If when you are capturing footage, audio only - the video screen was blank or had a message - Capturing audio only.
or
If you are only Capturing only video - you could not hear the audio..... (no reason to hear it if it isn't loading)
How many times has someone come on your system - changed your settings without you knowing - you've gone to capture footage and WAMO - no audio or no video.

Yeah, but the whole caputre window paradigm blows in FCP compared to Ye Olde Media 100. The logging and capture mode was supremely informative. Gave you the entire capture queue, highlighted the current item, told you what the capture settings were and kept a running count of what had been captured and how many items and total length was left.

I think it would be nice if the Newsstand app could be moved into a grouping. I do not use this app and it's just in the way.

It'd be great to be able to view and edit track automation data in the piano roll, where the hyper draw area is.
1. you'd be able to see your automation and notes at the same time, and edit both quickly, without having to switch windows. Seeing as plugin instruments are becoming the norm, this seems like an extremely valuable feature.
2. that area (the hyper draw area) can be resized vertically, much more than in the arrange, giving finer resolution.
Also, it would be nice to be able to view the hyper EDITOR in the piano roll.
1. You can view multiple MIDI automations at once, and still be able to edit notes and CC data in the same window
2. you can rename things in the hyper editor, (ie, change "modulation" to "filter cutoff"... so you dont have to remember "what does this CC # control again?"
Anyone else think these would be great features?

Have you tried the Arrange view of Automation data? It might be not as flexible as you would wish but I like it a lot. Open Automation edit list of any track that contains Automation, close the current Arrange and open a new Arrange page with the Automation edit list still open. You will now see Regions that contain Automation data and can edit that in the Hyper editor

I've been 'exposed' to Forte since September only but have to 'cry' about not being able to use the right mouse button for obvious things like:
RC (RightClick) on a component in Econsole and have the component menu open for it and so on.
Another problem is with the log files - hard to find the log file that has the info (error) I am looking for (I can use the GUI yes).
e.g.:
Component replicated 10 times. Have to find an error message in one of the 10 associated log files. It just takes too long. Would like to be able to say use the router log file to easily search all relevant (10) logs for what I'm looking for.
Or RC on Installed Partition in question and if it's replicated 10 times have option to search ALL ten log files for string.
BTW, I'm using OpenVMS for my server end and mostly NT PCs as clients.

I have been asked to think about how we maintain our BR & MD docs for EBS Production instances. I have been looking for code and document control for this. I am playing with the Document Library to see if that would do the business. I wondered if anyone else had considerer APEX and/or how they look after system documentation and code in Production Support phase of the software lifecycle.

I posted the same request in the Lounge a couple of months ago. I didn't post here because of fear that it would be ruled "off topic". I hoped that the response would be so great that the result could not be ignored. There were a few replies supporting lifting the bans. There were also replies such as "Why" "Who cares" and "They don't want to come back". That along with more complaints about Jive software which had nothing to do with the topic of the bans. The topic soon went to page two, then was gone.
While there were a couple (at most) of people that may have deserved to be banned, the vast majority did not. I will never understand how Adobe could allow such a thing to happen to the most helpful people. My protest consists of simply not purchasing every Photoshop upgrade as I previously did.
I support lifting the bans and will always believe that Adobe could correct this if they cared at all about their customers. It would be the right thing to do and would go a long way to restoring the respect that I once had for Adobe.

Ok, first i agree with what you are saying (all), i'm just not happy about it. Here's an example.
I've got a class that provides an LDap DirContext, through a "get" type method. Sometimes I'd like this class to maintain a persistent connection to the ldap server (through this DirContext) other times I wan't the connection to be recreated each time. Either way, the user uses the same interface to get this objects so:
interface LDAPProvider
DirContext getDirectoryContext();
When it's in persistent mode, it just returns a member variable, when not it creates a new one.
Well, I certainly don't want the user calling close on this returned object, as it may be that i'm maintaining a persistent connection. I also do want them to call close in the case that it is not a persistent connection.
So, i do
interface MyLDAPProvider
DirContext getDirectoryContext();
void releaseDirectoryContext( DirContext ctx );
and hope the user calls my method and not close... Which is just plain ugly and dangerous.
Alternately i create a DirContext implementing object (luckily i can cause this is an interface, what to do if this is a class that's final) and use aggregation, and implement all the DirContext methods, yuck, just to get the one close behavior. Also oogley

iTunes would sync TASK LISTS on iPods? I mean it already syncs Contacts and Calendars from Microsoft Outlook, why not just go the whole way? Especially since my iPod mini has a section for "To Do". It sits empty though because iTunes does not sync task lists (not that I can find anyways).

How about the sticky notes as well. Might as well go for the gusto if we are asking. LOL

I can't be the first person to have thought about this but...would n't it be nice if instead of having to naviagte with your mouse to go back a page in Safari, wouldn't it make sense to just have a keyboard stroke to do that?

Dynamic inheritance: wouldn't it be useful sometimes?

Hey, you ever have this problem?
You are holding a reference to an object of some class that was given to you by an external source. However you'd like to override one of the methods to do something else, and then perhaps call the original method. Wouldn't it be nice if you could somehow dynamically inherit from an already existing object.
An example might be, you get a ldap DirContext object from somewhere, It's possible under some circumstance you don't want to close it. What you'd like to do is override close, and possibly call the original objects close depending on some setting.
I realize the answer is 'use aggregation', not inheritance, but that can be a royal pain if the base object has alot of methods.
Hmm, maybe that's what java.lang.reflect.proxy is all about....

I agree, that would be great to sync iTunes content without docking. Technically, it is already available via Cydia after you JB your device. I'm not recommending you JB just for this feature, as it is buggy. If you want to, go for it.
But I agree with the first reply and you should suggest this to Apple.

Privacy would be nice

Everyone wants to play with my iphone, but now that I'm accumulating some information/history in the notebook, safari and mail, I'm less enthusiastic about just handing it over to anyone who asks. I'm sure I'm not alone in this regard.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could choose to lock specific widgets, like your notebook, or mail. Something similar to a parental controls feature.

There should (i.e. MUST, really) be a way to lock down contacts and email. Perhaps an option to password protect various parts of the iPhone without locking down the whole thing. So, for example, you need to enter in a password to access email, or a password to access contacts, but don't have to enter a master password just to use thing for anything at all (as it is now). Otherwise, private information could inadvertantly get into the hands of someone who happens to walk off with (or steal) your phone.

Ink....Suggestion and a new PRINTER suggestion

We should have other kinds of ink that we can install - for example, for those of us that do Scrapbooking wouldn't it be nice to have NEON ink kits, or Glitter Ink kits, also, if we are a cake decorator, why can we only have two kinds of printers? Why can't their be Edible Ink for all of the printer machines available on the market???
I really think that HP needs to make a Printer that can do a lot more than what just some of them do, for example, people usually work out of their homes these days, and Graphic Arts, usually need to have the standard CMYK format in their ink, so having that would be great, also just because we are in graphic arts, doesn't mean we don't like to have fun, we should have two paper trays, one that can hold 12x12 regular cardstock paper to print on, and then another tray that can still do 81/2 x11 paper and still a 4x6 photo tray as well.
We should be able to have a Scanner on top, (thats even better than 48bit) but can also be used to print negatives (with a negative slide holder) and also included a autodocument feeder, on top.
The Guts of the machine, we should be able to print, scan, copy, FAX(color and Black and White) be able to connect our camera's and included a Card Reader for all of the standard cards available. (Duplex for those who want to make double sided cards) We should be able to use different types of inks, for different things, like I mentioned above, edible ink, for cake, glitter inks, neon inks, etc... just to be able to have fun with the printer while we are scrapbooking. it should still have the LCD screen where we can crop, zoom, print out index sheet, be able to print out wide screen printer pictures for example panorama feature, and be able to print labels onto our CDs afer we put pictures onto a CD or DVD disk, be able to use things like printing on Tracing Paper, Transparency paper, Vellum Paper, being able to print on to thin metal copper sheets or alumium sheets, be able print on new things to come, giving us the ability to print on whatever type of paper or item we want to print on. Last the printer shouldn't be any bigger than a Photosmart 3210, print was, and also be able to be upgradeable, (upgradeable in firmware for the printer itself, allowing the printer to do more things than it did when we purchased it, And it shouldn't be anymore than $500.00 total. These days we want to be able to do anything with out printers, and use all kinds of paper and items to print onto.. (the Cartridges you could make not just ink ones, but you could make one that embosses when it prints, and when we want to do that we change the printer ink cartridge to the embossing cartridge, Basically we want flexability with our printers. We also want them to hold up, and not fail or jam, or stop feeding with printer heads.

HP has all kinds of different printer software for all kinds of different printers, but most of them do much the same thing.
In fact, the panorama feature seems to have been removed from the Photosmart software.....Premier isnt even available for Vista, I dont think?
But, HP does offer many web pages to do some of the things your talking about here...Programs that run from hp.com.
Edible ink? Nah, I'll pass on that one, but some of your other ideas rock!

Having trouble installing Photoshop CC in Windows 8.1

After 42% it stops and gives me this errors:

I am bothering to post just to report - in case useful to others - that I was able to get round the same problem as the original poster, like jsm02, by booting into "safe mode with networking". Rebooting the machine and using the f8 key during the boot sequence, to select the alternate startup "safe mode with networking", seemed more straightforward than the instructions at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/restart-windows-modified-mode-windows.html, which looks like it would involve a certain amount of guessing which services should be disabled / enabled.
The complaints about Microsoft redistributables I got in the install-fail-report were as pasted in below, in case helpful to others seeing same. The report advised double-clicking various packages to retry those parts of the install - or downloading the latest same from Microsoft. I would suggest checking Control Panel -> Programs and Features first, as you may simply find that you already have these C++ redistributables installed (as they were in my case).
And wouldn't it be nice if the Adobe Installer could fail more gracefully - or indeed not even fail at all! - if it finds required components are already installed. For Adobe customers on slow broadband lines, being forced into a second download that takes circa 3 hours (for just one of the CC apps), because of an installer that can't handle items already being installed, is not a great experience - would hope Adobe can iron this out of the installation process.
Hope that this further detail is useful to others facing same problem.
