Workstation Application

Hi Guru's
We are using Windows vista.I want to define new Workstation application.
For Excel : xlsx & Word : docx
Pls let me know what are all the steps involved to create a new workstation application..
Kindly explain me briefly..

Can you pls tell me what has to be defined in "Define Workstation Application in network"
In Define Workstation Application in network you setup how the file will be behave when you display, change or print.
As Data carr. type you set PC
As Application type you define the setting for display, change and print. E.g. you will have three lines one for display, one for change and one for print.
In most cases you set Path with prog. name to %AUTO%. In your case it would be preferred to set %SAP-OFFICE-INTEGRATION.INPLACE%. This will open the file in SAP and not in the stand alone application.
Path for ref. file can you leave blank.

    When I am viewing the original redlining function activated, content version- both are  working for this PDF workstation.
    For same doc. type I could able to view for other workstation applications.
    What went wrong ?
    Does any other customization affect this ?

    Hi Pradeep,
    ECL Viewer is working fine. For that reason only I could able to view Auto CAD drawings even though I don't have auto CAd facility in my PC.
    For my understanding how to Reinstall the viewer with the latest version and check.

  • Easy DMS and workstation application

    Hi all,
    We are using Easy DMS. Each time we copy a file from e.g. my documents we need to choose the workstation application. As long as we only use Easy DMS I do not see the point of it... Is it possible to avoid? If is not? What do I need to customize to make it work properly? Directly from DMS when I try to display the file I get an error saying that this file does not have a program which can execute the function.

    Hi Camilla,
    please check SAP note 918039 and create the FM 'Z_EASYDMS_GETWS_APPLICATIONS'. Please follow exactly the mentioned steps in the note and then EasyDMS should take the settings from DC30 transaction in the backend automatically. So please create this function module and after activating it, the application should be selected automatically.
    Please also reset the RFC Cache in EasyDMS.
    Additionally please verify that in transaction DC30 the correct entries for the different file formats are maintained.

    i have few questioon:
    1. How to stop the users to rename the file while downloading from the DMS server
    2. folder strcuture: how to copy:???
    i made a folder structur, for a project..............now i have one more project, now i want to copy the folder structure of the earlier project...............(only folder str ....no documents to follow)...how to do this?
    3. for workstation application: how can i use "define template for orginal file": here, what is source file and wht is source document...........................................need more clarify here........

    1. DC30, Set flag, You can't Rename temaprory files.
    3. In the IMG activity Define workstation applications in network, you enter the data carrier type (for example, PC with Windows NT operating system), the workstation application (for example, Microsoft Word), and:
    The path for finding the source file in the file manager
    An entry for application type 2 (change), so that you can copy the original application file of the previous document version.
    or example, you can create a source file in application Microsoft Word to store a letter that already contains certain data (such as sender, address, and other text elements) and a style sheet.
    Whenever you create a new original application file in Microsoft Word from a document info record of the selected document type, the data in the source file is copied to the new original application file, where you can edit it. weiter bearbeitet werden.

  • No default workstation application TRM on applying SAP Note 1320374

    Hello Gurus,
    My question, as you can see in the title is that I'm trying to apply the SAP Note 1320374 and in the step B7 it sais that you have to go to this path,
    IMG--> Cross-Apllication Components -->Document Management --> Control Data --> Define Document Types
    and enter:
    Default Application: TRM
    Dis. WS Apllic. : TRM
    and some more data.
    And the question is that I don't have defined 'TRM' application in my system, so I've discovered that I can create that application by going in the spro to the path "Define Workstation Apllication" but i don't know the data I have to put on it.
    I would appreciate if someone let me know what is the necessary data on that application.

    Maybe if I put the full path where the Define Workstation Application is located, someone could check if has the entry TRM on it.
    Path: IMG--> Cross-Apllication Components -->Document Management --> General Data --> Define Workstation Application

  • DMS - workstation application

    Created a new workstation application as WMV to movie files having extension wmv. Using cv01n created a document and attached a word file and wmv file. When i searh and open the document for display/view only the word file is shown as attached, wmv file is not shown. But when i click on edit both the attached files are shown. Edit authorization is not given to all the users. What changes need to be done to showthe wmv attachement in view/display mode.

    Hi Atul,
    The reason for this behavior is propably that there is                   
    some profile maintained in your system which allows only the display     
    of some special application types and filters all the other in           
    display mode (CV03N). To correct this I would kindly ask you to          
    check the existing profiles in your system in the customizing under                                                                               
    - Cross Application Components                                           
        - Document Management System                                         
            - General Data                                                   
                - Define profile                                                                               
    In your case please select an existing profile and then go to            
    "Determine definitions for applications". There you will see the         
    profile key and the application type. To display all                     
    applications please weither delete all the maintain entries here or add  
    more applications and set the flag in the DISPLAY box.                                                                               
    Afterwards the original files should be displayed again in transaction   
    CV03N too.

    I mean, for a specific document type only XLS files are allowed?

    Hi Luis,
    yes you can define it in the customizing:
    Logistics - General - Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) - Document Management - Control Data - Define Document Types
    Select a document type and check details. There you can define a default WS application.
    If you define it to XLS and you do not assign XLS to any other document types then I think you can reach what you want.

    Delete the key from the application and increase the version number.
    That key is just background noise from Windows operating and not part of
    your application.

    Your great deal may not be such a great one if all the apps you have are intel ones.  You cannot change the processor to intel, and as Allan correctly says, you will have to use older versions of the apps you have, they simply will not run on PPC architecture.  There may be older versions of Skype, for instance, that you can download, Google all your apps and see what you can find.

    I am trying to ccreate "Source Files (Templates) for Original Application Files" . I checked the link

    I created a new DOc. type TMP with no statuses, checked in KPO, assigned no. ranges.
    Created  DIR & assigned the template file, checked into storage category. DIR no. 10000000390 created.
    In Workstation application "DOX" in define templates for originals : doc. type: ZGA, application: DOX; language- EN; no - 01; In source doc- entered doc. type- TMP, doc. no.- 10000000390, part & version
    Assigned for required source file copy" ZGA doc. type. -- Default Appl. as "DOX" workstation application.
    Now created a DIR with ZGA doc. type, when clicking on originals , DOX prompted and clicking on "create with template" . TMP doc. 10000000390 template open in a new window. I edited & saved. close the MS word window. When comes to DIR, it prompted, Original was changed Do you want to save the original?.
    clicked on yes.
    Saved the ZGA DIR. When I saw the new ZGA DIR created it didn't capture. Where I went wrong ?

    By going this below link, it seems we can use template for creating ne wdocument & attach the same.

    Following messages if you read, it may be clear.
    By having templates in place we can utilize the pre-defined documents instead creating right from scratch.
    Entries can be done in the Template and save the document.
    Templates are used for standardization and uniformity. By using templates time consumption for creation of documents will reduce as most of the details are maintained in the master template and the same can be utilize by using the template when creating documents.
    If in DMS editing functionality is not there what is the use of templates- documentation?

    I have updated in SPRO setting  the Application name path as you suggested and tried to add workstation application PPT in T code CV02N and getting error
    "File name extension ppt is not permitted in workstation application PPT"
    My File path is-  C:\Personal data\Presentations\SAP_PM.ppt

    This will let us know how effective our deployments are and how well the on-demand software is being adopted.

    Your Install Source might be an option as most SCCM deployments will install from C:\Windows\ccmcache\xx [where xx is a random folder name]. Most software vendors will put an install source in the registry, but not all do, so it won't be completely accurate.
    When software is installed manually, the install source path won't be C:\Windows\ccmcache\xx.
    Here is a SQL query I have for Install Source:

    Editing files (originals) attached to DIR depends upon the format of the attached file, authorization provided to the particular user.
    the settings for workstation application has to be provided in dc30 for the particular attached file which needs to be edited.
    for more advanced way in editing you need to have ECL Viewer to be installed on your system which helps in redlining/marking and even more editing options.

    As I know we can create many content versions, when it is activated.
    I have a doc. type ZAC with KPRo checked, and all statuses associated are checked with content version. I am using the workstation application MS word (DOX) in which content version as well as additional files has been checked
    Statuses defined for ZAc doc. type - Submission ; review ; released
    I have defined workstation apllication in network for DOX
    PC     DOX     1     Winword 2007     %SAP-OFFICE-INTEGRATION.INPLACE%
    PC     DOX     2     Winword 2007     %SAP-OFFICE-INTEGRATION.OUTPLACE%
    PC     DOX     3     Winword 2007     %SAP-OFFICE-INTEGRATION.INPLACE% %MAXSIZE%
    I created DIR.
    Changed to new statusu2026and moved to storage category, it prompted for log field, given. When I am viewing Original it prompted permissions / with stop protection etc (using MS office 2007) . Clicked on stop protection and did changes. The changes were not considered in originals. No new content version created.
    I have created another DIR.
    Not stored in storage category. Open the DIR in change mode,  select the originals on origianl tab,  click on check in as new version, entered log field. After selecting orinals, when I right click I am getting options: check in ; check in as ..;  check in as new version. No changes in Word document recorded. No new content version created.
    I have created 3rd DIR.
    Not stored in storage category. Open the DIR in change mode,  select the originals on origianl tab, change the tab and changed the status. No changes in Word document recorded. No new content version created.
    Did I miss any steps ? Why I couldn't able to make new content version?

    I have tried the same way. It didn't work for me.
    Can you clarify the following:
    1. If we want to make content version does the document to be check in or not ?
    2. Does we need to store the outside SAP & save as new one ?
    I go to CV02N, Originlal is not check in, open the originals, it open in SAP . Edited, saved the transaction.
    No changes saved.
    Then go to CV02N one more time done changes, changed status, clicked on check in as new version, then also changes didn't save.
    Can u explain me where I am missing ?
