Works on PC, but not on Mac - 2 Monitors??

When I plug a 2nd Screen into my MBP, and use the MBP screen for 2 independent programs How come that the Menu's and editing (at the top) only appear on the main screen??
This can be confusing and irritating at times, switching back and forth
When I try this with 2 monitors on a PC with 2 programs, both screens are 'self-contained' and work properly?
Is there anyway around this on a Mac so it behaves like a PC, and uses two seperate monitors to use 2 seperate programs without switching back and forth to access the menu's?

No, the Mac only displays ONE menu bar also if you connect two monitors. You can select the monitor which should display the menu bar in System Preferences -> Displays.
Also there is a tool called Secondbar? But never tried it myself.

  • Slide show works on PCs but not on Macs

A parent at the school where I teach has just created a
website for us. She used Dreamweaver and photoshop to create it.
There are some pages where there should be a looping slide show
(that runs on its own). These slide shows work on PCs but not on
Macs (it just stays on one photo on Macs). For the slide show she
"just added a timeline to the jpg image, changing the imagesource
every 60 frames, that you can do in dreamweaver." Is there some way
to fix this so it works on both?
    Here's the school's website: www.smash.smmusd.org

Unfortunately, the timeline function may not be the best way
    to do this.
Notwithstanding Joe's comments about 508 compliance, there
    have been issues
reported in the past regarding the use of timelines on Macs.
    It may be
better to seek some 'banner rotation' scripts using Google,
    and replace the
timelines with that script. Your volunteer may or may not
    know how to do
    that....

  • Password on apple id works on iPad but not on Mac Pro

Pass word on apple id works with iPad but not on Mac Book Pro, what is the solution, I have tried to reset password but that does not seem to solve the problem.

It kind of depends on where you're entering the password on the MacBook Pro. iTunes Store? App Store?
Try the password on this website https://id.apple.com/ (click on [manage my apple id]
If it works on that website there's nothing wrong with your apple id or password. In that case we really will need to know exactly what you're trying to do when you're getting the password error.

  • AIRPORT WORKS ON WINDOWS BUT NOT ON MAC OSX

I own a Mac Mini Intel and I have installed Windows XP with bootcamp. In Windows XP I can connect to my wireless router (and Internet)without problem, but not in Mac OSX. I had this problem with the 10.4.x version, and although I have upgraded to Leopard, the problem continues the same. I can access the router in Windows and change any settings (I say that for if someone knows the solution and it includes changes in the router). Has someone had this problem before? Has someone any solution to this problem? Thank you.

Yes i Seem to be experiencing a similar problem as you, in which connecting to a router on OS X is easy but as soon as i try it on windows xp it cannot establish a connection but my router is already connectingto other windows pcs. Maybe this is because windows cannot recognizethe built in airport, or perhaps it needs to be configured in a way to work with both Xp and os X

  • Safari without flash works on iPad but not on mac

I decided to remove flash from my mac, because I have found that a lack of flash really wasnt causing me any major problems on my ipad.
However, when I access some sites, like this one.....  http://www.dailyfrail.com  on my ipad the embedded video works just fine, but on my mac it wants a plugin.
I tried using the develop option to pretend to be an ipad, but it still wants a plugin.
How do I make safari on mac work as good as safari on an ipad?

    The site requires Flash.
The 10.6 Flash plugin works on v10.7.

  • New shuffle works with Windows but not with Mac

Just got a new 2nd gen shuffle. Initially it was formatted as Fat32 per Disk Utility on Mac. I reformatted to Mac OS (journaled). iTunes was recognizing the new shuffle on the mac and I created a playlist that showed it took up disk space in the "summary" tab. However nothing played on the shuffle when I disconnected it. I was trying to update the software but that function is greyed out. I tried to click "enable disc use" and when I applied it, it says it can't find the ipod. It wont let me update anything. The only thing I can do is create a playlist that the summary says is on the ipod but it doesnt play.
I then connected it to my Windows XP machine and it asked me to reformat the drive, which I did, then everything worked flawlessly. I would really prefer to download things to the shuffle from my Mac than Windows XP but it just won't let me. I tried using "iPod Updater" and the most recent one from the list was 03/2006 and that didn't help anyhting. "iPod Reset Utility" would not recognize the ipod to reset it even after I sucessfully set it to Mac OS journaled in Disk Utility.
I am very frustrated. This also happened to my Nano I purchased a few months ago and I have to organize it on the PC as well.
    I am running iTunes 7.2

I have exactly the same problem with my two
computers, both of which are Macs. The shuffle is
recognised on one, but not the other.
    Here's a screenshot of iTunes ->
    http://www.simongbrown.com/blog/images/2007/shuffle-no
    t-recognised.png
BTW, I also have an older white iPod in use on the
    Mac that doesn't work.
I've tried a few things (including running iTunes
under a different user account, reinstalling iTunes)
but nothing seems to help. The only thing left to do
is reinstall the OS, but that sounds a little extreme!
That's way too extreme... Use the shuffle Reset Utility.

  • Facetime works on iphone but not on mac using snow leopard?

Face Time is synced to my iphone 4S, and Face Time works on it. But when I try to make calls on my imac (snow leopard) using Face Time, it doesn't work, it says that the 'call failed'. I've turned off Face Time on my iphone, so that the calls will go to the mac only, and calls i make will go from the mac only.
    Any ideas?

The Version of Snow Leopard is 10.6
My only thought as to why Facetime is not working is because of the recent changeover to iOS 6.
Apple are obviously trying to get everyone on to Mountain Lion, but some users, including myself
prefer to wait a while to let the gremlins get sorted.
Any ideas on the above will be welcome

  • Wi-Fi card will work on OS9 but not with mac OS X

I've been having a lot of problems with my imac until I brought to a repair center last year. They had to replace the motherboard and a few other compenents to get it working. Anyway, the end result would be that the wi-fi card wouldn't work. I can detect it and the computer can 'see' it in MAC OS X 'Tiger' but no wi-fi networks are detected. Now what's really strange is that networks are detected when I boot into mac os 9. I've looked for drivers for the airport card but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? One other thing...my internal modem does not work as a fax, it keeps saying modem busy (even though I have an ethernet connection). Please help. Thanks.
iMac G4 flat panel   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

Proxy Settings may be set by connection however - that does not imply that all of the services provided by Apple Utilise these connections.
*iPod Touch - No Firmware Updates Applied*: Able to use services like Google Maps, YouTube, Weather
    (Confirmed on 3 iPod Touches)
*iPod Touch - Latest Firmware Updates Applied:* Unable to use services like Google Maps, YouTube, Weather. (Confirmed that this connection fails on 2/3 that have been upgraded, one is still pre v2 firmware and connects fine)
Both iPod Touches are configured identically - with a static IP address, differing by one digit.
Same DNS, Same Gateway, Same Proxy IP Address, Same Username/Password.
The issue is not caused by configurations, it is caused by a difference in how authenticate proxy configurations are handled between the firmware supplied with a pre v2 iPod Touch, and the updated v2 firmware.
Perhaps v3 will resolve this issue, but at this time if you have any choice, do not upgrade further iPod Touches to v2 if you require internet access via an authenticated proxy in applications such as Maps, Weather, Mail etc.

  • Dynamic spelling works on PC but not on Mac CS5.5

I have a simiar issue as ebookaficiando in a previous thread. in our group we use indd file cs5.5 on a pcs and macs, when we open the file in a mac  the dynamic spelling does not work. If we make a file from scratch on the mac, the dynamic spelling works normally.
We need dynamic spelling to work on both PC and mac since we work on these same files on both PCs and Macs.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks Peter
Yep - Checked the prefs and all the usual suspects and suggestions from a few previous threads, also updated to latest the version.
The problem seems to be on all the files that were originally created in a PC environment. When we open the file in our Mac environment the Dynamic Spell check function no longer works - checked all the settings, the charcter language tab is on (US English), we're not in overprint preview mode etc. The dynamic spelling works fine in the PC environment. I guess not so many users are working in groups with a cross-platform environment.

  • Keynote for iPhone works with iPad but not with Mac

I purchased Keynote for iPhone and is working well with my iPad but can't seem to transfer it to my Mac. Do I need to buy it separately?

Keynote for iOS and Mac, are incompatible as they are written for different operating systems.
You must install the Mac version on a Mac which is a separate purchase. It is free to users who purchased a Mac from mid-October 2013.

  • Super Drive works on Windows but not on Mac OS X

I used Mac OS X to burn a DVD, used different media but it always spits the DVD out saying an unexpected error occured. Am able to burn to the same DVDs on Windows (Boot Camp).
    Unable to find a solution.

You might try pointing JaNeLA *(<- link)* at it, and fixing any errors it reports. Ignore any optimisations suggested. The optimisations are not properly debugged and would not cause the kind of errors you report.
Oh, and a ++++ to that advice to to ensure the console pops open when encountering a web start app. Make sure the code is not [swallowing exceptions|http://pscode.org/javafaq.html#stacktrace] *(<- link)* at any stage.

  • Dvd works in player but not in mac dvd viewer...

Ok, so let me know if this has already been discussed...
I just created a movie, exported to idvd, set everything up, and burned it. It opens and plays just fine in my dvd player, but when I put it back into my iMac G5 or into my IBook, it won't open the menu or play the movie. It says it is not supported...any ideas?

Just kidding everyone...I figured it out...THanks!

  • CS6 Plugin works on windows but not mac

    Hi,
We have been developing a plugin for InDesign since CS3 and have recently ported it to CS6 (it was ported to all previous versions too, as they came out).
I followed the porting guide etc. and on windows it compiles and runs just ok - the plugin works correctly.
But when i compiled the same files on our mac machine and put the .indesignPlugin file in th plugins directory i can't see our plugin's context menu.
I can see that it is in fact loaded on startup (when i remove it ID loads 325 extensions, when i put it back - 326), but still it dosen't seem to work...
I initially thought that the versioning was off but our PluginVersion resource relies solemnly on SDKDef.h , i also tried putiing the file in CS5's plugin directory and got an error message that CS6 is required - so the version info is fine i guess.
We are using xCode 3.2.5 (because we have to support Mac OS 10.5 and 10.4) to build on mac and i've never had problems before - it worked on CS4, CS5 and CS5.5.
The changes i made when porting were minor and only in the code - so what has changed? and how come it works on windows but not on mac?
Any input is greatly appreciated, i've already spent days trying to understand this.
    Thanks,
    Dan.

Hi and thank you for replying.
The resources do get compiled correctly (i assume this because we do get a .indesign file at the end - which means the ODFRC ran ok). they are linked correctly in the mac project (i saw a file that determines the version - it's linked the same way against my win and mac projects and the win version works fine so i guess that's ok too).
the context menu is just another menu on the "menu bar" (don't know how to call it?) - i.e where the "file" and "edit" etc. menus are.
I can't seem to understand how come this works fine under windows but not under mac - they are essentially the same projects linked against the same resources (the difference being iCode vs VC10 projects).
can this be related to the fact we're using xCode 3.2.5?
    Thank you.

  • Can manually subscribe with Windows but not with Mac

For some reason I am able to manually subscribe to the below feed just fine with iTunes on my PC (Windows XP) but I get an error when trying with my iMac (OS X 10.5.8):
The error I'm getting with my iMac references "An unknown error occured (400)"
I was troubleshooting a different feed and am getting similar results: it works fine with the PC, but not with the iMac:
The error I'm getting on this feed however states "The file might be corrupted, or a file type that iTunes cannot play"
Can anyone think of why these feeds work with Windows but not with Mac? Any advice is appreciated!

The problem lies with the URLs for your media files. The one for the top episode is
    http://www.metalspeak.com/episodes/MetalsPeak 10 - GenresPeak.mp3
This URL contains spaces, which are not allowed in a URL. Browsers - and from what you say iTunes in Windows - handles this by substituting the code %20 for each space when requesting the file; iTunes for Mac does not.
You need either to change the filename for each media file, removing the spaces or substituting something such as an underscore, and then amending the feed accordingly: or at the least to amend the feed by replacing each space with %20.
It's the same problem in the other feed.
