Workspace reverts to Essentials on opening Photoshop CS4

On MacBook Pro, Photoshop CS4 Extended:
Every time I open Photoshop, the workspace is "Essentials," not the workspace I have set up for myself. I would like to open with my saved workspace active, not "Essentials." This works fine with my PPC desktop Mac.
Any suggestions on how I can get my customized workshop to be the "default?"
Thank you.

Buko:
It doesn't crash at all. That's one of the reasons this is so strange.
Yes, I can load the workspace, if I understand what you mean by "load." After PS opens and gives me "Essentials" for the workspace, I can go Window>Workspace and select the workspace I've created. But when I quit PS and then restart PS, "Essentials" is the workspace again.

Have the program installed on only one computer.

Download the Adobe Licensing Repair Tool.
    Run the License Service Update.
Mac OS X 10.7 and above:
    a. Double-click the LicenseRecovery111.dmg   It will extract the folder. Open the folder.
    b. Double-click your Hard Drive.
    c. Double-click Applications.
    d. Double-click Utilities.
    e. Double-click Terminal.
    f. Type sudo python
Note: There is a space following “python”. Do not press Return.
    g. Drag LicenseRecover.py from the LicenseRecovery111 folder onto the Terminal Window and press Return.
    It should look like this:
    h. Enter your administrator user name and password when prompted and click OK.
(Note: the cursor will not move and you will not see stars or dots, just enter your password anyway.
    i. Let the script run, it will tell you when it is finished. Quit terminal and restart Photoshop

Do you use your Vaio Update for updates, kingdom? If so, check in there to see if you're also up to date on your video card drivers and BIOS. (Your downloads page at Sony UK shows some updates for those there, so we'd better check on them too.)

  • Opening Photoshop CS4

I'm sure someone at Adobe thought this was a great idea, but I find it annoying as hell.
How do you configure Photoshop CS4 on a MAC to open with a BACKGROUND workspace. Mine opens showing my desktop which is annoying as...oh yeah, I already said that.
I've look on the preferences menu, but I should know by now that Adobe NEVER puts things where they would be found intuitively.
    Thanks for any help!
    John

The tone of your post and your attitude sucks! But I will answer your question anyway.
Adobe had nothing to do with it. that is how Macs work most of us on the Mac prefer it that way because it speeds up our work flow.
Adobe was nice enough to include an application frame for the whiney Windows users who switched over to Mac in CS4 Window > Application frame. Right where you would think it would be.
I hope this information improves your feelings.

  • Cannot open Photoshop CS4 files using Photoshop 7

Hi - I would be very grateful if anyone has solved this problem before and can help me.
I am trying to send a smallish (5 Mb) layered CMYK Photoshop file from my version (CS4) to someone who is still using Photoshop 7 but they are completely unable to open it. I have saved it using 'Maximize Compatibility' and there are just 3 layers, no fancy layer effects, no layer sets, and each layer has a transparent background. Every time the other person tries to open it (via File -> Open), their Photoshop hangs and they have to force quit. It will open in Graphic Converter but it is then saved as a flattened image which is no good. I'm at my wits' end what to do to get this to open in PS7 - does anyone have any ideas?
    I am using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac Pro, OS X 10.6.3; they are using Photoshop 7 on a G4 867 DP, OS X 10.4.11.
    Thanks very much -
    Deb.

If anyone else should come across this sort of problem, here's the scoop:
It's a metadata parsing bug in Photoshop 7 and CS/8 (version 3-6 no problem, version 9-12 no problem).  It is caused by the history metadata in the file, possibly because of the length of the history, possibly because of the InDesign history bits.  I don't have a MacOS 10.1 system avaialble to debug Photoshop 7 any more, so I can't be positive about the exact cause.  But we know that Photoshop CS2 and later work just fine.
If you wait 30 minutes, Photoshop 7 does eventually load the file.  But that hurts productivity.
The history metadata can't easily be deleted in Photoshop (or ImageReady, Fireworks, etc.).  But if you copy the layers to a new document, the history metadata won't be carried over.  Save the copy, and that copy will work just fine in Photoshop 7 and CS/8.

  • Lightroom opens Photoshop CS4 for edit but file doesn't open

I have tried looking for this thread but have not found it... 447 threads are a lot to scan...
When I try to edit a Lightroom 2.3 file in Photoshop CS4 Extended, Photoshop launches but the file does not open (same for all other edit options: layers, pano, etc.) and the follows box appears in Lightroom: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS4 could not be launched"...
I have Windows XP Home Edition with SP3... over 3GB Ram... and all current Adobe updates...

Ah, now in that case this is where you'll find everything that you need to know, including access to the download. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4579
Having said that, with a Mac doesn't Camera Raw install automatically from within CS4 by choosing Update from within the Help menu?
Oh, and another thing. If you open CS4, go up to Help, from the drop-down choose About > Camera Raw. If it indicates 5.5 then the raw plug-in is already installed in the correct location. It won't show if it's not installed in the correct location.

  • Open Photoshop CS4 Extended

  • When I open Photoshop CS4, Terms & Condition comes up and does not open after accepting.

I have adobe Photoshop CS4 that I used only 2 or 3 times. When I try to open it this time, by clicking on the program icon, it starts a Terms & Condition Window with Cancel decline or Accept. clicking any one of these three choices would not open the Photoshop. What do you think is the problem. I may not know much about Photoshop but I am a computer savy. Feel free whatever level of computer/software you want to use. I just need a solution.
Thank you for all of you people's efforts.

  • Bridge keeps trying to open photoshop cs4 and not cc2014

I uninstalled my old Photoshop CS4 after CC 2014 was installed and bridge keeps looking for it. I cannot find the setting in ACR or Bridge to tell it where the CC 2014 executable is, instead. Am on a Windows 7 PC.

It could also be your file associations in bridge cc are set to photoshop cs2.
    In Bridge CC
    Edit>Preferences>File Type Associations

    What can I do

    Hi there,
I'm very sorry you're having issues opening Photoshop. There is a special help page just for this error here. Additionally, there is an older thread where a user found the Licensing Repair Tool (located here) to fix this issue. Give it a try! I hope this helps.

  • This is the error I was getting. unable to open photoshop CS4 on my mac, the message "application co

I was getting an error on my iMac computer when trying to open up CS4. I deleted the files and reinstalled 3 times and still getting error and unable to upload file. Please help. I have done the steps that the customer care site told me to, but still errors!

If you deleted files it is not a good thing.  You need to uninstall, run the adobe script cleaner, then reinstall.

  • Unable to open photoshop CS4 on my mac, the message "application components are missing" appears

I had a recent virus, which im lead to belive has deleted some application components from the application directory.
I no longer have the disk to re-install the application, as this was given to me as a gift.
How am i able to re-cover my Adobe photoshop CS4?

If the giver of the gift didn’t give you their serial number, then they didn’t give you CS4 permanently.
You can try running the BelArc Security Advisor which will ferret out serial numbers of various products, but if the computer has been cleaned sufficiently, the information may no longer be on the computer for BelArc to find:

  • Error when opening Photoshop CS4

I own a new dell laptop with Window 7 OS. About 1 month after I installed Adobe CS4, I started getting an error everytime I opened up Photoshop: "Photoshop has encountered a problems with the display driver, and has temporarily disbled GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for the latest software."
I contacted Dell to see why I was getting that error. The technical support staff at Dell was unable to figure it out and said I needed to contact you. Do you know why I would get this error 1 month after I installed it?
    Cindee

Many laptops do not have very good video adaptors and yours may not meet the demands of CS4 in terms of OpenGL performance.
This could cause the error message. Try updating the video drivers and if that doesn't help, disable OpenGL in Edit > Preferences > Performance.
