Worth the price and more

This is a replacement for the older Motion. You can open older project in this version just as you have been able to in previous versions. The new keyer actually works and for $50 is is well worth it.

Thank you for this info. I'm glad Motion 5 can open Motion 4 projects (that's truly a relieve! ).
For me to know if it is really worth the price, I'd also need to know if Motion projects can be opened with Final Cut Pro 3 (not FCPX). And by that I mean if I'll still get the interaction there was between FCP3 and Motion 4, or would I have to export every project to a movie and then import it into FCP3? I know I'll lose the new features like rigging and thinks like that, but...

  • Is a MacBook Pro w/ Retina display worth the price?

    Apple community-
Looking at purchasing portability for school- going to work on an MFA in graphics/web/new media, and need some assistance.  I've an iMac from 2007, seems to run flawlessly, but looking at options for taking school with me while at work- I'm currently travelling five different states in my current position.  The new MacBook Pro with Retina display looks stunning, albeit expensive, but has many features that worry me.
For instance, everything is completely bolted/soldered/non-upgradeable, so any desire of modification needs to be purchased pre-production, right?  Also, the big issue with their PCIe "Flash based" storage... exactly what is this, and why is it so freaking expensive?  I've read different reports on Apple using various manufacturers, so not every MacBook as the same storage model, no third party attempts at upgrades, etc..  If I'd like to install numerous, monstrous programs, such as the entire Adobe Creative Suites, 3D Max, Maya, Final Cut, and so forth, I'll need a high capacity memory drive, as I assume most, if not all of these, need a root drive to install, and not simply an external hard drive.  I still make CDs/DVDs, so a SuperDrive is another $80.
Chatting with an Apple representative, she stated that there is "only one model that will run my software at peak performance," which was the 15-inch model, starting at $2k; also, my software needed a "dedicated graphics card,"  I'm not too certain that it needs all that, and a high-end PC laptop could certainly run all of my demands- but let's face it, this is an Apple discussions community, and I'm plain simply accustomed to working on an Apple computer.  Plus, I don't really care for Windows 8.
Should I possibly aim to purchase an older model used, something without Retina, but with more storage?  Is Retina that big of a deal for a laptop?  I also considered the possibility of just toting a Mac Mini with a 13-inch Cintiq tablet; though it does need a constant power supply, it's still quite portable.
Thoughts?  Am I just overthinking this?  I've been expecting a MacBook to be expensive, but this could be pushing it a bit.
    Cheers!

    guiparent,
whether it’s worth the price or not is an entirely subjective opinion. My own choice was to buy a used non-Retina 13-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and replace its hard drive with a SSD; but since I don’t use graphic-intensive apps such as the Adobe Creative Suite, my own choice would most likely not be best for you. Given your graphic design background, if you find the non-Retina displays sufficient for your needs, I’d recommend that you consider a used 15-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. That model has memory sockets, so you can replace/upgrade the RAM if needed; its internal disk can be replaced by/upgraded with any 2.5-inch 9.5-mm-high SATA hard disk or SSD; and it has a built-in SuperDrive.

  • Is the Apple Universal Dock worth the price?

Hi everyone, I was thinking of buying a Universal Dock. What do you think of it? Is it worth the price tag of € 49? I know that you get a sync cable, USB power adapter and apple remote (which alone have a value of 20+30+20=70) but what are your thoughts?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Thanks for your fast answer
True, although one could argue that you can connect an external speaker without the dock, the dock simply looks nicer.
But, you can't control your iPod with the Apple remote without the dock
So.. I guess it's worth the price tag

I've tried the new iWork (on a friend's new MacBook Pro) and feel very disappointed. I'm gonna stick with my old '09 version. It appears to have lost utility, and is now easily surpassed by Word 07. Dear Apple, from a veteran user: In your rush to market, you have dropped the basket on this one! Is a new version that's worth the money and hype coming?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
A lot of users have complained about the lack of features of the new iWork version. However, I'm sure Apple will add features with more updates in the future, like with Final Cut Pro X. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6049?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Until then, you can carry on using iWork '09, or try Microsoft Office 2011 or even LibreOffice, which is free and open-source

please advise, your input will be rewarded.

    Ravi,
I have almost same Nancy's problem. I change tax code indicator on ME12 from N0 to N2, after that, I made the invoice verification on MRKO for a consignment material, however tax code N0 (original) was taked for the withdrawal.
    I followed up notes:
Note 87860 - Consignment: determining tax code as of 4.0
140675 - Consignment: Determination of tax code transition
But these notes doesn't apply for 4.7. Do you know any note that apply on this version?
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think that a software update from Apple will solve the issues that you are having. You have a rogue installation. After you posted I have just done the following:
Disk Utility can verify  my partitioned Volume (including my boot disk) AND REPAIR the non-boot disks on the same Volume without a glitch. It repairs the non-boot disks containing data smoothly.
I have used Mail to send some mails from some Yahoo and Hotmail accounts to my Thunderbird client containing GMail accounts - absolutely normal.
I have iLife '09 but my iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09 open in a jiffy and I see no issues here. I have 6GB RAM (Maximum) on an early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 750GB hard drive partitioned with 120GB reserved for the Boot Drive.
I am sorry that I cannot help further but I am sure there must be a way to reinstall the software without having to revert to restoring your ML backup. I have two clones and if you have such I would attempt to do that through that rather than through Time Machine - that is of course if you have a cloned drive.
    Good luck!

Im looking for a MacBook that is worth the money and decent for gaming and editing, any suggestions?
    There all so AWESOME!

Then you are best to get a Macbook Pro. Your real aim should be the graphics card.
You won't be doing really good gaming on a discrete graphics card sharing RAM.
Depending of coarse what games you play.
eg. card games / COD games.

Delete some stuff to make room on the device.
iCloud is not local storage and has nothing to do with your situation.

It was fine until i updated to iOS 5

    Have you tried:
    1. Resetting your iPad; hold down the Sleep and Home button for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.
    2. Turn OFF your router for 30 seconds and ON again.

  • Worth the price?

I'm looking for a new laptop, and really like apple computers, but can't ignore the fact that the apple macbook pros cost basically double that of laptops by other companies of equivalent specs. Is it really worth it? I can buy 2 HP/Toshiba/Gateway/Compaq/Dell laptops for the price of one apple, and I'm not sure I can justify the price difference. Can anyone make a convincing argument?

  • 3.5- worth the price?

I have a G4 iBook and a Core Duo iMac.
FCE HD runs, but slowly, on the iMac.
Does the upgrade really offer enough to justify the price? (Yes, I've read Apple's promo lit)

It all depends on your needs, Ron.
Being able to keyframe filters is no big deal as there are workarounds and most users probably don't want to do it in any case!
Dynamic RT previews are not essential as you can see the effect on a still frame or if you want movement you can use the left and right arrow keys.
However, if you have an Intel Mac, the ability to run the program at full speed (together with the above facilities) is well worth the upgrade price.
Most G4 and G5 users would probably be better off sticking with FCE3.
    Ian.

  • Is MacBook Pro worth the price difference vs. MacBook?

    Friends,
Is MBP a good bang for the buck, vs MacBook, for the Logic hobbiest?
I am a student, ready to buy a new computer and all new software to replace my eMac 1.25GHz (that runs Logic Pro 7 and Adobe Creative Suite 1). I plan to use Logic Pro 8 for MIDI and software instruments, with occasional recording of DJ mix sets.
After academic discount, MacBook Pro starts at $750 more than MacBook, but when upgraded to the same RAM, HDD, and processor, the MBP costs $400 more than the MB. I am aware of all technical differences between the two systems, even expecting a serious update to MBP soon.
Would you post your opinions, please?
    Thank you.

Hmm I say go for the Macbook and save yourself a bunch of cash!
Like you have found out, buying a Macbook and upgrading it yourself (HDD and RAM) is far far far cheaper than either buying it from Apple or going with the Macbook Pro.
I'd suggest literally buying the base spec in terms of RAM and HDD, and replacing these yourself with a bigger HDD and more RAM. Neither will void your warranty as they are user replaceable and Apple provide instructions on how to change them on their website.
You could drop 2GB (they might even support 3 or 4 now) of RAM into a MB for less than $40 and a fast 300GB HDD isnt gonna cost you much more than $175-200. Once those are in, the difference in spec between your upgraded MB and the MBP doesnt seem so great, whereas the price is still hugely different!
The only time I would suggest going for the MBP is for graphics. Even then I think they are a little overpriced. I have the same NVidia card that was shipping in the MBP's in my iMac and I work in 3D graphics...to be honest, the difference in graphical performance between my MB (same spec as my iMac without graphics driver) and iMac is minimal.
The only other decider would be how many FireWire/USB ports you would use as the MBP has more.
I've considered upgrading to a MBP myself, but the specs just arent attractive enough at the moment and Im waiting for an update which will hopefully come soon, but this would be purely for my graphics work. For my Logic use, the MB handles everything I want to do no problem at all.
    Hope this helps.

  • Random crash leaves me without a phone for the evening and more...

I've had no major problems (just minor annoyances) with the iPhone, since buying it the day it was released, until last night. I went out to the bar and was showing off the phone to some friends (surfing the web and YouTube videos) when, with just my luck, the phone resets (not the typical crash to the home screen I’ve seen). After the phone reset and began to power back on the screen said "Please Connect to iTunes." I thought this was strange as I had a fully charged battery before going out and figured that I could probably just reset the phone again to get past this. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. At this point there was nothing I could do to get my phone working again as I'd lost ALL functionality of my device (except stylish paper weight). I thought this is just plain ridiculous as now I’m going to be stuck without a phone for the rest of the night hoping no emergency comes up where I’m going to need it (thankfully the rest of the night was to the most part uneventful). I’ve never had something like this happen, that is where I can’t use the device, to any of the previous half-dozen or so phones I’ve owned. But that was that and there was nothing I could do until I got home several hours later.
After finally arriving home I quickly connected the phone to iTunes which of course began the restore process. For the most part the process went fairly smooth but did take some time (about 10 minutes with all the verifying/restoring). During the process iTunes recognized my last backup, applied that to my phone, and reactivated the phone with AT&T. Everything was quite painless until finding out that iTunes doesn't quite back up everything which I've now found out and included a list of everything lost:
... Photos from my Camera Roll (this is the worst, lesson learned)
... Wi-Fi known networks and their passwords
    ... Mail account passwords
... Mail account messages (all messages had to be downloaded again)
... Calendar events that were recurring now appear twice
... All music/videos/photos had to be resynchronized
I'm still a little shocked that the phone can crash to this degree, at anytime, where you'll lose complete functionality of the device until you connect to iTunes. I mean come on what is not functioning properly that won’t allow me to restart/reset the phone? Good thing I wasn’t on Vacation or else I would’ve been totally screwed for the trip. Also, this was a lesson learned for me to backup my Camera Roll photos as I just never really thought about it before. Everything else lost was just an inconvenience in having to manually add passwords back, read/delete mail messages again, and delete duplicate recurring calendar events.
I just wanted to share my bad experience and hopefully Apple will continue to improve this device whereas it doesn't become completely useless for the evening. I still love my phone and this is by far the most trouble I’ve had with it.

Yeah, it would be nice if the backup contained a little more well backup. The Camera Roll photos should be synced or at least have an option to do so. Mail messages and passwords can't take up that much space and could easily be encrypted (again have an option to not back up if so desired). As for the duplicate calendar events I think it's just flaky with using Outlook to begin with.
    ...feedback has been left =)
