Would anyone know why my macbook says "USB device is drawing to much power" when I have my iPhone 4 plugged in?

When I have my phone plugged into either one of my USB ports, my computer sometimes will say "USB device is drawing to much power, to prevent damage the ports been disabled until the device is unplugged" or something along those lines...i was just wondering if anyone knew why...it does it to both ports.
Thanks

The first time it happened my cooling mat was plugged in, but its still been doing it even though it isnt anymore.
