Would I need to remove my old memory?

My iBook currently runs with 256MB RAM which has become significantly slower since an upgrade to Tiger!
I have purchased an extra 512MB which I was hoping to install to increase the memory to 768MB. Will I have to remove the existing memory or can I just add the extra?
Following the Apple pdf manual it needs to be removed first?!
Kind Regards, And.
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   14.1", 1.33 GHz, 256 MB, 60 GB, Combo Drive

The 256 MB of ram that your mac alreadyhad is built into the mainboard/motherboard. So you can't remove it even if you wanted to. So all you have to do is remove the keyboard, airport, heat shield and pop in the new memory. it is super easy.

I have iWork 09 with a family license. I am unable to install the software on my new Macbook Pro (the message is simply "Installation failed"). I wonder if I need to remove an old computer from the family license, and if so, how?

Yes, gladly. I am trying to install on a 13" MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.3. I insert the disk into the SuperDrive. The I work '09 window pops up with two icons: one Tim install and one that says "Read before you install iWork." I double-click on the "Install iWork '09" icon, and a window appears that says, "This package will run a program to determine if the software can be installed." I click "continue" and see "Welcome to the iWork '09 installer." I click on "Continue." The "read me" bullet on the left lights up, and I see "Read before you install. . . ." I click "Continue," then see the software license agreement. When I click on "Continue" again, I am asked to agree, and I do. The window then says, "Standard Install on 'Mackintosh HD" and indicates how much space the program will take.
I click "Install," enter my password, and the installation begins. It goes through a validating phase and begins "writing files." It indicates that installation will take about 30 minutes (although that number fluctuates). After about four minutes it goes to "cleaning up." Then after just a few seconds, the "Summary" bullet on the left lights up and this message appears: "There were errors with the installation. You may want to try installing again." There is a large yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, and a bold "The installation failed." Below that appears "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
At that point, a "Close" button is pulsating blue at the bottom of the window.
Sorry for the tedious detail. Anything revealing there?
    Thanks!

Connect your new phone to your computer using the USB cable and it should appear in iTunes. If it doesn't you will need to troubleshoot. Then see: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109

  • HT1920 I need help removing my old email address

I have a new email address and need to remove the old one can you help me with that?

Assuming that this is for your iTunes account, then on your iPad you can tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and log into the account and you should be able to update your account's primary email address - or you can do it via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or via http://appleid.apple.com

Perhaps you've changed the primary email address of your Apple ID, but did not first sign out of iCloud before doing so?

  • Need to remove an old podcast that is no longer valid

    Hello!
I currently have two very similar podcast feeds showing in iTunes - one needs to be deleted because not set up correctly. I have submitted my request several times but no luck - have tried to block the RSS feed from iTunes - but must be doing something wrong.
I did delete the entire feed and podcast channel from the website in powerpress...if the feed is no longer valid will iTunes then remove it?
Please help - it is currently confusing to people when they search by name and two identical looking podcasts show up.
How can I reach anyone with iTunes to help me one on one? Is this even possible?
Any help is much appreciated...I have had no luck for the past 3 weeks
    Thanks!
    Angie

Clicking 'Report a concern' is supposed to get them to remove it but recently they've just been telling people to use the 'itunes:block' tag - which isn't a log of help to people who have lost control of, or can't edit, the feed.
Adding the 'itunes:block' tag should get the Store to stop showing it from the next time it checks the feed; of course if you've now removed the feed that won't work. Once the feed is no longer there it's likely to be removed from the Store but it may take some time.
You could try emailing them a podcasts 'at' apple.com - their level of helpfulness is very variable, but it might work.

  • How do I remove an old - unworking computer from my home sharing  account

I recently had a PC expire.   It was on my list of computers that made up my home sharing account.
I need to remove that old computer from that account so that I can add the new computer.
The old computer does not work anymore so I cannot access the account from that computer to turn off home shaing on that computer.
How do I access a list of computers to turn some on or off?

If you're talking about the "authorization" limit (5 computers), then there's no way to remove a single computer without loggin onto it.  You have to go to Store->View AppleID, then click "Deauthorize All" under the account summary.  You'll then have to reuthorize the computers you still want to use.  Note, this can only be done once a year.
If you're talking about the "Association" limit (10 computers+devices), then you can remove it by clicking "Manage Devices" in the "iTunes in the Cloud" panel of the same page.

  • Do I need to remove the application?

I am working on iPlanet 6.0SP4.Do i need to remove the old application when I redeploy the new one. Because there is also an option called "override" when doing the deployment, what that mean?
If I didn't remove the application, and redeploy with override option, is it possible that two same classes will be stored in the ldap server with different id

    Hi,
See when you deploy any ear application it first copy it in "<iAS-install-dir>/ias/JAR" dir and extract all the war/jar modules in it. And after it picks the modules from here and explode in respective directory under "<iAS-install-dir>/ias/APPS or .../APPS/modules". When you say Override modules, it replaces all the old modules having the same name with the new one and then explode them.
Moreover when you deploy any module it will make entries in LDAP under "Application server/6.0/J2EE-Modules/<war/jar-module-name>" and for each Servlet/JSP/EJB under "Application server/ClassDef/<GUID>".
So when you redeploy same application again and you don't change the module names then it will overwrite this registry information as the module names and GUID is same (in this case you have to restart iAS). But if you reassemble application using deploytool, then it will create new GUIDs for each components in your app and the second entry will be change in this case.
Now when ever plugin will send the request for the new app it will read GUID from the "J2EE-Modules/<war/jar-module-name>" node and will send it to the KXS and the KXS will see what class to load after looking at "ClassDef/<GUID>" node.
If the modules have the same name as original Application, then the old GUID entries in registry are of no use and will make iAS slow only as it reads the whole registry while starting.
Please feel free to ask further questions.

  • Where can I buy a larger hard drive for my late 2008, 15" macbook pro?  From reviewing questions and answers on the support community it would appear that having Apple remove the old and install the new hard drive is recommended.  But how/where?

Where can I buy a larger hard drive for my late 2008, 15" macbook pro?  From reviewing questions and answers on the support community it would appear that having Apple remove the old and install the new hard drive is recommended.  But how/where?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

  • Removed authorization on old computer, but iTunes still tells me I have 5 authorizations in iTunes on other computers, and I need to remove one before I can auth. my new mac! arrrgh!!

I'm trying to authorize my new mac in iTunes, but it keeps telling me i need to remove one authorization from another computer.
I removed the authorization from my old laptop - but it STILL tells me i need to remove one authorization before my new mac can be authorized!! I even removed iTunes on the old computer, but it still doesn't work! What do I do?? I want the music from my iMac to be on my MacBook as well!

Once a year, you can also perform a step called "deauthorize all computers associated with your Apple ID".  It will clear all 5 authorizations so you can reauthorize the one you want.
    Follow the procedure here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

  • Do I still need to use the old mobile me backup system for backing up a mac desktop and if I delete it will it affect the memory of my system which has now Maverics

Do I still need to use the old mobile me backup system for backing up all my data and having it able to get at in case of a crash, or can the icloud reset everything? Because I can not find any structured refrence, as to how it would be done. I am updated to Maverics. Also does the icloud continue if I uninstall the backup to free up space?

MobileMe was discontinued in 2012 and all the data stored on it was deleted, and iCloud can't make backups of Macs.
What I recommend you to make backups is to get an external drive and use Time Machine or an application like Carbon Copy Cloner. With this, you can access to your data everywhere and safely, and then, if you want, use a cloud storage service like CrashPlan. You can keep on using iCloud without backups
