Worth buying a MBP right now?? (Are WiFi/router issues being addressed?)
I was planning to buy a new Macbook Pro, and then I began reading about all the wifi connection issues. Is Apple working on a fix for this? I am no techie and the thought of having to debug a router configuration so that I can get my MBP connected to the internet is not appealing. What is the status of this issues, as of Dec 29, 2008? (I plan to use my MBP downstairs via a wireless connection to my PC upstairs that is cabled into the wall and uses a cable modem. I'll buy the router for the PC when I purchase the MBP.) Thanks for any input!
If you look at various update description pages, you'll see Airport is addressed for certain reasons:

Suffice it to say, Apple hasn't been standing still. One problem is, neither has the industry, and 802.11n is still a draft standard which no one company seems willing to settle on.

I wanna buy a new MBP retina 15" before my uni starts in fall so after like a month and a half. I already have a 2011 MBP but wanna get a new and better one so I am just wondering what is the latest 15" retina by Apple? and when is the approximate date for the release of new retinas? like I mean if Apple has a date for new releases like it has for iPhone and iPad usually like to know if it worth waiting or not
ThanksI haven't heard anything as far as a new retina models. I just upgraded from a 13" mid 2012 non-retina pro to a 13" late 2013 retina pro. Either way I don't think there will be any major improvements to their retina pros if they do release a new one in the fall. I would say go ahead and get your retina now. Also Apple has a reuse and recycle program along with a student discount. You can take your old mac in and possibly get a store credit towards a new one but I doubt you'll get a huge discount. For my last MacBook, I would only have gotten about $350. But make sure you get what you need in it when you buy it because you can't upgrade the parts.

MBP retina early 2013 wifi-connectivity issue

helpHI. I opened my late MBpro 15inch a week ago and heard a funny noise .Like a pop. Shortly after I noticed a crack in the LED screen. I went to a Genius Bar and they told me that the screen damage was not covered by my warranty ..I then went home and noticed that the crack had spread right across the screen. I also noticed that I would get a black screen on 2 occasions that was fixed by resetting the PRAM. I decided that I'd have to fork out the $900 to have it fixed. I went to the Apple store today and booked it in. The tech was sympathetic and said he would talk to his manager. When he returned he was apologetic and said that I would have to pay. Later today my wife picked up the product and was told that we did not have to pay as they could see that the product was faulty but not due to negligence. Good outcome.

I have two routers in the house and have access on one router and not the other to my iPhone 4S. Any suggestions? One router is NETGEAR, which I have access to and the other is ARRIS. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
You're going to have to explain what you mean by "have access on one router and not the other to my iPhone 4S".
What are you talking about? Can you not access the internet when connected to one of them, but you can with the other? Can you not sync over WiFi but you can on the other? Do you not know the password for one of them? -
Would it be worth buying the 3G iPad now with the upcoming changes with AT&T if the only use from it would be minor and for apps such as netflix?
I know the 3G could be extremely useful for me. I am a teacher in a building where internet access is restricted for obvious reasons. I use my own broadband card to access some of the restricted sites for legitimate educational reasons. I'm sure there are policies against it, but the students benefit greatly from increased access (with supervision).
For example, Google image searches are blocked, but, with help, my special education students can use image searches to find illustrations for self-written books. (They orally tell me a story, then I write the book in their own words -- more and less -- and use the photos they find as illustrations. These "selfmade" books really hold their attention and encourage reading because it is their story!) I can also do my own searches for pictures, maps, graphs, etc. for use in lessons. I've created lots of PPT presentations using images from the internet to make them interesting.
Videos are also blocked, but if I am able to select and monitor what is chosen, many Vimeo and YouTube videos are incredible resources.
Using an Ipad connected to a whiteboard or a projector will be quite a bit more convenient than using my laptop. People who regularly work outside away from wifi locations but need regular internet access might also find the 2 GB limit too restrictive -- especially if they use online apps or send/receive relatively large files regularly. -
Why does osx yosemite crash the wifi router?
Upgraded to Yosemite, with MBP retina and my wifi router a Netgear CG 3100 D 28 PAUS crashes every time I connect up. I have turned off wifi and then forgot the connection and then reconnected with no joy. It continued to crash the router forcing it to reboot. I reinstalled back to mavericks and there was no problem and the wifi and router were stable and worked well. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

I have the same problem than you. After updating to Yosemite yesterday, my internet connection through a Netgear CG 3100 cable modem stopped, but only with the updated computer, the rest of my devices seems to connect well. After going back to Mavericks, everything work well again.
Is there might be an incompatibility between Yosemite and this cable modem?

I plan on buying a new I Pad wit wifi and cell from Apple. But I don't want to select a cell carrier right now. Q 1: Do I have to select a carrier at purchase? and Q 2, In the meantime will I be able to get on line at home using my Cox Internet wi fi? Thanks.
Thanks for the help. Now I can feel comfortable in not having to sign up for cellular when I buy, esp. Since I'll be using my new IPad mostly at home on my Cox wi fi. Then I can see, in using the i pad, how often I'd actually use the cellular, and where. This can help decide which type of cell plan I get. Small problem it may seem, but a very helpful answer. I don't think I see my situation addressed. I have one mobile me account and a separate appleID for purchases. I have 4 devices and my wife has two. Right now they are all using the same mobile me account to sync just the calendar and address book.
1.) I want to add email syncing for my 4 devices and email syncing for my wife's two devices separately, but we want to sync and share the same calendar and address book. Is this possible?
2.) I also have 5 different calendars, one for work, one for home, one for... etc. Is there a way to have different devices only sync certain calendars and not others or is it an all or nothing deal?

STo begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photosstream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
Generally speaking it is not a good idea to share an iCloud account between different people, it often results in contracts, calendars et cetera being deleted by others. Saying that however you can add secondary iCloud accounts to your devices at settings> mail, contacts, calendars. Secondary accounts do not have all the features of a primary account, but are often very useful. Because you can enable or disable each individual feature of an iCloud account, you can cover almost any situation by using secondary accounts. -

Yes, as long as you purchase the GSM version (AT&T) and your Indonesian carrier supports an iPad with a micro-sim. Unlike the iPhone in the USA, the iPad is not locked to a carrier.

I was about to buy a MBP in the Apple store, and not one sales person knew how Apple was going to handle this.
Any ideas guys?There really isn't anything wrong with OS 10.4 Tiger. It is mature and stable. If you don't mind waiting a few months, that's one thing... but I wouldn't hold off on getting a MacBook Pro if I were looking for something now just for the new OS release. There are going to be some nice changes and enhancements... but it is not a revolutionary update. Also... as the OS has only been tested by developers, there will likely be some real world situations that the developers overlooked. It's impossible for them to try every situation that every consumer may encounter. At least if you get a MacBook Pro now, you have an OS that has been around for a few years and will perform as it should. I would suggest that you wait for a few weeks after 10.5 is released just to see if people are having problems.

according to the tech specs' required to use iClode it seems that Apple is ignoring it's promisses to their valued costumers since 2001..I have to go to an Apple store and buy a new MacBook and iPhone..mm yeah right we are all swimming in cash.
