Each time I attempt to change my home page from bing to google, I'm either told server cannot be found, or it returns to bing.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can open the open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" and drag the home button to where you want it to appear.

That site is using an old font technology called cufon, it uses canvas to draw the text into the font you want. Not really good for modern websites.
It is what the font was and how it was made. I never used Cufon but the documentation is here - Usage · sorccu/cufon Wiki · GitHub At a glance there are no render options for the double spacing so I am guessing it was how the font was generated.
I would scrap all of that completely tbh.

Changing home page

Just installed Firefox which gave me a google default page, I would like to change it to Yahoo but can't find any info on how to go about changing it. Can some one please advise, also, is Firefox any better or more advanced than Safari, I had sort of gotten use to Safari but found it couldn't read all the sites I visited?

Firefox preferences, click the "general" tab, then in the Homepage Locations enter in the page you want. Or first navigate to your favorite page, then go to the preferences and use the "Use Current Page" button.

For starters, I have a late 2009 Macbook (white) and am running Mountain Lion (10.8.2). Anyway, I purchased this computer off of someone else and I would like to change what I assume is the home directory (little house logo) from "appleuser" to my name. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find anything online that is helpful to me. I saw one thing that talked about changing the root login or something like that, but I couldn't even find it when following the steps that were given.
Anyway, like I said I bought the computer off of someone else and seeing the "appleuser" drives me insane so I'd like to change it. Anybody know how?

Open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences, create a new user account, and log in with it; alternatively, after unlocking the pane, control-click that account, choose Advanced Options, and change it there.

I have even tried to delete my iCloud account completely to start again but am not allowed without the iCloud password (which I don't have) there doesn't seem to be a place to change the email address of iCloud. This is the answer that I had expected, so in this case you could only change your gmail.com address to another providers email addres e.g. outlook.com, yahoo.com, etc., but you won't be able to change the gmail.com address to a icloud.com email address. Apple just won't let you do that.
Your iCloud account with @icloud.com email address and you Apple ID with gmail.com address are already connected and as I said before, Apple just let you merge this two IDs together.

you can change the page orientation by selecting the menu item "File > Print..." then adjust the orientation in "Page Orientation" section, then click "Done" (or "Print", if you want to print).

Safari - cannot change home page

I've been struggling to change the home page but cannot seem to get rid of the default Mac page. I have changed home page in preferences, and the required page is showing clearly. However, the Apple page still loads every time I start Safari or open a new tab. Obviously there is something I am doing wrong. Any views on this?

This is really odd indeed two years of this! Sorry for your frustration.
I think trying the Test or new account as Andy; )recommended would
be very telling.
Then you may have shipped the corrupt preference file over as well.

Open and apple page appears yet again (despite preferences being to, say, blank).
Just to be clear In Safari pref. the General tab;
In the -> New windows open with: drop down is that set to "Home Page"
You paste the preferred Url or you browse there
Click on use "Current Page" when on the page you want
and this does not work for you.
it will not work if it is set to anything but the "Home page"
I reiterated because you speak of "blank" does that mean you set it on
Empty.
I don't mean to be stubborn, it is just that i have had this issue.
Mine was caused by an over site with the Empty/ bookmark etc. option
on the drop down.
