Workstations hang during Netboot process
Hi All,
I've got a problem with my workstations as they are hanging upon the initial Netboot process.
I created the Netboot.nbi set by using the System Image utility on the same intel iMac I have in the computer labs.
The server is running 10.5.6, Netboot service is running and machines are getting a IP address before sending out the tftp requests out. When trying to netboot it gets pass the flashing globe to the spinning glob and then once it gets to the gear thats where it hangs with the grey screen saying I need to restart my machine.
Here are the logs from the NetBoot attempt

This is where the log stops at.
I hope someone can shed some light to this problem.
I look forward to all replies and suggestions.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Brian,
I eventually figured out my problem over the weekend and yes it was because the share NetBootSP0 and client was not shared via NFS or AFP. I've since enabled sharing of both folders and this has fixed the problem. Have started using Deploy studio instead of Netrestore succesfully.
Now I need to figure out about multicasting options over the network to see if their are any speed increases when restoring a machine.
Thank you for your reply and helpful advice.
I'll remember the command showmount -e
as I haven't seen that one before (sorry still relatively new to the command line and it's long list of useful commands

PLEASE HELP ! While updating My Xperia Z1 , my pc hanged during the process and .
While updating My Xperia Z1 , my pc hanged during the process ( so , installation of update was interrupted , guess it's same as getting your USB connection disconnected )and now the phone won't turn on .
Its shows the Sony Xperia logo , then shows a black lit screen , and that's it , nothing else happens . I can only turn it off by pressing and holding the power+up volume button , but it turns on automatically if plugged in for charging or in PC only till it gets that black screen .
I tried to flash it with a flashtool (Emma) , but it says phone locked , but since it can't even be turned on , i can't unlock it .
It's a store bought phone and is not of any contracts with any mobile service provider or anything like that ....
Funny you know ... my PC had to crash at the moment i was updating it .... my luck ....
Anyways , now please can anyone tell me what i can do ? I'm sure there is a way i can fix it using my pc and other downloadable software , so please can some one help me how i can fix this problem ? I don't care if i lose all the data on it , i just want my phone back ....
Solved!
Go to Solution.Problem Solved ,Thank you very much !!
For those who might face the problem and stumble upon this thread after googling
Read above mentioned comments
Now here's what I did :
Turned the phone off by power+volume key method , then plugged it in to the pc via USB and opened sony pc companion , entered Support zone , then entered the Update device option , then I Unplugged my device , only after doing this a window pops up with Repair my phone/tablet in blue text , then i clicked on that and followed the simple instructions ..
It's basically what Thommo said , only i was so freaked out at that time that i failed to follow his instructions to the letter
So now my phone is back to normal , and , it got the latest lolipop update !
Problem solved i guess but Thommo , i need to disturb you again with just one more question , since at the very beginning , the update process was interrupted , and now i got lolipop after the repair ,without needing to update again , so has the lollipop been installed properly on my phone or do i need to use any other flashtool to re-install lollipop ?
again , Thank you ... -

Workstation hangs during boot from OVM Server CD
Newbie here. Downloaded OVM and created bootable CD just this afternoon.
The hardware is a Dell Precision 390 with 4gB RAM; 64bit technology (Intel EM64T); BIOS at 2.2.0; Intel Matrix Storage Manager (RAID5). Virtualization Technology option is "on".
When I boot the Precision, it stalls at the Intel Matrix Storage Manager screen as the boot CD is being accessed. No messages. Simply hangs with the system unresponsive to the hard connected keyboard.
Any hints regarding how to begin diagnosing will be greatly appreciated.927071 wrote:

Simply hangs with the system unresponsive to the hard connected keyboard.Verify the md5sum of the downloaded ISO. If that matches, reburn the CD at a lower speed. Try booting the CD on another machine as well, to see if it's just this machine, or the CD itself that doesn't work. -

when updating apps, my iphone5 hangs for about 10 minutes and resets itself.
Nothing i can do, not even a soft reset, as it's going to do it anyway!
often, it continues the updates where it left off (or even starts again), and does the same thing up to 5 times until the app(s) update.
It's infuriating and is killing my battery and my life! LoL
any ideas?
cheers.
Mitchum. It would appear the iOS' multitasking capabilities leave much to be desired. Try with one at a time instead of the Update All button.
Or better yet, do it in the computer-based iTunes setup you have your phone associated with. On a real kosher OS such as Mac OS X or Windows, multitasking works for real and all your apps get updated by iTunes pronto. Then just sync the phone with it and you're golden. Side benefit: you won't get the awful "updated on mm/dd/yy" list of all the apps from the past. -
Report Server report process hangs during formatting reports
We are using Forms and Reports services stand alone.
I am printing 2000 reports every day, 5% reports hangs during formatting pages, or at any page number while formatting. Has anybody seen this problem and what was the fix. I am seriously thinking to change the report server and move to crystal reports.I am able to run request using Reports service. So this problem may be a setup issue.
1) Ensure that in $OH\network\admin\tnsnames.ora you have the TNS entry fo the DB connection
mydb, mydb.com =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = fullHostName)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = service_name)
If you have multiple Oracle Homes in the same machine please see that you have added tns entry to correct oracle home
2) Set the logon user for the service . Please follow the steps given below.
* On the machine that hosts the Reports Server, choose
Start > Settings > Control Panel
and double-click Services in the Control Panel folder.
* In the Services dialog box, choose "OracleORACLE_HOME_NAMEReports[repserver]", where ORACLE_HOME_NAME is the home name of the Reports Server and repserver is the name of the Reports Server instance. The value of ORACLE_HOME_NAME you can see in registry .
HKLM->SOFTWARE\Oracle\Home<x> -->ORACLE_HOME_NAME
* Click Startup. The Services dialog window displays.
* In the Services dialog window, select "This Account" in the" Log On As" section, and select an operating system user name and password. This specifies the user account under which the server process is run. The user running the Reports Server service must have access to anything the server may need.
3) If these do not solve the issue, please turn ON reports tracing, restart service and post the exception/errors you see in log file here. Also please post the full request URL here.
To turn ON tracing in $OH\reports\conf\<serverName.conf> , uncomment the trace element.
The logs can be seen in $OH\reports\logs\server_name.trc and server_name-rwEng.trc
Workaround
4) Till the setup issue with windows service is identified, you can workaround the issue by starting server as a standalone executable. For that give ,
rwserver server=server_name

IPod recognized, but hangs during update
So my iPod will show up in Finder and in iTunes, and automatic updating will begin. However, at random times during the update, sometimes 4 songs in, sometimes 65, the whole process will just hang. iTunes status screen gets stuck on flashing between "Updating iPod..." and Song 65 of 2054 and just flash between those two over and over.
Meanwhile, the iPod screen itself is also stuck and no longer flashing "Do Not Disconnect" -- it's a steady screen with none of the normal flashing.
Tried resetting, doesn't do anything.
Tried restoring, and it hangs after Authenticate asks me for my password to Restore the iPod.
I wind up having to just force disconnect and force quit everything and restart.
Anybody else have this problem? Thanks for any help you can give.
Oh btw, OS 10.3.9, iTunes 4.9, iBook G4.I am having the same issue where it hangs during update -- seems to always happen around the 1800th song. Here's more specifics:
-I've got 7000 songs in my Library
-my iTunes Music folder is located on an external FireWire HD
My Mac has no problems mounting the iPod. No problems restoring with iPod Updater. No problems with erasing using Disk Utility.
I have tried the following:
1. Resetting and then restoring via iPod Updater.
2. Erasing/reformatting via Disk Utility, including zeroing out all data, and then restoring via iPod Updater.
3. Resetting into Disk Mode.
4. Manually updating songs.
5. Automatcially updating songs.
Nothing works. I have been troubleshooting this for about 8 hours now with no luck. No matter what I do differently, it always hangs around song 1800. I even tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes -- and I have tried this with several different user accounts and on different partitions I have set up.
When it "hangs," the iPod itself just makes a the "clicking" sound of a HD. I'm wondering if the HD is just bad -- but it came up with no errors when checking with Disk Utility.
Any more suggestions?

X200 hangs during restart or shut down when connected to ultrabase
My X200 hangs during a Windows restart or shut down when I'm connected to my ultrabase. The laptop appears to go through most of the processes to restart/shut down but eventually hangs at a blue screen with unmoveable cursor (note, not a Windows BSOD). I'm forced to perform a hard shut down to turn off the laptop.
This hang at restart/shut down only occurs when I'm connected to the ultrabase.Just as a thing to try, and this is assuming that you all have an integrated camera, please try this camera driver and let the board know the results:

E71 Hangs During Call Reception
I purchased my Nokia E-71 about three months ago. I expected this phone to be up to par since it is considered an "Enterprise" phone. This my second firmware upgrade. My phone's current version is 200.21.118. To my surprise it hangs during call reception. It totally freezes; even the red power on/off button is not functional. The only resort is to unplug the battery and plug it back on. It's very exasperating to lose a business call, especially if it was an international one.
I call on Nokia to listen and pay attention to their customers and be responsible before it get deserted.I understand your feelings but this is a user to user forum. There is no guarantee that your concerns will be seen by Nokia here and you will certainly not get a reply from them.
If you wish to contact them, you should use the "Contact us" tab on the top right hand corner of this screen.
With regards your problem, if it only started after the update then it is most probably a software issue which we would hope to help you resolve. We just have to go through a process of elimination, starting with the most likely and least disruptive. Whatever you do, always remember to backup your data just in case. -
ITunes 10.5 hangs during iPhone 4 sync
Just installed iTunes 10.5 and attempted to sync iPhone 4/4.3.5 several times. The process hangs while "Backing up" with the status bar right under the t in (Step 1 of 5). I've swiped the phone to cancel, which leaves iTunes continuing on as if the phone were still syncing. I used Task Manager to quit iTunes on Win Vista, restarted iTunes and attempted to sync again. Hangs in the same place. So, I restarted the computer, restarted iTunes and it's still hanging during Backing up... I am so frustrated! Help!!!
I've two Windows 7 64 bit desktops.
On the one I've always used which has all my backups, apps, music etc etc I'm having the same problem and I've tried everything including above suggestion, removing and reinstalling, New download, stopping processes using MSCONFIG and Autoruns all to no avail.
On the scond PC it's all working perfectly but I've no backups, apps, data, music or data.
Not happy. -
Hi,
I'm using an ejb in a loop with some 1000 calls. It's possible to do this a second
client, but the third hangs.
It's also not possible to start a simple jsp or servlet on this server during
this time.I've seen cases of a server (WLS 6.0, Hotspot 1.3) hanging where the
process does not respond to the thread dump command (CTRL-BREAK), so it
was not possible to get the dump. Has anyone come across this before,
and is there a workaround?

Partial update occassionally hangs during wget - admin-op-update
Since we upgraded our ITL and MDEX Windows servers to 2008 R2 Enterprise, once in a while our Partial updates will hang during the wget admin-op-update process. When this happens, the lock is not released and the next Partial update fails to start because of the lock. Each time, I have to release the lock, and then everything is fine until it happens again (about once a week, different times).
We are on MDEX version 6.1.3.
I don't see any errors in the logs; the partialupdate.out file shows the line:
Starting shell utility 'wget_-http-127-0-0-1-17000-admin-op-update-,
then the next line is the start of the next partial update:
Loading beanshell.imports .......
which finally ends in :

INFO: Starting partial update script.
Dec 22, 2012 1:30:08 PM sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl invoke0

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Migration Assistant hangs during "Transfering Information"
I have just purchased a Mac Pro and are using Migration Assistant to transfer files, etc from my G4 Dual 867 (running 10.40.10). The G4 goes into “Fire Wire Target Disk Mode” with no problems. When I boot my Mac Pro, during the initial “Welcome” sequence, it sees the G4, but hangs during “Transfering Information”. I have tried transfering only my settings (10k) incase it the 20 or so gigs was too much data, but this failed as well.
Any ideas?

66FirebirdI'm experiencing the same problem as the person who initiated this thread. I repaired my earlier system's drive with Disk Utility, and still the whole process hangs up on the "Transferring Information" screen.
What the heck? This shouldn't be very complicated, should it? -
BB Desktop Manager for PC hangs during start-up
My wife has a 2 years old HP laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit OS, at Service Pack 1 level. BB Desktop Manager for PC hangs during it's (BB Desktop's) start-up. Initially the screen with BlackBerry Desktop Manager and the BB logo appears but then it goes away and a smallish screen appears and never changes from a blank grey screen. If you mouse over the border it indicates it is not responding. She has been using this product on this PC with no major problems for several years. Looking in the Events Viewer, it seems the error first appears on 10/9/2011. Yesterday I tried to fix the issue by installing the laciest version RIM 6.1.0.36 (she was using .35) That made no difference. I have the program set to run as an Administrator and have told Norton to Trust it.
The Event log entry for the oldest such event contains the following:
The program Rim.Desktop.exe version 6.1.0.35 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Since it is necessary to either task-manager the blank window shut or to tell it to force it to close, these errors may be generated by that action.
Today I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still no improvement. Any suggestions?I have just copied in the most recent attempt to start it. The full log is quite large
