Worth it for an older iPod?

I spent the better part of my day trying to undo Version 7 and going back to Version 6 - and finally did, thanks to help here. After all my problems and after having glimpsed Version 7 for the few hours I had it, I'm wondering: is it worth upgrading if you have an older iPod? Mine is an old 30g, with the buttons and the wheel, no video, no color. All the changes seem geared to take advantage of the newer models with all their bells and whistles. Should I just hold steady with what I have or upgrade - once the bugs are worked out - is there any advantage?

I have a 60GB iPod Photo. I don't recall being able to access my iPod's playlists from inside iTunes. With v7, I can by clicking on the on the > arrow. At work, I Play music and audiobooks via iTunes that are on my iPods HD.
However, I haven't figured out how to do this in iTunes 7 yet. I need to finish reloading the iPod after iTunes erased it after switching form auto-sync to manual sync. It takes a few hours to load 40+ GB of stuff.

are the newer ipod classics (80GB and above) compatible with docks for the older ipod classics (20GB)?)

I have an iPod Touch 2 with iOS 4.2.1.  This is the highest version that works on this device.  I checked it once and it had to do with iOS 4.3 and above only supporting the higher RAM CPUs on newer devices.
Apple does make it harder than it needs to be.  There still remain a number of apps available on iTunes that will work but they are hard to find because you must manually look at each app specs to see if the app supports an iOS below 4.3
App backups are your friend since iTunes has no way to keep older version of apps.

  • Will there come a software update for the "older" ipods?

Hi all, will there come a software (firmware?) update for the new menu of the Ipod Video?
I have an Ipod video 60Gb and I'm really happy with it, but I found out that the newest ipods have some extra functionality in menu structure, which enhances the search.
    Thanks for your answers!

    Thank you for your answer.
Well, they might not have had the possibility then...
Maybe it's just one of those features that were invented later...
My wife has an Ipod Mini and it has less menu possibilities than my ipod video...
I have posted the request, but as stated it will be very unlikely that they will answer the request.
Thanks anyway, ipod is really the best!

Unlikely. If Apple had wanted this feature for older
iPod videos, they would've implemented it in the last
    update.
However anything is possible so if you want it,
    suggest it to Apple here.

  • How Do I download older apps for a older IPod

I wanted to download facebook but everytime I try it says I need iOS 6.0, and says cancel idk what to do. Help?

Go to iTunes on a computer or on a device running iOS 7 (or at least iOS 6 in your case) and find the app you want and download it using your Apple ID and password.
Now go back to your iPod and go to the App Store and tap updates at the bottom right, then tap Purchased at the top.  Find the app on the list that you just downloaded on the computer (or other device) and tap the cloud to download it.  If it has an alternate version available that is compatible with your iOS, it will prompt you and allow you to download that.

  • How can I get a new central bottom for my classic ipod?

Hi everybody, I have a classic ipod 5th generation from 2007. It works perfect except that the central bottom is like fixed or stuck and I have to press a lot to get it change the screen. I took it to the oficial suport here, but they said they have no replacement parts here, and toask for it is so expensive. Does any body knows if I can get it in another way? Thanks.

    Hi Aladanza,
Have a look at iFixit's store, they have a lot of parts which are made even for the older iPods. http://www.ifixit.com/Store/iPod
For the direct part try this, though you might be better off searching for it yourself as I'm not sure of the exact details of your iPod: White) http://www.ifixit.com/iPod-Parts/iPod-Video-Click-Wheel-Button-White/IF195-025

Also, when doing the repair you may want to use iFixit's guide: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod+5th+Generation+%28Video%29+Click+Wheel+Button+R eplacement/611

  • Problems with displaying pictures for albums on iPod screen

    Hello!
I have an iPod with 60gigs and since I've updated to software version 1.1 I couldn't display any new CD-covers on the iPod screen related to the album that is playing. Strange thing is that when I play the same song from the iPod in my iTunes, then the cover is shown in the bottom left corner of iTunes.
I had it working with the factory software version 1.0, those covers were still displayed with v1.1 but I simply can't add new covers.
Now I have updated my iTunes to v.6.0.4.2 and the iPod software to 1.1.1 and it still doesn't work. Additionally all the covers I have added while running with iPod Software version 1 are gone now...
Still, the previously added covers are being displayed in iTunes when I play a song from the iPod with my computer...but not on the screen of the iPod when I play it there...
Any Ideas? Thank you very much!

Have you tried the suggestions here?

Incidentally, it would appear that you have the iPod 5th generation (iPod video) because you refer to software versions 1.0 and 1.1 and 1.1.1. Those are for the iPod video.
This is the forum for the older iPod that used to be known as the iPod photo. That particular model now has software version 1.2.1.
You need to be specific about which model you have, and if it is indeed the iPod video, then the correct forum is here.

I have an older iPod Touch. I charge the battery but it drains real fast. Is there a fix for this? How much would it be to replace the battery? I love my iPod but the battery is always dead.

    Hello,
I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation, running IOS 6.1.2. I understand you are having problems with your Ipod/Ipad/Iphone, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
Its an Old Ipod, give me a break... just get a new one, or leave it always plugged in
You could also get a new battery (but its not worth it... just buy a whole new unit)

i had one for a long time, then when i got the ipad i didn't realize they would all still work under one so i set up the second one on that
then when i got the new iphone i put in the info for the first and main one from my mac pro and it would not work at all, and i knew it was right, then it asked me to create a new one or i couldnt finish the setup

  • HT204053 I have a small older iPod with one email address and passcode, & I have created an "Apple ID" yesterday with a different email address & different password, for my new iPOD Touch5:  Does that ID & pw now apply to my iTunes?

Does creating a new Apple ID with user name, email and password ( for my new iPod Touch 5  CHANGE and my existing iTunes account username and pw ?
    Thanks....Gary

Your new iPod Touch will use what ever ID you specify in Settings>iTunes & App Stores when you purchase apps and media from the iTunes and App stores, regardless of the ID you may have been using before on your older device.

  • I lost my itunes after syncing and older iphone to my powermac g4.  Originally I had an older ipod nano that I would sync to the g4 and everything was fine. Lost itunes music even though preferences had been set in advance for not automatically syncing.

My itunes library had been fine.  I had been using an older ipod nano to sync with my itunes library and had been doing manual syncs, with the preferences in itunes set for not allowing "ipods or iphones" to sync automatically.  I found out that apple had a program to replace the battery on this older ipod nano, so I sent it in.  It was great, they didn't have an exact replacement and sent me a later ipod nano.  However, this ipod nano is so new - I will have to get a newer computer with a later operating system to use it.
So, I thought I'd use my old iphone to listen to my old playlists.  I thought the preferences were set for not automatically syncing iphone to itunes.
I've had problems in the past with the syncs with this iphone and my computer because of the USB port (1.1).  I'm thinking this was the problem.
The apple store did something to update the software on my iphone when it wasn't working one day. I think that when I tried to sync the iphone to the g4 cube via the old port (1.1) it basically wiped out everything on my itunes.  Whatever was my selected playlist for my iphone - that was the only music
that remained on my computer and the iphone.  I only had about 20 songs purchased on my library, but alot of music that had been downloaded, I gave away those original cds.  I did have a back up on my external drive, but that thing died a few weeks ago from some random power outtages we had this fall.
I'm not looking to purchase retrieval software or have some outside third party to retrieve it for me.  It's not that much music lost.  I just wanted confirmation that this is what happened: that my old iphone sync is what erased the music.

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

If it is otherwise working, you can change the battery.  If you want to do it yourself, you can buy the part on eBay and other online sources.  Just make sure you know the type of iPod you have so that you get the right part.

There are online guides, including the ones on this web site
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod
(Note:  Most replacement batteries come with plastic/nylon tools seen in the guides.)
You can also have a repair business do the work.
If it is just the battery, if you do a Reset (using the Menu and Select buttons) while it is connect to your computer, I think it should still be recognized by iTunes.
