Workspace as RSS aggregator?

Hi,
Can Workspace act as an RSS aggregator and show feeds from several news web sites in my Workspace?
Thanks in advance,
Navneet.

The Workspaces interface layout is still pretty limited. You may want to consider using Oracle Portal and the Omni Portlet for the RSS feeds. You could then use the Workspace Web Services APIs to build out custom portlets to have a customized layout that meets your needs.

  • Workspace Manager Wrong Aggregation

    Hi to all,
I've created a cube under Analytic Workspace Manager with its dimensions, hierarchies and measures. But when I view cube data, it aggregates only first row of fact table. For example:
    I have following fact table:
    User Sales
    John 15,30
    John 18,30
and when I see cube data the result is the following:
    John -> 15,30 indeed of John ->33,60
    Why?
    Thanks
    Giancarlo

    hi!
you're in the wrong forum, this is about the Oracle Workspace Manager (OWM), not the Analytical Workspace manager (AWM).

  • Safari 5.1 (7534.50) [for Windows] is not updating read RSS item counts

I've just upgraded to Safari 5.1 (7534.50) [for Windows].  I've noticed that the RSS new item indicator counts are not being decremented after I open the RSS page for that item.  Are others experiencing this problem?
I went so far as to create a new addition of an RSS entry, it indicated unread items.  After visiting the RSS aggregator page the count does not go to zero as it has been prior to installing this new version.
Any suggestions on what to look at to fix this, or is this truly a bug in this new version?
    Thanks.

well - i serious does not understand why apple did this. RSS broken, removing single cookies is not longer possible - except you visit the page and go in developer window. these two functions are very important for me, and maybe for other devlopers too - anyway ... i love the safari, because it is one of the fastest and css conformest (:-) browser. but step back one version is NOT an option ! I don't see that these things coming back, or getting fixed in short way, steping back and stay on old browser is a no go for me (bugs, injections, bla)
so i decide somedays ago to migrate anything to firefox 5. using tons of addons to bring back a bit confortability. i try meanwhile 4 external rss reader, and lol all what i have to say is - forgot all external rss readers - they are crap - do not waste time to find a replacement like safari. now i have firefox 5 with sage (this is not bad - some issues - but ok - updates only on click (bad) - and does not mark read after left (bad) - but in total better than a constant not updating counter), rightbar, adblock, status4ever, and much more. And it is ok ... i have a fast PC so idk speed at all :-) FF and Safari are different !! But after 3 days of usage the differences getting less and less. Well the point is - i browser websites - no matter what browser i really use ... (thinking like that makes easier for you to switch - haha - troll-my-self - but it works)
PS: this is just my personally - that looks like it would fit for me - doesnt means it fits for you too

  • Is there a way to import images without crashing?

I am on Windows and I have 8000 images or so in 40 directories.
When I import into LR, it crashes. I have been sending that crash data to Microsoft (that dialog that pops up), so the Adobe engineers can download it from there.
    A few things I noticed:
    * when importing the same photos from the same directory tree, LR shows me a list of the photos it will not import, because they are already in the library. this is great, but it only shows the first couple of hundred or maybe a thousand? It does not list the most recently added photos. It's almost as if there is a limit to how many "previously loaded images in the library" it can handle.
    * sometimes when crashes occur, i get a crash dialog and sometimes LR just restarts... either can happen when processing the same photos and the same directories. I can't see a pattern.
    * note: *all* of these 8000 photos can be loaded with Bridge/Photoshop without errors, so I am sure it's a LR problem.
I understand software development, but why didn't Adobe QA team test importing with hundreds or thousands of images? With the wealth of development tools availalbe today, these kinds of stress tests can be done in an automated way, as part of the build process.

    A bit of history:
During the beta phase I only had a very small library with some
unimportant photos. When I uninstalled beta 4 a week or so before v1
came out I did not delete the original database.
I installed v1, the original DB was automatically detected and used, I
added all my pictures to it. While import went quite smoothly,
performance later on was abysmal. So, yesterday I decided to dump the
old library, creating one from scratch. This way I could also take
note of those files LR could not import.
    The situation:
I have three HDs connected to the computer [one internal, two FW], the
internal one holding the least number of photos. Importing the few
hundred internally stored files went alright, the same operation on
the FW-connected drives crashed several times.
    Probable culprit:
When I am on the computer various programs for communication are
running in the background, e-mail [The Bat!], browser [Opera 9.1] and
    IM [Trillian] the foremost.
Trillian uses an XML UI; it also features plug-ins of which I have a
installed a handful, like a weather-forecast. The one regularly
hitting performance is my RSS aggregator, a plug-in called Good News.
It may be curious coincidences but since I installed LR I had two or
three crashes of Trillian when LR was running; and the crashes on
import with LR happened just when Good News refreshed a number of RSS
feeds. The new messages are shown as small windows on the desktop,
fading away after a few seconds. With more than one new message [most
of the time there are more, often enough a lot more] the windows stack
up until the border of the desktop is reached, then they move down
when other notification windows disappear. Quite some work for CPU and
    graphics adaptor.
I explain that because it may help others to find the problem, and in
order to give Adobe something to look for [like incompatibilities
    between application].
BTW, after I closed down Trillian and let LR work, no crash anymore.
    Could be coincidence, though.

Take a look at the current websites that offer information
about the sporting events you are interested in. Do any of them
offer RSS feeds? If so, you can roll your own RSS aggregator to
pull the information down from them to use in your application.
    Keep in mind:
In some cases, someone had to compile this data from a number
of different souces, which may mean the websites may have
restrictions on how the data in their feeds can be used.
If you are dealing with just one sport at just one level
(collegiate, NBA, etc) you can go directly to the site of the
overseeing body of the sport to see if you can obtain the data you
    want in electronic format.

  • Most efficient way to add maintain items dynamically

    Hi everyone,
I am going to build a website that delivers news and events
of a particular sport. I understand that I need to use RSS to
deliver news content but I was wondering about the other part of
what I want to do. I have come across sites that will have for
example, all upcoming basketball games for a specfic region. The
user can either search according to region or browse through,
sometimes very comprehensive, up to date listings. In my uneducated
mind, the only way I know how to build such an event listing is to
manually scour the web and enter each event into a database, then
of course use ColdFusion to "expire" the events when they have
passed. Or I could let the web community build the events
themselves, by allowing them to propose an event, then I as
administrator would validate and allow it to post. The problem is,
when building a new site, I would like it to be comprehensive from
the beginning. Is there any more dynamica way to do what I just
described in CF? Or any other way?
    thank you,
    SR

  • Storing and displaying web sites

    Hi,
I'm writing an RSS Aggregator and I want to be able to download an HTML web site and present it to the user in a nice way. I know there are some very nice existing browsers out there, but the problem is they all take a URL. Therefore, they require an active internet connection to view the site. I would like, if possilbe, to be able to store the HTML so that even if the user is not online they can still view it.
So far all I've come up with is storing the HTML as a String, but that doesn't capture images or style information and ends up not looking very nice when you put it in a JEditorPane. It's not absolutely crucial to be able to capture images, but it would certainly be nice. Of course, I don't expect to be able to follow links with my off-line application either - I'm not trying to download the entire internet!
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    -Peden

Ok so I did some more investigation on this serialize
issue and I found it is a known bug that was
    documented as early as 2002!

This guy was trying to do exactly the same thing I am
    - so it turns out there IS a nice tool out there for
storing a web site and this it! Supposedly there is
an easy fix to the HTMLDocument class but I guess
Sun's developers just haven't gotten around to it
    yet???
So is it conceivable that I could change Java's
source code to fix this problem for me? I feel like
this is the tool I am looking for and the solution is
right there, there's just this stupid little easy to
fix bug which is preventing me from getting this
    thing working. Any insight?
    Thanks,
-PedenI don't think you can get your changes into JDK 1.6 since that is in RC. I don't know if you can submit code to 1.7 yet, but that would be an option.
You shouldn't try to modify the class for an existing version since the VM won't load it (unless you place it on the bootclasspath)

I have tried to download a rented movie but keep getting the "unable to download" at this time message. What's wrong?  This is all new to me.

Look at this RSS example.  View source.  It's an XML file with a list of audio files. You can subscribe to the feed and have it saved to iTunes etc...for import into iPod, or Live Bookmarks, or Browser bookmarks or some other RSS aggregator on your PC.
Or you can click on individual links to launch your player.

My suggestion is to provide options for as many users as possible.  Not everyone has an iPod, not everyone has Flash player capability.

  • ITunes U Bug List

This is my running list of the bugs remaining within iTunes U. If anyone else has a bug (or insights into ways to fix these bugs), please feel free to post them!

    ID3 Tags Often Go Amiss
Problem: MP3s created in Audacity 1.2.5 and exported to iTunes for ID3 tag editing often lose their tag information when uploaded to iTunes U. I believe this problem isn't unique to Audacity, as others have reported problems with their tags. This probably does not occur when uploading files created in GarageBand that have had their ID3 tags edited in iTunes.
Probable Cause: Based on what I can see in MP3 ID3X, the cause may be ID3 version conflicts between other applications and iTunes. When opened in MP3 ID3X, I see the same sort of partial ID3 tag info as I see after uploading a file to iTunes U.
Workaround: Edit the ID3 tags using a dedicated editor like MP3 ID3X (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/5840) or ID3 Editor (http://www.pa-software.com/product.php?prod=BC3B2E3A). Both are available for the Macintosh. I recommend MP3 ID3X because it allows you to edit images in addition to the text fields.
Podcast RSS Feeds Display the Title Field as Description
Problem: The RSS feeds use the "title" of the podcast for the description field in the feed; as a result the title ends up being listed twice. It would be better if the description field defaulted to using the comments field instead.
    Workaround: None
    HTTPS Nonsecure JavaScript Bug
Problem: When logging into iTunes U via secure connections, an error message about mixed secure/nonsecure page elements appears in IE web browsers (Firefox doesn't complain, but I may have disabled that warning). In IE 6 and 7 , you need to choose to accept the nonsecure items or else the page dies with JavaScript errors.
Probable Cause: One of the JavaScript components evoked by the Apple script resides at an insecure "http" address. The specific error message is:
    The IE 6 Error Message:
Error: This page contains both secure and nonsecure items. DO you want to display the nonsecure items?
I think the problem code maybe here:
    <Script language="Javascript" type="text/javascript" src="http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/detection/itmsCheck.js"></Script>
    Workaround: Accept the nonsecure content.
"Store Not Found Error" in Firefox 1.5 and IE 6 on Windows
Problem: When launching iTunes U from Firefox 1.5 and IE 6 on a Windows XP machine running iTunes 6, I often get a message about iTunes not being able to connect to the Music Store. In all of these cases, iTunes 6 is closed, and Firefox/IE is opening the application.
I have not seen this error on machines with iTunes 7 installed.
The error message I see is:
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was terminated unexpectedly. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
    (then the store loaded properly)
Workaround: Click the "ok" button on the Dialogue box and the store loads normally.
    ------ NON-APPLE BUGS ---------
Firefox Does Not Recognize the ITMS and ITMSS protocol
Problem: When Firefox is used to login into iTunes U, a dialogue box appears asking the user what they want to do with the url starting with "itmss". In Firefox 1.5 on the Mac, the dialogue box is exceedingly wide, hiding the "accept" button from the user.
Cause: Firefox does not no how to handle the itms:// or itmss:// protocols
Workaround: Most users can choose to allow Firefox to accept the itms:// protocol and allow the browser to remember their choice. For Firefox 1.5 users on the Mac, they will need to use special "empty" links to itms:// and itmss:// to train Firefox on how to handle the protocol. With Firefox 2.0 for the Mac, this ceases to be a problem because the dialogue box now appears at a manageable size.

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Problem: Lack of Permalinks in RSS
Overview: We are experimenting with using the RSS reader in Moodle to display feeds from iTunes U. We can display the feed's list in Moodle, but because there are no permalinks given, there is no way to click on a headline and bring up the course information in iTunes U. The RSS feed does link to the headline's file, but Moodle's RSS aggregator (based on Magpie) does not use that link, and neither do other RSS readers.
Workaround: We don't have a good one yet. In theory, we could modify our Moodle code to recognize iTunes feeds, and then programatically insert a link to the course in iTunes U. This is at best a hack however -- ideally we'd like to be able to use the public feeds to link to iTunes U in a variety of applications, including Moodle, Blackboard, and Luminis (a portal sold by Sungard SCT and based on the uPortal framework).
Suggested solution: A permalink to the course page in iTunes U should be included in each of the items in the RSS feed.

  • Multiple data sources

creating a job board that pulls data from at least a dozen
external sources, as well as display jobs posted in the database.
External sources will be either in xml or need to be screen

Only in your RSS aggregator, which usually keeps old entries.
    The feed
itself only contains the most recent items.
    >If I just parse the xml and insert it into the database,
    i'll end
    >up with duplicates.
Then you should check for dupes before you insert them into
    the DB.
Dependent on the data the DB might be able to handle this
    itself, for
example with an INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE statement.
    >Let's say I only insert ones with todays date, ok that
    >will work with avoiding duplicates, but if they modify or
    remove something,
    >that would also need to be done in the database as well,
    and you can't do that
    >unless you're attaching something that can identify it in
    the database.
Correct. And usually there is something that can be used to
    identify a
particular record, maybe the name of the source, a title and
    the date
when it was released for the first time or something like
    that. These
informations could be merged into an MD5 hash for example to
    get an
    almost unique record identifier.

    Judd wrote:
    Hello All,
I've been receiving a few constructive complaints about the apparent lack
of progress within the official areas of Arch development.
Now, we revisit this subject about once every six months, and anyone
that relies heavily on open-source has probably been faced with similar
frustrations, either as an open-source producer or a consumer.
Let me allay any concerns -- Arch moves on, as always.  But currently we've
been bogged down by some large package updates, so the majority of our
efforts have been poured into the Testing repository.  Normally you'd see
this effort appear in Current/Extra instead, where it would be
    publicly noticed.
To try and keep everyone on the same page, here's a little list of the main
projects we need to do, and a tentative ordering of them.
    1. We have a list of 600 packages that need to be rebuilt as part of the
gcc4/libtool-slay projects.  We have about 80% of them finished.  The
big move may occur as soon as this Saturday.
    2. We need to release soon.  There are some other improvements we really
want to have ready for 0.8, so a new plan has been proposed.  Instead of
releasing a 0.8 soon, we would release a 0.7.1 that has the (almost) same
installation as 0.7, but with an updated package set.  This will give us
time to work on the installer for 0.8.
    3. Xorg modularization, by JGC.
Xorg 7.0 is switching to autotooled libraries, splitting up each and
every library they have. This makes parts of Xorg easier maintainable
and makes xorg development easier for people who want to contribute.
When you want to contribute something nowadays it's nearly impossible
without spending two full days investigating the Imake buildsystem.
    4. OpenSSL 0.9.8 is out, and we have to rebuild all packages that link to
    it.
    5. QT4 needs to be packaged.  Tpowa is proposing a side-by-side approach
with QT3 and QT4, as some apps will not build with QT4.
    6. Combine kernel26 and kernel26-scsi into one initrd-driven kernel.  This
would be really nice for everyone to have -- I'd like to have this ready
    by 0.8.
In an attempt to keep Arch development activity more visible, we were
thinking of setting up a development Arch blog.  This blog would be
admin'ed by official developers, but anyone involved in Arch development
would be able to post to it.  Basically, we want a way to aggregate all
    Arch progress in one place.
The frontpage isn't the best, as that should be reserved for important
announcements and tricky/weird package upgrades.  The dev blog would be
updated much more frequently.  For example, a TU may post about his latest
triumph in getting package X and Y to build with package Z, or whatever.
Developers can post status updates about large/unruly projects like
libtoolslay, or just one of those "i'm still alive but busy" posts that
are so frequent (we devs are popular people in real life, dontcha know).
Now, I know this is yet another web service, and it may not get used and
it may just add yet another place to confuse the newbie.  Let me know if
you feel this is the case.
Another point to bring up is Planet Arch.  The Planet is an RSS aggregator
for some developer blogs.  The one issue with the Planet is that it
aggregates ALL posts from our personal blogs, not just Arch-related ones.
A second point is that all Arch devs (official and un-) may not have
personal blogs to use, so they will need an Arch-hosted one.
As a "workaround" for people that use and like the Planet, we can feed all
the dev blog entries directly into the Planet, so you can still read your
juicy Arch tidbits from there, if you so desire.
Please share your thoughts, and let's keep it constructive.  Constructive
    is fun!

  • Why can't my mp3 files be downloaded from my website?

    Hello there,
I am creating a HTML website for a client and they want a 'podcast' page with a listing of their podcasts. The idea is that the viewer can click on the link on the web page and have a choice of either listening to the podcast streamed through the website or they can download it to put on an ipod if they want. The trouble is that when I click on the link, I can only listen to the mp3 files streamed. Normally when I upload a file, e.g. a PDF file, it can be downloaded when its link is clicked on. Am I doing something wrong? I need a 'download' option too.
I've read about RSS feeds and find it terribly confusing and can't find a clear, simple explanation anywhere on how to do it.
    My webpage is: http://alfierobertsinstitute.ca/podcasts.html
(It's still a mess as it's a work in progress.)
I would really appreciate some help or advice regarding my problem.
PS. The podcasts are not embedded in my HTML. I have them uploaded in a separate Podcast folder on my server space.
    Thank you in advance.

  • I have a cunning Plan !!!

This is my first post so be gentle. I have an idea for a program that will act as a home network media RSS aggregator. I will explain what i would like to do is create a program that will search folders ( selected by the user ) for media audio and video and build an RSS feed or separate feeds eg. kids, romantic, action, tv series etc....... the program would output this file or files and possibly html file with links pointing to XML files. Ok reason for this is to link up with miro/songbird for media play back and HFS and noip or similar for access to rss feeds. I have tried many different media centres Boxee, XBMC, freevo etc... all of them are either not stable enough or hard to setup or not cross platform or a combination of all three. The reason for not using a site to aggregate like yahoo pipes or similar is because the finished feed is not private and there are legal implications of sharing copyright material. so what I would like to ask is what would be the best way to create this program in Java and where is the best place to get the information I am going to need to complete this project.
many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Ok thanks gimbal2 thanks for the quick response I have limited knowledge of Java but I can see you have guest that already. I have programmed in other languages mainly basic and autoit but I have switched over to linux and wanted to start programming in a language which was cross platform. I actualy first looked at python but funnily enough linux support for the newest python release is weak.
I have googled about a bit and have done some of the tutorials on the Netbeans site in relation to the gui side of java as I had not had much experiance of gui building unfortunately my access to java books (in english) is limited.
At the moment I am trying to find a way of selecting multiple directories to search for media I have seen the file/directory chooser i was going to use this in someway similar to the auto playlist builder in wmp e.g. which directories would you like to search with an add button which is then moved down/replaced by a label showing the selected directory path with further directories being added in this way till you are ready to search those directories for media.

  • Complete System Slowdown

I have an iMac G4 1GHz. I've owned it for a little over a year. The computer is running INCREDIBLY SLOW. It's been doing this for months. Starting up takes about five minutes, opening Word takes a few minutes, Safari takes a while to load pages, etc. It was running 10.2, so I wiped the drive and upgraded to tiger 10.4. I pulled out the upgrade of 512 MB RAM, and that slowed the system down even more. Have you ever run across a problem like this? I've been using Macs for over ten years and I've never run into an overall system slowdown like this.

I had to put MenuMeters on my wife's iMac. She finds herself with gobs of Mozilla windows open. Unfortunately, things like animated graphics suck CPU horribly.
    http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/menumeters/
Anyway MenuMeters let me but a CPU graph on the menu bar. it helps her determine exactly when she opens a CPU-hogging web page. It can also display network usage, disk space, memory usage, etc.
The system information dashboard widget might also help.
You want to find out if you're CPU-bound, I/O-bound, or memory-bound. Then find the offending app and kill/remedy it.
    top -ocpu
in a terminal window will also show you what processes are chewing CPU.
It might also be an application. I was once caught by the RSS Aggregator NetNewsWire because I didn't realize that every time I opened an article, I was creating a Tab in the reader. Eventually, every time I started the reader, it was loading hundreds of tabs but only showing me about 4 of them. I now open articles using a web browser.

  • Network user login keychain

    Guys,
Got one of my network users using his network account - he has an RSS aggregator that's continually popping up and asking to use his login keychain password. I mean "continually" - 20-25 times a day. Now the reason it needs it is fine - he's accessing feeds from one of our own wiki servers which also authenticates using his network user account, however I've set it to "Remember this password" to no avail.
I've even trashed his login keychain and created a brand new one, but still no joy. Has anyone got any incredibly helpful suggestions, lol?
This is also posted in the 10.6 server section (since that's the OD server that manages his account).
    Thanks (hopefully) in advance,
    Matt

Ok then, I got one for you. Similar sort of thing. Just created a 10.6 server, created all the relevant users within WGM, then imported the home folders from the previous 10.5 server. Ensured all new UIDs matched the UIDs from the 10.5 WGM because it then simplifies permissions - i.e. all the permissions are recognised by the new server automatically for the right users.
Now for one of my users, her login keychain is never open by default. When you start Keychain Access (she's on 10.5.8 btw) you get the System keychain and the System Roots list of certificate authorities, but no login keychain.
Have checked the permissions of her ~/Library/Keychains/ folder and they're correct, as are the permissions for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain.
Double-clicking on the login.keychain file opens it up just fine in Keychain Access, however as soon as you close KA and re-open it, the login keychain's gone again.
I've tried importing a keychain, adding an existing keychain (obviously the login one) and creating a new keychain called login, none of which work - there's no error, it just ignores me.
I'd rather not create a temporary user account, transfer all the docsuments/mail etc, delete the original and recreate a new one using the old name and copy everything back, but unless someone can help me out, that's what I'm going to have to do.
There has to be some guru's out there somewhere that can help???
    Thanks in advance,
    Matt
