Workspace resets

Occasionally my workspace resets to the default layout, even though my custom one is selected. Re-selecting the custom one brings it back, but the next time I use photoshop, there's a fairly good chance that I'll need to do it again. (Minor issue, but just curious)

Make sure you properly quit photoshop before you shut down your computer. Photoshop saves the preferences files as it is quitting, so if you shut down your computer without first quitting Photoshop, it may not get a chance to properly write those preferences files.

  • Why do I have to reset workspace everytime I start premiere pro cc 2014?

Since the latest update my situation with premiere have been bad to say the least; random crashes for no spceific reasons, adobe media encoder doesnt start or when it starts i cant encode anything with it.
And the most annoying part is this:
Everytime i start premiere it opens up with this useless workspace. Of course i can go to window/workspace/reset current..
It also has different timelines opened everytime i open the same projects. I dont know whats going on..
I´ve done a complete removal with the adobe cleaner tool, removed my preference files etc. it worked normally for 30 minutes. and now its back to where i was before..
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Simon,
Did you already manage to fix this problem? I have the exact same issue and it's driving me nuts. Started when I updated a few days/weeks (can't remember) ago.
Unchecking 'Import Workspace from Projects' didn't work. Also, I've tried deleting workspaces etc. but that didn;t work either.
By the way; how many displays are you using on what videocard? Maybe that's an issue? I have 3 monitors on a GTX680 4Gb. Working on Windows 8.1.

I saved your preset Workspace and it does nothing.
I want to make it look like this:

    Hi,
See if going to Window>Workspace>Reset Workspace works.
Also, you can press the Green Maximize button after resetting the workspace to fit the photoshop window to the desktop.
That button on the bottom you pressed is to change screen modes:

  • Change workspace via applescript?

I'm constantly switching between hooking my laptop to a big monitor and working on its internal screen in a cafe or whatever. And I'm getting really tired of constantly having to do "window->workspace->some workspace" followed by "window->workspace->reset workspace" whenever I switch contexts.
I've got some other scripts firing off when I hook up to my monitor, or disconenct from it, thanks to ControlPlane - but I can't get a script working to change Illustrator's workspace.
I've tried a simple bit of Applescript, based on what I find in Illustrator's dictionary, but it doesn't work -
    set targetWorkspace to "Megapalette Compact!"
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
         switch workspace "Megapalette Compact!"
         reset workspace
    end tell
This looks like it should work, but i just get "required value missing". Has anyone gotten this script command to actually work?

I was able to get it to work by using some Javascript to do the actual workspace switching. Hooray, now I never need to do "window->workspace->workspace too big to fit on my laptop screen" followed immediately by "window->workspace->reset workspace too big to fit on my laptop screen" ever again!
    set targetWorkspace to "Megapalette!"
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
         do javascript ("switchWorkspace ('" & targetWorkspace & "');")
         reset workspace
    end tell

  • How do I customize the workspace in Captivate 8?

I've just installed Captivate 8. I want to customize the workspace but I can't save my settings. The option that the Help file describes (Window>>Workspace>>New Workspace) isn't in my version of the software. All I see is Workspace>>Reset "Classic"

Rick points to Expert mode, but you have to be aware that there are no workspaces provided anymore in CP8. In expert mode you can create custom workspaces besides the Classic which is the only one left. Still, some possibilities are gone (hoping not for ever ): you cannot reduce a panel to an icon, you cannot move the BBB toolbar (that replaced the vertical toolbox), nor the Align toolbar, both are fixed and take up valuable space at the top of the screen. Other panels can be moved to different docking stations or made floatable.

  • Any Ideas Why Workspace Won't Work?

Okay, so it's been bugging me too long to simply continue ignoring the problem... and even still after updating all of the CS6 applications, the problem of the Workspace always being messed up every time I launch CS6 Photoshop 13.0.1 x64 Extended on my Win 7 64-bit machine persists. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
To help communicate the problem and better understand it, I've prepared this series of screen captures.
The two Workspaces used in these experiments were 1) VKB's Workspace, a preexisting Saved workspace and 2) Essentials, the preexisting workspace defined by Adobe.
The experiments consisted of launching the application, observing that the workspace was messed up (Exhibits A, C, D and E), then Resetting the Workspace, closing the application and then opening it again.
During the course of these experiments I updated the (3) CS6 applications that the updater indicated had available updates, one of which was PS. The announcement on the page (http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/general) indicated 13.0.1.1 was available, but after updates were install, PS reports what I thought I remembered seeing earlier; i.e., 13.0.1 (and not 13.0.1.1). Restarted the system, system would not shut down, would not restart, no video signal, had to give it the finger and force hard restart. Launched PS app, did another check for updates - all apps up to date.
Began experiments anew - nothing different - Workspace still doesn't work like it always had behaved up until when this issue first presented... maybe a month or three weeks ago - not really sure exactly when.
The Resetting was done from both the menu Window, Workspace, Reset route and the afforded pull down option (upper right corner).
Additionally, during the experiments I created a new workspace, also named VKB's Workspace, replaced the earlier one, more experiments, more of the same problem.

    Any ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Kelly

  • Opened premiere and no windows are opening--but the file audio will play as if the video playback window is functioning. I've tried resetting my work space setting several times and it still will not give me any visual. Any idea how to find a way to view

I've even reset my computer a few times and no go.
Where could my editing windows be hiding?

if you have an intel hd graphics:  when creating a new project set the renderer to software only. if you have a project open, from the menu, File>Project Settings>General  and change the setting there.  the "Program Monitor" window will be the one that displays your timeline.  if you are on the "editing" workspace, resetting it from the menu should give you the program monitor in the top right corner.

  • Default workspace settings

I'm just starting to work with Keynote and like many of its features. However, I can't figure out how to set workspace defaults, such as showing the rulers, presenter notes and master slides (to name a few). Everytime I open a presentation, I'm having to go through the step of clicking on those items, which is pretty annoying. Lots of wasted time. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?
ALSO- Can anyone tell me whether there is a way to change the layout of the slides + presenter notes printouts? For example, I'd like to reduce the size of the slide graphic so that more notes will fit on the page, but I can't figure out how to do it.
I did a search and couldn't find an answer to these- sorry if they've been covered. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Try clicking on ESSENTIALS near the upper-right of the Photoshop window.  You can also try Window - Workspace - Reset Essentials.
When you did Control-Alt-Shift, did you get Photoshop to prompt you to delete your preferences?  If it didn't prompt, you weren't quick enough.  You have to get those keys down a tiny fraction of a second after you cold-start Photoshop.

  • Encore CS 5 workspace on Macbook Pro

    Thanks in advance...
Is there a simple way to reset the workspace on a Macbook Pro?  For the life of me I cannot seem to find a solution?
    Thanks

    Did    Window->Workspace->Reset "<workspace name>"...    not help you ?
    Thanks,

  • Is there a menu to reset perspective in flash professional cs5?

The windows are in a mess now, is there a button/menu that can reset the view so that it looks like what it's like originally?

From top menu list select Window > Workspace > Reset...
You can also choose from multiple different layouts available or create your own and save. Refer to the below link for more details:

  • Painted layers distorted after clicking "Reset Standard"

I am working on an animation using After Effects CS6, which includes painting over layers at specific frames.  I accidentally "x"d out my composition window, which I read could be restored by selecting "Window>Workspace>Reset Standard".  But when I did that, the layers I painted over were distorted.  The original unpainted parts of the layer are not where they are supposed to be, with only the marks I made to paint over the layer in their "proper place", and the parts I erased are back again.  I tried quitted without saving, throwing out a few hours of work, but that didn't help.  I own a Mac.  Is there any way I can recover from this, at least to revert the original layers back to normal?
Here's a visual of one of the layers.  The "face" shown is the original file from photoshop and it has shifted to the left for some reason.  It should be positioned where the three splotches on the right are (those splotches are the edits I made using the paint tool on top of the layer).  Please help, I worked months on this and I can't afford to lose everything.

If there's no way to undo this, someone please just tell me that there's no way to undo this.
Or at least offer better alternatives than "Reset Standard" to bring the composition window back WITHOUT screwing up the layers, or tell me how to manipulate certain parts of layers like the parts above so that I can fix the layers easily (if that's even possible).

  • Workspace help (CS2)

I have been using InDesign CS2 (Windows XP) for years.  Until about two weeks ago (when my husband spent some time on my computer to edit a document, so maybe he hit a stray key), the document window has always been a "window", able to be moved and resized.  It would always start out quite large (perhaps as big as it could be, I'm not sure), going underneath all the panes I keep open, and that was indeed annoying, but I got used to grabbing the right edge of it in a small gap between a couple panes and dragging the edge leftward until the window was in the clear.  But now, there is nothing to grab, like a window that is maximized.  I don't know the exact terms for this stuff because I use the Japanese version, but hopefully you know what I mean.  I can provide screenshots if necessary.
I have a two-monitor system - in the case of InDesign I typically like to keep the application window filling all of the left monitor and about half the right one, with panes all arranged on the right portion and only the document and the toolbar on the left.  Some of my panes are floating (so if I move the application window, they don't follow) and others are sort of attached to the right edge of the application window.  I suppose that I could make all of them floating and then shrink the application window such that all the panes are outside it, but I would prefer to have everything together so it's easy to see what is part of InDesign and what is something else.  The only way I can find to get the document window to become a window again is to select Window -> Arrange -> Cascade (even though there is only one document window open).  The resulting window starts out a weird shape (short in height but still very wide), but then I can grab the edges and resize it.  But every time I open a document, the process starts all over again - there seems to be no way to save my document window size as part of the workspace or anything like that.  Can someone share some clues?  What might have happened recently to change its behavior, and can I change it back?  (Or do you have other recommendations on how I should arrange my workspace?)

Resetting the workspace (I assume that's what on my menu is Window -> Workspace -> [Default] ) didn't have any effect on the document window, but because it rolled up all the panes on the right edge (something I never normally do), it caused me to look closer at things near the right edge, and I noticed a set of three little gray buttons in the upper right corner for minimizing, windowizing, and closing the document window - they aren't there when the window is in window mode (because they are on the actuall, which is how it had been for all these years, and during this couple weeks I hadn't noticed them.  So Peter gets a Helpful Answer award just for indirectly getting my eyes in the right spot.  And that setting (the state of being windowed or maximized) does remain for the next time I open a document.
So now I'm back to how it worked before.  So if this is all we accomplish, I'm happy.  But since we're on the subject, is there a way to get the default size of the document window to be smaller than it is?  With the workspace reset, the only thing covering up the document is the toolbar, but I have a variety of panes I like to keep open besides the ones that fold up on the edge.  I guess if you always roll up/close a pane when you're not using it, it's okay, but is that the way everyone works?  If I only had one monitor I might do it that way, but I have room to spread out the stuff I use a lot, so...

  • Saved workspaces never work

I have a thunderbolt display monitor at work and at home that I plug my MacPro Retina into. Photoshop and After Effects never seem to be able to put my windows and palettes in the right place when I start them up. The layers palette for example is often off the screen. Why is it so hard for the program to know where my monitor positions are? I have to keep saving Work 1, Work 2, Work 3 etc.

Photoshop's workspaces are a bit complex...  Not only can you set up a named workspace with panels, etc. laid out just the way you want, but then as you use Photoshop the workspace strives to remember your ongoing changes.  What some don't realize is that you can set it back to precisely the workspace you saved by choosing:
Window - Workspace - Reset XXXXXX
Where XXXXXX is your named workspace.
If you reset your named workspace, does it bring back the saved positioning of your desktop elements?
Also, I suspect there may be a Mac setting that's helping muddy things up, based on other posts, but I know little of the OSX specifics myself as I use a PC.  I have read here that others sometimes find reconfiguring System Preferences - Mission Control - Displays have separate spaces can be helpful.

  • How to recover my PS workspace?

I have squashed my PS workspace. How do I get it back to the way it was. I would really appreciate some help.

    Hi Maria,
If I understand correctly, you say that you've 'messed' up your workspace in Photoshop.
To reset your workspace, open Photoshop > Window > Workspace > Reset Workspace (whatever workspace name that you want to reset)
If this is not what you intended for, please post a screenshot of what your workspace looks like now so we'll get a better understanding of what you're trying to do.
