World of Warcraft MacBook Pro 17"

Hi,
I know this isn't the best place to post a question like this, but it seems as if it's the only active place where I might get a response in a relatively quick amount of time.
I am curious as to whether or not anyone here has ran World of Warcraft on their MBP at the full visual settings, and whether or not it runs the game smoothly, without issue.
And, if it so happens you have a glossy screen, how does that affect the visual look?
Thanks a lot.

Settings Sliders set to 50%
Server = Lightninghoof - Alliance
Ironforge AH Bridge = from 35 to 84 depending on time of day.
EPL and WPL = from 35 to 94 depending on time of day.
ZG = 35 to 70.
AV = 35 to 50.
AB = 35 to 70.
MC = 41+
AQ40 = 41+
I run it under OSX as I have no need for Windows XP. I had to do two things to get it to run like this...
1) Make sure you have your vert sync turned off under Esc>Video settings.
2) Also, browse to Applications>World of Warcraft>*** and open the file Config.*** with TextEdit. Type the following in as the very last line then save:
SET M2Faster "1"
A "GM" told me about this little trick which helps the game run better on Mac's. They will be adding this line in the config file as standard from the next patch / update + more Mac related performance changes.
FPS is all down to what you have set in your viedo settings. Less eye candy = more FPS. I have most all my settings at 50%.

  • Is it bad for the MacBook Pro to play World of Warcraft?

    Is it bad for the MacBook Pro to play World of Warcraft?

    There will just be a little more wear and tear than "normal" use, because the heat goes way up and the fans max out while playing, as with most gaming. I guess that affects the overall lifespan of the laptop.
    I played all the time on my MBP early 2008, and still play on my 2011 MBP. The '08's fans had to be replaced but still works fine.

  • MacBook Pro freeze/kernel panic while playing World of Warcraft

    Hello, Is anyone else having a similar issue I'm having? I have not had a single problem with my macbook pro until I reinstalled World of Warcraft. When I login to the game, the system will freeze, screen goes black, sound jitters, no keyboard or mouse response, and I have to hard reboot the system by holding down the power button. To make matters more difficult sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. This only happens when I'm running WoW...I also have StarCraft 2 installed (another graphics/processor intensive game) and I never had this problem.
    I read in the forums already about freezing issues and ran the Apple Hardware Test just to check the basics. Report came back clean (granted, I didn't run the full scan, just the quick test).
    Below is my kernel panic report...any thoughts?

    Hi and Welcome!
    It may help if we know the variant of your MBP. Some have serious video chipset issues that can complicate troubleshooting. Do "About this Mac..." from the Apple menu, then click "More Info..." in the resulting window. This opens System Profiler and, on its opening pane, is a complete description of your variant as "Hardware Overview." Copy/paste that info here, BEING SURE to omit your serial number. I'm on one of our older Macs now but the info should roughly parallel this format:
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G4
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,6
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
    L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 1.75 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.4.8f2
    Serial Number: /deleted/
    The second line, which under Snow Leopard reads "Model Identifier" will uniquely call out your variant for us.
    Those with the second line of Profiler stating "MacBookPro3,1" or "MacBookPro4,1" are subject to a Repair Extension Program for a defective video chipset.
    If the identifier is 5,1 or greater, your computer is covered in the forums for newer MBPS here:

  • 2011 Macbook Pro frame rate in World of Warcraft

    I am in the market for the new top end 15 inch macbook pro. I would like to be able to play world of warcraft at max settings, possibly no, or little sunshafts. What frame rate can I expect?

    Every setting set to absolute maximum, enough to see the pimple on Staghelm's neck on the top end 15" MBP and I was getting about 77 FPS in Tol Barad while doing dailies. It'd dip to about 55-60 near the south auction house in SWC and peak at about 131 FPS if I was out fishing by myself in the Highlands.
    Personally I hard cap my system at 65 FPS, I find that anything more is unnecessary and I usually run a customer configuration between medium and high. I just don't need to see 50 miles into the distance when flying over Westfall.

  • Macbook (1,83GHZ Duo 1GB RAM ...) + World of Warcraft

    hi,
    does anyone of you know if I m able to run World of Warcraft on an Macbook without graphic problems, or better said 'hardware lags'?
    a PC haha, maybe a mac soon   Windows XP Pro   sometimes it *****

    Welcome to the discussions!
    There are plenty of people here that run WoW nicely on their MBs. I recommend at least 1GB of RAM for most but the lightest Mac users, so in that comfiguration it will work well.

  • Will the macbook air 2GB be able to play World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm?

    Would the new MacBook Air 13" 2010 with 2BG of memory be able to run World of Warcraft: Cataclysm smoothly -on lower settings, of course-?
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    If game play is your primary usage I'd even consider PC laptops. Just cheaper and beefier hardware in general. Odd to talk about Dell on apple board but Alienware makes good game laptop. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5548&review=alienwarem11x+ultraportable+gamingnotebook
    Even Macs show faster graphics under bootcamp windows. For example my mac pro with nvidia quadroFX5600 shows 24fps on mac side and 35fps on pc side when I test it with cinebench r11.5. I don't know why but when it comes to openGL graphics performance PCs still has the edge. It could be that GPU drivers are more tightly optimized on PC side (directly by gpu manufacturers) or that MacOS X uses GPU more aggresively for basic OS function (quartz extreme, openCL...), which I don't mind.
    Anyway even if you go with Macbook air, you should try out the same game on bootcamp windows side to get a bit more oomph out of it.

  • MacBook Pro can't find my NAS (My Book World)

    I can't get my MacBook Pro to find my WD NAS (My Book World) on my home network. I have other devices that can find the NAS - Windows PCs and even an iTouch - so it is just my MacBook that can't find it.
    Anybody got any suggestions?

    Same problem here. Shows up on my PC latop but my Mac Mini can't find the WD MBW. On other forums Itunes updates is mentioned as a cause???
    Anyone have a suggestion?
    I have 1,5 TB movies and music so this is pretty frustrating

  • Can my Macbook Pro support dual boot and Secret World

    Hi
    My MacBook Pro has the following specs
    Processor  2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
    I was wondering if it can first of all, support dual boot, because I would like to play a Windows based MMORPG. And I was wondering if there are risks involved? I'm also worried because I like Mac's secure delete trash function and won't having a Windows platform affect that?
    Furthermore, can it support playing Secret World with such specs?
    Secret World is an MMORPG I'm not sure what the minimum requirements are.. It doesn't say, but anyone has a guess?
    -EDIT
    OS:      Windows XP (SP 1)/Vista (SP 1)/Windows 7 (SP 1)
    PROCESSOR:      2.6 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
    MEMORY: At least 2GB RAM for Windows XP / 3GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7 *
    VIDEO CARD:     nVidia 8800 series 512 VRAM or better/Radeon HD3850 512MB or better
    DIRECTX: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

    If you have an MBP with a Core 2 Duo processor and a clock speed of 2.16 or 2.33 GHz, your max is 3 GB. If you have a 2.2, 2.4, 2.5 or 2.6 GHz clock speed your max is 4 GB.
    Check Apple menu > About this Mac for processor type and speed.
    I can tell you what you should see - C2D at 2.16 or 2.33 GHz. Those machines have a 3 GB max stated by Apple, but will actually use ~3.2 GB if you have 2 x 2 GB installed, and you get the (marginal) benefit of having a matched pair. In that case, it's also 'normal' for About this Mac to show 4 GB even though the memory controller can only access a little over 3 GB.

  • Is it safe to buy a macbook pro from the US to use in india? The apple warranty is valid throughout the world?

    My uncle is presently in the US and i am tempted to ask him to get me the latest mid 2012 13in macbook pro! I wanna know if its safe to buy it from there and use it here in india?? Also the first year warranty is valid throughout the world or because i bought the MBP in US so my warranty is valid there only? I also understand that the power brick has different ports in the US as opposed to india, so if I use a simple port converter, will it suffice or i need a voltage converter too? i have been google - ing this question over the internet and found vague answers. Please help! Response is appreciated!!

    Your warranty is valid worldwide. The power adapter is universal, so you will only have to invest in the correct plug.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" flashing image/icon of world on screen at startup

    My Macbook Pro (retina 15"), flashed an image/icon of the world when started up, and it had to be restarted before starting up properly. What's the reason for this? Is this an issue?

    Search on globe at startup.
    When I did up came some answers from way back in 2006.
    It said to go to preferences startup & select the start up.  I tried that & then restarted & while it seemed to take awhile then the rest has been faster.
    It was saying something about losing where to find the start up so it was hunting until it found it.  Something like that.
    I'm on a 2012 13" MacBookPro running Mavericks.
    Before this I had noticed it flashing back & forth between a gray screen & Mavericks screen on boot up (I was back & forth while booting & came back to see that. knew it wasn't good so shut down. Waited a few & then started up. It worked.)
    It was funny since I had been wanting to go to Apple store & had talked about going w sister in law. That morning they said they were going in because hers wasn't working at all. So then I booted up & had that happen.
    So I called & made a Genius bar appt. They checked & didn't find anything, but I had been getting the globe on bootup which kind of concerned me. Also its been rather slow booting & shutting down.

  • On my macbook pro.  Was notified to do an 'update', now there are absolutely no radio broadcasts which I accessed on my world travels.  What happened to them on the download of the new iTunes???

    Was sent a message to "update" iTunes on my MacBook pro... Did so and now there are no world-wide radio broadcasts on the pull down menu?  What is that about?  I travel a lot and use them regularly.  Can I get the old iTunes back?

    It would be best if you posted this issue on the iTunes forum where there are persons who are well versed with this application and may be able to assist you.  Yours is not the only problem with the new iTunes.
    If you have Time Machine or another backup prior to the download of the new iTunes, you should be able to resurrect the prior version.
    Ciao.

    PLEASE HELP?

    bradhamer12345,
    this could be due to a problem on your disk. You can try this to see if it makes a difference: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode.
