i wanna ask something..about my motherboard bios..
this is the chronology...
frist... when i was upgrade my bios to V 25.8 i got stuck on my windows..

I've read the SOP instruction ..
but when im click ok on the window update.. i got stuck on my windows..
i cant click anything..
so i restarted my PC, and taraaaaa..i got bootloop..my monitor just blank but my pc still on..
im so panic, then i unplug my flashdisk and restart again..
my computer turn on normally and i got the default setting on my bios..
and when i was check my version bios , i got my bios V 2.2 ,the first realese bios..but before i ever updated to v 22.5..
why my bios back to frist realease?
my other bios was broken?
how can i fix that?
i dont know my other bios was broken or not..
the one think i didnt read on that web is the latest version of my motherboard just for Ivybridge cpu..
im used sandybridge cpu..
i hope your reply guys..
im so worried about my motherboard..

Z68A-GD65 (G3) Memory problems after BIOS update

Good day, i'm russian, so sorry for my english.
Friend of mine had MSi Z68A-GD65 (G3), i5-2500K, memory pair 2*2GB with bios 22.8 (latest version with no red letters about ME8 and IvyBridge).
He decided to upgrade the processor to IvyBrydge and updated bios with new ME8. Then the computer went into a state of continue restarting every 3 seconds. After replacing the CPU to the new Ivy - computer works good, the impression is that the computer does not understand Sandy now and switched toIvy. But it has seen only one of memory pair. My friend just bought a new motherboard. Now he has no problems. I took his MB and SandyBridge CPU.
Flashing the bios to the old version by M-Flash - it does not see the BIOS file, although it is there (in the root, FAT, 2G). Flashed it under dos with AFUDE238 with a key -x, it said about mismatched ROM ID. After the old BIOS flashing (with an Ivy) computer went three-second reset mode. CPU changed to Sandy i5-2500K - now works good. By the way, now M-Flash see the firmware on a flash drive - I flashed it again from the M-Flash, just in case, reset the settings.
What is the problem: if I set the memory into the slot 3 or 4, the computer goes into a three-second reboot, it does not matter is the memory in the first two slots or no. If this memory is inserted in the first two slots - all ok. So I work now - in the first two slots with no dual-channel mode.
The feeling is that the problem appeared after first flashing to Ivy and remained after flashing back to Sandy.
Question 1: What to do to get working the memory slots?
Question 2: Is BIOS 22.8 - the latest which I will have with Sandy? (There is a problem now when the computer starts - 1 times out of 10 will not boot - reset is helping, and the BIOS at starting not very fast).
There are posts about people with the same MB and the CPU and the new BIOS (25.2) that supports Ivy. I'm confused. It means I can use the new firmware from SandyBridge. But there are many posts about problems with new firmware. Where is the true?
Just checked BIOS version - P.1 (25.1) 2012-04-16 - by the way with Ivy support. But I flashed with 22.8, I'm sure. ME version in BIOS isn't shown, but while booting - ME 7.0
What does it mean? Can it be repaired? What should I do?

What it was. I flashed BIOS with tool from this forum. Bios flashed good, but problem still was here. Then I flashed to the first bios version from support site. And again flashed ok but memory still not working in slots 3 and 4. Then I decided to flash back to last flash with Sandy support 22.8 (or 23.8). Then I flashed to the last bios at all - 25.4. Flashed it from dos - this was pretty long. It rebooted 3 times (ME updated too). I still don't know - what it was with first flashing to Ivy. Now it's ok.
So I decided the problem is bent pin. With magniglass and needle I've found some uncertain pins (these were not BENT, but slightly bent) and touched these with my needle. And that was the answer. Now all works fine. Thank you all.
On the russian msi forum no one answered and helped me at all.

MSI Z68A-GD65 won't start to bios!

I have problem, heres my pack:
MSI z68a-gd65
i5 3450
hyperx predator 8gb 2x4gb rams
asus gtx660 pci-e 2gb
2tb seagate
650w corsair
and the problem, i installed up the components today and got it working first without detecting SATA 2tb seagate. Then i switched to all sata ports and the last one 8 and 7 worked fine for seagate and Asus DVD. But now the problem is that it lets me in marvell bios when it shows up the harddisk and dvd, but not in the "primary bios". When it shows the first data, harddisk and dvd, it goes straight to "Warning BIOS ME file not found install on the usb" etc... I dont know what to do because i read all the forums in the internet, wasted 6 hours in investigating internet and found nothing. Have tried the flash utilitys, USB flasher utility found in forums and all... Reseting BIOS didnt help.
Please help, im getting drunk every hour more with this cra*

As i know, the board was in the warranty fix, and became back to shop, where i buyed it. But the shop gave everyone who would buy the board, 6months warranty so i dont think it would be broken.
Also for the flashing, i dont have OS on that system, what we are talking about. And if i download those BIOS from the MSI site, its only EXE? I cant run exe from USB flash when starting PC?

Z68a-gd65 boot loop after bios update using USB

Hi there,
My z68a-gd65 (G3) went into a boot loop after I did a bios update from a USB key that I installed using the latest BIOS version on the MSI site 7681vP8.zip
After the system restarted, it keeps booting up for 5 seconds and then shutting down, I removed all external devices and the Geforce GTX 550 Ti card and used the onboard card, but still no change...
Is there a way to set the board to factory defaults again???

Hi there,
Maybe for others to solve the same problem, I found out what was the cause of this problem, I had a USB/Firewire card installed in the PC, after removing it the BIOS update could proceed from the USB stick as planned.
After the update though, my USB/firewire card can still not be installed back into the slot, because doing so will make the boot loop appear again, very odd!
Does anyone know why this new BIOS will not work with the card that has been inside my PC for 2 years???

Cant flash new Bios to my Z68A - GD65 G3

I tried flashing the bios from forum beta thread multiple Times now: E7681IMS.P80
I prepared my stick with the forum flasher tool.
And executed in commandline: efiflash bios.bin
It says invalid ROMID it does not fit your current one.
Mainboard: Z68A-GD65 (MS-7681)
PCB Version: 4.0
BIOS Version: VN.4B7 (aka Version: V23.4B7)
BIOS Date: 16.11.2011
I need to update to get my 780 to work.

Z68A-GD65 (B3) won't even enter bios

Well I got my MSI z68A-GD65 (B3) today.
The first time I set up the system I forgot to plug in the 8pin because I got confused with the (20 + 4)PIN stuff (I haven't had a PC for some years). After I sorted that out I got the system to start, it told me that "hardware and cpu had changed F1, F2 bla bla; so I pressed F1 to enter setup and have a look but it didn't do anything so I had to restart.
Right now I can only start the system, I will get somthing about marvell, and "no hard disk detected" (there is one plugged in without any windows), it will continue afterwards at the bottom there will appear DEL for Setup and F11 for bootmenu but neither of them will work.
So now I'm sitting here in front of my new computer I need to do some urgent work :S, but there is no way even to get to the setup.
I've tried to change the ram sticks (only one, with two,etc...) I've cleared the CMOS a thousand times, there is no way.
Do you have any clue of what to do?

Not impossible. We have seen many a case of slightly bent socket pins, and then the pin does not make proper contact, which can have a myriad of side effects.
Take the CPU off, use a camera with macro facility if you got one, and take a high res picture to inspect the imprints on the CPU pads. A magnifying glass and bright light will also do.
Inspect the socket pins for any anomalies.

Z68A-GD65 NO BIOS Problem

I have a big problem.
I have a Z68A GD65 motherboard with Intel Core I5 2500k.
This morning I wanted to update the BIOS from M40 to M60 via windows. (My opsys is Win7 Ultimate 64 bit).
Update ran correctly, the pc restarted, but no bios. PC ran 3-4 secs, and reboot again, and again, and again and so on. The system never got to BIOS.
In the user guide refer to press the clear CMOS button. I did it. After press the button the system not boot automatically just only when I press the power button. The procedure exactly similar to above mentioned.
Everyones idea?

The problem is other type of what I think.
The M60 BIOS does't like the Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/4G memory kits.
I use 2 kits (summa 4x2 GB).
If I use only one module on DIMM1 everything is ok. When I used DIMM1, DIMM2, DIMM3 and DIMM4 same time, in same memory modules the original problem has come up again.
So I returned to M50 BIOS. This working fine.

Z68A-GD65 (G3) Component Advice

I am in the process of putting together my first PC and look like getting a Z68A-GD65 (G3) board.
The CPU will be a i5 2500K, but I would like some advice regarding ram and the CPU cooler. I intend just using the O/C button on the board method of over clocking as I am new to over clocking. I will be adding 8 gig system ram. What ram have people been using that causes no problems.
With regard to the CPU cooler I have read a few reviews where the bottom support bracket on the back of the board fouls with one on the board heat sink mounting screws. From the pictures one screw is close the the mounting hols.
The cooler I am thinking of is the Noctua NH-C12P, but it has quiet a big back plate. The other one I am looking at is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. I tend to like coolers that have back plates and screws to mount them rather than push pins as they are easier to reuse and mount firmly.
Are these coolers good enough for my overclocking needs. I hope the auto overclock will give me just over 4 gig which will be fine for me.
For the case I will use a HAF X or a Corsair model, should have enough airflow.
So what ram have people used with this board that overclocks well and does not cause reboots during the overclocking process, and of course the CPU cooler.
This is my first full build, and first go at overclocking so I am looking at compatibility and reliability over performance, and I do not need a big overclock for my needs. This is a build mainly for FSX flight simulator.
Also from reading some posts here I will need to flash the BIOS as well. The process described here to flash the BIOS seems complicated to what I have done in the past which has been on gigabyte boards only. I used to just download a small exe and run it from within windows. Is that possible with this board as I do not understand the process from what I have read here in the forums?
I presume my choice of mother board from the MSI range is right from my needs, if not please recommend what I should be using.
Any advice will be appreciated.

I have a question about the memory. I have been looking at the Corsair Vengeance range that I can buy online in Australia and they all seem to be 1600 not 1333.
PC Case Gear seems to have the best range, but they are inconsistent in the way they give the specs, at least to my understanding which is next to nothing.

The closest I can see is the "Corsair Vengeance CML16GX3M4A1600C9 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3" kit.
This kit has a SPD speed of 1333, speed rating of PC3 12800 (1600 MHz) and a tested speed of 1600. Voltage is 1.5v
Is the SPD rating the most important? If the SPD is 1333 is this the memories real speed?
Most of the memory they do not give the XPD speed but mention it has a XMP profile for overclocking.
Very confusing. I must admit that in the past I have just purchased the value range when upgrading and have had no idea what I have really purchased.
The Dominators are out of my price range but all seem to be much higher specked than the vengeance series.
Is the "Corsair Vengeance CML16GX3M4A1600C9 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3" kit OK for my needs?
One thing building your own PC, you start to learn a little more and realise the value of forums like these and how little you really know.

Z68A-GD65 (G3) not always finding ocz vertex 3

Me and a friend just bought identical setups, among them was the Z68A-GD65 (G3) motherboard and OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD. Both of us get some random crashes and sometimes when trying to boot the computer the SSD does not show up in BIOS (therefore can't boot from SSD). This also happens after a random crash. This usually gets temporarily fixed if you do a hard reboot. However it is very annoying when the computer freezes randomly (can be days between freezes). When BIOS cant' find the SSD it takes a longer time to show the mobo splash screen thingy.
It is noteworthy that when doing a "hard reboot" it sometimes takes the computer about 5 seconds to startup after pressing the power button.
Anyone got an idea how to fix this?
I don't really know how i would go about solving this as it works most of the time so i don't want to fiddle with things i don't completely understand.

Well, that is highly irregular! One day it's not found on the Websites, and now it is. That was not on the Global site yesterday, because I looked. And a (G3) UEFI/BIOS at that.
You are mostly on your own on this one. The 'key' or 'certification' has obviously been removed from hardware/firmware or whatever it is on the board that handles that aspect. How you get it back depends on what you decide to do. If it is that important to you, the mainboard may have to be restored to it's former glory of Sandy only UEFI/BIOS's. Use the link in one of my previous replies and contact MSI Technical about all this. They are the only ones that can help you possibly get the Virtu problem resolved. What have you really gained using an Ivy CPU on a Z68 (B3)? Good luck!

Z68A-GD65 G3 Reboot Loop

I'm putting together a new build and I've run into a reboot loop. When I attempt to start it up, it runs for about 5 seconds, then turns off. This goes on in an endless loop. It never gets to POST. The 6 LEDs light up and the BIOS ones don't (so this appear normal). I have never gotten a successful bootup.
My setup:
Motherboard: Z68A-GD65 G3
CPU: Intel Core i5, i5-2500K
Memory: Kingston HyperX (4x4GB DDR3 - 1600 CL9 240)
Power Supply: OCZ ZX Series 850W
CPU Cooling: Xigmatek Gaia SD1283
I am not listing anything else, because I am not getting far enough for it to matter.
I am running with only the above pieces connected to rule out all but the essentials.
I've inspected the CPU and slot. Both appear fine.
I've cleared the CMOS using the button on the I/O panel and removing the battery.
I've subbed out the Power Supply.
Only the 8 pin CPU and 24 pin motherboard connections are made.
I've tried various things with the RAM. All 4, just 2, and just 1 (in the DIMM1 slot). Most testing was done with just 1. I have tried all 4 in the DIMM1 slot.
I've removed it from the case and booted it up in the cardboard box (nonconducting) it came in, to rule out a short.
I've inspected the motherboard carefully, no obvious issues.
I've checked that the CPU cooler is making good contact with the CPU.
I've verified that the OC button is not active, although I've tried that too.
I've read through the forums, but have not been able to find a solution that works.

I had this very same problem with a Biostar T-POWER I55 2 years ago, to cut a story short the retailer and the distributor who handled Biostar RMA's rejected the RMA.
I spoke to Trading Standards/Consumer Direct as I read in the Sales Act that in the first 6 months of a purchase if the damage cannot be proven to be done by the end user then a warranty claim still exists.
Finally after stating this & quoting the Trading Standards Reference number to the retailer, I got a call from them saying they would offer a refurbished motherboard worth £113, my original motherboard cost £138 so I refused this & asked if they would agree if I could purchase a brand new alternative for (£75ish) around 50% of its purchase value to which after another day they rang back & agreed.
You are not the first and won't be the last this has happend too, One manufacturer will cover for warranty in these circumstances because I asked them.
I suppose you could get a 2 year warranty via Amazon, small expense for peace of mind which covers you for Accidental damage as well as mechanical failure, quite good if the motherboard pins snap off the motherboard.

Computer with Z68A-GD65 (G3) mainboard doesn't resume from sleep

Hi,
Recently I've been having a lot of trouble with my Z68A-GD65 (G3) / Geforce GTX 550 Ti combination, starting after Microsoft updated my graphic drivers to the latest version.
BSOD, hangups , mouse freezes were there all the time so I did a few things to make things stable again, installing older drivers and updating the BIOS of the mainboard to the latest I could find , being 7681vP8.zip
After this the system became stable again, but I have this weird problem that I never had before: sleep mode works, and most of the time it resumes, but not after a longer period of sleep, lets say a whole night....
When I try to resume from sleep mode after a night, the system boots but I can't see anything on the screen , the graphic card doesn't resume.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Matt GB, Certain aspects of OC'ing and updating software are best done manually in any case.
Your initial disappointment reflects to an extent my own, but with a bit of testing and patience the confidence in the board returned and I am now pretty pleased with the results so far. Please check my feedback in the Beta BIOS thread after the last N31 release.
May I suggest that you take the time and report your personal findings to MSI technical so that they can address your concerns. Just complaining about what you are unable to achieve serves absolutely no purpose at all. We are all here to contribute to finding solutions.

Real problem with Z68a-GD65 (G3)

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone can help. I'm having some issues with my motherboard, It's got a core i5 2500k in it. I was doing some over clocking, just upping the multi, it was fine at 43 then when i went to 44 it wouldn't boot and have been having all kinds of problem with it now. The BIOS light was flashing so i went into the bios to enable the second bios to reflash the first one, i've reflashed it with the latest bios. One of the problems i am having is that when i press the power button it will either take a few seconds to power up then power off then on (might do that a few times) if i leave it it says the overclocking was unsuccessful even though it's a fresh bios with everything a default. Or sometimes it will power up right away then shut down the fire back up again and boot up normally, also the POST seems to take a long time start, say 15 secs from it powering up to the POST beep and should the beep a short sharp one less than a second or kind of long say about a second? other boards i've used have been a really short fast beep. once the system has started and is in windows it seems to be running fine.
any help would be great

Interesting... what you are describing is pretty much what was happening on my system with the initial BIOS installed. There was some kind of a bug that caused the motherboard to switch between BIOS-es after you restarted the PC (happens only on an overclocked system). Basically, after you restart, the system will fail to load the primary BIOS, shut down, and restart again this time loading the secondary BIOS (will work fine). Next time it would fail to load the secondary one, so it would shut down, restart, fail again (I guess attempting to load a tretiary BIOS which this board does not have) and shut down again. At the next attempt the primary BIOS would load just fine and the cycle will begin anew (after each restart)
When it was switching like that it could cause plenty of confusion, since you could have different settings on your primary or secondary BIOS-es, and unless you open the case and look at the BIOS indicators, it's hard to figure out what is happening. From the outside it just looks like the system takes a little longer to load and occasionally restarts few seconds after boot without showing anything.
I got rid of the issue by flashing to the newer BIOS version. But you have tried to do that already (this could fail though - one time it decided to use the multi-update feature and reflashed my primary BIOS from the secondary one again, putting me back on the older BIOS version which brought the issue back). Furthermore, removing the battery should default the settings, removing the overclock (as I have mentioned, the problem seems to arise only when you overclock), meaning that it should have started working normally after that as well.
Still, the symptoms are very much like what I experienced, so I figured I'd post this and perhaps you'll find something of use in it

MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) 99.8MHz bug, temporary fix to make it 100MHz

With the current available official and beta bios, when disabling spread spectrum, the bus speed does not increase from 99.8MHz to 100MHz, I have messaged MSI support again to look into this with the current 23.4B4 Beta Bios.
Anyway I have found a fix for this, download the latest Control Center v2.2.0036 off the MSI website.
If your CPU Base Frequency is at default in bios 10000 you will see 98.8MHz on CPU-Z so in Control Center change the Base Clock (MHz) to 100.2 MHz and click save.
If your CPU Base Frequency is at 10010 you will see 100.2MHz on CPU-Z so in Control Center change the Base Clock (MHz) to 100MHz and click save.
Either way when you reboot it will always show 100MHz.

I just use the 10010 bclk bios setting, but that band-aid solution doesn't net an even 100.0MHz.
My earlier attempts at contacting support about the 98.8 issue just get the generic "disable spread spectrum" reply. Some of the earlier bios for my previous MSI P67-G43 board gave me the correct 100MHz bus speed for that board, but it also changed to 98.8 with the later bios releases.
But even the "first" "00" bios for the Z68A-GD65 G3 has the 98.8 flaw, as does every single bios that MSI has issued for this board, beta or otherwise, since.

I've used the HQ USB Flashing Tool to update it, but every time i boot from the USB stick and try to flash, it results in an error message saying that BIOS corruption has been detected
I wanna update the BIOS because i'm having lockup/freeze issues, which i thought were related to my SSD drive (OZC Vertex 3 MI Edition). But since RMA sent me a new SSD 3 days ago, and this 1 is giving me the same error/BSOD (without Minidump creation, so no idea what error that is) i'm starting to think something else is wrong. RAM is tested with memtest and passes fine.
Any thoughts on how to update my BIOS? FIXED!

MSI Z68A-GD65 (B3) with BIOS v22.4, i7-2600k, Windows 7 Enterprise x64
OZC Vertex 3 MI Edition 120GB (VTX3MI-25SAT3-120G)

The crashes happen randomly, but not very often. For example the system has been running for 2 days now, before i JUST noticed the first BSOD. For some strange reason there isn't a Minidump created, so i can't check what's going on (minidump (Kernel size) & pagefile both enabled). In the last week the system has 'crashed' for about 4 times and since every time that happened (mostly during nights) i was seeing a black screen with the message: No boot device detected. Insert boot device and restart system (or something like that).
When i checked my SSD, i was showing a green & red light on the back. Hard reboot seems to fix everything, red light goes away and the system runs normally again. Since i thought the BSODs were related to my SSD, it's been sent for RMA, and i received a new one 3 days ago, only today.... i had another crash :(
What did i do/try/test?
- Ran memtest for a night -> no errors
- Updated FW of Vertex 3 to latest
- Did a clean windows install
- Updated motherboard BIOS (just did that today)
- RAM settings (fixed): 1066MHz, 7-7-7-20, 1.55V, spread spectrum disabled (i know these settings fixed problems with my P55-GD65 board)
I hope someone recognizes this issue, or has any thoughts on how to figure out what's going on. Off course it's possible that i've got another faulty SSD, but i think the changes on that (after RMA the first 1) have been dramatically reduced...

Mixing of mem sticks on the Sandy Bridge platform is not a good idea and can lead to unexplained and inconsistent errors, even if its just the RAM amount that differs on the modules.
If you haven't tested the RAM in isolation, then do that. You may even want to test with only one single stick installed first.

I've test a single bank of RAM, a dual-kit of RAM and all 4 banks filles. It has been running at least 20 passes of test 5 & 7 of Memtest, without any errors. I think i can assume my RAM is a OK after this testrun.

I am testing it out right now. Originally I had reset CMOS, re-flashed the drive with hotplugging disabled and AHCI set in the BIOS, secure erased the drive using the Linux bootable .iso, re-installed windows, installed all the drivers, but my machine would still experience occasional BSODs. A few days ago tried the steps in that thread up to the "If you want to go a step further than this you can try the following...ONLY do this after you have done the steps above” line.
I haven't had a BSOD since **knocks on wood**.
When i upgraded this desktop, i was running an Vertex 2 (BIOS set to hot swap & AHCI enabled), and since the Vertex 3 can't update FW when it's being used for OS driver, hot swap was enabled while i flashed it. What you're talking about REALLY sounds like my problem. Since the freezes/crashes mostly occured during nights i wasn't able to see what the source of the issue was. Today was the first time i noticed a BSOD (for a second...) before it rebooted, and then (indeed!) it showed me the screen telling me there wasn't a bootdevice availabe. I'll go check out that thread you refered to and read up on that. BIG TNX for the link
