Would you recommend Aperture 3 if Lion installed?
I have a Canon DSLR. I have already migrated my new Macbook Pro to Lion. I have read several posts that describe issues with Aperture's Lion compatibility. Would the group recommend using Aperture or waiting for an update/new version from Apple?

You'll probably need 8GBs of RAM, and then you should be OK. Just take it steadily. Are you using iPhoto now?

You will continue to hear different opinions here, where thoughts range everywhere between "anti-virus software is the evil spawn of Satan" to "anyone not running anti-virus software is a fool."
Truth is, this is still a very personal decision on a Mac. Depending on circumstances, it is still very easily possible to stay safe without using anti-virus software, but circumstances and personal preferences vary widely. Besides which, anti-virus software cannot even remotely provide you a guarantee of protection!

Would you recommend I install adobe flash on my mini?
I would like to have adobe flash player on my mini but don't want the hassle of getting a million virus' that I had on my PC's...would you recommend it? Just realized that one of the websites that has employment videos uses adobe exclusively. Just want to know the pro's and con's...

late are malware sites that put up an Adobe Flash update window
hoping people will click on it and install some nasty software. Most
of these exploits were Java based. But there can still be others
that tell you you need to click the update and then download the "installer".
Then people unwittingly run that installer, again infecting the machine.
In general with Macs, if some site says you need to download
something you didn't ask for, don't do it. If it says you need an
update, go to the vendor site for that app/plugin to see if you really
do. -

Web page video - what file type would you recommend?
I've stood up a web page for selling things (house, musical instrument, chipper-shredder, rent an apartment, etc.) and would like to have a few videos included. The plan is to save the video on the server and not use hyperlinks to places like vimeo and youtube. For one thing, vimeo doesn't allow a basic member to use their site for selling things.
A. Screen view size: I would like something, say, 2.5 to 3 inches high X whatever width the proportion would be (4:5 or 16:9), minimum.
B. Resolution: Most of what I've recorded is in 1440CBR but reducing the quality to keep the file size small is VERY important. I'm not looking for Full Hi-Def, just something that gets the message across.
C. It is very desirable for the visitor to be able to start viewing the video as soon after clicking on the hyperlink as possible. If they have to wait for a few MegaBytes to be downloaded they probably won't stick around. Also, there will be no advertising on my web page which should be nice.
D. The file format should be viewable by both Macs and PCs. Questions:
1. Is *.mp4 H.264 the most universal format?
2. Should I "Share" to a QuickTime format and assume the PC users will have QuickTime on their machine?
3. FCPx uses the "Share" menu in order to Export. What would you recommend for a Share setting (file type) so it will do what I would like to do?
Is there anything I left out that would be good to know???

Would you recommend ClenMyMac 2 for cleaning up my hard drive on my old Mac Book Pro?
My Mac Book Pro is running very slow and I noticed I don't have much memory left.
Next step is to put some more RAM in.

Would you recommend Parrells or boot camp for using Windows on and MacBook Pro.
Depends upon your needs.
Virtual machine software w/Windows. Runs Windows in a window on OS X.
Pros:
A: More convenient, easier to revert to earlier "snapshots" of the entire OS state, as many as you need.
B: Switch back and forth between Windows and OS X quickly.
C: Great for low demand programs most people use.
D: More stable and less hassle, vm software takes all the work out.
E: Malware/pr0n attack, just flush the whole OS and revert to a earlier version.
F: Doesn't require space hogging drive partitioning
G: Run other versions of Windows, even Linux, all at the same time as long as you have the memory.
Cons:
A: A performance hit especially if your hardware is weak or you have a demanding program(s).
B: 3D games run about 1/5th the performance of native boot.
Bootcamped Windows
Pros:
A: full hardware access and performance
Cons:
A: A hassle to set up, even though Apple assists a lot, Windows doesn't help.
B: Drivers for the hardware come from Apple.
C: Having to reboot to use it.
D: Malware attack, your dumping Windows and reinstalling.
E: Must dedicate a set space for Windows to use on the drive (aka partition)
F: Must hold option key to boot into either OS. Only one can be set as the default boot OS.
G: Can only run Windows 7 64 bit, although tweaks perhaps can run others.
Both:
Some VM software will take the previous Bootcamp install and make a virtual machine out of it to run in OS X.
So for day to day use of Windows for low key programs you use the vm, and for 3D games and other heavy performance you direct boot.
If you keep the Bootcamp Windows off the Internet and accessing shared files, emails etc from other Windows, don't install crap in there and keep it virgin as possible, it will be fine and malware free.
Leave all the risk behavior on the vm Windows, that way you can flush it quickly.
Microsoft validation works fine in either as it's all the same hardware.

Would you recommend IOS or VXWorks for AP1200?

I am in the process of updating my AP1200 from ver. 12.01T1. I will be using LEAP and vlans. Would you recommend I stick with VXWorks or should I move to the latests version of IOS?

All my Vxwork AP's work fine. I loaded the latests IOS that is supposed to fix this problem, however it doesn't seem to do it for me. I am using IAS as the radius server.
I can see the Private-group-ID being sent to the AP, but it never moves the laptop to the correct VLAN. I am not sure if it is related to having to set the policy in IAS to "Virtual" instead of "Wireless" because of the different way the IOS version sends the NAS-Port-Type.
So I am stuck with an IOS version AP that doesn't work like my Vxworks AP's....Luckily it is a spare and not one I had installed anywhere...
It could be I have something configured wrong, but I have configured many Vxworks AP's...without any problems...

I recently loaded OSX mavericks on my Imac. I now find I cannot open any Adobe products from CS5. The error message reads " to open Adobe illustrator CS5.app, you need to install a JAva SE 6 runtime. Would you like to check and install one? I try to install but get the error" download error". As far as i know I'm using Adobe Java 7. None of my CS5 suite works anymore............and i really dont want to upgrade to a monthly cloud service fee as i hate this policy with a passion.

I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks! -
I just bought an Imac. I have an ipad2 and an iphone 4s. My wife has an iphone 4s. Both of us have different apple ids. Would you recommend a new one or use an existing id? Why?
It is best to stop making all new apple IDs, as software is permanently tied to them, and you can't converge them. Make differnt ones if you plan to get divorced though....

Hello everybody! My question is; my parents and I have a great number of video tapes (Hi8 and mini DV) and since I purchased a MacBook Pro (ME665LL/A) I would like to burn them onto CDs, but I do not know how to transfer those footage into Mac. What would you recommend(it can be a software, a hardware or combination of both)? By the way, I also purchased an external DVD-RW(Asus SDRW-08D2S) separately.
Just Google "convert hi8 to dvd" and you'll find a number of software/hardware combinations that will allow you to do what you want. One important piece of the puzzle is whether or not you still have access to the video recorder(s) that the movies were shot on.

Which of these solutions would you recommend?
while trying to create a login system using JSP, I ran into several tutorials, and tried creating one by using java beans to keep track of the session.
The bean stores the username by using setUserID(String userID), and also sets a certain variable to true if the user is logged in.
To create different levels or types of users, and add more functionality to this login system, I believe I could add more properties to determine the level and other necessary information (with information taken from a database), and simply use a beanid.getProperty() to check for the information I need for example.
I know that another way and the more common way to create a login system while securing other pages on the website, is to use session tracking and the session variable to set different values, etc... and keep track of the user.
Now my question is, which one of these 2 solutions would you recommend? Which one do you believe to be more secure?
Thanks.Arent both essentially the same? In the first, you set all properties in a single bean object and bind that object to the session. In the second, you bind each property individually to the session. So there is nothing to choose 'security' wise between the two options. Security, I believe, has nothing to do with how you track the user's session. Usage of SSL for example is a security technique.
Having said that, if we confine your question to which is a better option for session management per se, I would favour the first (a single bean). I am not a great fan of a bloated session object though. You can always query necessary info from the db using this id rather than storing it in the session.
Note you neednt set a variable to indicate that the user has logged in. The presence of the UserBean is sufficient to indicate the logged in status (assuming that you create such a bean only on successful login).

I got an iPad for Christmas (my first Apple product), and I'm trying to decide whether to buy the AppleCare plan for it.
Does anyone have any experience with using the AppleCare plan, or getting support for a broken iPad without the plan? Would you recommend getting it?In the past, with computers that could be opened and fixed by replacing parts, a service plan was not particularly advantageous for those who could swap out a dead HD and put in a new one. When laptops arrived, many thought that since it was a "closed system", it would be best to get a contract. I'd say with the iPad, it's really a closed system for most of us, and buying a plan may be as prudent as for laptops - but then there's the price to consider, given the price of the iPad. I think you can buy a plan anytime before the original warranty expires, so you could hold off.
