Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

Hi there, I've upgraded my Snow Leopard iMac to Yosemite 10.10.1 and I would like to install Windows 8.1 using bootcamp. However, there's a pop-up saying that my Mac is only supporting Windows 7. Is there a way to change that, please? Thanks

Please find your Mac Model Identifier from About This Mac -> (More Info) -> System Report -> Hardware and compare it to the following list. If your model identifier appears in this list, you can only install Windows 7.

  • Would like to install Win 7 on Satellite C in UEFI mode

    Hello
I would like to install Windows 7 64bit instead of 64bit Windows 8 creates too much trouble.
I saw that there how to install:
    1 - BIOS Mode
    2 - UEFI MODE
I would like to install in UEFI mode and enjoy this mode.
But when I boot my PC by pressing F12, I do not have UEFI option for my DVD player:
    UEFI: HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GT51N
Do you have a specific tutorial for TOSHIBA to reinstall Windows 7 in this mode?
    thank you

If we go back to standard BIOS mode to install Windows 7 that can do because the GPT partition is not in MBR.
I followed this procedure but when I validate the DVD player that will read out the bootable DVD WIndows 7 but it puts puts FAIL!!

  • I'd like to install Windows on my MacBookAir in a new partition

I would like to install Windows on a new partition on my MacBook Air 1,1 2008 model. It has an Intel GMA X3100 video driver, and it's terrible. It lags whenever I play a game and watch videos both if it's online or downloaded. I check that by passing the mouse pointer along the dock, and the magnification is not smooth when it lags. To un-lag it I have to turn it off and on, which is quite annoying. I've seen on the internet that the X3100 works better with Windows. Now my question is, with which windows will it work better with? Xp, Vista or 7? As any MacBook Air 1,1, it has 2 Ram, 80 Gb HardDrive, and an Intel GMA X3100 video card. Will that be enough to install at least XP?
I didn't know if weather to ask the Apple Communities or Microsoft, and since I chose apple, I'm not sure it you guys will know much about windows, so please, tell me accurate information. I thank you for your help.

its up to you which version of windows do you want to use.
just to tell you that there is a update to your version of bootcamp here Boot Camp Support Software 4.0.4033   to enable it to install windows 7
your video card may be able to play those game at a low setting

Get a Virtual Macine software program, Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, and install XP in a virtual machine.
You can't install XP in a Boot Camp Partition with Lion or Mt Lion, only Win 7.

  • I have a 1998 bondi blue iMac and I would like to put windows on it help

So about 7 years ago my school was selling all their 1998 bondi blue iMacs for 50 dollars each. We used it for a tiny bit and then we got a better computer. Anyway I don't have enough money to get a laptop and I just got a desk so I set it up in my room as my computer. It has Mac OS so it is pretty good in that sense but it has no hardware like inbuilt wifi just the option. Anyway I want it to be a bit better so I would like to run windows 7 and do some things to speed it up. Is there any way I can keep the programmes I already has on the mac because I already had word and things on the mac so I would like to bring them across. So can you please tell me how to put windows on and speed it up. Also now the fan makes a funny noise, I put the vacuum up to the vent to try and see if that fixed it but it still makes that noise and I am worried of a fire hazard, anybody have any ideas?
Thank you so much to who answers this

I recall that this model did NOT have a fan, so you may be hearing the precursor to its hard drive dying...
I purchased the SONY Supressa USB 1.0 CD-R external burner to use with this Mac.
It burned at 2X, but many times I burned at 1X to reduce the number of "coasters" that it produced!

Serial numbers for older versions do not work across platforms.
At one time, when the product was current, you could get Adobe to switch you to the other platform, but I don't know whether Adobe will do that for old versions.  I do know it's not going to work if you try to use your Windows license for a Mac installation.

Please stop asking about that on this forum.
There are plenty of informations on the Internet if you want to do it but nobody here will help, because is against the forum's rules.
And, you can't buy Mountain Lion if you do not have a Macintosh with at least Snow Leopard installed.
There is no physical media. Mountain Lion is provided by Apple through the Mac App Store.

Thanks to all for reviewing my question.  I am trying to avoid a possible disaster here, having to load about 90 cd's all over again.  If anyone knows, could you tell me what will happen if I download iTunes 9.0, and install it.  Will it copy all of my music into it, or fail to recognize it, or recognize 8.0 and just upgrade rather than replace it?  Thanks again.  Tom

I purchased the design suite for PC but would like to install my second licensed download on a mac.  Can I do this?

Your Windows license might only be installed on a Mac if you install Windows emulation software.
While it might be possible to swap to the Mac platform, which depends on which version is involved, that means giving up the Windows license.

  • Installing Windows on iMac?

    Installing Windows on iMac?
I finally decided  to install Win XP oniMac. Reading Boot Camp Instructions all went well until afterputting windows disk in drive I have no mouse or keyboard functions.I'm using keyboard & mouse that came with my imac,  both are plugin USB connections (keyboard plugs in USB port at rear of iMac &Mouse into keyboard USB slot) I did read in Boot Camp that a USBkeyboard and mouse, or a built-in keyboard and trackpad  is required,so I reasoned since keyboard & supplied mouse are USB powered they would be alright, not so.Windows is prompting to push ENTER or F3 to continue, but I have no function or mouse pointer to do this.Plus I can't eject Windows disk or nothing else but hold button downon rear to shut down iMac, then if I restart iMac we go back toWindows trying to install again. How do I get outta this mess? Even if I get another USB keyboard will it function, or am I missingsomething here? Thanks for any help here.

You will have a much better chance of getting an answer if you post over in the BootCamp forum.

  • Sony Walkman NW-F806 Japanese Version, Would Like English Install for PC ?

I purchased an NW-F806, and switched the menu to English. I can add music by dragging or using Windows Media Player. However, in order to do other things with it, I would like to install the Initial Setup File in English on my PC. However, It doesn't come with the device. I attempted to contact Sony Support and Sony Asia Support, but they have not responded. Does anyone know where to find a setup.exe file for this model, or how to get the software to work in English, on a PC ?

Sorry, you are on the wrong forum. You need to ask this on sony electronics forum:
