Worried about number of photos
My wife is running a MBP and is just scaring 15,000 photos. My kids are only 3 and 6 so at this rate I'm really worried what to do with all these? I'm thinking of building a media locker with http://lime-technology.com/ to store all these. So here's my question, do people really just keep all these photos on their MBP or is there a way to off load them to another place? She also puts them on an online service but I would rather have away to protect all these locally. Since this forum is just for iPhoto I'll leave my question at that because I'm just as worried about her music on iTunes and what to do with all that? I'd love some help with this. Thank you very much!
Not sure what the iPhone has to do with this - it is not involved in any way
as to iPhoto yes if you want to access 30,000 photos then you must have them all imported into an iPhoto library
I guess your question is not clear - what exactly do you need help with?
As to where to put them that is totally up to you, you can put them where you want - but this is the iPhoto forum so we can discuss iPhoto solutions here - if you want a different solution than iPhoto then this is not the best place to ask.

Hi. My iPhoto has "quit unexpectedly" and won't reopen (despite many desperate attempts). I am worried about losing my photos as I haven't backed up for a while. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased 2 iPhone 5's the first day they came out. Black 64gb for myself and white 32gb for my wife. She is having somewhat the same issues as you have. Wifi is weak and keeps dropping the signal, and also her phone almost never has LTE. And we are in a very strong Verizon LTE area in north Los Angeles county. My phone has never had any signal issues, wifi or LTE. I have been researching the issue to no avail. I though maybe the white with the brushed alluminum may cause signal issues, but haven't found anything on that and posts about the black one haven't problems blew that theory up.
I have also changed the SIM card and the phone itself and still the same problem. I saw a post about someone getting their phone swapped out and the apple rep told him not to restore the phone, but to just set it up as new. I have yet to try it, gonna try this weekend.. But it makes sense! I, like you have 6 apple devices (2 iPhone 5's, 2 iPhone 4's apple tv3, and the ipad3) and have no issues running all my devices via router.
So I am thinking about the history of the restores and backups and my wife is the only one that went from the 4 to the 5.. Every other device was setup as new. So my theory is that he iphone 5 has issues when you restore from previous backups.. Maybe something a little different from the backups of the previous models create issues in the iPhone 5's?
Like I said, I'm going to give it a shot this weekend and see what happens. If you get a chance to try this before, please let me know if it works and if I try before you I will update you.
Good luck and hopefully we can get these wonderful phones working like they should!

I'm new to the MAC world. I turned my computer on from 'sleep' mode, and a window was up stating that the IOS disk was full; asked me to force quit, then it just froze. It's been 2 hours. Help! I'm worried about losing photos/videos of my children. Im not sure if there's something special I need to do once I turn it back on; in the meantime, its still on... which I'm afraid the picture on the screen will burn into the screen. Does that happen on iMac's? Thx!
Try a hard reset. ( holding Power til it restarts)
Once to your desktop. Click the Apple icon >> About this mac >> More info>> Storage
Once you see what you have the most of. Try to see what you can delete.
Open up any folder>>all files>> or buy an external to store more data.
Once deleting make sure you empty your trash.
If you are new and its a new computer, you might need to bring it to a store for further assistence.

I have a recently acquired an iPhone 4. Is it true if I am using PhotoStream to upload photos to my PC via iCloud, photos are only pushed when wifi is available? This means I don't have to worry about extra data usage, right?
Thank you.Correct.
On an iOS device, new photos you take will be automatically uploaded to your photo stream when you leave the Camera app and are connected to Wi-Fi. Note: My Photo Stream does not push photos over cellular connections. -
What about number of days. How long is a photo stored in shared photo stream? 30 days?
Also, do photos in a photo stream (shared or personal) get backed up on a pc if the icloud panel is there?
RegardsI've adapted this from a function on my blog. you will need to add set the YourTicketTable to where ever your tickets are stored.

DECLARE @Date

IF (DATEPART(WEEKDAY,@Date)IN(1,7)
OR (SELECT
Count(*)
FROM YourTicketTable WHERE TicketDate=@Date)=1)
BEGIN
SELECT @Count = @Count
+ 1
END
SELECT @Date=DATEADD(Day,

END
RETURN
DATEDIFF(DAY,@StartDate,@EndDate)- @Count

I'm worried about what will happen if I delete my recent backup data from the phone I still own? Will I lose any progress in games that was saved in the backup?
I have an iPhone 4S and I keep getting those irritating notifications that tell me I need to upgrade my storage or free up space. I've deleted all I can from my music and photos without losing too many precious memories, but it's come to the point where I think I need to delete backups. However, I'm just worried that I will lose all and any log-in information that I don't remember and app/game progress that was saved to the iCloud. Please Tell me what will happen/what I can do?If you are asking what happens when you delete an iCloud backup, it only deletes the backup from your account. It won't do anything to the data on your phone or in your iCloud account. If you don't need to backup you can delete it. (If you no longer want to back up your phone to iCloud, turn iCloud backup off in Settings>iCloud>Backup. Then your phone will back up to your computer each time you sync it with iTunes.)

I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong. How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?
If I understand you correctly, when you enter a date in the Adjust Date and Time window, the picture does not update with the date you enter. If that is the case then something is wrong with iPhoto or your perhaps your library.
How large a date change are you putting in? iPhoto currently has an issue with date changes beyond about 60 years at a time. If the difference between the current date on the image and the date you are entering is beyond that range that may explain why this is not working.
If that is not the case:
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: to get to the "home > library" hold down option on the keyboard and click on "Go" > "Library" while in the Finder.
Let me know the results. -
I have just purchased a new ipad2 to replace my old ipad. How do i sync all the data in my apps I am worried about losing my data?
iPad settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party party app along with app settings are included with the iPad's backup along with other data.
If you are syncing your iPad direct with iTunes on your computer via USB, the iPad's backup is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
The first time you connect a new iPad or iOS device to iTunes that is used to sync with another iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iOS device to the new device. This is followed by a sync to transfer the same content from your computer that is on the old iPad to the new iPad such as music, movies, tv shows, 3rd party apps, photos, audio and print books, etc. -
Lightroom or Photoshop Elements for administrating huge number of photos?
Dear photo experts,
at home, we have a huge number of photos we took over years. We are looking for a software able to organize all of them. We currently have:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (Mac)
Adobe Lightroom 3 (Mac)
However, for organizing photos we so far use none of them but a third software (here, we are not happy about how it handles our huge catalog of photos).
Our photos are stored on a server (network attached storage), organized by date and event.
I read that Adobe Photoshop Elements cannot organize photos stored on a network drive.
Now my questions:
- Can Adobe Lightroom organize photos stored on a network drive?
- Is Adobe Lightroom capable to organize a huge amount of photos in one single catalog (separating them via tags)?
What are your experiences?
Thanks a lot!
JMickeyI read that Adobe Photoshop Elements cannot organize photos stored on a network drive.
I thought the opposite was true
Can Adobe Lightroom organize photos stored on a network drive?
As we say here in Rochester, NY, YES it can
Is Adobe Lightroom capable to organize a huge amount of photos in one single catalog (separating them via tags)?
Yes, this is one of Lightroom's strengths
What are your experiences?
I use Lightroom for all of my photo management (yes, I said ALL). I never use the operating system for photo management. Lightroom works great. People here in this forum who have much larger catalogs than I do (over 1/4 million photos) also use Lightroom to manage their photos. -
BY THE WAY, I CAN SEND EMAIL MESSAGE FROM MY NEW iPad to any private - personal emails using as sender the firts of my given email addresses (one from the gmail.com) - IN THOSE EMAILS I CAN SEND A PHOTO BUT I CANNOT DO THE SAME TO THE FaceBook EVEN WHEN USING THE UNIQUE EMAIL ADDRESS THAT FACEBOOK GAVE ME TO SEND PHOTOS BY MOBILE PHONE, CAN SOME ONE OF YOU SHOW ME THE WAY TO SEND AT LEAST PHOTOS TO THE FACE BOOK VIA THE NEW ipad purchased recently. SO FAR (I HAVE GOT THE NEW ipad) I HAVE NOT TRIED TO SEND VIDEOS TO BOTH FACEBOOK AND YOUTUTE. I WOULD WELCOME ANY SUGGESTION OR HELP FROM ANYONE OF YOU, HAVE A GREAT TIME ALL OF YOUR FROM ATHENS, GREECE
Have you tried deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-trying the photo sync and see if they all then copy over (you need to select and sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go, as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad) ? The location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
Don't know about the Facebook photo emailing, but there are a number of apps that allow to upload photos to their site (e.g. the 'official' Facebook app).
(For future info, typing all in capitals is considered SHOUTING - you are more likely to get help/responses if you don't.) -
I have an iPhone 4S and a MacBook Air. On the MacBook Air, in iPhoto, the number of photos is 3,563 (this is the number that appears next to the word Photos under library in the left hand pane). When I synch my phone with iTunes, I've selected Synch Photos from iPhoto and the number that follows that line is 3,546 photos. I have checked All Photos, albums, Events, and Faces.
On my iPhone under Settings, General, About, there are 4,293 Photos shown (the Camera Roll is empty).
I don't understand why these three numbers are not identical. Anyone know? What version of iPhoto and system are you running? What mode are you in, i.e. Events, Photos?
If it's the Photos mode the number at the bottom will represent the number of photos displayed in that mode or the number of photos selected in that mode. The number will match the number next to the photos mode only when there are no photos in that mode that are selected.
If you click on the Events icon and then back on the photos icon the numbers should match.

Maximum number of photos in Photoshop Elements 8
I am using Photoshop Elements 6 and am considering upgrade to 8. I am using Windows XP. I have about 50,000 photos on 6 and wonder what experienced users feel is the limit on 8 (or on Elements in general). Am I better off dividing into multiple catalogs? Switching to another program (Lightroom? Photoshop CS4?).
BTW, my photos are divided into about 3 groups, with some overlap - family, travel, and artwork (consisting of both my finished artwork and photos I use to produce my artwork, which is photo-based mixed media).
On my other computer (iMac), I am using Lightroom and Photoshop CS4, and have about 100,000 photos. Because so many photos slows down the program, I am dividing into a number of Catalogs/Libraries.
Thanks for your opinions.Thanks. I don't normally do "automatic" upgrades. There usually isn't a
whole lot of difference in a new version. I am doing more of my work in Raw
these day, and I understand that Elements 8 also has more raw support,
although I didn't notice it in the comparison chart.
My wife is an artist, but isn't very computer literate, so a lot of my work
is maintaining her files. She takes lots of photographs, and then years
later may use them in her work, so it is preferable to keep everything in
one catalog, as you suggest.

Number of photos on web gallery, error
Hi:
I have a question about my web gallery ( http://gallery.mac.com/carjrol2 )
The counter that indicates the number of photos i have into my gallery is wrong it puts that I have more photos than really I have
example in my logos gallery it puts that i have 42 photos and i only have 14 photos.....
How could i resolve this problem???Are you using the latest update - 7.1?
When I went to 7.1 this happened to me. after a day I forced one gallery to sync and next time I looked everything was correct again
Verify that the web gallery album in iPhoto has the correct number of photos and force a sync 9click on the little brodcast icon ot the right of the gallery name and hopefully that will corrct the count in your online gallery

Maximum number of photos in iPhoto 5
When I had my older G4 and older version of iPhoto (3.0 I think), scrolling and other functions would be extremely slow if my library go too big. So I split my iPhoto library into several smaller ones using iPhoto Library Manager. Now that I have a fast new iMac G5 and the latest version of iPhoto, I would like to merge libraries into one for convenience. With this hardware and OS 10.4.3, is there a suggested maximum number of photos not to exceed in the main iPhoto library for reasons of performance? I am not really a power user, but don't want scrolling and dragging to take forever like they did on the G4...
Hi rsm,
How many images are you talking about here?
How many images in each Library do you have?
What is the make of your camera?
Steve Jobs told us 20,000, but we have really got mixed results on that number.
Depending on your camera, it can make huge Makernote files that will considerably slow down iPhoto to the point of uselessness.
You can do a search within iPhoto 5 here in the forum for "Makernote" so you will understand the problem.

i'm using an older version of iPhoto on my desktop Mac and I can't seem to control the number of photos appearing on my iPhone and iPad, will upgrading to the newer iPhoto resolve this?
What version do you have?
iPhoto menu -> About iphoto.
What goes to your iPad/iPhone is controlled in iTunes.
