Workspace panels- layers won't Anchor

In my workspace for Photoshop CS6 I've always had various windows (Adjustments, History, Layers, etc.) anchored in fixed positions on the right of the PhS window..
All of a sudden my Layers window has become an unattached, floating window that stays in the same position if I move the PhS window.

I should let your instructors handling the teaching, but if there's something and they are not around or you run into a technical glitch, drop by and we will see what we can do. As a bonus, the Senior Photoshop Programmer, Staff members and MVPs are usually around. But this is basically a user to user forum.
Some questions are simple enough, but some require details. To save time and encourage answers, here is a handy guide:
"The more information you supply about your situation, the better equipped other community members will be to answer. Consider including the following in your question:
Adobe product and version number
Operating system and version number
The full text of any error message(s)
What you were doing when the problem occurred
Screenshots of the problem
Computer hardware, such as CPU; GPU; amount of RAM; etc."

  • Lightroom 3 and PSE10 layers won't work?

    I recently purchased Lightroom 3 and installed on my computer running Windows 7.  I already had Photoshop Elements 10 installed and that and Nikon Capture NX2 were what I used for editing.  PSE8 is also still installed on my computer.  When I choose to send a photo from LR3 to PSE10 for editing, all the layers choices are grayed out.  I have searched, I promise, but have not found the answer for these two combinations.  Can someone help me please?  Thank you.  All the versions are updated.

    Thanks. That did it.  Now, if I could figure out about a thousand other things, I'd be all set!

    Elements doesn't support much functionaliy in 16-bit mode.  Switch to 8-bit.

  • ID CS3 won't hold workspace panel positions

    Hi,
    I set up a workspace with all open panels on a second monitor, to the right of my main monitor. I saved it as the default w'space but the next time I open ID, the leftmost panels (which are located on the left edge of the monitor) have moved to the right about one inch and overlap the next set of panels. I move them back and resave wspace but next time I open they've moved again.
    Any advice would be most helpful
    Jon

    Why not try removing the plug-in? If the problem goes away after that, you'll know that's the solution to your problem. If it doesn't, you can re-install the plug-in.

  • Panel bin won't stay closed

    hi all -
    I upgraded from 7 to 9 mainly because 7 developed lots of technical flaws.  For right now, I want the good things about 7 to be carried forward into 9.  I haven't delved into what's new in PSE 9.   So I suspect I'll be posting a lot of these rather trivial questions.
    At the right side of the Editor screen there is the "panel bin," (containing the efffects, layers, etc.)  In PSE 7 I closed it (by clicking on a little arrow right on the border between the bin and the workspace).  That was my default, and I opened it up when i needed it.
    With PSE 9, I've been having to close it each and every time I load the work space, and now the closing is done by Window>panel bin.  So it seems that having an open panel bin is now the default.
    What am I missing?  How can I close the panel and have it stay closed until I need it?

    Hi,
    Try this.
    With the panel open, click on the three dots at the middle of the line separating the panel from the thumbnails - that should close the panel to the right side. I think it should stay closed until you next click on the three dots to open the panel.
    Good luck
    Brian
    oops sorry, that was for the organizer and you wanted the editor
    In the Editor, the tab key can be used to close/open the panel.

  • Layers won't collapse or open

    Illustrator running very slowly, problem with layers. Nothing happens when clicking on triangles to open and collapse layers. Can turn them on and off by clicking the eye. Can also create new layers and delete things. What should I do?
    Working in windows 7, but switching between personal Mac OSX. Both running Illustrator CS6 trial version with vectorscribe plugin. Also using wacom intuos 4 tablet. Have intermittently saved as .pdf. Problem first occured when working on mac.

    I see blank thumbnails, if you had them off then there woudl be no thumbnails, so guessing you have a redraw problem on the thumbnmails..
    Try playing with these settings from your layers palettete flyout >> panel options. Enable top level only, or turn off layers entirely and see what happens.
    Illustrator is pretty fast for drawign thumbnails for layers, so you may have a corrupt object in the document, or font issue.

  • Panel options won't save globally

    Hi, Im using illustrator cs5 with macbook pro i7  osx lion
    I opened the document profile -  print.ai  because I wanted to change my panel options in layers and then save it so that for convenience whenever I open  a print document again the panel options will be there without having to change but it doesnt work as it should.     I followed a tutorial at lynda.com to do this.   It said open print.ai from bridge, change panel options to new size etc, save then open new document and choose print from options and the new panel options should be apparent but as I said they are not, they just revert to old.   Anyone know why?

    Ive tried save and save as.    I had no trouble changing the size either but as said I want it to be default for print doc profile.   However when opening new file and selecting print as doc profile the thumbnail size  does not seem to have been saved
    Are you clear on what Im doing.  Opening print.ai    document profile - change thumbnail size in layer panel options- save.   Open new document choose print from new document profile.   This new document should then have the new thumbnail size but it doesnt??

  • Workspace/panel issue

    I just downloaded Flash CS5 for mac which installed without any errors. However, when I first launched the software I am getting the following error:
    The following panel layout is missing or could not be read:
    /users/rob/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/Workspace/Essentials.xml
    The application will not have a correct layout. Please load one from Windows ->Workspace
    Once past this message none of the panels load. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this.
    Many thanks in advance

  • Links Panel - Links won't delete nor can I "Go to Link" to find the image

    The current problem that I am encountering is under these circumstances:
    PC - Win XP Pro SP3
    InDesign CS4 (Design Premium Package)
    102 Page Document
    1115 Links, 33 which will not delete
    My problem that I am having is that my links panel is showing links which I want to remove for organizational purposes but can't seem to find them in the document.  Typically I would select the link within the links panel then choose "Go to Link" which would locate the link/file in the document.  For some reason this locates nothing.  I have also noticed that within the panel, there is nothing within the value field for "Page" such as a number or "<PB>" for Paste Board.
    Has anyone encountered this?  If not, your suggestions will be appreciated.  Again, I simply want to remove these for organizational purposes and have less clutter.
    -Jeremy

    Peter, can you help with a similar case? I'm having the same problem but my Structure shows nothing in InDesign (CS4). I created a thread asking for help but havne't recelved any responses.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3426684?tstart=0
    Based on my research it sounds like there are two different problems: 1) breaking links to files with a "page" of "< >", and 2) deleting links to files with a page of "DT". This tip seemed to solve my problem of breaking links to "DT" files, but I'm still unable to find a solution for ones linking to "< >".
    I've tried Relinking files but the page ref stays the same no matter what image I link to. Copy Links To likewise makes a copy of the original image but leaves the page ref the same. In all instances the images can be opened using Edit Original, but I have no idea how to get the links themselves out of the document without being able to go to the object in layout!
    Opening with InCopy (CS4) does yield some information in the structure, but nothing that seems to be helpful. There are no changes to be accepted or rejected here so there has to be another way to get that info out of the document.
    Any ideas? I can PM you with a copy of the file if that helps!

  • Java Control Panel applet won't run

    I am running Windows 2000 Server and I need to import a certificate into the certificate database. Both the jpicpl32.cpl and jpicpl32.exe fail to run. When I try to execute either of them they launch an instance of javaw.exe (confirmed in the task manager) but the interface never comes up. Java Web Start misbehaves in the same way.
    I am using JRE 1.4.2_04 and I have uninstalled and reinstalled it without solving the problem. One possible issue is that the person who did the initial install of the JRE moved the directory to a different drive after the installation was complete. When I discovered this I edited the windows registry and changed all of the pointers to the new location. That did not help and that is when I uninstalled and reinstalled the JRE.
    I have found several messages in this forum indicating similar problems with prior versions of the JRE but none of them had any replies (except for some who said they were having the same problem). I have also searched the web but all that I can find is information on how to troubleshoot java applications, not the JRE itself.

    I have been working on a project rolling out J2RE1.4.1_02 onto approximately 100 pc's. Half of them are Windows 2000 laptops and the other half use Windows XP sp1 (a few with SP2) Desktops varying in spec. To date I have yet to have this issue on the Windows 2000 laptops. Of the 50 XP machines, so far I have encountered this problem on 20 of them.
    I used almost every method described in the forums as well as loads of other options to resolve the hanging of javaw.exe. We havent rolled out the application that requires this JRE version yet and I am only trying to run the Java contol panel to change user settings.
    At first I thought it was conflicting software, so I uninstalled package by package. Halfway through, the console worked, but on reboot, did not work again. I eventually figured out that once you install JRE and it does not work, just log off and then on again without rebooting and it starts to work. We cannot give this as a solution to our users. I also edited the registry removing all refrences to any other java files after uninstalling all java related apps. Re-installing after this did not fix it either. I tried to avoid using Javaw.exe by chaning the path in the registry to java.exe, but this did not work either.
    Sometimes I could get Java Web Start working, but not the control panel, then when i could get the control panel working, java web start wouldnt work. These 20 machines were part of our original image of XP that was rolled out. The other 30 machines are a slightly newer build but have the same applications. Do you think it could be a way the group policies are applied? They are local policies as we are still building our 2003 servers and I set everything to 'not configured' but it still did not change anything. If I rebuild the image and install all their apps, it works fine. But i would like to avoid rebuilding 20 PC's. I have already rebuilt 10 of them and hate using that as a solution. The group policy settings were initially created by one team and then later a second team created our new image that we use. So it may be just a configuration that the first team have implemented or locked down that the second team did not.
    What is strange is that it doesnt run on first boot up, but does run after logging off and on again. Somebody in one of the other forums mentioned that it may have something to do with explorer.exe, but i doubt it. I am exasperated and would appreciate any ideas I have not tried.
    Thanks guys,
    Kerri

  • Panel size won't "stick" when restarting LR.

    I want the left hand panel to be MUCH bigger so I can see more of my folder names. I can re-size it, but when I close and re-open LR, it returns the panel size to the original default size. Is there a way to get the re-sized panel to stay that way across LR re-starts?
    On a related topic, at the moment, even with the left panel at the largest size I can make it, my folder/sub-folder structure results in part of the folder names being cut off. Is there any way to deal with this? Is there perhaps a way to get the font to be a bit smaller so that I can use longer folder names without having them cut off?
    Thanks,
    Larry

    >In the preferences>interface>panel font size, make sure you have it >set on the smaller option
    I'm referring to the panel size, not the font size (although I would also like to be able to make the font size smaller than the "small" setting.)
    Zal posted about the problem I'm seeing, which appears to be a bug.
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • Photo Layers won't open in element 12, from Lightroom 5

    I have tried exporting photos into elements as layers (From Lightroom) , once elements opens, nothing is showing. Curious if I am doing something wrong. If I just open the photos in elements and put them as layeres  manually, it works fine. I was just under the assumption I could do it from light room as well.(the option is given hence the assumption) just as a sidenote I did change output from 16-8 bit in preferences, that didn't fix anything, just read that on another site

    Ok, what is your operating system and the exact Lightroom version...
    Also what does it show in Preferences under External Editing:

    I've created a class "highscores" which reads data from XML, i've used it before so this should work... i put all the data into a list and i want to display it in a panel which containts a label.
    but somehow the panel isn't visible, i tried a lot of things but it still doesn't work, anyone got tips?
    this is the code to attacj & display the panem to it's frame:
    private void HighScoresMenuActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
    mContent.removeAll();
    Ballkov_Highscores gamePanel = new Ballkov_Highscores();
    gamePanel.setFocusable(true);
    mContent.add(gamePanel);

    and this the code of the panel itself:

    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.util.ArrayList;

    public Ballkov_Highscores(){
    GetHighscores myGetHighscores = new GetHighscores();
    XmlHighscores = myGetHighscores.LeesScores("highscores.xml");
    JLabel Score_label = new JLabel();

    Ok_button.setLocation(50,50);
    Ballkov_Defaults myDefaults = new Ballkov_Defaults();
    Dimension framedimensie = new Dimension(myDefaults.getGAME_BREEDTE(),
    myDefaults.getGAME_HOOGTE());
    setPreferredSize(framedimensie);
    setVisible(true);
    public String ToString(){
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    for(int i=0; i < XmlHighscores.size() ; i++) {
    sb.append(((Player)XmlHighscores.get(i)).toString());
    sb.append( "\n" );
    return sb.toString();
    }

  • Cannot resize some workspace panels. CS3

    My
    COLOR,
    PARAGRAPH,
    EFFECTS,
    TABLE
    STROKE
    and possibly other panels no longer have the resize handle in the lower right corner. They are free floating and are not docked grouped or attached. They now have about 1 inch of wasted gray space to the right. I can't stand these huge menus taking up screen real estate.
    I cannot get the panels to resize no matter if they are grouped or docked together.
    What can I do to get these panels smaller?

    Try trashing your prefs.

  • How do I move a workspace panel?

    Is there an easy way to move a panel? Click and dragging to a new position does nothing.
    Thanks!

    Hello wangshifeng,
    what are you interested in exactly?
    DuplicateCtrl is a standard function in User Interface Library of CVI you should have no problems to find. Regarding the copy, it' simply a copy- or cut-and-paste operation that you perform exactly as you do e.g. in Office or Paint, with the difference that here you select user controls instead of pieces of text or so.
    If you have more specific questions or other doubts please add some details on what you are trying to do and what you want to obtain.
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
