Workstation inventory scanning
hi
I am not able to perform workstations inventory scan in consoleone. But if
i run ZfdInvscanner.exe from c:\program files\novell\inventory, it worked.
When I right click the workstation object in consoleone, under properties,
Zenworks inventory, workstation scan configuration, I click on "Start Full
Scan", and It doesn't work for me. Can you please tell me what goes wrong
and how to make it work ... Thanks
In article <[email protected]>, [email protected] says...

Check with wmsched.exe, you can force a run via that if you wish.

Inventory scan slows the workstation down
Hi,
we use zfd 4 since more than 3 years. (server 5.1SP8 with ZFD 4IR7)
The inventory runs fine before we have begun to install all the Windows
XP patches.
We tried many netware client and zfd client versions. But the
ntscan32.exe needs now more than 10 minutes to scan our workstations
(new hardware DELL Latitude D-Series). During this time you cannot work
with this workstations, even it is a full or differential scan.
We play a little with the inventory policies, but nothing helps. Policy
is configured to run on system start with software and hardware scan.
Any ideas?

no, but we found the problem:
We have about 48 application objects with XP patches and every
application has its own dependencies. It seems that the checking of
these dependencies simultaneously to the inventory scan causes the slow
downs. After we have deleted the associations to the workstation
objects everything looks like before.
Now we think the NAL has some problems to work with complex
dependencies.
Thank you for your help

Win98 not getting inventory scan
Our XP systems are getting the inventory scan and importing it into
the
database, but our Win98 systems are not.
Recently I deleted all the workstation objects, then ran a sync to the
database to clear it out. I then ran unreg32 at each workstation and
let
them reimport themselves and rerun the inventory scan.
The XP systems worked fine. The win98 systems imported into the NDS
with
the minimal workstation info. But none of the info got into the
database. When you look in nds and ask for more workstation info,
almost
everything comes up with "NO INFORMATION FOUND".
It looked like it was just scanning for delta info, so yesterday I
went
into ConsoleOne and checked start full scan for every win98
workstation.
Now when I look at the java interpereter on the console, Win98 systems
aren't showing up as getting scanned at all.
If I look at the Scan status, I get the following messages:
Scanner(Warning) : 027: Unable to read the sequence number from the
Workstation Object.
Scanner(Information) : 024: Initiated scan successfully.
Scanner(Information) : 009: Software Scan done using Microsoft
Installer
(MSI).
Before I asked for the full workstation scan, I would also get this
message, but I don't get it anymore.
Storer(Information) : 200: The Storer has updated the database.
Thanks,
Pam[email protected]

For zen 3.0 you really are at the newest client you can be, or maybe
even too new.
I would try this next, although I don't know if it will fix it.
1. Make Sure the "Enable Software Scan" box is checked.
2. Create a new Workstation Package and reconfigure the inventory
policies.
3. Restart the server, unless you have already done that.
Let me know if that helps.

I've noticed that a few of our servers get this message in the console

ZCM Agent Inventory Scan - Patterns for Software Recognition
Hey Everyone,
Is is possible to find out which patterns the Inventory Scan uses to determine the installed Software products? (are there any local files on the agent-side with information what to look for?)
For some reason the Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Installations wont be found any longer and I so far I cant figure out why this is happening (actually a few Office 2003 Products are shown, even on freshly installed Win7 Devices which have never seen any office Installation besides 2010)
Perhabs this might be related to the Office 2003 Compatibility Pack. This one was installed accidentally and I removed it via an uninstall bundle. Seemed to work fine, but ever since then Office 2010 wont be found within the inventory.
To test this behaviour I installed a clean win7 + Office 2010 + ZCM Agent. In this case Office 2010 is found.

ZCM Inventory Scan of a NetWare 6.5 Server
I was able to install the ZCM Adaptive Agent for NetWare servers on all of my NetWare servers, and I can see these servers in Devices/Servers after performing a discovery.
How can I run an inventory scan for these NetWare servers so I can get more detailed information about these servers?
Thank You,

Inventory Scans Slow down Workstation
I'm running ZfD 3.2 and have the inventory policy set to to scan machines
once a day at 'Below Normal' priority. When inventory runs, workstations
bog-down, not due to the inventory scanner process, but because the
workstation's virus scan sofware scans the files as they are opened by
the scanner. The workstation virus scnan software is McAffee VSE 7.1.
Has anyone found a way to disable virus scanning while inventory is
running and re-enable it when the scan is finished? There isn't any
option on the inventory scheduler to run a pre or post execution script.
Thanks.
PeteNo, not that I am aware of. What happens if you choose a higher
priority ? Does it change anything ?

Automatic Workstation Inventory not working
Hello there,
we have a NW5.1 SP6 Server with ZFD3.0 Sp1 on it...
for what circumstances ever the inventory is not working anymore...
I see the task in workstation manager (scheduler), but nothing happens
on the server.. (the workstations are running NT4.0 SP6a)
All 4 java-tasks are running on the server...
When I do a manual scan (ntscan32.exe) from my WS, it is working...and
invertory is running... the same at a colleagues PC (we both with
admin-rights)..
Trying the same from a normal users workstation... nothing happend...
??? What is wrong?? we never changed rights or something else at this
server or the ZEN-Installation.. HELP! ;)) Wo has an idea??
Thank you in advance :)
RalfHi Charles and Jared :)
Thank you for the answers, it took me a time to look back here because
I
was going mad with that problem *grin*
Meanwhile... I found the reason!
But before I tell you let me answer your tips:
Jared mentioned the zenerrors.log file, but the Problem is: I do not
have that file on my NT4.0 Workstation! ?? I still dont have it...On Lindas PC (my colleague),a Win2000 Workstation, she has the file!
And there we saw the error "036 unable to access SCANDIR directory", what helped us out to find more TiDs ;)
And,yes, after the manual scan, the inventory information was sent to
the server, yes.
And after looking, asking others, searching and so on Ive got a tip from a friend and consulter:Make the Root of the Tree a trustee of the
scandir folder... Hm... never thought about that... it worked from
the beginning and suddenly it stopped..why should these rights be
gone??
Fact is: after doing this... next morning Invertory was working
again!! :)
Please dont ask me why these rights were gone.. I have no clue!!
I am only a dumb CNE *g* ;)
Thanks for your help and please excuse my english, I am German ;)
Greetings, Ralf :)

Workstation Inventory does not match primary server
The inventory in ZCM is incomplete for many workstations. the errant worksations only have a partial software inventory. If I do a scan-now the workstations xml file gains the proper information, but it never updates the server. I can trace the delta file going through the satelite server, but no new software is reported. If I remove the workstation object and reboot, zcm clears the inventory, but still never recieves any new information. If I remove the agent from the workstation, and remove the Zenworks directory the workstation now works, but that is impractical on 2000 workstations.
Specualtation: The workstations, not knowing there was an error on their side always sends a delta.xml file without any changes. So the server never gets updated.
Is there a way to tell the workstation to send a complete software inventory and not just changes?Well, of course, I found the answer 2 minutes after posting. Just delete the C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\work\inventory\***-full.xml file and the workstation doesn't know it took inventory before and the whole world is happy.

XP Inventory Scan Crashes (NTScan32)
Recently, we have replaced some of our PC's with new ones that are
running
XP Pro. They run very nicely with Novell client 4.83 (SP2) however,
when
the Zenworks inventory scanner tries to run, the user gets a message explaining that the program has suffered an error and will close ('Do
you
want to send a bug report to Microsoft?' - you know the on I mean). It
seems XP doesn't like NTSCAN32. This is happening on all our XP
desktops
and laptops (Which are all Compaq machines)
Anyone got any ideas where to start looking?
Details:
Netware 5.1 SP5
NDS 8.82
Zen for Desktops 3 (SP2)
Client 4.83 SP2
Thanks in advance,
Richard SleightThanks for the reply. I think I've found the cause.
Yes, this is only happening on our new Windows XP machines. It is XP
that
is at fault, not Zenworks!!!
XP is preinstalled on the Compaq machines but does not include SP1a
for
XP. When the inventroy scanner was trying to run, XP was reporting to
Zenworks that it was an NT system and hence was trying to scan with
NTSCAN32. Manually running WinScan.exe worked fine. After doing some digging, I installed SP1a for XP and now when invertory scan tries to
run,
XP reports it is indeed running as XP and so doesn't try to scan via NTSCAN32. Now all is well.
Thanks again for your help.

I have set up workstations to regisiter themselves with ZEN, and then
I'd like them to run an inventory. I have a workstation package,
which
has the inventory enabled and schedule to run between 8-12 on
Wednesday.
It has run some of the workstations but not all. I have no idea of
even
where to start looking for the problem.
ThanksIf you policy is set to trigger on and event like screen saver, the
event
may not happen.
Try changing to user login or a specific time to see if you get any
more
machines inventoried.
Also check to see if the machines are even associated to the policy
and
are receiving the policy
One way to do this is to right click the calendar/pencil/clock icon in
the
system tray and select display schedule, your policy should be listed.
The machines may need to be re-registered to the context where the
policy
is active.

Inventory scanning is successful, but performance gathering is not.
I am running the MAP tool in my environment. I am able to successfully connect to all of my Windows servers and see the WMI information about their processors, memory, OS version, IP address, etc. When I run a 30 minute performance gathering test on them,
only 12 of the 28 or so servers I'm scanning are reporting information. The rest of the servers aren't even appearing in the list of clients in the "CollectionStatistics" tab of the results spreadsheet.
The 16 failing servers are successful in reporting their inventories, though, so I know WMI is enabled and the credentials I provided are correct.
Troubleshooting procedures I've done:
- pinged the server by name and IP successfully
- Opened computer management (compmgmt.msc) and used the "connect to remote computer" option. While connected I verified that Remote Registry is started and running.
- Successfully established Telnet connections to the servers failing to report performance metrics on port 445 and 139.
- used wbemtest to successfully establish a connection to the remote servers. I was able to run the query "select * from win32_useraccount" and observe results returned.
At this stage I'm not sure what other tests to perform for troubleshooting. Has anyone else encountered this problem or have any advice as to how I can get these non reporting servers to start dumping performance data? The performance data collector requires remote registry to be enabled. See this TechNet Wiki article for more information:

Unable to locate any database objects
Hi, I try to run Query the Inventory Database today with no luck. From
ConsoleOne, click Tools, click Configure DB, click a Zenworks database
object and OK, I got message"Database is configured" I then try to do
Inventory Query, the only choice for Select Attribute is Processor. I try
to select others, such as Memory, Bios, but the OK button is grayout. I
also try to view the inventory summary for each workstation and receive
the message Could not Connect to Database Server, and the last workstation
inventory scan was in Feb. 24, 2004 shown on top of the dialog box. Any
idea in helping me how to fix this? I appreciated.
