Would an iMac G5 be able to support dial-up connection?

I am considering on getting a iMac that was made in 2006, would an iMac work with dial-up connection? You see, I have no internet in my home, and our dial-up connection is USB based. So if I connect the Dial-Up USB Connection to the iMac G5, would it be able to let me access the internet through that, or it isn't possible?

I've tested the Zoom 56K V.92 USB Mini External Data/Fax Modem (Model 3095F) on older Macs with a USB 1.1 port and it performs as well as older, serial port-based 56K modems, like those from US Robotics, Global Village, Zoom, etc.  I've tested it with OS 9.x and 10.3.9, so you should have no problem using it with a G5.  This modem comes with an installation disk that includes the modem scripts for pre-OS X and OS X.  It retails for about $50 and is available at many stores - Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, WalMart, etc.

Our house is a two-story home. Would the airport express be to support that much space?

    Hi Daniel,
Bob Timmons reply to you is absolutely correct.
That being said, I'm going describe my setup, which works very well for me.
I have a two story split level frame house, about 2,000 square feet.  The airport express is located on the second floor -- I get full coverage all over the house, and even into my smallish backyard.  We do have a blu ray player down stairs, located about 20 feet away. We stream Netflix video most evenings, with very good results.
Wifi signal propagation is a vague science, which does make predicting individual results very "ify,"  as Bob mentioned.

  • Hi everyone, I have just purchased a new iMac 27. Is this device able to support a multiple monitor set-up (additional two screens)? If so what do I need and are there any draw backs?

    Hi everyone,
I have just purchased a new iMac 27. Is this device able to support multiple monitor set-up (an additional two screens)? I am not a gamer, so require the set-up for 'office suite' type work and video viewing. if the set-up is possible, what would I need, is it pretty straight forward and are there any draw backs?
    Thank you.

I just purchased the same imac. I connected the other displays using a thunderbolt to dvi adapter and it works fine.

  • Will the new iMac's be able to play encrypted HD content or not?...

    My first post!
I, like most people, am very impressed by the new iMac's, especially the 24" model. I would buy one today if it wasn't for one unanswered question: will the new iMac's be able to play encrypted HD content or not?...
    See the following text:
"Interestingly though, neither Apple nor Nvidia would comment on whether either of the graphics chip options for the 24-inch iMac come with HDCP support enabled, which would make the iMac a viable link in HD video's copy-protected chain. HDCP support is an option for those GPUs, which makes the fact that we couldn't get an answer intriguing."
This worries me. The screen resolution is sufficient for 1080p, but it seems that I may not be able to play encrypted HD content... An upgrade to the GPU at a later date seems difficult (impossible?) too...
    Any comments?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This is new to me. Where have you heard HD Encrypted content will be provided from? You can buy an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid that will allow you to watch HDTV content (i.e. Freeview HD) when it comes out properly. I thought HDCP was aimed at preventing copying of content from a HD-DVD or Blu-ray disk (I may be mistaken) - and at £550 for the cheapest desktop size drives we are still a long way off seeing one of those drives in Apple's consumer line-up.
The iMac 24" is unique in that it does have a removable graphics card. Whether any replacements ever hit the market is yet to be seen.

I have a problem with my Iphone 4s since I did my first update at your Itunes, the bluetooth and the WiFi it is not workinhg anymore.
It is sad that companies like apple are not able to support thier sofware and business.
I went to a apple store at South Park, Charlotte NC,
and found out the worst customer service (in my case)
They don't have answers and don't understand about  "dont let any customer go away sad or mad"
I explain to them that I did everything they said to fix the problem, even to dounload the iOS 6.1.3
that was supposed to fix the problem.
they said fix the problem in other phones but not in mine.
So here I am with no wifi and bluetooth, with apple technicians and experts that don't know what to do with the problem that the sofware they developed cause in my iphone 4s.
and the solution is for me to pay $199.00 US dollars for a problem that I did not cause.
wich means to buy something else from apple to fix a problem that it is not my fault.
    Great! what a convenient solution.
I would like to have an answer from you guys and see if someone there have a better answer for me that shows support, values and integrity as a grest company with solutions for your customers.
Dont think that I want a new phone, I want mine fixed if is possible.
Thank you very much and God Bless you!

Apple isnt here. this is a user based forum for technical questions. The solution is to restart, reset, and restore as new which is in the manual after that get it replaced for hard ware failure. if your within your one year warranty its replaced if it is out of the warranty then it is 199$

  • I have the 24" imac 2.4ghz can it support elements 11

i have the 24" imac 2.4ghz can it support elements 11??? i need to know soon

Yes, assuming your system meets the requirements for PSE 11.  At a minimum you need to be running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and have at least 1GB RAM.  2GB would be a lot better.

  • Imac not booting, Able to get to disk ulility with snow leopard disk.  Tap on had disk, not given choice to do anything.  Information list that smart is certified and partition map is us formatted.  How do I get mac to start up again?

Imac not starting up, keep getting white screen.  Using snow leopard.  Able to get to disk utilities with snow leopard installation disk.  Tap on had disk, not given choice to certified disk or anything else.  Information on disk states that smart status is certified.  Partition map I formatted.  Also tried to restore from back up, but get error:  not enough disk space.  Tried to erase disk, but unable.  What do I do next to get mac to start up?

Thank you. That's what I thought will need to happen.
One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know?  It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.
Just trying to put a band-aid on it for another couple weeks.

Secondly, if i delete a song from itunes,is that song removed from the mac and is the space freed up?If not then what should I do to free up space when i delete songs from itunes?

Your MBP will support a 3T HDD provided it is formatted correctly and has sufficient power.  Most large HDDs require an outboard power source.
When you delete songs from iTunes you will get a message if you want to send it to trash.  If you send it to trash, space will be freed up only when you empty trash.  An individual song does not consume much space so if your HDD is becoming full, more drastic action s should be considered, such as moving an entire file to an external HDD.
    Ciao.

  • Hi there, I'm thinking of buying both a new MacBook Pro and a small 22 inch LED tv for my kitchen... what would I need to be able to use (wireless of course) the tv as a monitor for the new computer? Apple tv? Airport Express? something else? Thanks.

    Hi a,
    http://www.mctiviausa.com/
There has been "talk" on and off of Apple TV doing it (and people have done it with a hack), but I haven't really followed it.
It would be a whole lot cheaper getting an adapter (as needed) and cable and simply pluggin it in when you're in the kitchen.

  • Is there a way to integrate iCal with both reminder and note?  It would be useful to be able to "date" tag both these apps with iCal, so you can augment or even replace an integrated planner

Is there a way to integrate Reminder and Note into iCal?  It would be useful to be able to "Date" tag notes and reminders into the iCal display--this would go a long way to augmenting and replacing a paper planner.

    No way in iCal!
The calendar app of my old MassagePad called Apple Newton was able to calculate the duration of an event. That was in the year 1998.
We're now living in the year 2014 - 16 years later - more then 10 years after OS 10.0, but we still have no calendar app that can do that simple thing.
Thanks Apple for a another embarrassing failure!

  •  Why would certain users not be able to open a mail to url from a Flash swf on my website?

Why would certain users not be able to open a mail to url from a Flash swf on my website?

    1. Because they're using Android or iOS and can't see the Flash container.
    2. Because they have Flash Player, but NOT Shockwave, which works for Interactive content like games and links in Flash containers.
    3. ActiveX controls are blocking Flash content in IE.
    4. Any of about a dozen other things.
As a web desginer since 2003, I can tell you that these days, it's a terrible idea to have Flash content in a website (outside of games that require it). Video should be HTML5. Navigation, content and other links should be HTML, CSS and/or Javascript ONLY, because placing them in a Flash container makes them invisible to literally half of your viewers or more, since SmartPhones can't and don't see Flash, and tablets don't either without special browsers, which may or may not work with embedded links.

  • It would be ace to be able to export the metadata xml.

Hello... not a question as such but more of a feature request.
I've just spent 3 hours compiling a whole edition's worth of metadata in Folio Producer (which works way better than the sidecar XML generator).
And now I need to create an iPhone edition using exactly the same information.
It would be great to be able to export the XML file, and then import the XML file into the iPhone edition.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

Export/import of metadata is a common request. It's on the DPS team's roadmap. You can file feature requests here: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish

  • IMac G5 not able to burn dual-layer DVDs

My iMac should be able to burn dual-layer DVDs, but it always seems to fail part way. It manages to burn DVDs and CDs fine.
I've read about using compressed air inside the drive to clean it, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.
    It's a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 drive.
