G'Day Folks!
I've been 'exposed' to Forte since September only but have to 'cry' about not being able to use the right mouse button for obvious things like:
RC (RightClick) on a component in Econsole and have the component menu open for it and so on.
Another problem is with the log files - hard to find the log file that has the info (error) I am looking for (I can use the GUI yes).
e.g.:
Component replicated 10 times. Have to find an error message in one of the 10 associated log files. It just takes too long. Would like to be able to say use the router log file to easily search all relevant (10) logs for what I'm looking for.
Or RC on Installed Partition in question and if it's replicated 10 times have option to search ALL ten log files for string.
BTW, I'm using OpenVMS for my server end and mostly NT PCs as clients.

Web for Forte - what is the right product?

We are using Web Enterprise on a new application and on another existing
Forte application.
Concerning our experiences on the new application:
1) Watch what version of Forte and WE you use. Earlier that 3.M.2 and WE
E.1, we experienced a page truncation bug (that Forte admitted was their
bug).
2) Upgrades between Forte versions have been difficult as each upgrade means
an upgrade to the WE pieces. The only way we have been successful in these
upgrades is by recreating the repository, creating the new HTTP/HTML
libraries/projects, and importing (in order) our projects. This is time
consuming. It would be nice if Forte did not force the WE upgrade when the
Forte version changes.
3) As of yet, we have not been able to get a load balanced Web Access SO to
work. The help desk has suggested using a higher port number range (from
1780 up to 6000) but we haven't tried this yet.
Concerning our experiences with the existing application conversion:
1) The GUI interface of a windows application and a browser application are
basically different. There are things that are easy in a std GUI that are
much more difficult with a browser. So, if using std HTML, typically the
application will behave somewhat differently.
2) We used JavaScript within our HTML to do some basic editing within the
browser. This was much easier than doing std HTML to Forte for every type
of edit. In fact, we even used Forte to dynamically generate JavaScript in
certain circumstances.
3) We did NOT use Java at all.
4) The Forte application we are converting is old (4+ yrs) and was not
designed in the ideal way. Much of the processing logic and sql is embedded
inside windows. My point is that if the architecture of the existing
application is 'good' (good separation of pure GUI functions from business
rules from db access), then moving to WE can be fairly easy. If every Forte
window operation calls some method rather than invoking inline code, then
that is a good step. If every window operation calls some external
(non-window) method, then that is even better. That makes the replacement
of the Forte GUI with a browser based GUI much easier.
5) We tested, very briefly, the Window Converter operations of WE. It did
seem to work but we really could not utilize this facility because of the
poor design of the Forte GUI. We would have been forced to re-write our
existing GUI to take advantage of this.
6) We are attempting to reuse what we can from the existing application but
we are also taking advantage of this rewrite to implement a cleaner
architecture within a newly developed framework.

Adobe makes three products that could work here: Photoshop Elements, Lightroom and Photoshop. Other companies also make programs that will do these tasks.
You make it sound like this is a one-time need. If that's true, I would think that the Adobe products are overkill. In fact, to edit the photos you might want to look at freeware products like RawTherapee, and there are plenty of freeware slideshow applications.

Sounds like a hardware issue.
Did you buy the system from Apple? If so how recent is recent? If it is new you have 14 days to return it, not sure what the situation is with refurb systems. If it is over 14 days you should still have warranty support make an appointment at an Apple Store or contact Apple support.
If you bought it from someone other then Apple you will need to contact them.

If when you are capturing footage, audio only - the video screen was blank or had a message - Capturing audio only.
or
If you are only Capturing only video - you could not hear the audio..... (no reason to hear it if it isn't loading)
How many times has someone come on your system - changed your settings without you knowing - you've gone to capture footage and WAMO - no audio or no video.

Yeah, but the whole caputre window paradigm blows in FCP compared to Ye Olde Media 100. The logging and capture mode was supremely informative. Gave you the entire capture queue, highlighted the current item, told you what the capture settings were and kept a running count of what had been captured and how many items and total length was left.

It'd be great to be able to view and edit track automation data in the piano roll, where the hyper draw area is.
1. you'd be able to see your automation and notes at the same time, and edit both quickly, without having to switch windows. Seeing as plugin instruments are becoming the norm, this seems like an extremely valuable feature.
2. that area (the hyper draw area) can be resized vertically, much more than in the arrange, giving finer resolution.
Also, it would be nice to be able to view the hyper EDITOR in the piano roll.
1. You can view multiple MIDI automations at once, and still be able to edit notes and CC data in the same window
2. you can rename things in the hyper editor, (ie, change "modulation" to "filter cutoff"... so you dont have to remember "what does this CC # control again?"
Anyone else think these would be great features?

Have you tried the Arrange view of Automation data? It might be not as flexible as you would wish but I like it a lot. Open Automation edit list of any track that contains Automation, close the current Arrange and open a new Arrange page with the Automation edit list still open. You will now see Regions that contain Automation data and can edit that in the Hyper editor

Hi,
It is a good idea. In fact, I think that how Forte is
going to integrate her own suite of app. too. ( I
kind of recall that there is a speech on this topic in
Forum ).
However, as Forte will most likely goes toward Java, I
would suggest that you take into account the
abstraction on Conductor ( which is frankly an event
broker ) and Fusion ( which handles the XML mapping )
too. In doing so, you can save guard your investment
on the design without binding tightly with FORTE and I
bet there will be tons of event broker or XML parser
in the future market.
On the other hand, this integration by Fusion would be
perfect for a perfect world. But, in this imperfect
world, it would be hard to do cross-checking between
apps in Fusion.
In the old days, we repulicate data or do file
transfer to integrate apps. In doing so, we also
build-in all the cross-checking procedure / reports.
In the case of Fusion, is there such a safety net to
save guard data integrity. Can I identify a lost
event and trace back to find out whether it is a app.
problem or Conductor problem?
I think the customer would surely like to know.

1) Interapplication communications would be handled
by a Conductor process
and thus be much more readily configurable than any
hard-coded link.
2) One would gain the ability to unplug one's own
application and plug in a
customer's application when the customer insisted on
using something else.
3) The discipline of working in this structure would
insure clean boundries
between applications, which is not only sound
design, but promotes the
flexibility of the overall suite.
4) Those with untransitioned legacy applications
would have a framework
that would allow a mixture of new and old
applications to co-exist, thus
providing them with a transition strategy until the
full product line was
converted.
Note that I am assuming that one would want to build
the individual
applications so that they also used Conductor for
managing their business
process logic, but that seems to me to be an
independent decision from this
one.
So, comments?

Note that the one downside I have found so far is
that Fusion licensing,
independent of the Conductor aspect, is based on the
number of proxies and

going to have 15 or more proxies. My bet is that
this can be handled once
it is clear that use of Fusion by a VAR for
integrating own applications is
not the same use as by an end-user integrating
arbitrary multiple applications.

I think you can use 'OperatingSystem' service agent & check 'AllocatedPages'
instrument to see how many memory pages are used. You can compare that with

Made changes in the Advanced Tab n want to revert back URGENT

I somehow was trying something n made changes in the advanced tab SQL Issued section & added a where clase to it... & clicked SET SQL..
later i removed the changes I made, but now the report doestn work as earlier.
there are no changes in Criteria tab, how do i set it back to normal? how to i reset it?

If you add a WHERE condition in SQL, then that column will apply in FILTER section of CRITERIA Tab.
Make sure that filter was gone off, after resetting the SQL..
I think you might be missing something in reverting the changes otherwise it wouldn't be a problem.

Good luck. It took me weeks to fix this when I had to do it. Your old ID branches out in lots of places. You may have to delete app and get them again, at least that is what Apple told me. Plus, all of your settings on your iPad that required any ID, will have to be changed. My old ID kept showing up in different places for weeks. Changing it on Apple.com is just the beginning.

I made some research online and asked a few of my friends with the same problem. All they did was sign out of iTunes from settings>iTunes & App Stores or from the App Store itself and signed back in. It worked for many of them but not with my iPhone 4s. It really does get on my nerves to always sign out and back in to the App Store as it sometimes works and allows me to update and download or most of the time it doesnt.
When viewing my Apple ID account on my iPhone (after entering the password) it either views my account or says:
"This Apple ID is only valid for purchases in the U.S. iTunes Store. You will be switched to that Store. Try your purchase again."
So I press on OK then either switches me to the App Store app of its choice, or says "Cannot connect to iTunes Store".
I tried restoring iOS6 hoping it was a bad installation, but i still have the same problem.

Are you sure your AppleID is NOT tied to the US store? If you are trying to buy an app from the Swedish store you will be unable to do that. Some apps are only available on certain stores. That is why you get the "Cannot connect to the iTunes store" message when trying to buy that app. Your updates are being done from the US store ; thats why you can update sometimes and sometimes not.
If you keep encountering problems contact iTunes support. They will help you sort it out.

Restoring files from time machine backup made using Mountain Lion

Hi Guys
I have trawled through the Internet and found many sources of help for some of my headaches but still can't help the problem. So here I am.....
I have an early MacBook Pro 13" that came with snow leopard. I immediately updated to lion which was a disaster being so slow etc. Then I upgraded to mountain lion which was pretty good. I always upgraded and never clean installed.
I have been running time machine on a Qnap nas (model 212) which I must add has been a headache to get going in itself.
Anyways I recently upgraded to mavericks which made my MacBook grind to a halt. I mean even the beachball was struggling. To the point after 2 weeks I couldn't get anything done on it!
So I decided to do a clean install. Did that and then tried to do restore files using migration assistant at first log in. Turns out my back is corrupted!
Now I know I have a good complete backup of my mountain lion system just 2 weeks old on my nas. Only problem is that mavericks won't let me get to that when I try to upgrade from that drive as it just says no OSX backup available.
Now I am trying to install snow leopard cleanly and the try and upgrade to mountain lion hoping that it would recognise the mountain lion backup on my nas.
Can you please let me know if I am going in the right direction?

Everything since the fresh install, has to be done manually from my Backup drive. Wasn't, or isn't TM supposed to do that automatically (for example restoring iTunes, is it supposed to restore just the application or all the folders with it as well?). Why, when I select a folder with many subfolders in it (and eventually the files I want within) does it say that the original whatever doesn't exist anymore at that location, then I have the option to choose a new location or to recreate the enclosing folders? I Click on recreate but when I do, just the top level shows (the first folder, for example, garageband). No more folders are shown inside, despite there being plenty of files in my backup version. Am I misunderstanding TM's powers/capabilities here? Is it supposed to be this frustrating and difficult?
Everything that I want has to be done manually it seems. I don't understand it. The other thing is that it denies me access (I don't have the privileges or whatever it says) to move the files directly via the mounted disk on the desktop rather than entering TM. So, I can't go into TM and click restore, I can't manually open the mounted drive and drag files (denies me permission). The only way I've been able to do anything successfully is to archive the **** folder/s or files.
Any help or direction, or a manual on how to use or tutorial on Time machine would be great. Someone point me in the right direction please, this is highly annoying and I am debating switching back to Leopard (having issues with iChat in Snow Leopard).

On your iPad, just go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, etc.>Add account>iCloud and put in the details of the account you set up. Shouldn't be a problem at all.

Look iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is a backup listed for your iPhone 5 dated BEFORE you restored your iPhone 4 backup to your iPhone 5? If not, your data is gone. If there is a backup, on your iPhone 5: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You should now be able to restore that backup, if it exists, to your iPhone 5.

Several obviously don't apply and of the ones left I don't know which content that is in IMovie that I use comes under. "This video is my original content and I own the rights to it" "I have a license or written permission of the property rights holder to use this material" "My use of the content meets the legal requirements for fair use of fair dealing under applicable copyright laws" or "The content is in the public domain or is not eligible for copright protection."

You want to use the "I have a license..." option, since clearly the music is not yours, but Apple has granted you a license.
