Would welcome suggestions for "best" substitute for .Mac w/ iWeb

I currently use my .Mac and iDisk for publishing from iWeb, a link from my web site to all of my photo galleries, and a few files stored on iDisk.  Total amount of space is less than 10 GB.  The only service I have ever used for these functions is .Mac, and I am looking for the best/easiest substitute once .Mac dies.  Ideally I would like something that just works like what I have.  BTW, I publish photos from Aperture.  When I see postings about FTP, Fetch, etc., my aging brain gets even fuzzier.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Actually, no you don't, but what you do use is MobileMe.
You will need to get learning about the concept of ftp fast, because the only other alternatives to publishing sites to a server is by using ftp - either built into the package you are using or by downloading a programme for free called Cyberduck.
Alternative hosts to look at are http://www.hostexcellence.com or http://www.godaddy.com, but there are many others to choose from and they will be cheaper and give you more for your money than MobileMe did.
As far as iWeb is concerned, it is an app and will still work, so you can continue to use it, but if you want alternatives, take a look at RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Free Pro/Express, BlueGriffon etc.  You can download tests of these.  You can also consider the online web creation packages such as http://www.wordpress.com and then when you have a server, consider the content management systems such as Drupal, Joomla and http://www.wordpress.org which is server based.  There are other online creation packages such as http://www.weebly.com.

  • Suggest the Best Practice for Procurement of Commodities like crude, copper

    Dear Gurus,
Please suggest the best practice for following business Process.
My client is having the procurement need for a comodity whose prices are fluctuating. Say Crude Oil . The prices are changing every day. Now The client would like to pay to vendor on day of good receipt. But it may be possible that the price on GR day is much higher. How to control these kind of procurement. Presently I have activated the price variance through invoice posting but this is not working.
Can you suggest best practice for  procurement of comodities.
Thank you for your consistant support.

    Hi Vinod,
Would you know the price by the time the GR is to happen, in this case you can ask the vendor to send the confirmations, just prior to that with the correct price.
    Please refer this link

  • I have been searching for best app for converting handwriting to text. Write pad seems great does the app allow direct entry into a template?

I have been searching for best app for converting handwriting to text on my ipad. Writepad  by Phat seems great does the app allow direct entry into a template?

Writepad only works within the app itself - it does not allow you to write in another program. While it does allow you to save a document as a text or pdf file, it won't (I believe) let you open a file created outside of Writepad and work on it (except maybe text files - would have to investigate and see).

  • Export settings for best quality for pages with letters etc.

Hi, I am trying to make video of a musical piece, featuring the score of the piece with pages turning following the progression of the music. I made the video in Adobe After Effects CS5 and exported it so it would be lossless. The video itself is a .mov file and looks great when I view it in Quicktime, but when I import it into FCE the quality goes down a bit. I don't know if FCE is handling the clips correctly or if it's just for making it quicker to view. Any suggestions on export settings from FCE for best quality of a video of this nature, so that the notes are clearly readable.
    Thanks in advance
Ps. It has to be in a format suitable for Youtube.

Under "Sequence" and in "Settings" and in the tab "Render Control" I have: Frame Rate: 100% Resolution: 100%.
If that is what you were referring to... but under the tab which is called RT and is located left of the timeline and left of the timecode. There I have checked : Safe RT, (Playback Video Quality) Dynamic, (Playback Frame Rate) High.
There might be a way to import the clip in better quality (so it doesn't downgrade the quality).
Was mostly trying to find out with the export but it might have something to do with this.
    Thanks

  • (Request for:) Best practices for setting up a new Windows Server 2012 r2 Hyper-V Virtualized AD DC

Could you please share your best practices for setting up a new Windows Server 2012 r2 Hyper-V Virtualized AD DC, that will be running on a new WinSrv 2012 r2 host server.   (This
will be for a brand new network setup, new forest, domain, etc.)
    Specifically, your best practices regarding:
the sizing of non virtual and virtual volumes/partitions/drives,
the use of sysvol, logs, & data volumes/drives on hosts & guests,
RAID levels for the host and the guest(s),
IDE vs SCSI and drivers both non virtual and virtual and the booting there of,
disk caching settings on both host and guests.
Thanks so much for any information you can share.

A bit of non essential additional info:
We are small to midrange school district who, after close to 20 years on Novell networks, have decided to design and create a new Microsoft network and migrate all of our data and services
over to the new infrastructure .   We are planning on rolling out 2012 r2 servers with as much Hyper-v virtualization as possible.
During the last few weeks we have been able to find most of the information we need to undergo this project, and most of the information was pretty solid with little ambiguity, except for
information regarding virtualizing the DCs, which as been a bit inconsistent.
Yes, we have read all the documents that most of these posts tend point to, but found some, if not most are still are referring to performing this under Srvr 2008 r2, and haven’t really
seen all that much on Srvr2012 r2.
We have read these and others:
Introduction to Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) Virtualization (Level 100),
Virtualized Domain Controller Technical Reference (Level 300),
Virtualized Domain Controller Cloning Test Guidance for Application Vendors,
Support for using Hyper-V Replica for virtualized domain controllers.
Again, thanks for any information, best practices, cookie cutter or otherwise that you can share.
    Chas.

    Yugandhar,
Try exploring the UWL in MSS. It does have the functionality of assigning substitutes etc.. <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/57/c223be82104792a15c2df11377b9ed/frameset.htm">SAP Help</a>  For ERP2005.

  • What video converter app for mac would you suggest to convert videos for ipad mini?

Just recently got myself ipad mini and want to fill it up with movies. i have some but they have wrong format. And i don't know which format is the best for ipad mini(

iPad Mini supports .m4v, .mov, .mp4, and some of .avi files with Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) codec.
Generally, you can choose to convert files to MP4 format using utilities like Handbrake, Format Factory, etc. They are all free.
I have get a PS3 and iPad 2 years ago, sometimes I need to convert files to AVI for my PS3, so I choose a professional converter called AppGeeker. (while handbrake only output mkv and mp4 format, and FF reduces amount of quality of video)
    it works marvelosly for me.

  • Need suggestion for Best Laptop for Premier Editing on the Go

    Hello,
I am a longtime user of Premier and Aftereffects and planning to buy Premier CS4 in the next few weeks.
Considering I travel a lot I need a good laptop to edit my shoot while traveling. I would like to hear from this forum the recommended laptops for editing. I am budgeting around US $2,000/-.
Secondly should I request the laptop vendor for Windows XP instead of Windows Vista considering XP seems to have better speed than Vista. If CS4 is completely 64 bit then I may end up with Vista.
One review suggested Gateway P-7811FX is a good laptop for Photoshop / Premier CS4 since it is a gaming laptop and understand it weighs 9.1 lbs.
Thanks for reading this posting and all the suggestions - pointers in advance.

Holy crap...do NOT get a Gateway anything.
Gaming technologies and build concepts sometimes are useful in video production builds, but not always. Stuff like graphics rendering often doesn't affect video.
HP has a 17" laptop line in the dv7 that is pretty nicely configured. Dual 7200 RPM drives available, as well as on board eSATA built in (for additional storage, or for connecting to an external RAID array).
Vista 64 is preferable, since the OS can utilize more RAM. Even if the suite itself is only 64bit compatible (as opposed to completely 64bit "aware") you still benefit from the OS being able to delegate an entire set of RAM to each application without sharing from a small pool of only 4 GB. I believe you can configure that dv7 laptop with up to 8 GB of RAM (or at least it's capable of up to 8 GB, but maybe you have to purchase your own upgrades separately).
Vista 32 runs PPro and AE very fast on my laptop, faster than XP Pro ever worked for me. Vista is a little bit smarter about handling physical RAM and processor resources (Vista SP1 made the OS very usable, and 3rd party support is a non issue if you are purchasing new components or a new machine, as you seem to be doing...hiccups come with trying to get 5 or 10 year old hardware and software to work on a new OS like Vista). Don't believe too much of the hype until you've given it a shot.
Oh, about 64 bit support...Photoshop CS4 is 64-bit native (Windows Vista 64 only, not Mac OSX). After Effects and Premiere Pro can open multiple instances of the application for rendering and such to take advantage of RAM availability. After Effects and Premiere Pro do approach this slightly differently from one another, but the end result is still that you have a 32 bit application that is trying to act like a 64 bit one, and from what I've seen so far, that makes a difference over 32 bit OS.

  • It seems like each time I get a Firefox update (the latest being 5.0), it disables the virus protection software. I'm currently using McAfee SiteAdvisor and Rapport, which program would you suggest using with Firefox for virus protection?

I'm using a Mac OSX platform for my computer system. Is there any reason why McAfee SiteAdvisor and Rapport virus protection software programs are not compatible with Firefox updates? What virus protection software is Mozilla suggesting to use with Firefox?

  • Hi please need suggestion for best design for jdbc-rfc-file

    Hi Gurus,
actually our scenario is jdbc->XI( <-RFC->)->File
Here our payload is around 5000 records
can it be advisable to use rfc synchronous communication.
The scenario will be exected only in night times.so can we schedule the adapter as we are using sp9.
If not what must be the good design approach.
And also after scheduling to a perticular period ,if there is any down time of XI server, will the process start immediately after the sever up or it will again watch for that perticular time.

    Hi,
    >>>can it be advisable to use rfc synchronous communication.
    - No, if there is no business requirement for realtime response.
    >>>can we schedule the adapter as we are using sp9
    - Not necessary.
    >>>Here our payload is around 5000 records
    - Is it requirement to send all 5000 records at once?? if not then distribute load whole day if possible.
If you provide more information then maybe we can assist you.

  • Advice for best workflow for catalogue production

We do several catalogues annually for some customers that are in the 80-120 page range. Each catalogue has between 1000 to 2000 products listed. The layout is based in sections and we use Indesign tables for the part number/description/key technical details/price/ The tables are not the same from product to product but vary depending on the type. So, for example, the number of columns and rows varies, the relative location of the price column changes (but is usually always the last right hand side one) and so on.
What we normally do is take an excel spreadsheet from the customer which is set up with multiple tables that follow the catalogue format, so we copy and paste the content from Excel to the appropriate Indesign table. The customer uses a LookUp function in Excel to maintain the price list monthly, and we do annual updates. The LookUp function searches another Excel file that has a data source from the accounts system, and so keeps the price and key data up to date (depending on the function).
What I would like to know, is there a better, more efficient way of doing this?
Is there a way for Indesign to lookup tabular data from Excel? In this way, what I am thinking, is that when the customer updates the price list spreadsheet from the accounts system (which is a 2 second task), we can then open the catalogue document (book actually) and automatically have Indesign update all the tables from the Excel document, then save the document to pdf.
Is there a plug in that does this? Or is there a technique in Indesign we are not using?
I've seen other people posting similar requests over the years so I know we are not alone in working this way.
Or are we actually better off sticking to the copy and paste table content replacement technique?
Any thoughts gratefully received. We're using Indesign CS4 on Mac.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Thanks for the quick feedback.
I did try linking Excel to Indesign CS2 a couple of years ago on this job but found it a bit unreliable, maybe I'll try again in CS4.
I've not used table styles on this job - I'll need to take another look at that.
When we did the first iteration of this catalogue series using CS2 it was our first big job after switching from Quark Xpress so there were things I am sure we did wrong with regards to table set up. After completing that job I created a new Excel spreadsheet for the customer with all the tabular data from the catalogues in exactly the same format so we could copy and paste future corrections (at the time we used a table script that worked with CS2 for this). So in theory we may be able to link the two again (but I know the spreadsheet will need tweaking first!).
The problem I've had using table styles on this job was the number of variations in table layout in the documents. Having said that I need to look at the options on this again.
The whole catalogue is set up using a book with linked sections, unified styles and cascading master pages so making changes globally is relatively easy and consistent. Currently the tabular information is text styles (Character styles I think - need to check!).
I have no problem investing in a catalogue plug in provided it does help the workflow (as we do a few other similar jobs from time to time), but I'll need to take some time to try this out in detail. From the workflow I describe which product do you think would be more suitable?
Thanks again for the feedback. I'll take  a look at what we can do and report back here as I'm sure others will be interested.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Looking for best plugins for Baritone Saxophone

    Hi all!
I am doing some experimenting, and I had a real baritone saxophone recorded with a good microphone (8 to 12 inches from the sax). Now I cant find the right EQ-Reverb-etc. plugins that would make it right and natural. I can do that with other sax, or other brass, but the baritone seems tricky. I added some distortion and it helped. What is missing? when I get the highs right, the bottom is not enough... "bottom". And vice-versa. Is there any suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

honestly there are so many factors that go into applying the right effect that you aren't likely to find an answer here...
Primarily, without hearing what the audio you recorded actually sounded like.
It's a bit like saying you are feeling sick, but all the over the counter medications aren't working like they do for all the other times you are sick. You need someone to have someone listen to your track and make a recommendation based on that.

  • Looking for best practices for web delivery of Captivate tutorials

I have a set of ~50 Adobe Captivate projects that are a mix of UI tour, business process overviews, and how-tos for configuring those processes. These "tutorials" as we call them, vary in length, ~1-3 minutes for the UI tours and overviews, and 4-10 minutes for the how-tos. We use narration, which we recorded in Audacity on Windows and imported as MP3s into Captivate. We are not using menus or interactivity, and are not integrated with an LMS.
The goal is to deliver these tutorials in-context in the UI of our web-based enterprise application. Our customers typically have several thousand users and when they kick of a new cycle of a business process, have hundreds of simultaneous users logged in, many of whom may view our tutorials when they first log in. This means optimal network performance is critical.
We initially output the Captivate projects to SWF format and used the standard HTML page as a means for a simple, progressive download. Users said it took too long to download before the tutorials could start playing. We tried converting the SWFs to FLV and delivered them via a streaming server. Even after optimizing the data rate and codec's compression settings, users reported that the volume of data being streamed to simultaneous users is too great and is adversely affecting their networks. As an example of the file sizes I'm talking, we have a five about are 6 MB for a SWF and 8.7 MB for an FLV.
Can anyone suggest strategies for optimizing delivery of the SWF files, the FLVs, or another format all together? I would like to stay with Captivate because of our investment in training and the fact it is included with our licenses for the Technical Communications 2 Suite. We are using Captivate 4.0.1 build 1658 on Windows XP, and Sorenson Squeeze 6 for compressing the FLVs with the On2 VP6 codec.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alan

The tutorial I mention in my example below is five minutes in length.
