WORLD GLOBE APPEARS ON START UP!......

AND AM WAITING 1 MIN TO GET THE APPLE SCREEN, ANY IDEAS

Hi Klarion,
Welcome to the forum.
Firstly, you see... I went out last night and got totally drunk. I mean totally schlozzled. I'm paying the price today with the mother of all headaches so me and my poor lil' ol' head would appreciate it greatly if you STOP SHOUTING... thank you.
Okidiki... the globe thingy. Your startup disk has been set to search for a network startup volume which is why you are getting the Globe. Very simple to cure. Do the following:
1. Fire up System Preferences.
2. Select Startup Disk
3. Within Startup Disk select your hard drive.
That's it. All should be well again.

  • Why does a flashing world globe appear during start-up process?

In recent months my MacBook Pro has decided not to start up in the usual way. Now, when I am starting up a blank white screen appears for 55 sec, then a flashing world globe appears for 65 sec before the Apple logo appears. The machine is ready to go after a further 75 sec. Does any one know why this flashing world globe has suddenly come into my life - never seen it before?

System Preferences>Startup Disk - Select your OS hard drive and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.  Still seeing the flashing world globe?
BTW:  The flashing world globe is a network startup disk.

my iMac os lion 10.7.4 has jerky videos.  I've tried YouTube videos with Safari and Google Chrome and the spinning globe appears and the video stops for a few seconds.  I can't watch the white house weeklky address because it stops and starts every few seconds.  The software is up to date.  Just bought this thing in February 2012.  Can anyone help me?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. Might also apply to new machines w/o AppleCare.

How can I re-install Imovie 10? some features are not available ( world globes ,etc...) after the update from today

I'd suggest a fresh reinstall of iMovie then. Delete the Application and re-download from the Mac App Store. You should see something like this:

  • Applications Window appears when start up

Last week I had a problem with my printer not being on line, after some unguided troubleshooting, I got the printer back on line. Don't ask what I did, I don't know for sure.
But, now when I boot up OS 10.4.7, the Applications Window appears with the desktop in the background. I have been unable to find a way to keep the window from appearing on start up.
    Any help?

You might have inadvertently set the printer to open every time you log in or restart.
Go to "System Preferences", then click on "Accounts", then click on the "Log In Items" tab. Look to see if your printer is listed there. If it is, just highlight it and then click the minus button to remove it. Items listed there will open every time you start up or log in.

You could try my script ConvertFormat and see if you like the results. Would be easier than inserting the CDs and correcting the tag info again. Just be aware this is a one-way trip. Once you've thrown away some quality to shrink the files you can't get it back without going back to the source. You may better off investing in a bigger drive.
If you just want to squeeze more on the iPod you can use the built-in iTunes option to convert files to a lower bitrate as they are added to the device.

Hi, this question had nothing to do with the Subject of the original thread (which was Centro freeware), so I moved it to its own new thread.

  • Globe Displays on Start Up

I recently tried to install Leopard on my MacBook; my only option was to Erase and Install and I really didn't want to do that. So I looked in the support section and found this is a common problem. I tried using disk utility while using the leopard install DVD still as my startup disc. It did not work so I did what they said next and quit disc utility and tried start up again from my hard drive. It was taking forever so I just shut down and tried to start up again. Now whenever I try to start up a flashing globe displays on start up for awhile on the blue screen, eventually it will load. I do not know what this means and I would like to figure out why this is happening before I try installing Leopard again. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Clay...welcome.
What that means is your MacBook is trying to startup to a network volume that's not even there. When you do have it booted up go to System Preferences->Startup Disk and select the OSX volume not the globe.
I had trouble upgrading to Leopard but I did and Archive & Install (after a few failed attempts at upgrading) and it worked fine. It still keeps your system as it was (basically like an upgrade) so it's pretty painless.

  • When starting up Mac Book Pro, a Flashing Globe appears

I am using a 2.4 GHZ Mac Book Pro, and whenever I boot up my laptop, it turns blue, and then a white screen appears for around a few minutes.. then a flashing globe pops up. My Mac still runs perfectly, but it takes around 5-8 minutes just to boot up my laptop.

Open the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences and set your hard disk as the startup disk.

  • My imac just started taking a long time to turn on.  First I have a grat screen, than a gray world globe , a blue screen and finally my desktop.  A total of 4 minutes.  What is wrong and what do I do?

My IMac , just started, taking a long time to get to the desktop.  First I have a gray screen, than a gray screen with a gray globe, a blue screen and finally my desktop.  Takes about 4 minutes.  What is wrong and what do I do?

Once the desktop is up and the iMac ready to use, open Systeem Preferences (Apple menu) and click the Startup Disk item. In the new screen, make sure that OS X on your hard drive is selected in the top row - click it once to make sure. Then test.

  • Picture of a globe flashes while starting up. ***?

During initial power up a picture recently starting appearing of a globe before I was able to login. After I logged in I discovered all of my files had been moved into the Mac HD User folder and the computer was basically reset to factory settings. Not being a computer guru I ran Norton anti-virus which gave no results of a virus. My only thought is that it might have been an update malfunction or a corrupted file. Anybody have any ideas?

It's not a virus, and NAV usually does more harm than good, if it does anything.
Go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select your internal HDD. The globe icon means the Mac is looking for a startup volume on the network.
FYI, the proper location for your files is in /Users/yourusername. But your statement about a return to default makes me think there's more going on.
Did you, by any chance, rename your home folder (the house icon in the sidebar)? If so, read this:

During start up the apple logo appears and locks up. Re booting results in blue screen. After re booting 3 or 4 times finally boots fine.

If you are still not working properly you might want to try the recovery mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
