Worth waiting for new OS for Macbook

I would like to purchase a Macbook, but i was wondering if it's worth waiting till october for the new operating system. Are they just going to put Leopard on the same macbooks? or are they going to upgrade the laptop entirely to handle the new OS? If they are just going to put the new OS on the same laptop, then i'll just upgrade, but if they are going to change the laptop significantly other than just the OS, i'll wait. So whats the deal?

burtonforever,
OS upgrades and hardware revisions are completely independent. If a given hardware product is refreshed anything close to an OS upgrade, it is only coincidental.
In other words, Leopard will just come on the same machines that are being produced now, with the exception of any machines that get a refresh in the interim.

I have just gone from PCM to MacBook Pro retina and would like to now go to imac. Is it worth waiting for retina on imac and when will it arrive

I'm not Klaus but can give an opinion on this part:
As a Mac man yourself do you think that the retina display is worth waiting for?
I'm 65, have used Macs since 1989, and struggle with displays, cataracts, and bifocals. What I've seen of the Retinas in stores is that text size gets sacrificed for image quality. There are quite a few complaints about Retina in the MacBook Pro forums about not being able to increase the size of menu text without it getting fuzzy.
My iMac 27-inch is about a year old and I can set the display res from its default of 2560x1440 to 1920x1080 and everything is sharp. I understand that handy trick will not work for either the older hi-res macbook pros or the Retinas, so I don't expect it for any other Macs.
Speculation on Apple policy and new product releases is actiually not allowed by the Terms of Use around here so I doubt you'll get an answer to the "when" part. Anyone who does answer "when" is either guessing it up or violating a non-disclosure agreement!   Apple plays its cards close to its vest and we average users only know "when" when Apple posts the announcement.

  • Is it worth Waiting for New MacBook Pro 2012..

I just got a new Macbook Pro , is it worth waiting till next 2012 when the new one comes out ?
Any idea what the new would look like in terms for configuration and design..

    Thanks Shootist007,
I can customise my phone, tablet and mediaplayer as I like (thanks to the guys from XDA), it syncs and streams between my tablet and media player. I can integrate and transfer files, messages, contacts, etc between my phone, wifi media player and tablet without being stuck to an itunes interface.  No funny apple conversion/compression tools required for viewing files across platforms, etc. It comes with most programs i use by default, hence no need to get much special or full version apps from the google market place.  Dont get me wroing, Im not shooting down Apple, I just look forward to the day, they offer such functionality by default.
I dont mind not having usb 3, so thats ok, quite like thunderbolt.  Its the retina display, and HD type that Im more concerned about.  And rumours of them doing away with a dvd drive, I still wud like to have one, even in this day and age of wireless/cloud everything.  Im sure by June, I would defintely have enought saved away for a 15"/17" model.
Yip, my iTunes library is a mess, only because I started it all wrong, having music folders all over the place, hence I need my own laptop to consolidate and start a fresh itunes library on a fresh laptop.  Also since its a work laptop, I often have to delete stuff for space reasons.
Yes, as an IT Auditor I understand the concept of buying tech today, and by tommorrow its old :-)
Thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate it very much, and Im really keen to make the crossover to Apple (as 90% of my friends all have Apple macs or macbooks), then hopefiully I will crossover to the iphone, tablet, etc.

  • Should I get a 2013 macbook air, a macbook pro 13 inch, a regular macbook pro or wait for the next generation of haswell macbook pros?

So im a little confused, i dont know what macbook should i get.
    I want a macbook for:
    surf the web
Do some school work like powerpoint, excel, word etc.
    store music and pictures
This macbook i will probably have it for like 3 years so i wanna make sure the macbook i choose will last.
I really would like a macbook pro but the thing is that i`ve have been hearing that a new generation of retina macbook pros will be coming this fall so i wanna know your opinion if it is worth waiting for the next gen of macbooks.
    thanks

For what your doing, a $400 PC laptop will do and if it gets lost or stolen (as long as you make backups) it's really no big deal. Buy another.
A Mac will set you back almost $2000 for the same performance by the time you thrown in the 3 year warranty, tax and backup drives etc.
The higher end Mac's closer to $3000.
Also after 3 years after spending so much money you want to fix it to keep it going, a cheap PC you just get a new one.
In some instances it's not smart to get a Mac, they are often a target for theft and if your young, your prey.

  • Do you think it's worth getting an ipad mini or waiting for an ipad(5th gen)

I really like the retina display on the ipad (4th gen) but I also like the portability of the ipad mini.  Do you think it's worth waiting for the ipad (5th gen) or do you think it will still be significantly less portable than a mini despite it being thinner.

There is always a new model coming out, for better or worse. Which means if you always hold out for the newest and 'best' you'll always be waiting.

  • Wait for rev B?

    Hi, all.
What's the word on rev B Intel iMacs? Are they worth waiting for, or are people generally pleased with their rev A? I know there are no certain answers to such questions, but I was just curious what iMac users here thought. I have a great promo deal for the iMac that expires soon, and I'm wondering whether to jump on it now or wait.
Also, is there an appreciable difference in iMac performance between 1.5 and 2 gigs of RAM?
    Any feedback appreciated.
    DPL
    G4 466, iBook 1.2   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    David,
Definitely pull the trigger now, while you still have your finger on it.
If you have a good deal now, and you feel that the current Intel iMacs will fulfill your needs, then I would suggest you go ahead and get it now. With the exception of some professional apps that are not yet in universal format, these new iMacs are very fast, very efficient and very stable.
With regards to a rev b coming up, well here is what I have to say: Software changes very quickly, but I noticed that people's needs don't do so as fast. With the exception of work stuff (come to think of it, even with that), my personal needs have not really changed in the last 4 years---some photo editing, music, surfing, word processing. In that amount of time imacs have moved from the "lampshade" flat panel models to the current iMac Intels, and to tell you frankly, the iMac flat panel of four years ago will still fulfill my needs now (even on a professional level, actually).
What I'm saying is that another "newer" model may come up eventually (That's inevitable), but the Intel iMacs will not be outmoded with regards to your "needs" any time soon.
In fact, with Intel being a new platform, you can only expect forward movement in terms of new products, software and services in this area.
As to when the rev B will be coming... well, who knows. So if you've got a good deal now, go for the Intel iMac---it's the newest one out there so you can't go wrong.
    Hope this helps.

  • Still waiting for BT Infinity to be installed.

I've received a BT hub and a BT Vision box through the post, but my phone line still hasn't been activated and an engineer hasn't visited to install the broadband. When they do, I assume they will bring the rest of the equipment (modem? I have no idea...)
I realise I'm probably the 1,236,997th person to ask this, but what can I do about it? How do I go about rearranging the installation visit?
    Cheers!

    Ah, thanks.
Sorry, perhaps should have mentioned the important point - an engineer was scheduled to visit on the 13th, but didn't. I received no email/written confirmation of the visit (the date was from the order tracking page). The line is due to be activated by midnight tonight, apparently.
I'd contact the forum mods and ask for help.
A contact form can be obtained by clicking on their names...
     http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
If you detail the fact that no engineer has visited, or even any contact.
On that contact form refer back to your thread so they can get the background.
Due their workload it may take 72hrs that's why I mention to do it now rather than later as you've already waited a week.
They are very good and will contact you.
I am not sure but your comment about the line being activated by midnight 20th Sept makes me wonder....
Were you getting a new phone line and Infinity?.... If so I have heard of problems where Infinity cannot be installed at the same  time/day as the phone line goes in... Others have written that it can, but I know it has caused problems in the past.
I don't really understand the line going live one week after the Infinity installation date!!!! maybe that is where the problem lies.
Anyhow detail as much as you can and send the form off to the forum mods..... If by a miracle an Openreach engineer turns up in the meantime unannounced (and I have heard that happens) and you get a completed installation please remember to let the mods know the problem is solved.
I think Infinity is worth waiting for.
    Good luck
Edit message 3 from Seab20 in THIS THREAD mentions.-
"You need to make sure the don't try to install the line on the same day as the broadband as openreach will cancel the broadband order if the line is not active before the installation day, other than that you will be fine"
Mmmmm further reading of that thread shows the installation of Telephone line and Infinity on the same day happened ok.
Well that's the first successful one I've heard of.
    Hope I haven't confused/worried you.
A similar post/situation as yours where StephanieG a forum Mod in message 3 has asked for a contact form to be sent to her.-

  • Refurbished 15" 1.83  vs waiting for merom

i'm on the fence guys and would appreciate any insight. after i ran a custom quartz composer test with both machines, i decided to go mbp over the mb. the online apple store has mbp's at a great price right now for 1599. i am thinking of pulling the trigger, but have been holding back the past few days because i've heard rumors that there might be merom equipped mbp announced at wwdc in august. 3 months isnt too long to wait, but i know if i wait til then, the price will be 400 bucks higher. so its either a great computer now for a great price at 1599, or a wait a few months, get a slightly better computer for 1999. i am leaning towards getting the refurb now, but if anyone has any insight into possible reasons why the next revisions are worth waiting for, let me know.
    thanks,
    kevin

Personally I am wating for the cookbook + utensils for the macbookpro
Well, OK, its really the utensils I want.
Specifically I want a grill rack that fits nicely over the strip between the F-keys and the screen.
Too narrow, you say. Not for weenies. *****, brah, the size is perfect...imagine grilling a few dogs while waiting for a compile...
Also, and this is definitely a TOP priority...I want a drip coffee maker attachment that keeps the heat down and the Kona brewing...that's right mofos... while I'm working.
Thanx in advance, any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is it worth waiting till January 09

    Hi,
I bought a 24 inch iMac this year and it was my first apple computer. Since then I really want to purchase a Mac Pro and a 30 inch Cinema Display. I'm very tempted to go out and purchase one tomorrow, although I've heard that they should be releasing updates to the Mac Pro and possibiliy the Cinema Displays in January at WWDC.
I wanted to know if you guys think its worth waiting for the upgrade and if you guys think the Mac Pro and 30 inch Display will be updated in early January?
    Thanks

Today, tried and true and tested with 9 months.
Check out the Apple Store Specials link for great buys.
You can see Intel dropping older chips, and is scheduled to start selling their new "Nehalem" Core i7 chips and motherboards this month (bleeding edge). Last year this time was when current "Penryn" chips debuted.
But it really wasn't until April at least before the dust settled; for the OS to catch up to hardware.
And if you wait again, you will be forced into Snow Leopard (whether your 3rd party apps and drivers are ready is another question).
There have been a slew of benchmarks in the last week on Nehalem Core i7 but the real crux is getting software and compilers and an operating system that can really benefit from more cores. This represents the biggest evolution and break with the past Intel has done. And that is the good, AND the bad news.

  • Am I worth to wait for the new macbooks with snow leopard?

As the day Apple released the new macbook pro 17. I was considering about If I need to wait for the all macbooks with the new operating system. Because I just heard that Snow leopard will come with a 64 bit. But now leopard just is with 32 bit. Some of people said new macbooks with snow leopard will be different from the old models(2008 late), even the macbook pro 17 2009. Can someone help me? Thanks a lot.

I think if you need a new laptop you can take the plunge. If you have a look on the apple website on the SL page you will note the following text near the bottom:
+Benchmark based on the SunSpider JavaScript Performance test on a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-based iMac with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and 2GB of RAM.+
That's the sort of specs for a machine that would run the OS well...I think the new 17" MB Pro is well within that ballpark.

  • IMac or wait for new MacBook Pro 2013 or 2014?

I have a mid 2007 iMac model, and my PC laptop recently died- I am debating right now as to whether I should buy the iMac 2013 since it was recently updated or just wait for the MacBook Pro update said to be released sometime this month. I'm in need of a new computer for sure and can last for a bit on my iMac (it's staring to get really slow). I personally would want a MacBook Pro so I could bring it to school/classes but also going to partition it play some PC Games (they're not that graphic hungry, just TERA, MMO's).
I was considering to get the 2013 iMac now and wait until next year for the rumored Sharp IGZO MacBook Pro coming out early 2014 sometime during the summer before next school semester starts. That being said, I don't want to risk the 2014 pro not releasing until AFTER the school semester.
My second option (the safer route) is to wait for the new 2013 MacBook Pro to release this month (hopefully) and that would be the end of it.
I just want to get the most out of my money as well as the reassurance that it would be energy efficient, durable to last for the rest of my college years. Thanks!

So how long is your college course?
The latest MacBook Pros have just been released. No need to wait any longer!

  • I'm waiting for my new iPhone 5s to be delivered. I lost my iPhone 5 but did have it backed up on my MacBook Pro. I was using iOS6 at the time. Will I have a problem restoring the data to my new iPhone 5s assuming it will come with iOS7?

No, you should not.  There are problems trying to go the other way, but updating a newer iOS release from a backup of an older iOS release has always been supported and is the basic means of setting up a new device from a previous one.

  • Buy MACBOOK now or wait for newer ?

I'm a student in college right now in need of a laptop and stuff. I'm not really looking for power as much as I'm looking for efficiency. My dilemma arises when I can buy a macbook with like -$100 or -$200 if your in college and stuff + a $300 iPod touch before september 15th or should i wait for the newer version of macbooks, which I heard will be released in mid-late september.
What is your opinion on this one? I can still live by and wait without a laptop as school just barely started so i barely need to talk notes and stuff...

Any resource you got saying they might be releasing new ones is pure conjecture.
    Don't trust such resources.
Read what I have to say about new Macs:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=7116662
I think that you should not get a new MacBook now, because the fact that you "don't" need it now. Apple has not released any information about anything new, and they just released the new iMacs, MacBook Pros, MacBooks and MacBook Airs so I doubt that Apple will release any new computer products in the near future. Although Apple may surprise you, but I suggest waiting until you really need one, and then purchase it.

  • I am thinking of getting my first Macbook pro for uni and was just wondering which one would be the best? The macbook pro or macbook pro with retina display? or even wait for the new release in 2013 ?

If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences.  If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section.  Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.
    Ciao.

  • Should i buy macbook Pro now??? or wait for the new model in 2012..???

i want to buy MacBook Pro....so... should i wait for the new model or???

Your question is analogues to the same situation if you were contemplating the purchase of a new car.
If you need one and the current model satisfies your needs, purchase it.  If the current crop does not satisfy your needs you certainly can wait for a new model, but there is no guarantee that the new model will have features that will fulfill your expectations.
In short, your choices are dealing with the known vs unknown possibilities.
    Ciao.
