Workspace Manager Patch 10.2.0.4.2 fails on XE 10.2.0.1.0

I went to install WM Patch 10.2.0.4.2 on my XE 10.2.0.1.0 database and it fails. The patch ReadMe implies that this will work, and I have had luck installing previous versions of the WM patch. The 10.2.0.2 WM patch installed wo errors for me and worked fine. I need to upgrade from that version however as I need to access a WM procedure that was added later on, or else I would just stay with that WM version.
Any ideas? There wasn't a log created, but I copied the installer error messages below.

OK, I figured it out after your prompting to check dba_errors. I was getting this error on LTADM when running the scripts:
PLS-00201: identifier 'UTL_FILE' must be declared
PL/SQL: Declaration ignored
PLS-00905: object WMSYS.LTADM is invalid
PLS-00304: cannot compile body of 'LTADM' without its specification
PL/SQL: Compilation unit analysis terminated
After investigating SYS.UTL_FILE I could see there was a problem with the Public Synonym. So I ran the command:
Grant execute on sys.utl_file to public;
And that seemed to fix everytihng. The WM 10.2.0.4.2 scripts ran fine after that.
Thanks for the assistance.

• Upgrading from 9.0.1.3 to 11.2.0.4 with Oracle Workspace Manager

Our client has a (very old) 9.0.1.3 database on Windows 2000
This database (and other products – but that’s not the main concern right now) needs to be upgraded to 11.2.0.4 in Windows2008R2 (64 bit).
A complicating factor might be the use of Oracle Workspace Manager – a lot of tables are Workspace Managed.
We can do it the long way, by upgrading it via 9.1.0.4, 10.2.0.1, 10.2.0.4 -> Export and then, on the new environment, import on 10.2.0.4 en subsequently upgrade it to 10.2.0.5 and then 11.2 (and maybe some more patching afterwards).
But that takes way too long (downtime).
So would it be possible to do it the “easy way”:
Full Database Export of 9.0.1.3, import it into a brand new empty 11.2.0.4 and then upgrade Workspace Manager to 11.2 as well?
Or should we upgrade OWM to 11.2 in the old environment - and is that possible at all?
(FYI: Snippet from the OWM manuals : Workspace Manager supports the import and export of version-enabled tables in one of the following two ways: a full database import and export, and a workspace-level import and export through Workspace Manager procedures. No other export modes, such as schema, table, or partition level, are currently supported).
(On purpose cross-posted in the "Workspace Manager" Forum : Upgrading from 9.0.1.3 to 11.2.0.4 with Oracle Workspace Manager

The database is not that big (in fact there are two, both around 130Gb).
Affordable downtime is one weekend. The long way (with all patching and upgrading) takes around 100 hours...
We did raise an SR, but the answer was ... take the long way home ;-)
(But, FYI, I didn't raise the SR, so I don't know what question has been asked... If the original question was "how to upgrade", you get the official statement. If you don't ask for other options, you don't get them - so I ask it here...)
And I've seen that presentation... Thanks anyway.

• How to install analytic workspace manager?

I have Oracle 9.2.0.1 running on Windows. I have installed 9.2.0.3 database patch. I couldn’t see analytic workspace manager tool? How to get the tool?
I will greatly appreciate if you can guide me with some links or steps.

Few days back I went to a Oracle Demo and there I used Analytic Workspace Manager, which is running on Windows 2000 (both database and the tool on same machine).
It was located in
Start menu --> Oracle home --> Integrated Management Tolls Folder.
I couldn't see that on my 9.2.0.1 installation. So I installed the new patch 9.2.0.3, still I am not able to see that tool.
Am I missing anything? Any other patch?

• Analytic Workspace Manager 9.2.0.4

Hi
When I attempt to create a workspace in Analytic Workspace Manager an error message is displayed saying that the database I am using is not a 9.2.0.2 compatible database and the DBMS_AWM package cannot be found.
I have, however, patched my database to 9.2.0.5. Is Analytic Workspace Manager version 9.0.4 incompatible with Oracle DB version 9.2.0.5?
My environment setup is as follows:
Analytic Workspace Manager (9.2.0.4)
Oracle DB 9i Rel 2 (9.2.0.5)
Windows XP Professional SP 2.
Thanks
Ryan

AWM 9.2.0.4.1 is forward compatible on the 9.2 code stream. It works with the current 9.2.0.5.0 and 9.2.0.6 patch sets. My guess is that the Post Installation steps for the 9.2.0.5.0 patch set were not performed. For example, did the catpatch.sql script run? A lot of people overlook this required step in the readme.
In order to check to see if your patch set was installed correctly, perform the following query:
SQL> select comp_name, version, status from dba_registry;
You should see 9.2.0.5 and VALID for the OLAP components.

• Analytic Workspace Manager 10.2.0.1.0A available

Analytic Workspace Manager 10.2.0.1.0A is now available. You can find it on MetaLink as PS# 4656244 or OTN at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/olap/index.html.
What is AWM 10.2.0.1.0A? It is a patched, stand-alone client that supercedes the version found on the Oracle Database Client CD for 10gR2.
What's the background on AWM 10.2.0.1.0A? It was initially created to fix issues while connecting to Oracle OLAP 10.1.0.4.0 but over time picked up some other fixes.
Which Oracle OLAP versions does AWM 10.2.0.1.0A work with? It works with Oracle OLAP 10.1.0.4.0 and above on the Oracle Database 10gR1 code stream and Oracle Database 10.2.0.1.0.
Does AWM 10.2.0.1.0A require a corresponding Oracle OLAP 'A' patch to the database? No
Is there scheduled an AWM 10.1.0.5 or any other future 10gR1 version? No, AWM 10.1.0.4 users can move to AWM 10.2.0.1.0A.

There are posts on the OLAP forum covering this problem. Anthony Waite from the OLAP Product Management team has provided the following information:
e new, default Model View in AWM 10.1.0.4.0 is based upon the OLAP Analytic Workspace API (a.k.a. AW/XML). Just to recap and further clarify my earlier post, you must pass the following requirements in order to use it:
1) Be sure to be using the Enterprise Edition of the Oracle Database 10g.
SQL> select banner from v$version where banner like 'Oracle%';
You should see Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition.
2) Be sure to have the Data Warehouse database configuration or the OLAP Option enabled.
SQL> select parameter, value from v$option where parameter='OLAP';
You should see OLAP TRUE.
3) Be sure that the RDBMS 10.1.0.4 patch set has been completely installed. Users often miss the required Post-Installation Steps such as running catpatch.sql.
SQL> select comp_name, version, status from dba_registry;
You should see VALID and 10.1.0.4.0 for the OLAP components.
4) The Oracle Database must have the compatibility mode of 10.1 to use the Model View as it relies on the unique features found in Oracle Database 10g.
SQL> select name, value, description from v$parameter where name ='compatible';
You should see 10.1, not 9.2 or earlier.
5) Please refer to the patchnote.htm that is bundled with 10.1.0.4.0 patch set. Only you are aware of what type of database configuration you have. You will want to pay close attention to "7.2.1.3 Set the SHARED_POOL_SIZE and JAVA_POOL_SIZE Initialization Parameters" and "7.2.2 Upgrade the Release 10.1 Database".
Basically, I believe you have missed these required steps after installing the 10.1.0.4.0 patch set from the OUI: (pasted from the patchnote.htm)

• Where to find Analytic Workspace Manager for Oracle9i?

Hi,
I am looking for Analytic Workspace Manager for Oracle 9i. Could someone point me to the place it can be downloaded? On Oracle OTN there are only versions 10g and 11g. I couldn't find it on Metalink either.
Why I need so old version? We are about to upgrade our existing installation from 9i and I need it to see what's inside in our Oracle 9i database (9.2.0.6) before going into 10g.
Or maybe it is possible to use AWM 10g against database 9i? This would solve my problems.
Is it possible to upgrade analytic workspaces from oracle 9i into 10g with analytic workspace manager 10g?
Best wishes
Tomasz Michniewski

Hello Laura,
Well, I was looking for this 9i version of AWM, and I was even thinking that AWM does not exist for 9i. Especially that in 9i documentation AWM is not mentioned.
But in the meantime I have found some install from some our backup cd-rom. It says:
# Analytic Workspace Manager : 9.2.0.4.1
# DATE: September 26, 2003
# Platform Patch for : platform independent
# Product Version # : 9.2.0.4.1
# Product : Analytic Workspace Manager
# Platforms
# Analytic Workspace Manager uses a platform independent install and
# has been approved on the following platforms:
# - Windows NT 4.0, 2000 & XP
# - Solaris 32 & 64-bit
# - Linux 32-bit
# - AIX 64-bit
# - HP-UX 64-bit
# - Tru64
# Requirements
# The Analytic Workspace Manager client requires the following Oracle9i
# Database configuration:
# - Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 Enterprise Edition Database
# - RDBMS 9.2.0.4.0 patch set (PS# 3095277)
# - OLAP 9.2.0.4.1 patch (PS# 3084634)
So is it the AWM for 9i?
Best wishes,
Tomasz Michniewski

• Analytic Workspace Manager now available on OTN

The Analytic Workspace Manager can now be downloaded from OTN at http://otn.oracle.com/software/htdocs/devlic.html?http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/olap/awm920.zip. It's 217MB and i've got it downloading now...
It requires the 9.2.0.4.1 patch which can be downloaded from Metalink, using patch number 3084634
To apply the 9.2.0.4.1 patch, you also need to have installed the 9.2.0.4 database patch beforehand, which can be downloaded from metalink using patch number 3095277.
regards
Mark

I've managed to install the AWM + requisite patches now, and it's converting a relational star schema as I speak. Some points to note (not all steps listed here BTW)
1. I first applied the 9.2.0.4 patch to an existing 9.2.0.1 database installation, which was installed alongside 9iAS R2, 9iDS, OWB9.2 and 9.0.4, and Express Server 6.3.4. The installer failed at an early stage with a 'resource bundle' error, and therefore I removed all Oracle software from my laptop, reinstalled just the Database 9.0.2.0.1, and started again from there.
2. Follow the steps in the readme to drop the XMLCONCAT function, shutdown the database, and stop all services (including the database) in the ORACLE_HOME. Make sure you exit out of SQL*Plus before moving on.
2. Run the 9.2.0.4 patch installer, install the new OUI, then install the 9.2.0.4 patch.
3. Find the init.ora file (in my case named init.ora.962003152553 and located in C:/9ir2/admin/markr/pfile), and amend the file setting java_pool_size and shared_pool_size > 150M. You may need to set sga_max_size to a figure that is greater than these two amounts to fit this in. The figures I used were;
sga_max_size=500000000
java_pool_size=160554432
large_pool_size=8388608
shared_pool_size=160331648
4. Startup the listener (lsnrct start), and the database (using 'startup migrate)
5. set spool on, then run catpatch.sql
6. run @ %ORACLE_HOME%/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
7. Unlock the OLAPSYS account, then connect as OLAPSYS, then run @ %ORACLE_HOME%/cwmlite/admin/postamd.sql. When I ran this script, I got an error saying that a column I tried to add ('IS_AGGREGATABLE') already existed, but the rest of the script ran ok.
8. I then unzipped the 9.2.0.4.1 patchset
9. Run the One-Off patch that comes with the 9.2.0.4.1 patchset (in the /oneoffs directory) before you install the main 9.2.0.4.1 patch
10. Once this has installed, start up the OUI that comes with Oracle 9i and select the products.jar file that comes with the patch. Install the patch as normal.
11. cd $ORACLE_HOME/olap/admin, then connect as sqlplus "/ as sysdba", then run @olapu92041.sql
12. Now the patches have all installed, unzip the awm920.zip file to a directory, run the installer, and the AWM will appear under the '%ORACLE_HOME%/Integrated Management Tools' start menu entry.
I'm now in the process of trying to create an analytic workspace. I've submitted the COST_CUBE from the SH schema that comes with 9iR2 for conversion, although from what I understand this will not convert properly, and it has to be replaced by the BIBDEMO schema that comes with the BI Beans 9.0.3 download (http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/bib/download.html). The conversion's at 55% at the moment, so i'll see how it goes, and report back.

• 9i Analytical workspace manager

Hi,
I read somewhere that Oracle is bringing out a GUI tool called ' Analytical Workspace Manager' to manage the analytical workspaces, similar to OEM. Is this tool available? If yes, where can I get an evaluation copy of it? If not, is there any plan to bring it soon and when?
Thanks for your help.
Suresh

hi
it should be out soon.
regarding the licence: you dont need a "evaluation copy", it will be release as a patch via metalink.
so just keep patient ;)
