Worst program EVER!

Frustrating! It takes 20 minutes or so to navigate the pop-ups and site re-directions to find what you need here (and I'm still not sure I have)...Premiere Elements 7.0 has to be the WORSE video editing program I've ever used. You would think that with the large development group Adobe had working on it that they could release a product that was ready to use and bug free. Why would they release a product with "known issues" all fixable with a little time and effort. Well we all know why...There are many companies who wait until there product has made it through BETA before releasing it...so yes...it can be done. I like many, have been using Photoshop for years and love it. It's the greatest! But for video editing...leave it to someone else. I recently bought PE 7.0 and CONSTANTLY get error/PE 7.0 has encountered a problem and must close etc. Not to mention that when I click on the text tool or try to get a file it will randomly crash to the desktop. Interface does not work properly either. And yes, my comp can handle it. I've been using Photoshop, Corel Paint, 3dsMAX etc for years with no problems...frustrating!

SMikeS,
Spending a lot of time with most Adobe products, the first problem that I see is Assets. The user is trying to use Assets that are not right for the program. This is probably 60% of the errors. Next, comes hardware, which comprises probably 30% of the errors encountered. Then, comes OE, which accounts for about 9%. Finally, come the real Bugs, for the remainder. These are just general averages and will be slightly different, depending on the exact program.
Now, since none of us works for Adobe, and hence cannot address the Bugs directly (Bug reports can, but they need to be filed with Adobe separately - Adobe does not have a presence in these fora, they only furnish us with server space), we can only help with specific problems.
I'd suggest that you take one of your problem Projects (pick the one giving you the most trouble) and completely outline it with as much detail, as you can. See this link for the type and detail, that I am referring to:
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6da89/3
Then, perhaps we can help you address your problems and get you into that "happy place," where you are editing, and not troubleshooting. If there are Bugs, that you are encountering, we'll help you file the necessary reports with Adobe. That is what these fora do best, as they are user-to-user only, but are populated with a lot of knowledgable and helpful people. Give us a crack at your problems, and maybe we can make them go away.
BTW, Steve Grisetti has a wonderful book on PE7 (plus one for PE2 that still has some very useful info, regardless of version #), that will likely get you up to speed and answer most questions. Well worth the $.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Time machine: worst program ever?

So before I tear all my hair out and liquidate all my family's apple stock, I figure I should make sure that time machine has, in fact, deleted all my data.
To reduce hard drive clutter I backed up all my data onto an external with time machine, then wiped and reinstalled OSX. After moving some of my essentials onto my internal HD and using my computer for a while I figured that I should start backing up the material on internal drive. Last night I turned time machine on, expecting it to create a second folder in the Backups.backupdb folder with my new internal hard drive name. I woke up to find that it had DELETED the other folder and ALL my business documents, pictures, music, text archive, email, music production files, and other backed up data!
Am I missing something here, i.e. my data is still somewhere? Or am I switching to another OS and company to invest in?

To see the backups of a different disk (different name), select your computer name in the sidebar of one of the "cascade" of Finder windows -- one that should have had those backups. Then you should see a folder in the center for each drive that was backed-up.
If that doesn't work, you may need to hold down the Option key while clicking the TM icon in your menubar, and use the +Browse Other Time Machine Disks+ option. The name is a bit misleading in this case, but if the backups are there, you can get to them this way.
But what you're doing, deleting things from your internal and depending on TM's copies, is a *very bad idea* for two reasons:
First, those backups aren't backups any more: they're your only copies. When (not if) your TM drive fails, they're probably lost.
Second, TM will, as it's drive gets near full, begin deleting it's oldest backups to make room for the new ones. So sooner or later, depending on how "deep" your backups are and how long those files were there, TM will delete them.
You need other copies of those files. Archive them to DVD, or get a second external disk and let TM back up both your internal and that external. The whole point of a backup is to have two copies of everything, in two different places, so when (not if) one drive/DVD/etc. fails, you still have the other.

  • Firefox 4 -- Is it the worst browser ever?

I was using Firefox 3.??? and was prompted to upgrade to a newer version. I agreed to up-grade to 3.6.16 but when I went to download this I was fed Firefox 4. I have tried using 4 for about two weeks on an old Vaio laptop running Windows XP. It is unbelievably slow and crashes in every other site. Watching video online? Forget it. I loathe this new browser.
I have just uninstalled 4 and reinstalled 3.6.16. This was very easy (a) download 3.6.16 from FileHippo or similar source. Go to your [drive name]:/programs/mozilla/firefox/uninstall folder and click on uninstall. Do not click the tab which uninstalls your personal bookmarks and add-ons etc. 4 is gone. Don't need to reboot. Just click on 3.6.16 and install. Everything up and running in one minute. 3.6.16 is what I expect from Firefox -- easy to use, lightening fast, and no site crashes (except when visiting this site, curiously enough). Will be staying with 3.6.16 for a year or so to give the nice folks at Mozilla time to (a) tar and feather those responsible for this fiasco then burn them at the stake (b) scrap 4 and (c) go straight to Firefox 5 without stopping at Go or picking up $200 as they pass.
So, my question, is Firefox 4 the worst browser ever? I dunno but it is certainly the worst Mozilla browser I've ever tried using. Do you agree? Discuss.

Downloaded version 4 today. Worst move of the day. I don't have the time to learn a whole new layout. It wasn't broken - don't fix it. Does NOT support Billeo which I use all the time. Deleted 4 and re-installed 3.6. Will NOT upgrade again.

  • Worst PS ever...

Before I begin my rant, apologies in advance to all PS CS4 fans, apologists, and Adobe employees. And please, no offhand assumptions about my experience level or lack of effort to get things running smoothly.
But, in the immortal words of Comic Book Guy, I'm compelled to say that CS4 is the "worst Photoshop ever".
I've been a PS user since version 3.0, have upgraded to every version since, and use Photoshop professionally as a photographer and graphic artist. When I moved to CS4, however, I never expected to encounter so many issues on so many fronts. I've fiddled with preferences, followed tips from this forum to "fix" GPU glitches, upgraded video drivers religiously, and remained mostly silent for 7 months since upgrading in hopes of eventually overcoming the legion of problems.
Sadly, I've been reduced to starting every CS4 session trembling with fear and bracing myself for frustration. Or, just slinking back to CS3 and actually getting some work done without heart palpitations.
Here are just a few of my own unresolved issues, many of which I think stem from Adobe's misguided decision to "roll their own" GUI in lieu of simply using the Windows APIs. (I'll reserve my opinion on how this homegrown grey-on-grey GUI happens to look and feel...)
    First, the DELAYS.
Making a selection, moving or resizing a window, painting; all these actions and more are preceded by a soul-wrenching delay of from 1 to 3 seconds. "Click - wait - wait - wait - drag". And no, my desktop is NOT underpowered (9 months old, Core 2 Quad CPU, 4GB RAM, RAID0 drives, running Vista SP1). Everything in CS4 (and ONLY CS4) is just slow, slow, slow.
Then those user interface "upgrades" ... death by a thousand cuts. Drop a file into PS? It's docked, even though I always work with floating windows. So I gotta tear it away, EVERY TIME. No choice in preferences.
And finally there's the "slow fuse". I'll work for an hour or two, and then BOOM. CS4 suddenly and completely loses track of where my mouse is, how fast it's moving, which buttons I've clicked, or where I've positioned the cursor. I'll start a selection box in the middle of an image and it snaps one edge to a random margin. Or the box defaults to a pixel-wide line. Or the brush size balloons to 500 pixels in diameter. Or the image zooms to 800% even though I'm not anywhere near the zoom tool.
There is NO WAY to work at this point, so I have to shut down PS, restart it and relight the slow fuse, working feverishly until things go haywire again. Now, this is NOT an issue with my hardware or the mouse. I've upgraded mouse drivers, tried two new mice (corded and wireless), all fruitless. These mouse issues don't occur in any other applications and I run some high-end CAD apps on this box.
OK, I'm done for now. Rant over. I feel a little better, getting it out of my system. I'll keep hoping Adobe will eventually address some of the more common issues.
Perhaps my particular PC is just unwilling to run CS4, though it runs everything else I throw at it without issue (including some legacy software I wouldn't expect to run at all). Maybe I'm just having some bad luck.
Anyway, thanks for listening. I'm gonna grab a beer and go hum a pleasant tune in the dark.

    >But, in the immortal words of Comic Book Guy, I'm compelled to say that CS4 is the "worst Photoshop ever".
    >I've been a PS user since version 3.0, have upgraded to every version since
I too have used PS since ver 3.0 and have upgraded to every edition except when they had an x.5 release. I've just upgraded to an i7 machine with 6 GB DDR3 and a Saphire ATI 4850 with 1 GB of RAM. My system and programs are on a 10,000 RPM VelociRaptor and I have two other 1T Seagates (all SATA II). I'm running 32 bit XP Pro SP 3. I had a few problems with the initial CS4 release and my original video drivers with OpenGL support, but since upgrading to the latest versions and optimizing my system per the Adobe instructions (Optimize performance of Photoshop CS4 on Windows XP and Vista), I've never had better Photoshop performance and have not seen the need to use RAID.
There must be something wrong with your system. You don't say what graphics card and driver you are using, but, as others have pointed out, many problems are related to the video card and driver. As to the mouse, what mouse are you using and are you using the built in windows drivers or the additonal software provided by the mouse vendor? I've had some trouble with my desktop Logitech wireless USB mouse. Windows will happily allow more than one mouse to be operative. I have an inexpensive Logitech USB mouse for laptops. When I have trouble (currently resolved), I would merely plug in the USB laptop mouse, which uses the built in Windows drivers and use the extra mouse, avoiding any need to reboot.

  • Blackberry Pearl- Why it's the worst phone ever made

Here's why I think the Blackberry Pearl is the worst phone ever made.
    1. I can't get photo's off of it. My G1 takes a few seconds. I've worked with this Pear for hours upon hours cannot get my photo's off of it. The Desktop manager really bites too no help there. I really dislike this phone. The software just as bad. I guess they were on the move when Desktop manager was getting written.
    2. The phone on occasions would lock on letters instead of numbers. There wasn't an intuitive way to get it unlocked. I found it more intuitive to get a my return from the IRS than it was to get the phone back to dialing numbers.
I'm having my kids dress up as a Blackberry Pearl for Halloween. I'm going to make a Halloween Movie Freddy Kruger attacks people with Blackberry Pearl the topper scene features unsuspecting Pearl user getting tied up and has them attempt to copy their photos off to a PC and the video gets put on Youtube for Christmas.
    Very unsatisfied with your product.
    Don Quixote

I want to join the fun here and list all the different reasons why I'm very unsatisfied with this phone.
The actual phone part of this phone is pretty slow.  It accepts a phone number almost 3 times slower than I can type it in.  Even typing a name on their handy search bar takes forever to get a result.  If I type to fast, it just ignores a couple of my numbers so I have to delete and retype, at the same super slow pace.  I'm guessing that it searches all sorts of contact and history lists to give me cool suggestions, and that's what makes it so slow.  Either way, it irritates me to no end that the basic reason I have this thing is slow as dirt.
All 3rd Party and Blackberry apps require the Blackberry data service.  Even though there's WIFI on this phone, you simply can't connect to anything except the Browser (and even the Browser requires some setting changes to bypass the upsell screen).  This phone CAN do 3rd party services and other applications without the Blackberry data service, but they just don't allow you to.
Sometimes my phone just turns off.  I don't normally mind the 3 minute boot up process, but when I'm in the middle of something and my phone turns off for no reason, it just compounds my frustration.
The keyboard freezes up all the time.  After a good 1-5 minute "please wait clock", I finally get a message saying there was an error and my input application had to be reset.  Sometimes it doesn't quite reset all the way and I have to pull the battery and again wait for the long boot up process.
Its a little unreliable.  Besides the phone turning off at random and the keyboard freezing, I still have problems other problems.  My bluetooth turns off and sometimes doesn't come back.  Once I had to get a new phone sent to me in order to correct that problem.  Pressing buttons doesn't always get a response, especially the green "call" button.  If the phone is bogged down, it just ignored commands, which is pretty frustrating especially if you press a button and accidently double enter a command that is both the "on" and "off" options.  Also, sometimes the screen fades out (like its suppose to) but doesn't come back when you press keys.  Or the external notifications just don't turn on.  It somestimes just doesn't read my memory card.  The zoom feature on my camera also got stuck.
Other small gripes involve having no caps lock, the SureType never learning from my typing ("Hey" always goes out as "Get"), its overall slowness, the looseness of the back casing, the low quality camera, and so much more.
I don't suggest this phone to anyone.

Worst phone EVER.  DO NOT BUY.
    * Constantly reboots
    * Constantly drops data connection
    * Totally ignores third-party email for about an hour on its own which is absolutely CRITICAL.
    * Will only get email immediately when its powered down, then up.
    * 3G coverage blows.

  • IPhoto is the lamest photo editing program ever!

Is it just me or is iPhoto the lamest photo editing program ever? I had photoshop elements on my windows machine and was happy my new MAC came with iphoto & iMovie. Now that I have tried to use it I find it doesn't do much in the editing department. Infact Picasa has more editing features.

So instead of helping me out you insult my intelligence? You are pretty brave over the internet. So why does Apple advertise their computers coming with all the software you need.
iPhot: iPhoto gives you everything you need to do everything you want with your photos. Keep them organized and easy to find in lots of different ways. Use powerful yet simple editing tools to perfect each shot.
iPhoto isn't even a "good" photo organizer. Picasa is better at organizing & editing and is free. So don't blame the price.
So I guess if I were as smart as you guys, I would ASSume that iMovie doesn't really edit movies either, just organizes them right? This was the only thing I hated about moving to MAC. Apple Fan boys are very annoying.

  • C3-01 The Worst phone ever nokia released....

C3-01 The Worst phone ever nokia released....bcz of no poor software, does not provide basic functions where other cheap phone do,
    touch screen Problem...and so on....

I contributed to this thread earlier:
     http:///t5/Cseries/C3-01-Problems-and-Limitations/m-p/1050133/highlight/false#M20370
Since then I've resolved the WAP problem; but as the OP has stated, the problems I've had with mine have been far and away more than all the phones I've had in the past -combined!
It fails on calls (I'm paying of the call, but nothing can be heard)..Today my touchscreen decided to go AWOL. and locked up..so I took out the battery, same again..then the battery AND the SIM card. Same again..It wouldn't unlock, the only buttons that worked were the push button ones...Then it decided it would work a little, and auto scrolled (Yes really!) the side bar..The it defaulted to the help screen without being touched (Battery out again)...then it worked as it should..but now...if I try to press an icon, it moves up the screen as I press it, so I can't actually open (for example) messages or my address book. If I hold the menu icon down for three seconds, it will eventually open up, but the rest won't..but it might all change in an hour or two..So yes, i agree with the original message it is probably the worse phone Nokia has released.

  • Beyond frustrated with worst computer ever

I think I may have the most unlock/worst macbook pro ever created. Hang with me here.
Background: Back in February my computer started becoming unresponsive and i went to the Apple store and turns out i had a dent in the side of my computer, an impact that likely busted the hard drive. Got that fixed and my computer ran great.....until about three weeks ago. Same thing started to happen again (stuff stopped working, lots of pinwheels, computer becoming completely unresponsive), I take it in again and lo and behold, there is another dent in the side of the computer, damaging the hard drive.....again. My computer barely leaves my desk other than to take it to class in a protective case, so this is perplexing to me, but i get it fixed anyways.
Everything is all good for a day or two and it starts happening again. Great. The pinwheel shows up constantly, pages stop loading and crash almost every page...forcing me to manually power down the computer almost every time with the power button. Computer isn't even usable at this point. I go in to the apple store....again....and they tell me the last repair missed the real problem: the cable attaching to the hard drive. They fix this for free and i'm excited because this should be my ticket to a workable computer! Two days later....same problems again. Computer functions briefly well, then just completely freezes up, pages start crashing, and buttons (wifi, battery, finder arrow keys) start vanishing. I call Apple this time, on the phone, and they tell me what the 'REAL' problem is! When they went to fix the hard drive, they copied a portion of my hard drive onto it to save some of my info, and that portion was likely corrupted and so THAT is the problem! I deleted my hard drive info with the help of the Apple guy and reinstalled the OS software, in essence a brand-new computer and OS system.....with a week old hard drive.
Everything was going great, computer was running faster than ever for a few days and occasionally a page would crash or computer would become unresponsive every ten or so hours, nothing like before, so I thought 'this is normal, my computer is finally okay. Last night, the same problems from before came back. The pinwheel progressively appeared more, pages started crashing almost every load, it took 10-15 min for my computer to start up and for the apps to show up, buttons (their text) on the top right of the screen and on finder are completely gone...again, the app store doesn't load and just produces a grey screen, etc, etc. My computer is fast for about half an hour, then just becomes completely unresponsive again and I have to manually power it down.
Chrome also loses all my log-ins every time the computer gets turned off, despite my settings being set to 'remember me' and in the past never having this problem.
tl;dr my computer has been 'repaired' three separate times in the last two weeks with three different solutions and is still at times completely unusable, crashing, buttons vanishing, etc. Worst computer ever. What is the issue?

  • Worst Service Ever! Who can I talk to next?

    WORST SERVICE EVER!
I recently went to the Masonville apple store for service on my apple iPhone 5. The speakers blew on it, making music or sounds sound fuzzy and diminished, and after running diagnostics, my battery health was found to be right on the line of "needs replacing and dying"( apparently not good enough). After speaking to the tech, my phone was sent to the back for repair and I was told to wait 30 minutes for it to be done. After returning 45 minutes later, and waiting another 20 after i was somehow lost in the line of other customers waiting to purchase their $900 devices. I understand sometimes things don't always go to plan, so I didn't make a complaint or anything. It was only after getting my iPhone back from repair, only to have the speakers still blown that I started to become fed up. They blamed a small chip in the back of my phone as the cause of my speaker problems. How does non conductive glass interfere with the electromagnetic signals that speakers use to generate sound? Even if glass did somehow short out my phone, that would cause the speakers to not work at all, rather than just loose a great deal of quality. My question now is, what is the next level of apple hierarchy I can deal with because the Masonville store clearly does not seem to be running at the standards that apple claims to posses.

they blamed a small chip in the back of my phone as the cause of my speaker problems. How does non conductive glass interfere with the electromagnetic signals that speakers use to generate sound?
It doesn't. But a chip indicates some sort of impact or drop which is most likely what the technician was referring to being the cause of the speaker problem, not that the glass is damaged.
what is the next level of apple hierarchy I can deal with.
You can try another Apple Store, if there's one in your area, or calling Apple Support and asking to speak with Customer Relations. But if the technician has logged this as being a situation of accidental damage, there's probably nothing they can do.
    Good luck.

  • Worst update ever - my computer loads slowly, is incredibly sluggish, and totally unusable.

TThis has to be the worst update ever. My Mac (if it loads...50% success), boots slowly, is incredibly sluggish, and completely unusable.

Don't shout. Yes, we will be seeing an update soon. Version X.1 is always released just a few weeks after the initial release. Apple tries to repair the most disruptive bugs in that first update, and does more finetuning in the second, which usually is released about two or three months after the initial release. That's the usual routine.
On some Mac's people seem to have performance issues like yours. I understand your not happy, but I suggest you'll be patient some more and update when 10.1 or 10.2 comes out. When it does run smooth on your machine, you'll find out it's the best upgrade (it's an upgrade, not an update) since many years.
Do as Canyonlight wrote in the fourth entry of this topic. Just use you backup and go back to Mavericks and wait it out. Nothing wrong with that. Upgrading is not a necessity but a choice.
