Worse performance with Radeon HD 6750m than Intel 3000?

Lately when i play games (specifically World of Warcraft and Skyrim) and watch movie i get worse FPS and performance on my dedicated GPU than intel 3000. i called apple care and they had me reset the VRAM(?) and something else, i forget. to get rid of the problem i need to restart my computer, but it will resurface after a couple hours.

  • Extremely slow performance with Radeon HD 7870

    Hi,
I am using a number of Adobe programs on my new Windows 8 64 bit system, with 16 gigs of ram, an Intel Core i5 2.67ghz, and AMD Radeon HD 7870 2 gig. All the programs (including After Effects and Illustrator) work very well with the exception of Photoshop CS6 64 bit, which has extremely slow performance with Use Graphics Processor enabled in my preferences (which Photoshop selects by default). If I turn off Use Graphics Processor, the slow performance vanishes. If I change Drawing Mode to Basic, there might be a slightly detectable improvement over Normal and Advanced, but it's still horribly slow. The refresh rate seems to be just a few frames per second. Everything is slow: brushes, zooming, panning, everything.
I've tried changing the settings I've seen suggested elsewhere: I switched Cache levels to 2, history states to 10, and tile size to 128k. No effect. Photoshop is currently at the default of using 60% of available ram. Efficiency has remained at 100% throughout all my tests. Also, this slow performance has affected me from the moment I installed Photoshop; it didn't crop up after previous good performance. The problem exists regardless of the size or number of documents I have open. Performance is still terrible even when I create a 500 x 500 pixel blank new canvas and try a simple task like drawing with the brush.
Photoshop is fully up to date, and so are my graphics drivers (Catalyst version 13.1). Any help would be greatly appreciated; at the moment performance is so bad in Photoshop that it's unusable with graphics acceleration enabled. Thanks in advance for replying.

    Great news!
I followed your suggestion, Noel, and uninstalled my drivers with the Catalyst Uninstall Utility (which I hadn't used before), rebooted, reinstalled Catalyst 13.2 Beta 7, rebooted, deleted the PS Prefs, started PS, and now the performance is radically improved!
It baffles me why I would need to do a clean driver uninstall in a new system environment that has only ever had this video card, and is only a few months old, but that action seems to be what's improved the situation. Note that because I deleted the PS preferences, the good performance now occurs with the default Use Graphics Processor enabled, and Drawing Mode set to Advanced (with every feature in the Advanced dialog checked except 30bit display).
Having no reference point, I can't tell for sure if performance is as good as it theoretically ought to be for my system specs, but using the standard 13px brush is only slightly laggy behind the cursor, even if I become reckless and squiggle on the canvas violently. It wasn't just sluggish response before: Photoshop seemed to be in pain trying to draw the line segments as it laboured to catch up to the cursor. That is pretty much gone now.
Much more tellingly, zooming and panning the canvas is like it ought to be, responsive and clean, more or less like it was for me in CS4 with my old Nvidia 9600GT. The poor performance with zooming and panning was the most worrying aspect of the issue. It's a great relief to see these working more properly now.
I have to confess I'm a little embarrassed to have drug you through all this hassle only to discover that something as rudimentary as properly cleaning out the drivers would be the apparent solution. I never would have imagined that doing that, with such a new and stable system, would make any difference, since I don't have a legacy of older drivers dotting my hard drive. In any event, I'm really grateful that you guys took the time to try to help me.
In the interest of completeness, here's the relevant portion of my system info after doing the reinstall steps I mentioned above:

As you can see, the Microsoft Basic Render Driver still appears as a Video Card in the list. This presumably has something to do with Windows 8, and I really don't know if its presence here is still a sign that my card is not being used to its optimal capability. I have a hunch that the slight lag that I am still experiencing with the brush when Use Graphics Processor is on -- totally absent with the acceleration turned off -- implies that Photoshop is still unable to take maximum advantage of my card. I would assume that the brush tool should be more responsive with acceleration on than off, in a rig without any issues, but that's just assumption on my part. If you turn off Use Graphics Processor on your systems, is the brush tool more or less responsive?
But again, panning the canvas with the hand tool is now extremely responsive, without any screen tearing or visible lag, and that's a massive improvement over the total meltdown of performance I was suffering from before.
Thanks again very much for your help. I'm grateful to all of you who took the time to chime in.

  • Best performance with forms 4.5 than 6i ?!!!

    Hi,
Since i'd upgrade my app with forms 6i, i find that when i make a query, this is more slow with 6i than 4.5, with the same db(8i).
Does anyone else had the same problem?
What could i do to resolve the problem?
    Thanks.

See my earlier posting 'Speeding load time of WEB Forms50'. I
have had no takers yet on a solution to this. There may be some
    hints for you there.
Good luck on this one - Forms over the WEB seems to be very
processor and memory hungry. We would like to support about 200
users on a VERY simple search screen, but we need about 2Gbyte
of physical memory on the server to get any amount of useful
speed out of it. Each Forms session takes up about 10Mbyte on
the server - as soon as this starts swapping out to disk then
your run-time performance goes right downhill. The earlier-
mentioned posting gives some hints on speeding up the startup
    time, and it does work.

  • AMD Radeon HD 6750M, Early 2011 MBP, 10.9.4 Problems

    Hello,
Ever since 10.9.3 update I have a serious problem with my Early 2011 MBP with AMD Radeon HD 6750M card.
    First my configuration:
MBP 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (Macbook Pro 8,2)
    16 GB RAM
512 GB Sandisk SSD and 750 Stock HDD
AMD Radeon HD 6750M and Intel HD Graphics 3000
    OS X 10.9.4
I'm usually using my MBP with external display with a resolution of 1920x1080. The display is connected via DVI to Mini Display Port adapter. When I connect the external display, my MBP switches to the AMD card. Here's where the problems begin. If I'm using Davinci Resolve, Capture One Pro or any other software (that I use regularly) that uses the GPU extensively, the cpu usage will rise, the computer will start to feel sluggish and my productivity almost becomes none because even the simplest tasks such as opening another tab in firefox or safari takes anywhere between 1-3 sec. When the computer starts doing that, I cannot play a simple HD video at native fps and the whole machine basically becomes too expensive paper weight. The strange thing is that even after I quit all programs, the system cpu usage continues to be high, around 50% with kernel_task being the star using all this cpu and it keeps using all of this cpu forever, at least until i shut it down or disconnect the external display and manage to make it switch to the internal Intel gpu.
The problem started after istalling the 10.9.3 update and it's still there with the 10.9.4 update. I even formatted the computer and reinstalled everything but the problem still persists.
I haven't experienced anything like this on 10.9.2 and the machine was actually quite fast before that. Now, I have too expensive paper weight on my desk.
Since the problem is very specific, I doubt many users will complain and I doubt Apple will ever do anything to fix it, at least until hopefully the new drivers in 10.10 fix the issue hopefully.
    My question is:
    1. Has anyone else experienced this and managed to solve the problem?
    2. How can I downgrade to 10.9.2? I don't have time machine backup but i have bootable usb with 10.9.2. Will it help?
    All best,
    Goran

  • Radeon HD 6750M - Sudden drop windows 7 user experience index scores and performance in Battlefield 3

Ok I have a strange problem regarding the performance of my graphics card Radeon HD 6750m in my bootcamped window 7 and maybe in OSX,here's what happened.
Firstly I noticed this when going to load up Battlefield 3 which has been ruining fine on low settings since it first came out, but today i loaded the game as usual and when i started playing i noticed that the performance had completely bogged down to about 1 fps and had became unplayable so had a look at the video settings and they were all the same (set to the lowest possible) so i quit the game and restarted the game/machine a couple of time but no change, still completely unplayable for no apparent reason.
So next a checked my Windows user experiance index number and notice that windows had detected changes in my hardware so i ran the test again, previously my scores were
    cpu: 7.5
    ram: 7.6
    graphics: 6.9
    gamming graphics: 6.9
    Hdd:5.9
    overall score 5.9
the new test results came in and every things else had stayed the same apart from the two relating to the graphics had some how changed, the new results were:
    cpu:7.5
    ram:7.6
    graphics: 3.9
    gaming graphics: 5.7
    overall score
I was completely confused how such a drop in performance could happen as i have not changed any of the hardware? is almost like the performance has halved relating to my gpu.
I have tried reinstalling drivers but still no resolution
I was wondering if anyone else had had this problem and what the possible causes could be and how a could fix this
    my hardware is:
    MacBook Pro 17-inch, Early 2011
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    hdd: 750 GB

Yeah its all very strange, in my opinion it must be something to with the drivers. After I had relised that something had seriously changed with my hardware setup in the way windows recognizes the graphics card, I tried reinstalling different versions of the drivers for the AMD Radeon HD 750M and one version gave me a small improvement of about 0.2 in the windows user experience thing scale in the category that scores the graphics (cant remember which version the driver was was as it was a spur of the moment thing) so could be a driver problem but it was working fine using the preview drivers AMD provided on their web site before.
I have also tried using the the original disk that bootcamp created during the install to re-install origianl divers (basically all the necessary drivers for windows to recognise hardware in Macbook Pro) and that never made any difference.
This also happened before the windows update that you wrote about Cuziuzi (its was an optional update for the windows 64bit) because I installed this after battlefield 3 had died on me thinking it might resolve the problem.
on a sidenote steam is refusing to lauch games on osx and i'am the process of re-downloading the game again to  try and fixes the issue (have only got L4D2).
I am going to look into it tomorrow and try to figure out what the problem is and post some info about drivers specifications and some more clarifying information.
Hopefully my GPU is not in the process of dying on me after the constant heat bombardment it has to endure thanks to Apples great design philosophy of visual aesthetics over functionality, fingers crossed Battlefield has not fried it!
Also cziuzi what's ur hardware specs?

you do not need nearly as many packages on hold. Haven't logged into my 32-bit arch install for a month now, but I've maintained a xorg 1.4 install with this line just fine:
    IgnorePkg = xf86-video-intel xf86-input-evdev xorg-server xorg-apps xorg-xkb-utils xorg-server-utils xorg-utils intel-dri synaptics libgl libdrm xorg-res-utils xf86driproto xf86-input-keyboard xkeyboard-config
That said, I expext to upgrade next time I use it (probably to play around with some fast boot). I would look into troubleshooting with the latest xorg and intel driver as it really should work, if I were you. I presume you have already tried starting x without a xorg.conf as a baseline test with those versions?

  • Open CL errors with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, on Premiere Pro CC 7.0 and 7.0.1

I am on a Macbook Pro early-2011 with a 1Gb AMD Radeon HD 6750M - I noticed this in Console, repeating constantly while loading Premiere as well as all throughout my edit session and export:
MacBook-Pro.local Adobe Premiere Pro CC[770]: [CL_INVALID_OPERATION] : OpenCL Error : Failed to retrieve device information! Invalid enumerated value!
Meanwhile in project settings my Video Rendering and Playback settings is happily set to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Open CL) - not greyed out like in CS6. Someone else mentioned having the same open CL errors but said it only occured when they updated to 7.0.1 - however, I have seen the exact open cl errors on both 7.0 and 7.0.1 (every string is identical except the "[770]" which can have other values like [270] or [1060] etc. I have graphics switching off and my AMD Radeon HD 6750M shows up fine in system profiler. I am worried there might be something wrong with it, but other than in Premiere CC, I am having no problems.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it a bug? Is there any other info I can provide that would help clarify anything?
I've spent way too many hours and late nights trying to troubleshoot but couldn't come up with anything, so any help would be more than appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ronny

Anybody from Adobe have any insight? Are you aware of this? I hope this is being looked into soon because I have a wave of TEDx HD videos to edit coming up in less than a week and just need some reassurance. Should I be worried?
Maybe the problem is with Apple's Console not logging it correctly, since my Mercury (CPU) option is not grayed out and still selected.

Hey all, since the update to CC I have had significant decrease in performance with all types of footage using Premiere Pro CC. Is there any known issues with these cards since the update? I am on a mac, 16gb of ram and have the

I don't know of any significant changes that would affect playback. Have you tried the normal troubleshooting steps, such as, trashing preferences, deleting media preview cache files, cleaning the media database cache, repairing permissions, etc.? Tell me, is your 6750M the one with 512 MB VRAM or 1 GB VRAM?

I'm puzzled because at www.phoronix.com they eneded up with good results with my video card (that is of course Intel x4500 as in topic )
I would be grateful if someone gave me a tip how to improve performance of my graphics card.
    Here is my xorg.conf

    Apparently yes,
    According to the thread:
To restore to the old behaviour, put this in your ~/.drirc:
    <driconf>
      <device screen="0" driver="i915">
        <application name="Default">
          <option name="vblank_mode" value="0" />
        </application>
      </device>
    </driconf>
But I don't come back to the same perfs as before (tested with eternal lands).
I noticed that in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
    (WW) intel(0): Register 0x61200 (PP_STATUS) changed from 0xc0000008 to 0xd0000009
(WW) intel(0): PP_STATUS before: on, ready, sequencing idle
(WW) intel(0): PP_STATUS after: on, ready, sequencing on
(WW) intel(0): Register 0x71024 (PIPEBSTAT) changed from 0x00020202 to 0x00020000
    (WW) intel(0): PIPEBSTAT before: status: VBLANK_INT_ENABLE VSYNC_INT_STATUS VBLANK_INT_STATUS
(WW) intel(0): PIPEBSTAT after: status: VBLANK_INT_ENABLE
There seem to be some problem with mtrr
I found this problem which seems related but I only have 2GB of memory

Can iMac be updated or just get new one? On iMac with OSX10.5.8, 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo--it's so much slower than iPad. It hasn't had cache cleaned or "First aid". I'm wondering if a computer store/techie can clean/update it or better to put $$ towards new?

If you want to clean up your hard drive some, here are some of my tips, also.
Hard drive getting full or near full?
Do a search for and downlaod and install OmniDisk Sweeper and OnyX.
Here are some of my tips for deleting or archiving data off of your internal hard
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive older emails you want to save to disc, Flash drive/s or to ext. hard drive.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, Flash drive or ext. hard drive and/or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Uninstall apps that you no longer use. If the app has a dedicated uninstaller, use it to completely uninstall the app. If the app has no uninstaller, then just drag it to the OS X Trash icon  and empty the Trash.
Also, if you save old downloaded  .dmg application installer  files, you can either archive and delete these or just delete the ones you think you'll never install, again.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its thing initially, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run all of the processes in the tabs. Let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be thinned out, moved, also, to the external hard drive and then either archived to disc, Flash drive or ext. hard drive and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

    Hi there @ZezoOo
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are looking for help with your video drivers for the adapters in your notebook. Unfortunately, after doing some searching, it appears that Windows 8.1 is not a supported operating system for this notebook. HP customized drivers are only available for the Windows 7 operating system.

  • AMD Radeon HD 6750M - Color Profile?

    Hi.
When my graphic mode switches from Intel HD Graphics 3000 to AMD Radeon HD 6750M, the OSX color looks very strange.
It has kind of a blue fog. Looks like a completely miss configured color profile. But I already tried to adjust that without success.
If I start a game, the color looks fine within the game.
    OSX 10.8.1
    All software updates are installed.
This only happens after I reinstalled OSX on my new SSD drive.
Any idea what the problem could be?
    Thanks
    Dan

Thank you "bios" on the link you've shared
I just wanted to say that "I installed Need for speed the run, and it was asking for a newer driver than the installed 11.1 (the one from apple bootcamp support), and I used the linked file you've mentioned and wala need for speed works like charm. However, when I play the game for about 20 minutes I can see the Magsafe green light turns orange i.e.. the MacBook Pro is not satisfied by the 85 Watt comming from the Magsafe and it is taking some additional power from battery to cover the power graphics consumption.
So, either the driver linked is not the final release, and AMD or Apple should update it with an optimized one OR the 85 Watt Magsafe is not the perfect match for a 15" MBP.
    Thanks again

  • AMD Radeon HD 6630M vs Intel HD 3000 for driving a Thunderbolt Display

    Hi
I've searched the net and cant find the specific answers I'm looking for regarding this issue.
Which graphics option is better for the Mac mini when connected to an Apple Thunderbolt display running at 2560 x 1440 resolution:
    1) AMD Radeon HD 6630M with its 256mb GDDR5 memory
    or
    2) Intel HD 3000 with 512mb of memory ( i.e. I will upgrade the Mac mini to 8gb or RAM to get 512mb of video memory).
Now will the HD 3000 with its 512mb of system memory be better simply because it has more, or will the AMD 6630M be better because even though it has less memory it has faster GDDR5 memory as opposed to the DDR3 memory the Intel GPU will use?
I tested out the AMD 6630M in an Apple store and when I had multiple Safari windows open it struggled a bit when I used expose. It stuttered and lagged and the animation was not smooth. Would the Intel 3000 with 512mb ease this problem?
    Thanks

Dear KYL, thanks for you fast and honest response. I have to say I am really disappointed. Apple sell so few machines/hrdware choice, you would have thought that the ones they do sell could run the core function of the OS smoothly!
I am really surprised that the Intel chip outperforms the 6630 for 2D? So the 6630 must only be better for 3D?
Is there anywhere that list 2D and 3D performance of different graphics cards to get some idea?
I may try adding the 8 RAM this week and see if it helpls at all. If it does, I wonder if there is a way to force the HD3000 to use even more RAM? i.e my modifying some of the preference or extension files somewhere.
If it doesn't I'm not sure what I will do. all this is logged with Applecare, but the machine was bought by my University, so returning it will be terribly inconvenient - if it is at all possible.
Buying a 15" MBPro is a very expensive way to achieve smooth Expose! I also will have unnecessarily ordered a superdrive external, and would then need to spec the MBPro with a SSD. And get an external HD too.
I love the mini, and the speed of the i7 + SSD is incredible, but jerky OS on something one uses 8 hours a day is just not acceptable.
The purchase is already inconvenient as I have to virtualise SL server to run some old academic software that needs Rosetta (but at leat that works).
    Ho hum...
Expose has been around for 8 years or so. I'm amazed modern hardware can't work it smoothly (even on a big display)
