Would synchronizing with an empty folder delete what's on my zen xt

Hi,
I'm having problems transfering my songs from my zen xtra to my pc (long overdue backup). It stalls midway through the process saying there is not enough disk space (despite having 250GBs free!)
The only thing I'm yet to try is synching my player with a folder. I've downloaded the zen synch manager and have wmp0 to synch also. However, I'm concerned that synching with an empty folder will delete all my songs.
I'm running on the original 60GB Zen Xtra firmware and have mediasource organizer 5.
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.
THanks
Tom

Hi,
For this problem, you can try to use Process Monitor the trace when creating HomeGroup on XPS PC, then find the reason of this problem.

  • Firefox crashes with an empty folder

    Every time firefox crashes, it creats an empty folder in $HOME directory. Anybody has a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

    What is the folder called?
    Google doesn't report any similar bugs...
    My FF from default repos v3.5.4 doesn't create any folders.  Try 'pacman -Syu to upgrade to latest and greatest version'.
    It crashing at all is a problem.  Can you reproduce crashes consistently (there is currently a problem with bookmarking).
    If the up-to-date version still has this problem, please submit a bug report to ArchBugs @ [urk]bugs.archlinux.org[/url] or the upstream mozilla bug tracker @ bugzilla.mozilla.org

  • Windows 8.1 (64) What is contained in the Machiekey folder and what would happen if it was renamed and replaced with an empty folder?

    Microsoft support engineer, Mohamed Ameen, suggested I post this question/problem here.
    I have a Windows 8.1 (64) PC that has a problem with a phantom or ghost Homegroup that is preventing it from becoming a part of a Homegroup on my home LAN. The Homegroup troubleshooter utility and all of the standard troubleshooting suggestions online have
    been of no help.
    I found this thread ("http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/homegroup-wont-go-away-ghost-group-on-whole/8a4f464f-e461-47aa-af05-07a4fd4875fd") which suggests replacing the Machinekeys folder, but it has very little
    in the way of instructions on how to completely perform the "repair" and/or the risks of causing other OS and program failures.
    I have added additional information and screen shots to the thread I started on the Microsoft Community site and rather than repeating all of that I thought it would be easier to include a thread to that discussion: (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-networking/what-is-contained-in-the-machinekeys-folder/d7fb5189-e8c2-4ec8-ba2f-9e4e53905703

  • White screen with an empty folder ?

    Macbook pro: After my screen froze, I did a hard shut down by pressing the start button a couple of seconds.  After that, my screen open up on a white screen and after a couple of seconds, a grey folder with a "?" in the middle started to flash.  After a while it shut down automatically.
    What should I do from there ?  I'm resourceless..
    Thanks

    Hello, Marc Chabot.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    Here is a troubleshooting article that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.

  • Had to wipe my harddrive, reloaded itunes now can not put stuff on my iphone, says i have to sync with new itunes and delete what i have on phone even when i try to switch to manual

    anyway i can sync without losing everything i have on there?

    You cannot.
    This si the way the iphone works.
    You need to use your backup copy top put everything back on your computer.
    Certainly you did not wipe your hard drive without making sure that your backup copy of your computer was current.

  • Lion: problems with resume, reboot, move, delete ...

    Some of the Lion problems I've been having (on 2 laptops: an older "Pro" and a new "Air"):
              -can't delete some files without password;
              -can't move some files or folders, only copy;
              -opening a program by clicking a data file also opens other data files from previous uses (not necessarily the most recent use);
              -rebooting opens several programs, always the same ones with the same data files (not necessarily from the most recent uses);
              -opening Safari opens several tabs always with the same sites;
              -Safari's History is gone, except for 2011 items, and new items are not being recorded;
              -Keychain issues, often needing repair;
              -MobileMe syncing issues.
    Why and how do all of these things happen? How are they related to each other? Why should I have to tinker like this? And what would happen if I weren't geeky? (I've left my iMac on Snow Leopard, which is wonderful.)
    Things are coming under control, but I have pulled all sorts of information from a variety of Web sources, none of which I found all in one place; hence this compendium. The exact sequence of what I did is lost, and what factors were the ones which worked I do not know. (Very time-consuming …) Comments welcome!
    Should I just have re-installed Lion on the laptops?
    ====
    Permissions:
    A lot of these problems seem related to obscure permissions.
    Here is a Terminal command which clears all ACLs, at least in the "Home" folder.
              chmod -R -N ./*
    (But it generated this message on the MBPro:
    chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file abc.numbers: Operation not permitted
    chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file Commands: Invalid argument
    chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file Notification: Invalid argument
    chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file ubiquity.socket: Invalid argument
    chmod: Failed to clear ACL on file Saved Application State: Operation not permitted
    … partly perhaps because I had "locked" the abc.numbers file and the Saved Application State folder. I doubt if these things matter.)
    Reboot while holding Cmd-R: this is something like "re-install" mode; when it opens, instead of choosing one of the options presented, open Terminal from the Utilities menu, and type "resetpassword". A program opens but don't reset the passwords, but rather reset all of the permissions, including ACLs, using the button at the lower right. Close it, close Terminal, and the reboot normally.
    Safari:
    File menu, Empty Cache and Reset Safari
    Library (from Home folder, requires special steps to get to it in Lion, e.g. hold the Option key when at the Finder "Go" menu):
              Library/Preferences: moved then later deleted several plist files for offending programs, which I then had to reconfigure (e.g. Safari: reconfigure Toolbar, go through Safari Preferences …) -(they will all reappear instantly in some "default" state) -trying to delete the plist.lockfile as well caused problems - Trash wouldn't "empty" it ("in use"), but doesn't seem to matter.
              Library/Preferences, ByHost: see below
              Library/Saved States: see below
    ByHost:
    Some users opine to go to ByHost, close all apps, then "lock" (using the "Get Info" feature) the file com.apple.loginwindow{…}.plist. See this "discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17213577#17213577
    Saved States:
    Some users say to delete "Library/Saved Application State" files (folders) before doing the above (https://discussions.apple.com/message/17499355#17499355 and http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/13/turn-off-resume-the-definitive-solution/). Then "lock" the "Saved Application State" folder. There may be some problems getting it to stay locked(?).
    But I moved several  of the "Saved Application State" folders and I forget just what, but one computer seemed unhappy afterwards, the other fine. On the unhappy one, I replaced them (but not yet having locked the overall folder), and deleted some of the files inside the individual folders, like com.apple.TextEdit.savedState. (I suspect this paragraph is unimportant, but cannot be sure.)
    Sharing: remember that the settings under System Preferences, Sharing, also matter. (So do the settings under "Accounts and Users", Guests.)
    The "resume open applications feature" on reboot seems weird. If I say "no", I wonder if it wasn't bringing back all of the programs from some distant previous reboot.
    Make sure that under System Preference, General, the option to restore on restart is unchecked.
    I have learned that Disk Utility's "Repair Permissions" works for quite specific files and doesn't work for the Home folder.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452
    Make sure that there aren't numerous "Login" items under System Preference, Users/Accounts.
    Changing permissions via the "Get Info" windows, and "applying to enclosed folders" can be a bad idea, especially if applied to something like the Home folder. Apparently it propagates ACLs too(?), although not visible there, and the effects can be undesirable.
    Some permissions on "Get Info" panes have two "everyone"s, and the one with "Custom" settings can not be changed nor deleted.
    Make sure all systems updates have been done (as usual).
    MobileMe sync issues are another story - seems to be settling - perhaps related to "Permissions" issues above …
    And what about Preferences, Caches? Anything there that would help with the above problems? What about the "root"(?) Library?
    Some of the above tasks can be accomplished by 3rd-party software, but I'm getting there without using anything other than native Mac OS X Lion tools.
    ====
    Anyway, as said, it's all settling down.
    Comments/corrections most welcome.
    Charles

    Boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
    In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
    Select your boot volume if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • 2 Photo Stream Folders on iPhone - Why do I have 2 photo stream folders on my iPhone? One is accurate and the other is empty. How do I delete the empty one? The empty folder doesn't allow my photos to be synced with my ipad2.

    I tried disabling the iCloud on my iPhone and ipad2 and re-enabling in hopes elimnating the extra empty folder on my iphone.  Despite disabling the iCloud on my iPhone, the empty Photo Stream folder remained on my iPhone and the other Photo Stream folder with my pictures was removed.  I think because of this empty folder, my iPad isn't being prayed with my photos. Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?

    You can uncheck multiple songs by selecting all the songs you want to uncheck, then right-click and choose "uncheck selection".  Also, make sure that you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings or the sync process will ignore your selections.
    You can remove all the photos from your camera roll using Preview on your Mac.  Connect your phone to your Mac, open Preview, go to File>Import from iPhone.  When your photos appear in Preview, select the photos you want to delete, then click on the icon at the bottom showing the red circle with the diagonal line through it (see image below), then click Delete.
    To remove photos from the Photo Stream album on your phone you'll have to either reset Photo Stream (deleting all the photos from iCloud) or turn off Photo Stream on your phone.

  • How to delete photo albums previously synchronized with iCloud

    I previously set my iPhone to enable photo streaming. I also set iTunes to backup to iCloud. After a while, I decided to revert to back up and sychronize with my PC. I also disabled photo streaming.  Prior to this change, my photo albums got uploaded to iCloud including a particular album which I subsequently deleted from my PC photo folders. When I tried to synchronize through iTunes, the album will not get removed in my iPhone, even if it is no longer in my PC photo folder. I assumed it got stuck in the iCloud but I have already disabled photo streaming and this was supposed to delete all photos in iCloud.
    I tried all sorts of suggestions, but short of restoring, which I find such a ridiculous solution because it would delete all my data and all I wanted was to delete this one empty folder. Eventually I stumbled upon a simple yet effective one. Here's what I did:
    1.  Connected the iPhone to my PC which fired up iTunes (I set this as my default).
    2.  Clicked on my iPhone under Devices.
    3.  Under Summary, selected Backup to this Computer.  [This is to make sure I have a most recent backup of my iPhone files]
    4.  Clicked Sync button.
    5.  Clicked Photos tab (rightmost tab)
    6.  Unchecked Sync Photos From box.  [This will delete all photos in the iPhone]
    7.  Clicked Sync button again.
    8.  When sychronization finished, ejected the iPhone from iTunes by clicking on the eject icon to the right of your iPhone's name.
    9.  Went to Photos in the iPhone. Only Camera Roll and the empty Album appeared.  I clicked on Edit and a red (do not enter sign) icon appeared to the left of the empty Album name. Tapped that and proceeded to delete the album. No more albums would be displayed.  [Note: The red icon did not show up previously when there were other albums listed.]
    10.  Reconnected my iPhone to PC, starting up iTunes.
    11.  Went to Photos tab.
    12.  Checked Sync Photos From box again. [This will restore all your selected photos/albums to the iPhone]
    13.  Clicked Sync button again.
    14.  When synchronization finished, ejected the iPhone from iTunes.
    15.  Checked the Photos album.  The empty folder is no longer there!
    Hope this helps others with a similar issue.

    If these are albums that were synced from your computer via iTunes then you can only delete them by unselecting them on the Photos tab when your iPad is connected to your computer's iTunes and then syncing, they can't be deleted directly on the iPad.
    If these are albums that you have created directly on the iPad in the Photos app via the Edit button, then you can delete them by tapping the Edit button and then tapping the 'x' that appears on the top left corner of the album

  • What happens when an iPod is synchronized with an iTunes library that is bigger than the available space on the iPod?

    What happens when an iPod is synchronized with an iTunes library that is bigger than the available space on the iPod? I did this some time ago. On screen was shown available space somewhat less than 120 GB, but maybe somewhere between 10 and 20 GB more in the library. I had to get the iPod updated anyway, so I did proceed. However, afterwards the total content of the library was only about 110 GB. Now I wonder what did actually happen. Was the first sign only corrected for double copies of the same files or lost files or where files deleted from iTunes? And if files where deleted from iTunes, were they also deleted from my computer?

    Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one.  Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

  • Can't Delete Empty Folder in Deleted Items

    Running Outlook 2013 on a Windows 8.1 machine. Exchange 2010 on SBS 2011 platform.
    I have an empty folder within the deleted items folder. I can manually delete all messages within the deleted items but I cannot get that empty sub folder deleted. My permissions are set to "owner". I'm getting a message that says, "outlook
    is synchronizing local changes made to items in this folder. You cannot remove this folder until the synchronization with the server is complete". I've done shift+F9 in both the deleted items and the sub folder and that hasn't helped.
    Please advise.

    Hello,
    I recommend you check if owa has the issue. If the issue doesn't occur on owa, the issue may be related to outlook.
    I find a thread that has similar error for your reference.

    EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!
    IS THERE ANY WAY TO RETREIVE AN ACCIDENTALLY DELETED BACK UP FROM MY TIME MACHINE DRIVE????
    In other words, I emptied out a folder on my main MAC to make space and the next subsequent backup backed up the EMPTY FOLDER and then deleted the "old backup" that actually contained the contents of the very important folder.
    Now only the emptied folder exists on my MAC and in the two backups on my Time machine backup drive.
    This was clearly a big mistake on my part not realizing that the "old backup" being deleted by Time Machine would include backed up files that I had no intention of getting rid of....
    What can I do now?
    Is DATA RETREIVAL even an option?
    I am sure that the Folder of files that I need are on the most recently deleted "OLD BACKUP" but how do I get to this, if even possible?????
    Super desperate situation here...

    It may be possible to recover some of the data, if it hasn't been overwritten, but it won't be cheap or easy.
    You've posted in the Time Capsule forum, but you mention a "backup drive."  If your backups are on a Time Capsule's internal HD, instead of an external HD, it's even worse.
    See Data Recovery.
    Good luck.

  • I have a 27" imac (intel) my hard drive failed and I installed a new one. This is my first time dealing with this so I am having trouble re-installing the OS. Install disc spits out and ? mark with folder appears what am I missing?

    Like the title says. My 1 TB drive failed and unfortunately my computer isn't covered on the replacement program even though my hard drive is the one they are claiming to replace. So that is not a solution just to get that out of the way. So I replaced the hard drive. What I am having trouble with is re-installing my OS. I have 10.6. When I load it and restart it just spits it out and I get the question mark folder. What am I doing wrong is there a step I'm missing? I did do a back up to my Time Machine before the crash. Can I plug it into it and reload format? I'm new to this so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Well, let's hope that nothing was jiggled out of place when you were installing the new hard drive. Your optical drive may just be out of alignment or the disc you have is "dirty." Get a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol, then clean the disc as thoroughly as you can starting from the center and working outward in a concentric circlular motion. See if that helps. In particular clean the inner portion well.
    If this does not help, then you have a problem. You have opened the computer yourself. That action voids all support from Apple. If you take the computer in for service the store may refuse to service the computer. This is not related to your now expired warranty.

  • What would happen if I were to delete the primary email address linked to my Apple ID?

    I wish to completely de-activate my @hotmail email address in order to be left with just my @icloud email address becuase I would find life more managable that way.
    I found out that I cannot change my primary @hotmail email address linked to my Apple ID with an @icloud email address as it is an active, separate Apple ID (in itself with a separate purchase / download history etc)...
    Also I am aware that separate Apple ID's cannot be merged together...
    My question is: "What would happen if I were to delete the primary email address linked to my Apple ID?"
    Would I be able to keep and use my purchases, provided they are backed up on my Mac and authorised?
    Would I be able to update those transferred purchases even though the email address linked to the apple ID in which the app was bought no longer exists?

    You can change the primary e-mail address associated with your Apple ID, so long as it isn't a mac, me or icloud email.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621
    Your Apple ID account, regardless of the primary email, can never be 'deleted', just abandoned.
    You could always just switch between the two Apple IDs as needed, to access the different purchases.
