Would running voice over cause this problem?

I have a ? for anyone who might know the answer. I recently noticed that pressing shift + s does not make the s uppercase. I can only uppercase the s by pressing the caps lock key. Would VO cause this? I have tried it with both shift keys and it only has this problem with the letter s. Come to think of it, it happens when universal access is not running as well. Any ideas as to the cause of this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Funny how things work. While reading another thread, I found someone with a link on to make selected text talk through system preferences> speech> text to speech. Within those options I found that the key that was set to read any text that is highlighted was shift + s. Thanks for that, here is the article if anyone is interested.

Did you know that your Mac can read aloud to you? Mac OS X Leopard includes a cool Text to Speech function that makes the Mac speak selected text in text-based files — including web pages, email messages, spreadsheets, calendar entries, PDFs, text documents, Finder windows, and even iTunes.
To start, open the System Preferences panel under the Apple icon and click on Speech. Select the Text to Speech tab, check the option “Speak selected text when the key is pressed,” and click the Set Key option. Choose one modifier key — Command, Control, Option, or Shift — plus one other key of your choice, then click OK. Now each time you type this key combination, your Mac will read aloud any text you have selected. To stop the speech, type the same key combination again.
You can even choose your Mac’s voice. Mac OS X includes 24 human-sounding and novelty voices, from the suave Alex to the robotic Zarvox. (To see the complete list, click the “Show More Voices” option at the bottom of the pull-down System Voice menu.) You can also ask your Mac to speak more slowly or quickly by adjusting the Speaking Rate slider. Whichever you choose, listening to your text can be a surprisingly useful tool for editing and proofreading.
In addition to speaking selected text aloud, you can configure Text to Speech to announce when an application needs attention or to summon you if you ignore an onscreen alert. This function includes an adjustable delay between the text alert and the spoken announcement, which gives you a chance to tend to the alert before being verbally prompted. You can also have your Mac announce the time on the hour, half-hour, or quarter-hour. To set this up, choose the Clock tab under Date & Time in System Preferences and check Announce the Time.
Note that Text to Speech differs from VoiceOver, which provides more comprehensive control of speech and enables the blind or those with low vision to use a Mac. Also, some applications that come with Mac OS X Leopard — including Mail, Calculator, and Chess — and some other Mac programs, such as FileMaker Pro, are “self-speaking” and provide speech capabilities that you can configure independently of the Text to Speech System Preference.

Have you actually compared what you sent (in your Sent Mail Folder) with what is in the reply?
Note that Auto Correction can often change what you think that you are typing.
Are you sure that the return message has your original message intact and not edited by the recipient?
Bottom line: if the recipient does a simple reply to your message with the original message attached the system is not going to edit your message.

I'm sorry to hear your having issues with your S5. I would be happy to look into this with you. Are there different apps on both devices? Do either device auto play videos when opening apps? The next time the problem happens, note the date and time the problem occurred, then go to Applications/Utilities/Console and copy the log starting at the time of the crash. Paste the log in a reply. Please do not use a screen shot as they can be hard to read. If there are repeated runs of the same messages, please post only one run. Be selective about what you post and don’t post huge amounts. Our Environment is Essbase 11.1.2.2 and working on Essbase EAS and Shared Services components.One of our user tried to run the Cal Script of one Application and faced this error.

I have done some Google and found that we need to add something in Essbase.cfg file like below.

Possible Problems
Analytic Services could not lock enough blocks to perform the calculation.
Possible Solutions
Increase the number of blocks that Analytic Services can allocate for a calculation:
Set the maximum number of blocks that Analytic Services can allocate to at least 500.
If you do not have an $ARBORPATH/bin/essbase.cfg file on the server computer, create one using a text editor.
In the essbase.cfg file on the server computer, set CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH to 500.
Stop and restart Analytic Server.
Add the SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH command to the beginning of the calculation script.
Set the data cache large enough to hold all the blocks specified in the CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH setting.
Determine the block size.
Set the data catche size.
Actually in our Server Config file(essbase.cfg) we dont have below data added.
CalcLockBlockHigh 2000
CalcLockBlockDefault 200
CalcLockBlocklow 50
So my doubt is if we edit the Essbase.cfg file and add the above settings and restart the services will it work? and if so why should we change the Server config file if the problem is with one application Cal Script. Please guide me how to proceed.

Your calculation needs to hold more blocks in memory than your current set up allows.
From the docs (quoting so I don't have to write it, not to be a smarta***:
CALCLOCKBLOCK specifies the number of blocks that can be fixed at each level of the SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH | DEFAULT | LOW calculation script command.
When a block is calculated, Essbase fixes (gets addressability to) the block along with the blocks containing its children. Essbase calculates the block and then releases it along with the blocks containing its children. By default, Essbase allows up to 100 blocks to be fixed concurrently when calculating a block. This is sufficient for most database calculations. However, you may want to set a number higher than 100 if you are consolidating very large numbers of children in a formula calculation. This ensures that Essbase can fix all the required blocks when calculating a data block and that performance will not be impaired.
Example
If the essbase.cfg file contains the following settings:
CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH 500 CALCLOCKBLOCKDEFAULT 200 CALCLOCKBLOCKLOW 50
then you can use the following SET LOCKBLOCK setting commands in a calculation script:
SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH;
means that Essbase can fix up to 500 data blocks when calculating one block.
Support doc is saying to change your config file so those settings can be made available for any calc script to use.
On a side note, if this was working previously and now isn't then it is worth investigating if this is simply due to standard growth or a recent change that has made an unexpected significant impact.

How to check if home directories are disabled & what else could cause this problem?

We're having this issue with our server where some clients are having an extended authorization time to log onto our server, whether they attempt to do so via VPN or on our Network directly. This issue only seems to persist for some users and happens every time they attempt to log on. Log on can take up to 10 minutes, however, rarely ever fails.
I was told to check size of the home directories but the other IT here said he's pretty sure he disabled the home directory things. The only reason we have these servers is so that people can dump files on them for later use or to transfer between eachother for whichever project they may be working on. How do I check whether the home directories are enabled or not, and if they are, where can I determine their size? All I am seeing in the filesystem is the login for the Admin account and the other IT's account on the server.
What else could be causing this problem? It is not a machine-based problem as I can log into the server using their machine almost instantaneously. About half of our users are logged on instantly as well. We've been getting complaints about this for about a couple months now. It didn't seem to happen prior to February (though I can't say for sure because I started here at the end of January).
The server is an Xserve running 10.5.x or 10.6.x (two different servers). Computers being used range from Mac OS 10.7-10.9.2. I don't believe anyone uses windows that is having an issue.

Every other time I'm using Firefox, I get a warning pop-up window stating that something is trying to trick Firefox to update. It's a Web scam that only affects your browser, and only temporarily. There are several ways to recover.
1. Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press the key combination command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
2. Press and hold command-W. You may hear repeating alert sounds. While holding the keys, click the OK button in the popup. A different popup may appear, which you can cancel out of as usual.
3. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
4. If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. None of the windows and tabs will reopen.
After closing the malicious page, from the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

Would a new LCD fix this problem?

Ignore that light gray "line" that runs through the middle. That is a crack, and its not noticeable at all so I could care less.
My real issue is the huge blobs of gray shown on the top left and bottom right corners. They take up lots of space, and cover up keys. I'm sure you can all guess that I dropped my phone, and the lines appeared and began growing rapidly. So would replacing the LCD solve this problem?

Yes, I just get that message. I don't see how I could investigate this problem.
I didn't mention that this happened when I was consolidating my library, not copying files to another computer.
In other words, I'm using a "normal" itunes procedure, itunes won't complete it, and won't tell me exactly why or how to figure out how to fix it...
Is there at least some easy way to tell which files were successfully copied to my itunes music folder so I can work on moving the uncopied files?

First, you must use a specific [[Managing profiles|profile]] for Firefox 4.0 Beta and keep your current one for Firefox 3.6 to prevent interferences between the two versions.

Thanks for the input. I was finally able to find some test conditions that duplicated the problem, and it is either that or some other out-of-spec diffraction distortion. So I sent it off for repair.

On my iphone, when I get into Messages, I see a list of message thread names and at the top right is an icon with a square and pencil coming out of it. If I tap it, I can begin composing a new message with having to deal with any others.
If on your screen you see one or more message "bubbles", then press the "Messages" button at the upper left to go back to the home page for messages. There you can tap the compose icon.
