Would the nokia n95 or 5800 work on a CDMA

im wondering because i looked on the FAQ's and they said you needed to have a phone with duel network or something like that . I plan to switch from ATT to verizon in about 6 months i was wondering if thier is any way i can still use my n95 8 gb on the verizon network or if thier is anything i can do to get it on the netowrk or is it just a $500 paper weight haha. I was also wondering the same thing for the 5800
Message Edited by utpxxx on 04-Apr-2009 12:00 AM

Unfortunately no... The CDMA runs on a different band altogether and does not require a sim card.
Both the N95 and 5800 does not support the CDMA bandwidth.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • Is the Nokia N95 8GB still manufactured/sold?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I probably shouldn't be asking a question like this on this part of the forum but I got desperate since I couldn't find the information anywhere.
I've been wanting the Nokia N95 (8GB) for a long time, so lately I've been looking on the internet for this particular product. I REALLY want it, and I need this exact model, but I can only find it on Amazon and Ebay and some random small-time sites and I must say that the sellers seem a bit fishy. I was wondering, since this is a forum filled with Nokia NSeries geeks (no offense!!!!!) do you know whether this phone is still being manufactured? And if so, where do I get more information? I've looked everywhere, physically and on the internet, and most people in shops around here just tell me "N95? That's an old phone, no one sells that anymore....".
So yeah, I would appreciate any help, and I apologize if this "wrong-forum-post" seems like a nuisance.

The N95 8GB is no longer manufactured by Nokia but you may still be able to purchase one via the means you've already mentioned (Amazon or Ebay).
You're right to be wary of Ebay but Amazon should be a safe option.
    Ray.

  • Facebook Client for the Nokia N95

    Hi
I was wandering if that there will be a facebook client for the nokia n95.
I know they have released one for the nokia n96, which comes with the new update, but they don't seem to have one for the nokia n95.
Does anyone know when there will be one released?
    Thanks

That is very strange. I am in Ireland and it is available to me. Try this. Goto to www.ovi.com, select store, set your phone type to N95 and search for Facebook. Even if it does not allow you to download the Facebook client, there are plenty more apps that also support Facebook.

  • Sync the Nokia N95 8g

    Hi
Can anyone help me to sync the new Nokia N95 8g to my iMac. I have downloaded and installed the plugin from Nokia and the device can be seen under USB connections but isync does not find it.
    Thanks
    Stransham

It seems that the v10.0.271 build of the N95 8G software incorrectly identifies itself as Nokia N00. This means that iSync doesn't recognize it. You can fix it by edit the file /library/PhonePlugins/NokiaN95_8GB1v1.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist and change the text near the end of the file from <string>Nokia+Nokia N95 8GB</string> to <string>Nokia+Nokia N00</string>
You will need to unpair the device and then use Bluetooth Setup assistance to make it work
It then works... there maybe a new version of the firmware from Nokia that can be dowloaded.
NOTE: you can determine the firmware by entering *#0000# on the main phone screen

  • I am in the military and will be moving to germany in a month. would the US bought iphone 5 work in germany?

i am in the military and will be moving to germany in a month. would the iphone 5 work in germany?

An unlocked GSM phone would work anywhere with any SIM card.  But, if the German iPhone 5 is th a1429-GSM only model, it will not work with AT&T nor T-Mobile's LTE frequencies here.  Similarly, the A1428 model sold for use with AT&T here may not work overseas as the LTE frequencies may be different then the two supported ones.
In terms of technology, 2 or 3 years is a looong time.  By the time you get back, the iPhone 5 will be ancient tech.  I would suggest you just get one in Germany so you know it will be fine over there.  When you come back in 2 or 3 years, sell it, donate it or whatever, and get something new that you again know will be fine for use here in the USA.
Plus that way, you could buy a contract subsidized German phone, and save on the initial cost of the phone.  If you buy from AT&T here, even if they will unlock it because of your service, what happens with the contract?  And if you buy an unlocked one (when they become available), ignoring the LTE compatability issues, you pay a lot more out of pocket for the phone.
No matter what you buy, it is going to be very, very behind the tech curve after 2 or 3 years (not to mention, it may well be needing a new battery, which might well cost more to replace then that old phone would be worth on the used market).

  • Anybody got the Nokia IPSEC VPN to work?

I am about to have a go at this.
It's quite weird how Nokia implemented it. You start here
    https://expertcentre.nokia.com/en/articles/kbarticles/Pages/Nokia-VPN-resource-hub.aspx
There is no user interface at all in the phone. You install their VPN app from the store. For the 808, this app is "not available" so one has to "obtain it via the usual means" (what a waste of time). Then you have to download a VPN config app for the PC, which is about 50MB and downloads incredibly slowly (2-3 hours). Then you download a .vpn template and edit that. Then you transfer that to the phone.
I am using a Draytek 2955 router which definitely supports IPSEC but getting that to work was an absolute b*astard, and I got it working only between two of these routers (site-site VPN) and by strictly following a Draytek app note.
There used to be a Nokia employee here who helped somebody to get it working but he is now showing as retired.

I am also very keen to learn how to get VPN done on my E72, though E72 does have built-in VPN support (at least per Nokia).
Have you done everything on the phone side, including downloading and installing the VPN app, and transferring a properly configured VPN template to the phone?
    Thanks for sharing the information.

  • Who can solve iSync problem with Nokia N95? (I use the Nokia plug already)

    Hello
Since I bought my new cool Mac:, I sync my N95 with iSync and the Nokia N95 plug-in. Thinking at first that is works flawlessly (as other members here seem to think as well) I later found out, that if I make changes to any calendar or "to do" description! on either the N95 or the Mac it syncs, but only up until a certain number of characters. If I exceed this number, the description on the phone will simply be cut off - in the iCal it still fully appears though.
Rather surprising, since when syncing with a PC via the Nokia PC suite there is no such an issue. All my often lengthy descriptions are fully put on the phone. And if I sync back there are no problems either. So I guess it has to do with the iSync protocol or this Nokia N95 iSync plug-in? Any ideas, solutions...? Any help greatly appreciated!

The flex cable is damaged. Some years back when I had a Nokia N95 8GB the flex cable was damaged and for a few days the screen was showing strange colours at the display and eventually the screen became black. I went to a local repair shop and I replaced the flex cable and what I noticed was that the flex cable that it had no proximity sensor on it so I told the technician to remove the proximity sensor on the original one and replace it with the new flex cable. Another thing I discovered was that after fitting the flex cable and returning the cover the front camera was not in its usual position so the technician had to do some modifications to get it back to its normal position and after a few months it was damaged and this time I went to Nokia Care Centre and replaced the flex cable for a small fee and what I noticed was that the flex cable that I previously bought was a fake cable. The one bought from Nokia Care Centre had its proximity sensor and when the cover was returned the camera was in its exact position the same as it was with the original flex cable. What I wanted to say is that please beware of fake flex cables on the market and I suggest that you buy it from an authorised Nokia Dealer.

  • Nokia N95 8GB and Windows 7 Home Premium Dutch

:robotmad:Ladies and readers, I have, including a Nokia N95 8GB the desktop is new and draaid on windows home premium en when I Vista had worked with the Nokia everything is perfect. Now that I do I get windows 7 have not been contract more Nokia N95 8GB through the desktop computer get the notification that the software is not good, but which I have already removed and again installed but there is also clear the need to install software that it is old windows and vista so there is not to WINDOWS 7 I will take place this is a major disaster for Nokia that, over time inspeeld on a real upgrade for the desktop so that there is also normal contact with the Nokia N95 8GB can be made. why it is not on the openingspagina of Nokia if it would have been! We are nevertheless service to clients and should do so we get a good appliance bought and not a WHICH CANNOT comuniseren with the computer since Microsoft now Windows 7 sells and what I am therefore in the original state I can install by an approved fitter. Therefore, I would like to see that Nokia a link sends so that I can make both wireless contact and the mobiletelefoon can facilitate upgrading and data can uitwissellen. Otherwise, this after 3 pieces my last Nokia. vetaling Babylon

Dude i think u just spoke french!
Sorry to say that i didnt get a word that you said.
I assume you have upgraded to windows 7 and are unable to use or install nokia pc suite.
First of all it aint nokia's fault that windows 7 came after they had uploaded the setup.
All you need to do is download the pc suite to you computer or laptop or whatever it is ... then right click on the setup and click compatibility mode nd just keep pressing next next next.
Im sure your pc suite will be installed then and you will be able to use your computer to transfer everything to and from the phone..
Have fun and lemme know if it worked.
Chances of workin = 101% because im on windows 7 aswell

  • 6.84, Vista and N95 - Still not working

I was kind of hoping that 6.84 would be the answer to a few problems however there are still problems with the Nokia Flagship and Microsofts Flagship OS.
The Driver for the "Nokia N95 Bluetooth Modem" still is not supported comes up with Code 10 Error. Driver is not automatically detected by windows. I manually used "Nokia Phone Bluetooth Modem" which works OK.
The other Bluetooth Services such as OBEX still do not have drivers available for them.
Still appears to be Malfunctioning really. IMO Perhaps its wise to make sure things interwork with each other rather than rushing to bring them out.

I mean that the system is unable to initalise and install device driver for "Bluetooth perhiperal device".
If the stack is unable to support the profiles then the phone should not request them.
Also the driver that is "Nokia N95 Bluetooth" Does not work under Vista - I suspect that its a Windows XP Driver, because it comes back with "Code 10 This device cannot start"
Come on now, Vista has been in Beta for ages and RTM for at least six months there is really no excuse for it.

  • Nokia N95 through Orange and Satnav

Can anyone advise. I purchased my nokia N95 via an upgrade through Orange. I wanted this phone specifically because it has satnav features. I was told that i could purchase the software needed to activate the satnav feature through Orange and that it would be at a small one off subscription fee and that there would be no further charges to use the Satnav.
Well i have just received my phone bill and i am being charged for using my satnav each time i use it !!! I specifically asked about this feature an the salesman clearly said that there would be no further charges. Also using the satnav i have found out that each time i download maps for the city of birmingham Uk which is where i live, because the software cant find simple adresses in the area, i am being charged by orange for this too!!!
I phoned Orange and they tell me that i will always be charged for using satnav as it connects to the internet via their web network. They told me that a third party were charging me for downloading the maps and not them. This, i have subsequently found to be complete BS
    My question is
Has anyone found a way to use the satnav on the N95 without being charged for every second they use it or can anyone sugest another satnav system that can be used on the Nokia N95 that does not require regular downloads to simply use the maps that are supposed to be already included in the **bleep** software ????
Also can someone explain to me what WiFi is and what voip is ?
    Cheers

you need this for the free maps http://www.smart2go.com/en/download
also the easy way to explain voip is to say.. connect anywhee in the world via wi-fi and call a mate (who also has voip) and it won't cost you a single penny. visit truphone for more info on voip, but unfortunatly for you, orange have screwed the handest so you'll have to install 3rd party apps to get the (unseamless) voip to work on your phone. see this thread. /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=42579#M42579Message Edited by rich_enduro on 08-Jun-200712:16 AM

  • Nokia N95 8GB data counter accuracy + T-Mobile (UK...

    Hi.
I have the 10GB per month web 'n' walk max package.
I use the Nokia N95 8GB as a modem for my computer as I do not have a land line.
I reset the Nokia's data counter (uploaded and downloaded totals) on the 1st of each month.
Since T-Mobile changed the service about 3 months ago I receive text warnings when I reach 80% of the fair use policy (i.e. 8GB) and a text if I hit 100% (i.e. 10GB). If I hit 10GB I am told that I will still be able to surf but not download at peak times.
There seems to be a big difference between what T-Mobile claim I have used and what the phone's counter shows. This month, for example, I have received the 80% warning but my phone only shows a total (up & down) of 6.3GB, 1.7GB difference.... quite large I feel! Last month I received a text telling me i had hit 100% but my phone only counted 8GB total.
When I contacted tech support they checked the system and came up with different figures. The 1st system which I believe is the same one customers can access by logging into t-mobile.co.uk and downloading the unbilled data usage figures gave about 8.7GB total. This system until very recently used to crash if you attempted to download the internet usage and had used a few gigs of data... useful. The support person then checked a second system which gave a total of 9GB. However these two different systems are not the ones that generate the warnings and also the cut-off (or rather reduced surfing restriction) texts. So T-Mobile have at least 3 systems.
So I have some obvious issues. T-Mobile have now stated that the data counter in the phone will not be that accurate and will miss some data, implying it is to do with counting compressed data rather than uncompressed. I disagree. The phone counter will surely count all 1s and 0s coming through it regardless of what they are. At this point I made the analogy to my electricity supply... the meter is in my house, that is the device by which I and my provider go by. They do not have a meter at the power station end. They bill me for what comes into my house at my front door and not what is sent out. That is the most accurate method for the customer.
I wonder what Nokia would say if T-Mobile inform customers that their hardware can not add up?
I believe there is a trading standards issue looming here as I do not believe I am getting what I pay for. At best appears to be 90% use. Whilst it is true they do not cut me off entirely if I exceed the 10GB, they are not letting me even reach that point. I seems similar to the current issues surrounding quoted broadband maximum speeds and actual obtainable speeds.
So has anyone had similar problems and disagreements about the fair use policy? Does anyone have any information / ideas about the Nokia data counter accuracy?
I am on the verge of contacting trading standards and any other suitable body about this.
    Many thanks.

    Thanks for replying.
If you are right, and as you say "I'm guessing", your butcher's analogy seems a good one. I know that the full data packet is not just the actual data but has the header attached (which I think can be up to 60 bytes?) but assumed that only the size of the contents would be counted not the wrapping. I wonder if this is what is actually going on. It would seem extremely unfair if it is especially as it can make a good gigaybte or more difference.
T-Mobile do not provide a reliable method to keep an eye on what is being used so what chance do I have? I still come back to my electricity supply analogy which I would say is similar to yours. My electricity supplier doesn't charge me for any electrical losses that occur between my front door and the power station (well not obviously anyway).
T-Mobile don't provide any software if you use the phone as a modem (unlike their web 'n' walk software if you use their USB dongle) and suggest you find software on the net to monitor your usage. However all the software I have tried seems to have limitations as to what type of data it can and can't monitor so is less than accurate and all have crashed at times and lost the running totals. The only accurate tool in my hands seems to be the phone itself.
Surely the customers shouldn't have to worry about transmission specifics, without those the net wouldn't work at all so how can they be charged for? Customers I guess would only want to pay for the actual data they are using. If I download a 1MB file I only want to pay for 1MB. Will the TV license people start charging extra for digital TV as the data is sent in packets?
    Hmmph!
    Thanks.
