Worried about bios version for L855D-S5117

My bios indicate a version 6.4, yet toshiba support indicated that for my computer the latest is version6.2.  Version 6.4, at least the toshiba support page indicates is for model l845.
Is there something wrong here?  I ask this because, I cannot seem to boot from an external hdd (usb connected).  This is a linux distro, and the first message I get is something about cannot find efi.  Same is true when I insert a live cd (with fedora 19).
I tried to update the bios, with the 6.2 version but it would not do it since the bios  version loaded is 6.4.
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Week ends are some times slow on replies. I have no life so I hang around here to much. I'm not sure how much help I'll be, but will give it a shot. I'm sure you know you have to have the boot order set to boot from USB as the first choice. The USB must have a working OS installed on it. I have a seagate 1TB hard drive that I use to put my back up images on and other things. I have a 16GB flash that I have Toshiba recovery media on.If I try to restore with the 16GB USB while the 1TB is plugged in, it refuses to boot because there is no operating system on the 1TB and it won't boot. If I unplug the 1TB and plug in the 16GB USB, it recognizes the USB and will boot to it because it has a OS on it. Having said all this and which you probably already knew, I suggest you go to the Linux forum and ask them what your doing wrong. You will get better replies during the week.
Dokie!!
PS This is what Microsoft has to say, which is over my head.

  • Which is the latest BIOS version for Satellite L30-113 (PSL 33)?

    Hi everyone,
Could someone please tell me which is the letest BIOS version for my laptop since I have never upgarde it?
Also how do I install it and how do I check what is my bios version now?
    Thank you in advance

First of all the BIOS update is not necessary if your notebook functions correctly.
    But back to your questions;
On the Toshiba European driver page you will find all available drivers and also the newest available BIOS. At this time it seems to be a 3.10-WIN version
How to find out the BIOS version?
This is very easy you have to access the BIOS and then you could see the BIOS version.
To access the BIOS you have to press the F2 button immediately after notebook was started.
    Ciao

    HI

    my current version is E16F13IMS.30
The dolby digital live on the GT60/GT70 is pretty much crap. It only works with 'streams' that actually output it in dolby digital, an will not up-convert audio (ie MP3's and stereo sound) to dolby digital output. It's a very crappy implementation, to be perfectly honest about it.
If you want a GOOD sound card to output dolby digital audio, I would suggest considering an Asus Xonar U3. They run around $50USD, and will upconvert and will work great with this notebook. It's what I'm currently using.
Otherwise, the ONLY way to output dolby digital is to get a TOSLINK adapter (goes from a optical stereo connector to a normal optical connector). While they aren't expensive, they still won't get you good sound output from the laptop. I tried it, and went with the Asus Xonar U3 instead.
It really doesn't have anything to do with the sound card, it's not defective. It's just that is all that it can actually do. There are very few, almost none, out there that can actually upconvert. The Asus Xonar sound cards are one of the few that can.

  • Minimum bios version for neo2 platinium+venice core?

What is the oldest bios version that the neo2 require to post with a a64 venice core?

    That'll get the job done!
May have to order a Venice REAL soon....!
I had the worst Winchester ever - 3500+,  0437 VPMW, batch#0015, and it couldn't get out of it's own way. It needed 1.52v just for a 200Mhz OC - pathetic. Highest benchable speed was about 2675Mhz, with 1.68v...After getting frustrated enough to do something about, I decided on the 3000+ Venice. All I can say is this &%@#!!* thing is fast! I didn't think I was in for this big of a boost, but I can ride this puppy to 2500Mhz with stock vcore of 1.35 and take it to 2750Mhz totally Prime stable with 1.552v. The dfference is incredible, and not just in benchmarks and games- it just feels faster all around. I was lucky and got a decent OC'er, and the Neo2 helps too

  • New bios version for HP Envy 800-060

There is a new bios version, 80.21, for the above listed machine.  I wish HP would put in the release notes with their downloads.  When the update just says critical, but doesn't tell you what it's doing, that is kind of annoying.

I agree. that is strange. i will ask my internal contacts about it and get back to you on this.

    John,
I'd pay good money to bet it wouldn't last 5 years... I don't rate the in built power supply and as for "server grade hard disk" - Hmmmm..... The failure rate of all HD's on the market after 3 year is 60%.

  • Anymore BIOS Version for CQ40-314TU

I have an HP Compaq CQ40-314TU and it is using the BIOS version F11C to install Windows XP (Originally, it used  a BIOS version which I didn't know to install Vista). Unfortunately, when I turned it on and used Dxdiag to view the system properties, It showed that the RAM were 986 Mbs (I installed 2x512 MB sticks) due to onboard Intel VGA, I think. When there is Kaspersky Antivirus installed, the startup process costs 4 minutes and there is NO option to adjust the onboard VGA. Is there any other BIOS Version that  I can use to replace the current one? I know for sure that there will be somone in this forum tells me that I should turn off any unnecessary service or program that interfere with the startup process. I have tried all of these but it is useless to do so. Thanks all

WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS - Microsoft Windows-Based
I guess it means it was specifically created to run alongside Windows...
altough it says on the underlying description:
    Description:
This package contains the WinFlash Utility and a System BIOS image for the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems. The WinFlash Utility is used to locally flash the System BIOS (ROM) on notebooks/laptops operating in a Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System environment.
and it does only says Vista... I would not recommend doing it on XP... not unless you have got Vista right now, flashed the BIOS then downgrade back to XP... which would be a lot  complicated and long process that you are to take...

  • H61M-E33 B3 - which BIOS version for i5-3570?

    Hi
My motherboard is MSI H61M-E33 B3,  I was using i3-2100 CPU, but a friend gave me his old i5-3750,  which is far better. I updated my BIOS with Live Update before I swapped CPU's but I guess that my BIOS version is still wrong for this i5, because when I try to run my PC, it beeps 4 times and reset. So my question is, what is exact BIOS version I need for this CPU to work, and where can I download it? I would be really thankful for any help

Does it still work with the 13-2100? Did you clear CMOS after BIOS update?
Yes, and yes. Works perfectly with i3, and I've cleared CMOS, but it didn't help.

Go to MB support page and check the compatibility list.
    for the last 2 digits/letters, A=10, B=11, C=12 etc, so A2 will be 10.2
The problem is, on this page - http://www.msi.com/product/mb/H61ME33_B3.html#hero-overview - On the compatibility tab, my i5 is labeled as "7680vC0.zip" - so i guess BIOS version 12.0 - but on the downloads tab, I see only BIOS 12.3 and 12.2, and the next older one is 10.E :/ Should I download this 12.2 or 12.3 versions?
When I use my Live Update 6 program, with i3 CPU mounted, it tells me that my BIOS version is A.E0 and it is the latest one, and no need to update.
    I'm really, really confused :P

  • Old BIOS version for 945PL Neo (MS-7236 v2.x)

Older BIOS files for this board 945PL Neo are not available for download on the website, it's all done through the updater program.  When the bios is upgraded it does not save the old bios for backup, I found out.
I need to downgrade the BIOS to the board's shipping version.  I unfortunately updated the BIOS to I think it was 5.2 and I need version 5.0.  Upgrading the BIOS screwed up a license key for an application I'm running.  I couldn't have planned a better disaster.
    Anyone?
    Thank you.

  • NEW BIOS version for Satellite A200 PSAEC!

They've posted new Bios updates on the download page!
5.20-WIN : This Bios is NOT compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!
1.80-WIN : This Bios is ONLY compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!
But I don't really know how to use this. Because I have currently XP installed. Let's assume I update the bios with the XP version. What if I decide later to put back the Vista? That would be impossible, because I have BIOS for XP. And couldn't install the Vista BIOS neither, as i have XP installed...
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
its not so tragically if you have a XP bios and vista installed. It will work but with many limitations and it wont work stable, so its better to have the version which is intended for the operating system you currently use.
Thanks for posting this news, I assume that many uses with that machine appreciate some good news. :)

  • [Athlon64] Confused about BIOS versions

I'm looking to upgrade my BIOS - but since the layout change in the BIOS download section, I'm confused.
    1) What's the difference between Award and AMI BIOS'?
    2) Am I to use an Award or AMI BIOS for my board?
    3) Under the AMI BIOS's (the only ones available for my board), the Special Note says that versions 1.x and 2.x don't work with the K8T Neo-F. I'm using an earlier version - does this include my board?
    Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

You install an AMI bios as a motherboard only had one bios type and yours is AMI.
See: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=496&kind=1 for latest bios update. The latest is up the top of the list.
