : Each instance could have a different set of services running, so you need to query each instance).

IOS SLB and IBM Workload Manager
Does anyone know if IOS SLB can function similar to Multinode Load Balancing (MNLB) in that the IOS router acts as a Services Manager which contacts the OS390 Worload Manager (WLM) who then reports back the best OS390 server for a particular connection.
Under MNLB, the Local Director performs the task as the Services Manager, but can a IOS SLB router perform this task?
Thank you for your help.Steve, thank you for the reply. I have a large-scale OS390 WLM request as I'm told that this is the method for providing server load-balancing in a sysplex environment. I wonder why it is not supported in version 4.X. Do you happen to know the long term goal for OS390 load balancing support?
I appreciate your help, Thank you -
Workload management question (about task creation)
Hi everybody! When I run "ps -efo taskid" command I see a lot of tasks. My questions are: "Are these tasks created by "default" by Solaris?" , "What is the criteria by which Solaris creates these "default" tasks?" and "Shouldn't it be just one default task per zone?"
Thanks a lot!Hi Satish,

Workload Management for PDW V2
Hi,
I understand that in PDW V2 you can have resource classes with different numbers of concurrency slots. For PDW V1, you could have a maximum of 32 concurrency slots. Is there a similar limit in PDW V2? Does it depend on number of racks? Thanks.hi - we still have the restrictions of 32 concurrent queries for PDW V2. This is independent of the appliance topology. Can you please elaborate a little bit more about your environment and requirements? I assume that you've to deal high concurrency.

We have performed workload manager tuning in weblogic console as below.
The property ‘Maximum Threads Constraint’ of work managers OIMMDBWorkManager = 80 and OIMUIWorkManager = 20
Please suggest the solution.Hi,
If you look more closely at the STUCK Thread stack trace, you will notice that the thread is attempting to acquire a LOCK on the following Object monitor: java.io.PrintStream@41a53700. The native thread state is also in a BLOCKED state.
My primary recommendation is to generate a full JVM Thread Dump (next re-occurence) so we can identify the potential culprit Thread holding such lock. One more thing, please see if you have multiple snapshots of this thread 294?
I also recommend to review the following source code:
com.wyndham.operations.user.eventHandlers.PostCreateOperationsEventHandler.execute(PostCreateOperationsEventHandler.java:60)
Sharing the same Stream object in this case would trigger thread lock contention given java.io.PrintStream has built-in synchronization ex:
public void println(String x) {
synchronized (this) {
print(x);
newLine();

Connection failover and transaction failover
Connection failover and transaction failover
I need to know more about a behavior in a RAC cluster. When a node goes down that is executing one of my transaction through JDBC , does the connection and transaction failover to a new node without me needing to restart tran or reconnect ?
Please provide some insight
ThanksTransactions are NOT automatically rolled back. The application must do this otherwise the session will get disconnected.
If you code TAF, all sessions will failover to the backup connection. You can specify that select statements are automatically re-executed after the failover. Insert/update/delete transactions must be explicitly rolled back and resubmitted by the application.
IF you are using an ORacle Connection pool, the connection pool will automatically cleanup connections to the failed instance, abort inflight transactions. The application will either retry or it will propagate the error to the end user.
See the whitepaper on the OTN RAC page (otn.oracle.com/rac) Workload Management with Oracle RAC for more information. -
Whenever I try to prep for a 2013 exchange install I always get:
"earlier versions of the server roles that are installed were detected"
whenever I try to run Setup /prepareschema OR setup /PrepareAD OR Setup /PrepareDomain
I am working on a Server 2012 standard machine with Exchange 2010 currently installed. This server is a DC (bad I know), DNS, DHCP.
I am trying to prep the domain so that I can install Exchange 2013 on a VM and eventually remove Exchange 2010 from the organization altogether.
There are no other domain controlelrs in the domain. The domain started life as a SBS 2003 machine which was demoted and removed once the server 2012 box was up with exchange 2010 running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is some info that may help:
1. PrePare Schema
Navigated an elevated command prompt to the folder with Exchange 2013 CU3.
Ran setup /PrepareSchema
This command should perform the following tasks:
A: Connects to the schema master and imports LDAP Data Interchange Format (LDIF) files to update the schema with
Exchange 2013 specific attributes. The LDIF files are copied to the Temp directory and then deleted after they are imported
into the schema.
B: Sets the schema version (ms-Exch-Schema-Verision-Pt) to a Exchange 2013 value.
This command fails with: Earlier versions of server roles that were installed were detected.
First I confirmed that administrator account for domain is a member of schema admins and enterprise admins.
Next I ran asdiedit.
I navigated to: "CN=ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=BDA,DC=LAN"
and reviewed the current "rangeUpper" attribute.
The ms-Exch-Schema-Verision-Pt is not updated to CU3 range Upper setting.
The current range upper 14734 which means its still at Exchange 2010 SP3 settings.
In short, updaing the schema fails.
2. Prepare Active Directory
Navigated an elevated command prompt to the folder with Exchange 2013 CU3.
setup /PrepareAD [/OrganizationName:<organization name>]
This command fails with: Earlier versions of server roles that were installed were detected.
schema update version 56
I began reviewing the long, long list of the following containers and objects under
CN=<Organization Name>,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=<root domain>
which are required for Exchange 2013:
missing cn=Auth Configuration
missing CN=ExchangeAssistance
missing CN=Monitoring Settings
missing CN=Monitoring Settings
missing CN=Monitoring Settings
missing CN=Workload Management Settings
Checked Management role groups within the Microsoft Exchange Security Groups OU
missing Compliance Management group --- Manually created this entry
Step 3 Prepare Domain:
Navigated an elevated command prompt to the folder with Exchange 2013 CU3.
Ran setup /PrepareDomain
This command fails with: Earlier versions of server roles that were installed were detected.
confirmed the following:
ObjectVersion property fails as it is still set to Echange 2010 sp3 - 13040
You have a new global group in the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container called Exchange Install Domain Servers-DONE
The Exchange Install Domain Servers group is a member of the Exchange Servers USG in the root domain.-DONE
On each domain controller in a domain in which you will install Exchange 2013, the Exchange Servers USG has permissions
on the Domain Controller Security Policy\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Manage Auditing and Security Log policy.-DONE
Thanks.Whenever I try to prep for a 2013 exchange install I always get:
"earlier versions of the server roles that are installed were detected"
Hi,
That tells us that you are trying to run the prep on your combined DC and Exchange 2010 Server - That will not work. Run it on the Server where you plan to install Exchange 2013.
It is not mandatory to run this before the actuall Exchange install - It will run automatically for you, if it hasn't been done already and if you are logged on with an account with the proper permissions.

Access to Outlook Anywhere does not work
Good evening,
I recently installed an Exchange Server 2013 CAS / MB.
Until now, the server presented a few errors (mainly in the
event log) that does not seem to significantly influence functionality.
This week I published the server on the Internet and verified various malfunctions
related to the access from outside.
In particular from outside:
1 - OWA does not work with Windows integrated authentication, it works with the Forms based authentication;
2 - Outlook Anywhere does not work from internet.
I've done a lot of research and testing without success.
With regard to the first issue (which is not a priority but can relate to second one)
add that in Firefox I get a first authentication request. If
I enter credentials it ask again for identical authentication (repeatly), if I cancel it shows a second one that instead allows me access (are slightly different).
I assume that the first is the integrated Windows application and the second is basic authentication.
Internet Explorer shows me only the first authentication request and if I cancel shows blank page.
The problem is
priority 2:
Outlook connects without problems on LAN network, the Internet
seems to download the correct information
(autodiscover), but then does not connect
to the server (connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable).
If you manually edit the settings,
auto-configuration server returns as
a [email protected]. If I change
manually the server (and proxy settings
http), the result does not change.
- Setting information -
The server is installed
in the LAN network and is exposed on the Internet through
a firewall (Pat on port 443, et al. not 80)
on a public address.
The public and private DNS have been configured with a
host record (A) and two
CNAME (webmail and autodiscover).
The internal Outlook clients connect
with autodiscover and HTTPS /
NTLM / SSL (Outlook connectivity
status).
IMAP, SMTP, POP, ActiveSync function.
Exchange remote connectivity analizer retrieves Autodiscover information but doesn't pass test for RPC/HTTP access (it discard accesson
port 443 and try port 80, SPF isn't configured).
The navigation to the url
https://proxyexternalURL/rpc/rpcproxy.dll has the same behaviour like problem 1.
Test-OutlookConnectivity returns unmanaged error ('WARNING: An unexpected error has occurred and a Watson dump is being generated: Failed to find the probe result for invoke now request id -- and probe workdefinition id --').
Errors in eventviewer: 5011 - WAS (one time), 139 - MSExchange OWA (some not ripetitive), 3028 - MSExchangeApplicationLogic (every 6 hours), 106 - MSExchange common (many during working hour), 65535 - application (some at nighttime 00.00 - 03.00 a.m.), 1006
- MSExchangeDiagnostic (every 30 min), 6002 - MSExchange Mid-Tier Storage (about every 5 minutes), 5 - MSExcahnge Workload Management (one time).
Ask for further information.

I'm testing RPC/HTTP connectivity.
Testing RPC over HTTP has not been exceeded.
Test steps
Microsoft connectivity Analyzer is attempting to test the Autodiscover service for user_test@domain_name.test.
Test the Autodiscover service has not been exceeded.
Test steps
I'm trying to contact the Autodiscover service with each method available.
I was not able to contact the Autodiscover service with no method.
Test steps
I'm trying to test the possible URL for the Autodiscover service https://domain_name.test/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.xml
The test of this potential URL for the Autodiscover service has not been exceeded.
Test steps
I'm trying to resolve the host name domain_name. DNS test.
I was able to resolve the host name.
IP addresses are returned: xxx.yyy.zzz.www
I'm testing the TCP port 443 on the host domain_name. tests to check that is open and listening.
The door has been opened properly.
I'm testing the validity of your SSL certificate.
The SSL certificate has not exceeded one or more validation controls.
Test steps
Microsoft connectivity Analyzer is attempting to obtain the SSL certificate from the remote server domain_name. test on port 443.
Microsoft connectivity Analyzer got the remote SSL certificate.
Remote certificate subject: E = it_staff@domain_name.test, CN = * domain_name. test, OU = it staff, O = domain_name, L = city, S = state, C = test issuer: E = it_staff@domain_name.test, CN = * domain_name. test, OU = it staff, O = domain_name,
L = city, S = state, C = test.
I am validating the certificate name.
I could not validate the certificate name.

I'm testing the TCP port 80 on the host autodiscover. domain_name. tests to check that is open and listening.
The specified port is blocked, is not listening or doesn't produce the expected response.
More info about this issue and how to resove it
I encountered a network error while communicating with the remote host.
I'm trying to
find the
SRV DNS record _audiscover._tcp.domain_name.test.
I failed to find
the SRV record of the
Autodiscover service
in DNS.
Some clarifications:
1 - xxx.yyy.zzz.www and xxx.yyy.zzz.kkk
are two static public addresses
of which only the latter exposes Exchange services;
2 - The certificate
*. Domain_name.test is not related
to Exchange services;
3 -I imported the certificate
of the issuing CA on the standalone test PC to validate the certificate.
3- The port 80 is not open and are not published SRV records.
Best regards. -
Best Practice for BusinessObjects Enterprise 3.1 environment set-up
Hi there,
I am wondering if anyone can help me answer this question.
Is it better to install Business Objects Enterprise 3.1 on its own server, rather than on a server that also hosts other applications, such as Informatica, DB2 database?
Where I am working at the moment, BOE, including the WAS and FRS are all set-up on the same server as DB2 and Informatica.
They are talking about using a product called AIX Workload Manager to control how many resources, such as CPU usage, should be allocated to each application. I'm not sure that BOE would perform optimally in this sort of environment. I was always of the belief it should be set-up on completely separate infrastructure because the application can be come resource intensive.
If anyone can provide any insight into this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Many thanks,
Ainsley
Edited by: Ainsley O'Sullivan on Jan 7, 2011 3:29 AMEvery application will probably run faster if it has its own hardware to run on.
If you can afford it to have separate H/W for the BOE server then I would say go for it. THe system is easier to maintain and to troubleshoot.
BOE CAN run on system where other software is running. Keep in mind though that at the end everything depends from the usage pattern and the expected load. It can be really complicated to do a realiable prediction on that if you have many heavy-duty (eg. DB2) installations on the same H/W.
SAP consulting offers sizing services for BOE installations.

Changing thread count in WebLogic 10.3
Hi
We have migrated from WebLogic 8.1 to 10.3.
how do i change the thread count in weblogic 10.3? i saw options in weblogic 8.1 and 9.2 but not in 10.3.
Can anybody throw some light on this. From WL9.0 onwards, the Weblogic thread management mechanism is changed. Now no need to set the thread count. WLS itself is intelligent enough to do the self tuning of the thread pool.
To prioritize and schedule your application requests, you can create work managers and can associate request classes/constraints.You can refer the below article to understand the workload management using work managers.

How to uninstall Oracle 11g Database Options?
I've come across a problem. A company that developed an application, installed Oracle 11g EE.
I guess they would use all default options. Some of them are licensed separately, and are not used. So I need to uninstall them.
For example, I see that it is installed "Advanced Compression". I tried to uninstall it from the Universal Installer, but there isn't an option.Good news for my company.
There has never been used "Advanced Compression" and for everything else we are licensed.
