Would it be wise to download v3.6.3 and downgrade? (plugin-container.exe issue)

Due to Firefox loading plugin-container.exe and taking up to 40% more resources (in version 3.6.4), would it be wise to download v. 3.6.3 here: http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.3/win32/en-US/ and downgrade? if so, would i need to completely uninstall 3.6.4 first? thx

Because 3.6.4 had some security fixes, and you won't want to skip further fixes, there is a better option.
You'll want to disable all Crash Protection as follows:
*In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press Enter .
*The about:config ''"This might void your warranty!"'' warning page may appear.
*Click I'll be careful, I promise! , to continue to the about:config page.
*Type '''dom.ipc.plugins''' into the Filter textbox.
*Double click or right click and choose Toggle on all true/false options (other than dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs) so that they are set to '''false'''.
*You might need to restart for changes to take effect.
plugin-container.exe shouldn't be used anymore with this change.
''If you do have this problem, it would be appreciated if you could post your Flash version (if the problem is triggered by Flash), AV software, and what sites(s) trigger the high CPU usage.''

Sometimes a plugin-container.exe instance starts hogging a ton of memory -- I would like to know which plugin is running inside that plugin-container without having to one-by-one disable the plugins. Which process called plugin-container.exe?

As described above, I have several instances of plugin-container.exe running, which is OK. It would make me feel safer to know which plugins are running inside each of these, since I would be better able to know whether there is malware running inside one of them, or which website might have made the process start hogging memory.
I am a power user, I usually have 80-100 tabs open, and of course it is hard to track the website or plugin down without having to waste a lot of time.
Could you provide in future releases this information?
Is it already available under one of the about: pages (e.g. config, plugins, memory, etc?)

Maybe I was not clear. I usually have 4-5 plugin-container.exe processes running. I know now that the large one that hogs is the Adobe Flash player, but, for example I don't know which plug-in initiated the other plugin-container.exe instances. 
One of them actually says "googletalkplugin.exe" if you dig deep, which is OK. At least I know why the plugin-container.exe was started. But there are other instances that are just there and there is no way to figure out which plug-in initiated it. 
This would of course also help figure out if it is really the Adobe Flash plug in that is hogging all the memory, OR even if within Firefox in the about: pages one could figure out which TABS are using which plug-ins.
Like that you could freely choose to terminate the process directly, or close the TAB. 
1) What I am looking for is a way to determine which plug-in is running under which instance of plugin-container.exe 
2) Additionally it would be great to have a summary of which TABS are using which plugins (e.g. in the about:plugins page or yet another about: page)

What are the ff preferences associated with plugin-container.exe in the newest version of ff? Specifically I would like to edit them in about:config to disable plugin-container.exe

I've done this with a previous version of ff by editing the values of these preferences: dom.ipc.plugins.enabled true

after I installed ff on my laptop today I cannot find the .dll preferences. And plugin-container.exe continues to plague me. For me this is the one issue with ff since updating from 7. It boggles me as to why you haven't gotten rid of this thing.

To disable crash protection, go to about:config and set to false all preferences starting with dom.ipc.plugins.enabled. '''(It is possible that your browser has only that preference entry without any addition.) '''This will prevent the "plugin-container" process from running and all plugins will run within the Firefox browser process. Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

Yes, it will use cellular data. If you know that you are going to out of wifi range, you can predownload some music whilst you have a wifi connection.

First, the answer to your question is yes, it IS possible to install Windows in Parallels without a disc, using an .iso image file.

The primary difference between a Boot Camp installation and a Parallels installation is that in the Boot Camp installation, you're installing Windows into a separate partition on your internal mass storage device (hard drive or SSD) and then rebooting your Mac directly into Windows.
In Parallels, you're always running OS X on the Mac and Parallels is running a Windows virtual machine.
Not to get too technical here, but it is also possible for Parallels to run an installed Windows Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine. If you're evaluating system performance with a trial copy, that might be the way to go, because you only have to install Windows once on Boot Camp as a dual-boot system, then install Parallels Desktop and run the Boot Camp partition as the virtual machine.
There is a performance difference between the two, with the Boot Camp Windows installation being faster, but without the convenience of running both Mac and Windows applications simultaneously offered by Parallels. Sometimes that convenience outweighs a performance hit.
I can't give you more Mavericks and Parallels 9 specifics, because I'm currently running Windows 7 with Parallels 7 on OS X 10.8.5. Parallels 7 will not run on OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
I've been using Parallels (to run a few old rarely-used WIndows applications with features that would require a steep learning curve and major expense to purchase and learn a similar Mac app) occasionally since Parallels 3 and Windows XP. With each new release of OS X, each new release of Parallels, and each new Windows release, there are ALWAYS 'early adopter' bugs that get worked out over time.
