Would it make a difference in performance with 8GB

I would like to know if I opt to upgrade the memory from 4GB to 8GB in 13-inch: 2.4GHz Mac Book Pro,
make a noticeable difference in it's performance?
Regards

Depends. Are you now running low on RAM? What do you see reported in Activity Monitor?

Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.

1, iOS only works on iPhone, iPads or iPods. These drives were probably made with an operating system that preceeded OS X such as OS 7, OS 8 or OS9.
2, No, the data on the Zip Drives is formatted for the Mac.
3, If your reformat them then all of the data is wiped
4, The problem would be that the PC can not read the files as formatted on the zip drive by the Mac
5, There are services that might be able to migrate the data for you but I seriously doubt that Staples or Office Max can do it for you. The services that migrate data charge big bucks so be prepared to pay for it.

  • Would these 2 different Sorting methods makes a difference in performance?

    Hi I'm using vs2012.
My page is loading up slow.  I was wondering if there is a performance difference to these 2 Sort methods?  The sorted collection is then bind to a gridview control in my web page.
    List<UserPrincipal> users = new List<UserPrincipal>();
    users.OrderBy(x => x.SamAccountName).ToList();
    and
    users.Sort(delegate(UserPrincipal a, UserPrincipal b) { return string.Compare(a.SamAccountName, b.SamAccountName); });
    Thank you.
    Thank you

First, thanks everyone for your help and input.
I checked the vm that I use as a web server.  In the Windows task manager, the cpu shows 1% usage and 8GB of ram only 1.6 GB are used.
I step through program many times but never notice any sticky spot so I did it again this time looking out for possible performance issue.  It turns out that the Sorting loc steps right through with no delay.  Setting a few break points to measure
where the performance problem could be at my local development PC finds NADA!  First break points set at the Page_Load event and then more break points at some other major code block and they all just step right through with no problem.
It does take almost 5 seconds for VS to hit the first BP, at Page_Load event.  Is this normal?  Any other tool that I can use to find out what's causing the slow page load from the web server?
    Thank you.
    Thank you

  • Significant difference in performance with separate HTTP and DB servers

    Hello,
I have an application in TEST with a local install of HTTP (APACHE from the companion CD) and the performance is acceptable (1-2 seconds per page)
I have separated the HTTP instance onto the LIVE platform (Windoze 2003).
On both platforms, the DB is on Linux (TEST has 4 cpu, 8Gb RAM, LIVE has 8cpu, 14 Gb RAM).
The queries from the report regions run like a dream directly on the DB's (sub 1 second) however the LIVE page on the application runs between 40 and 60 seconds (in DEBUG mode).
The TEST page returns in sub 2 seconds.
I've got the same conf files for both platforms (mostly default settings)
    What do, clever folk?
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
    run your page and add
&p_trace=YESto your URL. That will create a trace file which you can analyze with TKPROF. That should help you to analyze which SQL APEX really executes for your report. Maybe it adds some addition things that you are not doing when use execute it manually.

  • Will Memory upgrade make difference in performance of Toshiba NB notebook?

WILL IT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO PERFORMANCE IF I UPGRADE NY NOTEBOOK FROM 1GB TO 2 GB?

If you have XP and an efficient Virus Scanner (I recommend Avira), 1GB should be fine for light usage (internet, email etc..). 2GB will help if you have many apps open at once.
If you have Win7, 2GB is highly recommended. I doubt one 4GB Module will work on an Atom CPU, check compatibility first. Remember there is only one RAM Slot in the NB series.

  • I am downloading a digital album and i have to choose between apple lossless, flac, and high quality mp3.  i am using itunes and i have a pc running windows 7  does that make a difference?

I am downloading an album and I don't know which format to choose.  Flac, apple lossless, or high quality mp3.  I want to play it in itunes, on my iphone and i have a pc running windows 7.  Does that make a difference?

Go with Apple Lossless.  It will play readily in iTunes vs. FLAC.  You can convert it later to mp3 if you wish but you cannot convert mp3 to ALE or FLAC and get back the quality that was lost.  You can also convert ALE to FLAC if you need to.

  • CS6 - Will I notice a difference in speed/performance with only 512MB video RAM?

With regard to PS CS6: I'm specifically interested in CS6's ability to utilize video memory to make PS faster, more powerful; but will I notice a difference in speed/performance with only 512MB video RAM?
Currently running PS CS5 on an iMac (Duo-Core, 8GB RAM, 512MB Video RAM).
Was hoping Apple was going to release new Mac Pro (been saving dough for a few years now). Since that didn't happen, sticking with current Mac setup for at least another year, and this includes a video card that only has 512MB memory.
Is it worth it for me to upgrade to CS6 with regard to speed/performace?
    Any input would be appreciated.

You need at least 1Gb video memory to make use of the new GPU accelerated features in CS6

  • Does the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB really make a difference

I just bought 27inch late 2012 imac. 3.4ghz i7 32gb ram NVIDIA 680MX 2gb and Im currious does the 780M 4gb really make a difference. I do not play any games. I do have 2 27 lightening bolt displays. I do alot of video editing and photograph. I have all Adobe Products and Apple software but i cannot find any where that the GTX 780m with 4gb will be any better. All I can find is if you play games then 4gb is good.
    Any advice would be great!
    Thank you in advance,

Certain applications such as Photoshop or Final Cut Pro will benefit from the higher video ram, however the GTX 680M is a very powerful card and the 2GB of ram that it comes with should be more than sufficient for most tasks.
Only extremely large files/projects will truly benefit from having the 4GB or ram that the GTX 780M supplies.
The 2013 iMac offers a performance boost over the 2012 version, however the increases in terms of CPU/GPU power are mostly modest.
The Haswell architecture was designed with mobile use as the primary focus and so areas such as energy usage were the priority.
The Nvidia 7XX graphics cards run on the same Kepler architecture as the 6XX cards, as with the Intel CPU the improvements are there but there is not a huge leap forward.

  • Would like to understand WHY changing the IP address seems to make a difference.

I have had significant difficulty getting my WRT54G v5 to pass to the internet multiple pcs connected by cable and/or wireless.  Default settings seemed to work fine to log into the LAN, but only 1 connection would go to the internet.  I called Linksys tech support and they successfully got me over at least the initial hurdle so that my 2 main pcs can now function, and a 3rd seems to also get through.  I've seen in this forum a BUNCH of similar posts, including some which say that success only lasts for brief periods of time.
What changed to get mine to work???.......192.168.1.1 was changed to 192.168.2.1.  What I'd like to understand is.......why does that make a difference?
I am not a networking technical guru by any means, but am I a novice to technical discussion.  Simply changing the address to go from not working to working does not make sense to me, and I'd like it to make sense so I can support this thing without spending hours every weekend.
    Linksys, can you please explain?

The address pool of the DHCP server are just the IP addresses which the DHCP server uses to assign them to devices which ask for an IP address via DHCP (e.g. computers which are set to obtain their IP address automatically). The DHCP server automatically supplies those devices with an IP address and assigns the correct subnet mask, gateway address, and dns servers.
This has nothing to do which IP address actually have internet access or not. After the device got its IP configuration from the DHCP server this configuration works just like any other configuration you may statically configure on some other devices.
The router connects all IP addresses inside your LAN to the internet as long as the devices use the router IP address as default gateway.
If you router has an LAN IP address 192.168.1.1 and a subnet mask 255.255.255.0 these two numbers together define that all addresses 192.168.1.* are part of the LAN. 192.168.1.0 is a special purpose address. 192.168.1.255 is the broadcast address of this LAN. Everything from 192.168.1.1-254 are normal IP addresses inside your LAN (with .1 obviously allocated by your router). Operating as gateway between the LAN and the internet the router accepts traffic from any of the LAN addresses and forwards it into the internet and receives the responses and sends them back into your LAN.
For the routing/gateway part of the router it is irrelevant where the device got its IP address from. This part does not know about the DHCP server. All that matters here is that the IP address is valid and inside the LAN subnet. If the device has a static IP address or DHCP assigned IP address does not matter.
It does not matter which IP address range the DHCP server assigns. Linksys uses 100-149 as default. Some other routers assign 2-100. Some others assign 2-254. Assign whatever you like. Orderly people split their subnet into various parts, e.g. assigning 10-19 to NAS devices with static IP, 20-29 for printers with static IP, 30-39 for VOIP phones with static IP, 50-99 for DHCP, 240-249 for other networking gear. Or in any other way.
The only important thing is not to assign a static IP address inside the DHCP server address pool. The DHCP server checks whether an IP address is used before it assigns it. If, however, the device with the static IP address inside the DHCP address pool is temporarily down, the DHCP server does not know that the IP address is used otherwise and thus may assign this address to another device. Now, once the device with the static IP address comes up again you have an IP address conflict. Therefore, never assign a static IP address inside the DHCP server address pool.

Are you in an area where there is no coverage?
You can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
If that doesn't help, then yOu'll need to contact Sprint again.

Sometimes syncing will have problems with very large video files like this.  I'm not sure you will be able to overcome this, but if the videos are important enough you may consider purchasing 3rd party software such as Touch Copy to transfer them.

  • Is it better to load several apps at the same time, or one at a time? Does it make a difference?

I have replaced the "Login Items" functionality with an Automator app that runs when I log in. It asks if I want to load all my startup items now, or just cancel it. I have several startup items, including some utility apps, but also bigger apps like Safari and iTunes.
I currently do this by "Get Specified Finder Items" providing a list of the apps, and then "Open Finder Items," opening all of them at once so they are all loading up simultaneously. I then wait for a while until my CPU has calmed down and everything is ready to go (which is the reason for moving them to an Automator workflow in the first place; I can cancel loading if I don't want to wait).
Would it be better to open one, wait for it to load, open the next, etc.? Would this have any effect on performance as far as either the time it takes to load up or the efficiency of the computer as it operates with all of these things loaded?
Just curious. It would be difficult to actually test, since i imagine the difference would be small if any.

I don't think it makes any difference.
