Would like file sizes in windows to recalculate always

Friends:
I'm using OS X 10.4.10 and would like the size of each file to update on any window I open. As it stands only some folders have sizes. Ive got my View options set to calculate sizes for all windows, but when I return a few days later this option seems to turn off. How do I lock it on permanently? Can I go in the terminal and do some permanent hack?
Thanks knowledgeable ones!
Migs

i'm having the exact same problem!
does anyone know how to fix it?
the calculate all sizes seems to be disabled each time finder is relaunched.

I would like to use the windows explorer open dialog box instead of the adobe open dialog box. How can I change that?

The top screenshot is the Windows Open dialog box. All File > Open... commands in all Windows programs bring it up.   Try File > Open in Notepad for example.
It belongs to Windows not Adobe. You cannot change this because there is no such thing as an Adobe Open dialog box.
The bottom screenshot is Windows Explorer. It is Windows' OS File Browser, not an Open dialog.  It is not called up by Photoshop or any Windows program.
You have to click on "My Computer" or a Folder icon to get to it. You can double-click a psd, jpeg or other image file in the Explorer window so that it opens in Photoshop.
There is Adobe Bridge and Minibridge   Alt + Ctrl + O or File > Browse in Bridge

  • Getting WMA-like file sizes

Is there a straight answer for why Apply won't support WMA? Is it a "proprietary/license" issue where apple doesn't want to pay Microsoft royalties? What is it? I mean, they choose to handle some pretty obscure formats. WMA is a pretty standard format. What's the deal? Any chance of them supporting it in future releases on iTunes?
By the way, based on my testing, converting to 96kbps MP3 or 80kbps AAC hits pretty close to the 128kbps variable bit rate WMA file sizes. I haven't been able to tell a difference in quality, but then again, I have a day job while I'm listening so it's not like I'm really trying to hear a difference here.
If anyone knows a more scientific way to know what a 128kbps VBR WMA translates to in an iTunes compatible format then please reply here.

  • I would like file a complaint on false information received from Verizon

How can you take away services after you tell the customer that they won't be taken away?  I was told i would get my data plan back in 7-10 days.  Day 14 and I now find out i lost my data and was downgraded to 2 gigs at the same price as unlimited.  Way to go Verizon!

tommac304, we want to give you so much more with our new MORE Everything plans! http://vz.to/1lwOwRQ When upgrading to a new device with promotional pricing, you will be moved to a currently offered plan. However, you can buy a new phone at full pricing to keep the retired UNlimited data plan.

  • Checking exact File Size irrespective of OS - Windows / Unix / Linux ?

    Hi All,
When i check the file size in windows and also the same file in linux - it is not same. for example a client may be a windows machine and the server may be a unix machine.
Is there is a any generic method to check the file size which may be same for ALL OS ?
    Thanks,
    Kathir

It is a text file and also as well as binary...
will it be different for different file extensions ?File extensions don't matter. But if you create a file on one OS, and FTP it using ASCII mode, or use some other "smart" means of file transfer that treats it as plain text, the Windows version will be larger than the Unix versions.

  • Windows Quicktime File Size Limitation?

I corrected an error in the subject of my Message
Is there a file size limitation on Quicktime files in Windows?
I made two H.264 HD Quicktime movie files of ~ 1 Gb and ~2.1 GB respectively.
Both movies play fine on my new MacBook Pro.
Only the smaller of the two plays on a Windows Vista laptop.
Is there a 2 GB Limit on QT file sizes in Windows?

    Dear Kirk:
    Thanks for responding.
The 2.1 GB file seems to have copied to the Windows Vista Laptop OK,
but the H.264 movie was not recognized as a movie by Quicktime/Windows.
    Note: movie did have chapters.
I have made a new version without chapters at a lower data rate which is 1.6 GB.
I will try it the next chance I get.

  • File sizes after transfer

I got a new computer and used the instructions for transferring songs to your new PC using your iPod and iTunes 6. It all went pretty well except when I got done there was nothing in my library except my purchased music. The instructions had stated to drag the “my music” folder out to the desktop and copy the iTunes folder into it, which I did.
When the songs did not show up in my library I started over and on the second try they showed up in the library. But now I have a folder on my desktop, “my music”. When I double click this folder it opens the “my music” folder which has 2 folders in it, iTunes and sample music. When I double click the iTunes folder it brings up more folders, iTunes music library (2.79 gb), iTunes library (2.49 gb), my music (5.52 gb), iTunes music (5.58 gb) and album artwork (38.9 mb). So it appears that I have gotten the songs in there twice somehow.
My question is, can I safely delete the “my music” folder that is on the desktop? In iTunes the direction the songs take is as follows: C:\Documents and Settings\Sandy\Desktop\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music. I don’t think desktop is usually part of the path so I probably did something when I did the transfer. Sorry for the long post, and I hope it makes sense, but if I don’t need to take up all that space on the hard drive I would like to delete something but right now everything is working and I hate to “fix it if it aint broke”.

Depends on what your cam's setting were when you recorded and how you ingested.
If you shot 720/24p, it was in a 60 fps stream. If you then removed pulldown on import, that would reduce file size.
If you shot 24pNative, instead, it doesn't record redundant frames. Upon log and transfer, the remove pulldown checkbox would not be checked the file size would be identical.

  • I am trying to make a pdf of a file and I need to get the file size to be no bigger than 10MB. What is the best way to do this

I am trying to make a pdf of a file and I need to get the file size to be no bigger than 10MB. Even when I save it, the image quality at minimum the file size is 10.9 MB. What is the best way to do this

@Barbara – What purpose is that PDF for? Print? Web?
If web purpose, you could convert CMYK images to sRGB. That would reduce the file size as well.
A final resort to bring down file size is:
    1. Print to PostScript
    2. Distill to PDF
That would bring file size down even more. About 20%, depending on the images and other contents you are using, compared with the Acrobat Pro method. If you like you could send me a personal message, so we could exchange mail addresses. I could test for you. Just provide the highres PDF without any downsampling and transparency intact. Best provide a PDF/X-4.
I will place the PDF in InDesign, print to PostScript, distill to PDF.

  • Migrating Windows Server 2003 File Cluster to Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hello,
I have a very large Windows Server 2003 2 node file cluster that I would like to upgrade to Windows 2008 R2. I need to do this inplace (same server hardware) and I would like to use the existing storage if possible (I could buy more if it would make things
    easier).
Is there a step by step guide that can tell me how to do this upgrade inplace or can anyone give me details on how to do this? I've looked at a few articles and they are not very descriptive on what to do.

What Microsoft calls an inplace upgrade is option 2 below
There are two basic migration/upgrade methods for a 2003 cluster to 2008
    1) Build on new hardware, and move the disk/migrate the data.
    2) Break cluster and remove one node, use that node to build a new one node cluster.  Repeat by removing nodes and adding to new cluster.
Here is the MS Step-by-step guide for both of these approaches.

  • Acrobat Mac optimizes to bigger file sizes than on Win?

    Hello,
I thought I am reasonably savvy when it comes to using Acrobat's PDF optimizer. But recently people have begun telling me that Acrobat Mac seemingly generally produces bigger files than the Windows version. That seems quite unbelievable to me but some preliminary tests do seem to indicate that Mac file sizes are quite a bit bigger than those produced on Windows.
Has anyone heard of this yet or had any personal experience?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

  • Would like to use CS6 on Mac OS and W7 w/o buying two CS6's.

Purchased CS6 Student & Teacher addition for Mac OS at school, but would like to use with Windows 7 as well, when I get home.  Is there a way to do this without purchasing two licenses?

Ned is correct the CS6 Student and Teacher edition is platform specific.  I would recommend that you look at Creative Cloud which allows you to install on both platforms.  We do also have a discount available for education users.  You can find more details at http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html?promoid=JQPEQ.

  • Batch Reduced File Size?

I have hundreds of PDFs that have a transparency watermark but the file sizes on each do vary but are just too large. I would love to reduce the file size by running a batch, so I went ahead and created a batch in the Action Wizard that would reduce file size and just resave. The batch worked just fine for the exception of creating "black boxes" of the transparency graphic. Is there a way to reduce the files size and still retain the transparency? Thank you!

I figured it out.     I had to make sure that file type was set to "Acrobat 5 or higher" in order to maintain the transparency. Any thing older than that produces undesirable effects.

  • Avi file size compared to m2v file size

I saved a movie clip in MPEG for computer playback.  The file size was 112MB.  The preset was H.264 1440x1080i 25, no export audio, the codec was MainConcept H.264 Video, TV standard was automatic, frame dimensions were 720 by 480, frame rate was 29.97, field order was automatic, fixed aspect ratio was automatic, level was 4.1, bitrate encoding was VBR, 2 Pass, and Bitrate level was high.  I then saved the file in AVI and the file size was 426MB.  The preset was Microsoft AVI, no export audio, the video codec was Cinepak Codec by Radius, quality was 100, size was 720 by 480, frame rate was 29.97, field type was lowere first and aspect was square pixels.  Why would the file size nearly quadruple and what can I do to get the AVI file size down below 400MB?  Thanks.
    Steve

Well, for one thing, you're going from one format to another -- but, more so, you're going from one codec (compression system) to another.
The H.264 codec is the one used for creating AVCHD video, although not all H.264 video is AVCHD. It can also be used as a delivery format (that's a format that you display online or play on a computer) -- which seems to be the case here. Your source is apparently from an AVCHD camcorder, although at that file size it must only be about 10 seconds long.
Though that's hard to say too. Codecs can be highly compressed or lightly compressed, so two files using the same codec and the same file format can be very different in size!
The Cinepak codec is also a delivery format, though it uses a completely different codec system as well as being for a different file format (AVI). You would neer use a file with a Cinepak codec as source material for editing. It's a highly compressed delivery format. Convert the file to a DV-AVI (an AVI using the DV codec) and it will likely be many times that size.

Yes, that's for network backups only.
What can I do to make sure that the backups are OK?
You can tell if the File System (the various directories, catalogs etc.) is ok by repairing your backup drive, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
You can "spot check" whether the Time Machine "Star Wars" display seems correct.
You can do a full system restore to another disk per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions, then start up from it and see if things are there and seem to work.
You can keep "secondary" backups (always a good idea).  See #27 in the FAQ post for some suggestions.
