Would i notice a difference

i know this probably sound like a stupid question but i am really a newbie to mac.
Do you think i would notice a massive speed increase by upgrading from my 500mhz imac g3 summer 2001 to a powermac g4 1.42 DP.
Also would leopard run well on the powermac g4.
Thanks, Tom

The only thing stupid is not asking the question! Knowledge is key.

Yes you would....almost triple the speed depending on what it's bus speed is.

Yes, if I remember right, Leopard needs 867MHz and up to run. It would run best with extra (added) RAM (memory), but you probably don't know how much it has yet.
Keep in mind that PowerMac's will never be able to run the latest SnowLeopard though. Snow is for Intel only Macs. So, Leopard will be our PowerMac's last OS upgrade.
If you need a Mac that will keep up with the latest software you may need to consider buying a new machine.

  • Would I notice a difference between a dual 3.2 MAC PRO and a dual 3.0 Mac P

Would I notice a difference between a dual 3.2 MAC PRO and a dual 3.0 Mac Pro. Looking to add another MAC PRO to my studio just wondering if there would be a noticeable difference between my dual 3.0 quad core and the 3.2 dual quad core??
    Thanks
    John

Using mostly FCP and Illustrator CS 3. Really do not need anymore performance for what I am doing but I need to add another station and wonder if the 3.2 would be a better performer. My current system is a 3.0 dual with quad cores. If the 3.2 would be a better performer then I would install the new system in my main suite.
    Thanks

  • 1.7 ghz vs 2.0 ghz will I notice the difference?

I am looking into getting a Macbook Air and I was wondering if I would be able to tell the difference between 1.7 ghz and 2.0 ghz. I plan on using the laptop for pretty general stuff like homework and the occasional video editing the final cut pro. Both models I am looking at are i7's with 8gbs of ram. Any information will help.
    Thanks,

8gig regardless of RAM, on general things you will not notice a difference, no.
Youd see about 15% on heavy photo and vid editing applications

  • Will I notice a difference from 1.5gb to 2gb RAM?

    Hi
I've got a 1.67 Powerbook with 1.5GB of RAM, the RAM for this model Crucial is selling looks very cheap so I' thinking about jumping to 2GB but will I really notice a difference. is it worth me doing this?
    Thanks guys

One way to check is to open your activity monitor (on your hard drive in applications/utilities). Check the system memory tab, and specifically page ins and page outs. These values reset when you reboot, so what you're interested in is the ratio of the two. If page outs is 10% or greater of page ins, you can use more memory for the applications you run. A page out is when memory is written to the hard drive to make room for something else in memory, which is a comparatively slow process. In a perfect system, page outs would equal zero. To give you an idea .... I have a 2GB system. For the applications I run, my page ins are 48493 and page outs are 1350. Page outs are a little less than 3% of page ins, so, ignoring for the moment that I can't add any more memory, more memory wouldn't be useful.

  • Different i5 processors in MBA and MBPR - Will I notice the difference?

Trying to decide between 13"MBA and 13" MBPR (both will come with 8G and 128 storage).  I notice the i5 in MBA is rated1.4GZ, boost to 2.7Ghz and the i5 in MBPR is 2.6GHZ boost to 3.1 GHZ.  Will I notice a difference?  I am struggling with the purchase decision.  This is my first Mac purchase.  Machine will be used for family including 2 middle schoolers, so used for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, internet, hobby level iMovie and iPhoto.  Machine will largely stay home.
The only other differences I see is the HDMI port on MBPR (can't decide if I would use, but seems like it would be handy if making movies and storing photos) and the display, but not sure I will really see a difference.
Any thoughts?  As configured the price difference is about $160.

The MBP is faster than the MBA, you will notice.
128GB is very little, I would reconsider that.

  • CS6 - Will I notice a difference in speed/performance with only 512MB video RAM?

With regard to PS CS6: I'm specifically interested in CS6's ability to utilize video memory to make PS faster, more powerful; but will I notice a difference in speed/performance with only 512MB video RAM?
Currently running PS CS5 on an iMac (Duo-Core, 8GB RAM, 512MB Video RAM).
Was hoping Apple was going to release new Mac Pro (been saving dough for a few years now). Since that didn't happen, sticking with current Mac setup for at least another year, and this includes a video card that only has 512MB memory.
Is it worth it for me to upgrade to CS6 with regard to speed/performace?
    Any input would be appreciated.

You need at least 1Gb video memory to make use of the new GPU accelerated features in CS6

  • Will I notice a difference?

If I choose the 2.8 GHz processor instead of the 2.53, will I notice the difference when using the MacPro 15" laptop?
Will I notice an increase in heat from the higher processor?
2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo to an even faster 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I went with the 2.53GHz because in my estimation that is the machine at the perfect price point. Lots of processing power/memory/hard drive for the best price. You're going to end up paying a premium for the 2.8 upgrade and only receive a small increase in performance. Plus by upgrading to the 2.8 your warranty is going to change from the stock machine to a CTO. Meaning if something is defective, it will be repaired instead of replaced. For instance if I found something was wrong with MBP when I first bought it, I could have walked into the apple store and get it replaced. If I opted for the 2.8, it would have had to be sent in for repair. They could have replaced it then, but it would take time to configure a new one, either way its too much for too little

  • Anyone notice a difference with "Auto Brightness" function?

Ive had this phone for about a month now...got it since the 19th...i was one of the first ones to get it.  I must say it works great.  I ran into a few problems here and there but nothing major.  You know how technology is...good when it wants to, bad when it gets a chance.  My phone stopped ringing, as some of the folks, im hoping that once froyo is released it will take care of it...otherwise, reseting the phone (**bleep** Smart Profile)...but my question for you folks is:  does any one really notice a difference in screen brightness?  I mean, i understood it as a way to automatically reduce eye strain when u look at your phone in darkness...you know: you get a text at night, and you've been sleeping or had your eyes closed, and u look at the phone it can feel like the light is stabbing at your retina...it happens to me...ANYWAYS, i just dont see the difference from the brightness at my office, and the brightness in my bedroom when its dark (they appear to be at the same brightness level).  I've looked at the manual and there is really no mention of a 'light sensor" on the phone....just wondering if im missing something here....anyone?

II do indeed definitely see a difference. However, I presume that the main benefit is to your battery life, not your eyes. For eyes, in most conditions the brighter the screen the better (everything looks better, is easier to read, colors are better, etc.) However, for your battery, sending the power that lights up the screen is one of if not the biggest drains on the battery. So the smart setting does indeed seem to work as a nice middle ground between a performance setting (high brightness) and battery saving setting (low brightness). If I read your post wrong, please let me know. On a related matter, in the settings you can set how long it takes for your screen to shut off when the phone is in active (such as 1, 2, 10, 15, or 30 minutes, or something like that). The  lower the number here, the longer the battery charge will last, I think it seems clear.
    Happy Droid Xing!

  • Will I notice a difference in speed?

    Between 320GB Serial ATA @ 5400 vs 250GB Serial ATA @ 7200?
Will be using laptop mainly for Internet browsing and playing DVDs?

DVDs don't use the hard drive, they use the DVD drive, so no issue there. Internet browsing would probably feel fine on a 4200RPM drive. Don't worry, a MacBook Pro is designed for far more intense performance demands. The drive speed would only make a difference if you were chugging through hours of digital video footage or piles of 10-megapixel Photoshop files.

  • Will I notice a difference on N over G?

I'm thinking about upgrading my router to a model that supports 802.11n. Will I notice a difference? I know N is faster, but will it make a difference if my Internet speed from my cable modem is 10Mbps? That's still under G right?

That is correct, but if this is a network and you are planning on using TC as a wireless backup option for Time Capsule or file transfers, N is better.

  • If I bought an iMac from America would there be any differences/problems?

I live in Australia. If I bought an iMac from America would there be any differences/problems with me using it in Australia & connecting it to other Apple products (that were purchased in Australia)?

For that matter, you will receive cables which are incompatible with Australian electrical mains outlets.
Therefore, you will need a plug adapter.
You should also check with Customs for duties and import regulations and restrictions.
In my country, for example, all electrical devices imported from outside the EU are subject to duties and VAT and, if they are radios, TVs or any comparable device (and an internet-enabled PC is considered comparable), they must also be approved by the Department of Communications for compliance to radio frequency standards. In some rare cases, approval may be denied, most of the time it costs a very high fee.

1, iOS only works on iPhone, iPads or iPods. These drives were probably made with an operating system that preceeded OS X such as OS 7, OS 8 or OS9.
2, No, the data on the Zip Drives is formatted for the Mac.
3, If your reformat them then all of the data is wiped
4, The problem would be that the PC can not read the files as formatted on the zip drive by the Mac
5, There are services that might be able to migrate the data for you but I seriously doubt that Staples or Office Max can do it for you. The services that migrate data charge big bucks so be prepared to pay for it.

  • Is their any other Processor better then a 2.9ghz intel core i7 that i could look into. I'm looking to make the computer faster & already upgraded the memory from 8GB to 16GB not realy noticing a difference

Is their any other Processor better then a 2.9GHZ Intel Core i7 that i could look into. I'm looking to make the computer faster & already upgraded the Ram from 8GB to 16GB and i'm really not noticing any difference actually it seems to be the same as it was before. Any help with this?

You will only notice a performance improvement if you haven't got enough RAM to use the applications you need. If you had a lot of free RAM before, you won't notice any difference now.
If you already have your computer, you can only replace the processor if you replace the logic board. Your computer requires a specific logic board, so you shouldn't replace it and you have to stay with the same processor. Apart from RAM, the only part you can upgrade is the hard drive. What will make an improvement is a SSD drive, if you haven't got one

  • I would like to upgrade my Imac 8,1 from 1 Gb to 4Gb RAM. Apple does not have memory for this Imac but recommended Crucial, Kingston or Ramjet. I have noticed a difference in pricing and would like to know if there are differences in their chips?

Are there any difference in these vendors chips as the price range is from $51-$99?

I'm coming late to this string because I now have the same issue as gillnfly and you have all solved virtually all of my questions - thanks!  My only other question to add to what you've already said is - I currently have 1 G of memory installed.  Can I ADD a 2G card to get to 3G (probably more than I need), or should cards match if you have more than 1 - i.e., 2 1G cards or replace existing 1G with a 2G, or even 2 2G cards (way more than I need).
Thanks for your spot-on comments!  I already found the OWC website and you've confirmed that's the best place to go.
